NCAA College Football Open week 1 and 2 2021

Filed under College Football, Friday Cigar, Open thread at September 2nd, 2021 - 3:45 pm

It’s an open thread, discuss what yinz want to.

Week 1 had no games that were interesting, Week 2 does. So, as usual, let’s start with $1000 and make some bets for $100 each unless otherwise stated.

Thursday:

#4 Ohio State at Minnesota 8:00 PM. O State is a 14 point favorite and won’t cover this spread on the road against a bunch of 13 striped pocket gophers.

Bowling Green at Tennessee 8:00 PM: The VOls are giving 35??? Nope. BGSU covers. Sorry Eagles and Rain!

Friday:

Michigan State at Northwestern 9:00 PM: Wildcats are 3 point favorites against the lowly Spartans. The Wildcats are pretty erratic tho…but 3 points…at home…I’m picking the Spartans to cover.

Saturday:

#19 Penn State at #12 Wisconsin 12:00 PM. This is a VERY important early game for both programs. Camp Randall is hell to play in, the noise is unreal. Penn State is 5.5 point dog tho??? Nah, they cover.

#17 Indiana at #18 Iowa 3:30 PM. IU is giving 3, they have been pretty good the last couple of years, they cover at Iowa.

#23 Louisiana at #21 Texas 4:30 PM: Ragin Cajuns ranked!!! They are getting 8 points. I don’t think that they cover. They just might win tho!

#5 Georgia at #3 Clemson 7:30 PM: Easily the game of the week. UGA is giving 3 at Death Valley. This is a tough one. UGA covers. But I don’t feel great about this pick.

**result for week 1 and 2 6/8 $1400/$1000***

    Or a geriatric league.

    Passes completed 0 for 60.
    Miskicks 9 out of nine

Comnbined yards from scrimmage for both teams. 10
    Fumbles 60

I dropped everything I reached for today. Lol.

AZ Jr tested positive for COVID a couple weeks ago, the rest of us are exhibiting symptoms and isolating. Half of his workgroup are out with COVID despite the fact his company re-instituted mask mandates about a month ago. The guy in his work group with the worst case and the most sick from all this a guy who works out all the time, is a vegan because he doesn’t like the taste of meat, and was fully vaccinated. Fully vaccinated, worst impact from the disease. So, what happened to the, “if you are vaccinated, if you do get it, the symptoms will be mild”?

/I know, anecdotal, but an interesting data point.

Guiggi if you see this, saw your post downstairs, I’ve had a long day will respond tomorrow.

FYI to all – got a full in-your-face lesson in supply chain issues today. Bought furniture – 6 mos. delivery time. This is from ETHAN ALLEN. They make their own furniture.

Their story is – the lockdown hit, they practically shut down expecting no business (as did every other furniture concern from what I’ve seen). They expected business to slow down.

Guess what happens when the little woman is locked up at home?

    She redecorates.

    Their demand is 10x expected.

    I’m out.

The RV industry is the same way. There are literally billions of dollars in orders stacked up at all the major manufacturers, and they can’t hire enough workers at the the plants. There are also major supply chain problems. I actually saw a story the other day about one of the major manufacturers sending people out to all the local Home Depots and Lowes in search of materials every morning, they’re so desperate.

Another example: Woodturning. Long story regarding how I’m now in this rabbit hole, but all of the lockdowns last year kept people at home not able to go do things Apparently lots of guys got into woodturning as a hobby to keep occupied. Tools and supplies have been hard to get this year, some lead times on some tools now showing into January 2022 from some suppliers.

So this doesn’t seem to be a crash but either pent-up demand or re-directed, unexpected demand driven by government interference

I’ve done furniture design and building for the last 25+ years and expected to continue doing that after I retired. Wood turning is woodwork for the ADHD. A furniture piece could take me months to a year to complete working only on weekends Most turning is completed within a few hours and may extend up to several days at most. Some of the complex segmented turnings may be a week or two worth of work.

“Even U.S.-made furniture is taking longer to make, though, due to a foam shortage that has affected manufacturers. That started when Texas was stuck in a deep freeze in February, since chemical plants that provide the necessary components to make the foam were shut down for extended periods.

Add that on top of that, there is short-staffing in factories and COVID-19-inspired delays. Virtually no furniture chain can keep up, especially with the skyrocketing demand for all sorts of items.”

It’s not the least bit odd. Because if they do that they’ll get leveled for NOT reporting on this: This is just blood-boiling. Dateline yesterday, from Salena Zito

For the last few weeks, Lt. Col. Jonathon Myers, a retired Marine intelligence officer, conducted a sleepless and exhaustive effort to get American citizens and green card holders connected with Marines in Afghanistan out of the country before the Aug. 31 withdrawal deadline.
    .
    .

Myers has been working with two other retired Marines, Katy Garroway of Maryland and Rico Reyes of Texas. In the final grim 12 hours in Kabul, no matter what anyone in military leadership or President Joe Biden said, no Americans who reached the airport were able to get out, Myers said.

“Within that last 12 hours, I had four buses of American citizens outside the gate,” he said. “They were mostly pregnant women and babies, including a child with spina bifida, just all packed together waiting at the gate.”

Myers said his team paid off the Taliban with a big bribe to allow their buses to go through. “They got to the gate, and there was an aid organization that was supposed to meet us with representatives, with the rosters, and to tell the Taliban to expect them.”

The aid organization didn’t show up.

“I, in panic mode, called, and called, and called all my Marine networks, I got the number for one of the top commanders down there explained the situation and we got in a big argument when he told me the Taliban makes the calls down here,” said Myers.

    They never got out.

    @ eaglesoars:

Blood boiling doesn’t begin to describe it. It would have been one thing if the Americans had been given months to prepare and get out, but only a few weeks ago, the Vegetable in Chief stated that a Taliban takeover was months away. There is a special place in hell for the people in the administration that have done this to their fellow citizens. They are supposed to be taking care of US citizens, not abandoning them to savages.

    Entirely plausible

    https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2021/09/afghanistan_fiasco_may_have_been_the_result_of_blackmail.html

A more likely scenario is that Afghanistan was surrendered at the urging of the Red Chinese, who saw an opportunity to blackmail old Joe for the many kickbacks he and his son, Hunter, had been taking throughout his years in Washington, D.C. It is no secret that the Red Chinese have had their eye on Afghanistan’s mineral deposits. Just two weeks before the American surrender, a Chinese delegation met in Kabul with the Taliban. Although the mainstream media have protected and covered for Joe Biden, reports of information contained on Hunter Biden’s laptop and emails exchanged between his partner, Tony Bobulinski, and Hunter, are damning proof of illicit wheeling and dealing by the Bidens to provide access to the White House while Joe was vice president

I feel sorry for the employees but can’t bring myself to have any pity for McDonalds. Mcdonalds corporate here in the US has been in the pocket of the left for years. When the country reopened Mcdonalds kept their dining rooms closed “due to COVID” when literally every other dining place and fast food place opened up. All because their leftist masters told them too. They are the most leftist oriented political fast food joint out there. They cave to every leftist demand instantly and don’t care how much it hurts their bottom line. They’ve only survived these last few years because “they’re Mcdonalds.” Any other no-name place would have folded with their anti-customer behavior.

Horse country here. Horse crossing about 1 mile north of me. Seems like there was a horse/vehicle accident this AM. Road closed all morning. If it was two cards probably only closed for 15 minutes.

The horse crossing is well marked. Supposed to yield if the rider is dismounted and walking their horse across.

Bongino covered that yesterday. Seems the two scientists who invented Ivermectin won a Nobel award for humanitarian progress or something. Not veterinarian. They found out later it worked on horseworms.
Bongino compared the alternate applications to the blood pressure medicine that didn’t lower blood pressure but caused pup tents to appear in patient’s beds, better known as Viagra.

I haz another recipe. I only tried this with fresh corn, but it’s a pain in the buttinski to shuck the ears and knife the kernels with a knife from the cob. Tomorrow I’m getting a great big bag of frozen corn, dumping it a colander and letting it thaw/drain for a few hours.

Bake some bacon (at least 4 strips, 350 degrees 23-30 minutes) When cool, break up.

Chop up some fat tomatoes, 2-3, let them drain in another colander

chop some scallions and fresh basil (or herb of your choice)

    All your prep done? Ok.

    1. heat oven to 350

    2. saute corn in 2-3 tlb butter until heated thru and silky, 5 mins or so

    3. add bacon and tomatoes, stir to mix, I add a bit of S&P at this step

    4. once everything is heated thru, turn over into a casserole dish, mix in scallions and herbs

    5. bake for 25-30 mins.

You won’t believe how good this is. It takes some pre-prep, like baking the bacon, but nothing has to be done all at once.

Psaki: ‘A Record 331 Million Americans Have Not Been Abandoned In Afghanistan’

Press Secretary Jen Psaki lauded the Biden administration for not abandoning a record 331 million Americans in Afghanistan.

According to sources, an unprecedented 331,128,473 Americans are living safely in America and are not abandoned in Afghanistan. This number is 91,543 higher than last week’s number, as approximately 91,543 babies were born in America this week.

“What the President has accomplished is simply unparalleled,” said Psaki, wiping a tear from her eye. “It’s like the Berlin airlift and Dunkirk had a beautiful love child, and that was this evacuation. We think we got about 96% of Americans out, which is A+ homework material, and on top of it all, we turned our homework in early. Boom. Eat that, Peter Doocy.”

While the administration did acknowledge that around 250 Americans were stranded in Afghanistan, they are pretty sure 248 of them are Republican. It is believed that tens of thousands of green card holders and Afghan allies are also trapped, but the administration anticipates that will get lost pretty quickly in the news cycle.

Critics pointed out that Biden did not uphold his promise to rescue all Americans, and on top of that gave those still trapped one less day to attempt the dangerous road to the airport. Sources inside the administration say they are sick and tired of journalists saying things like that, instead of praising them for being so awesome.

“We at the White House are frankly fed up with not getting the credit we deserve for being so amazing,” said Psaki. “Where’s the ‘Hey Jen, I’m so impressed with how you ended the Afghanistan war, would you like to expand on how great you are?’ Come on, let’s be glass-half-full kind of people!”

I’m calling BS on the story without reading it. The last election turned MT solidly red. Whitefish is an energy producing town. There is a strong rich liberal area due to it’s easy access to skiing and Glacier park but they are mostly seasonal. And you do have the ones with their multi-million dollar mountain homes. It’s also not an area know for it’s “diversity” in fact due to it’s low native population it’s less diverse than the rest of the state, so I’m not exactly sure how they were able to put together a BLM protest at any point.

I put up with the formulaic love ballads, bad rhymes and fake southern accents for a while, even though one song had a great line: “I remember it like it was just yesterday because it was.” Then a song came on where the first line had to do with the dimples on his girlfriend’s lower back and I couldn’t take it any more and searched for a streaming Norwegian country station. The scandi stuff was just as bad.

So now I’m listening to 60s space/tiki/lounge/rock on Flight 20 and it’s pure awesome.

The squirrels used the fence as a highway and a crow would land in front of a squirrel, the squirrel would turn around and a 2nd crow would land in his way in that direction. They also learned to recognize me when I was feeding the birds. They’d fly down and ‘talk’ to me. They can be quite friendly. West Nile wiped out almost the entire colony and then developers cut down their trees to build new houses. I miss them dearly.

A woman was studying crow behavior, began catching, tagging & releasing them. The crows picked up on it and all flew away whenever she appeared, forcing her to wear disguises.

BREAKING: US State Dept officials in Central Asian and Middle Eastern countries are blocking private rescue flights from landing there with evacuees from Afghanistan, per veteran members, even after countries have privately agreed to take the evacuees

FIRST ON FOX: Americans engaged in the rescue of U.S. citizens, SIVs and green card holders left behind by President Biden in Afghanistan are horrified by what they describe as inexplicable delays from the State Department that are preventing evacuation flights from leaving the country.

The State Department’s delays are recklessly endangering American lives, three different individuals involved in the private evacuation effort told Fox News.

Rick Clay, who runs the private rescue group PlanB, told Fox News that the State Department is the only thing preventing the flights he’s organizing from leaving Afghanistan.

Two other American individuals separately involved in evacuation efforts, whom Fox News is not naming to avoid jeopardizing ongoing rescue efforts, similarly said that the State Department is the sole entity preventing their charter flights from leaving Afghanistan.

“This is zero place to be negotiating with American lives. Those are our people standing on the tarmac and all it takes is a f****ing phone call,” one of those individuals, who has been integral to private evacuation efforts from Afghanistan, told Fox News.

“If one life is lost as a result of this, the blood is on the White House’s hands. The blood is on their hands,” that individual said, adding: “It is not the Taliban that is holding this up – as much as it sickens me to say that – it is the United States government.”

That individual suggested that the State Department’s obstruction is motivated in part by embarrassment that private individuals are rescuing Americans that the U.S. government left behind.

Military command over Al Udeid Air Base in Doha, Qatar, have informed those seeking clearance to land that they must first go through the State Department to gain approval, an email reviewed by Fox News shows.

Clay has a manifest of 4,500 names of U.S. citizens, green card holders, SIVs and refugees trying to get state-side. So far, they’ve given the State Department 800 names for a first round of flights. Fox News has reviewed that manifest, which confirms Clay’s account.

Biden’s Approval Rating Among CNN Employees Sinks To All-Time Low Of 98%

After a tumultuous 3 weeks and a botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, internal polls now indicate that Biden’s approval rating among those who work at CNN has fallen to an all-time low of 98%.

“This is extremely concerning,” said CNN president Jeffrey Zucker. “In spite of our best efforts to support our dear president, his approval among our employees has fallen to just 98%, down from a previous low of 99.2%. Rest assured—we will find who these employees are who disapprove and ensure they undergo disciplinary measures.”

Some anonymous sources have suggested that Biden’s approval rating at CNN is actually much lower, but that most employees have lied on the survey in order to keep their jobs. To find out who’s lying, Zucker will be mandating lie detector tests for all employees.

The survey did confirm, however, that CNN employee approval of Communist China, Big Tech, and Jeffrey Toobin still remains at a healthy 100%, at least among those named Jeffrey Toobin.

In an effort to quantify how many persons have been infected with Toxocara in the United States, a nationally representative seroprevalence survey was conducted during 1988–1994.11 Testing of samples collected during the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey demonstrated that Toxocara seroprevalence was 13.9% in the U.S. population ≥ 6 years of age

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4015569/

So in a study albeit from 1994 almost 14% of Americans had roundworms. That is just one parasite that humans can host. There are many more.

    This is interesting

    https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/toxocariasis/

For most people, an infection with these roundworm larvae causes no symptoms and the parasites die within a few months.

However, some people experience mild symptoms, such as:
    a cough
a high temperature of 38C or above

So it seems to me that anyone who is admitted to hospital with a temperature of 38C should be given a safe and precautionary dose of a drug that is effective in killing roundworms.

14% of patients probably do have worms.

This is very typical of islamists and also another similarity to bolsheviks and nazis. “papers not in order” when there is no clear definition of what “in order” really means is not unusual in these places. It’s all whimsical and a means of doing whatever the government wants to do.

To continue my earlier posts. Many US citizens have parasites. The CDC also recommends people from certain areas of the world take a prophylactic course of antiparasitic medication before travel to the USA.

    https://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/guidelines/domestic/intestinal-parasites-domestic.html

    Presumptive Treatment
Most refugees receive overseas pre-departure treatment with ivermectin before departure, unless contraindicated (see Tables 1 and 2). A relative contraindication is confirmed or suspected concomitant infection with Loa loa, because persons with pre-existing Loa loa infection and a high microfilarial load are at risk of complications when treated with ivermectin. For this reason, refugees who have lived in areas endemic to Loa loa do not receive pre-departure presumptive treatment with ivermectin (see Loa loa section below). Additional information on treatment schedules for presumptive parasitic infections is available on the CDC Immigrant, Refugee, and Migrant Health website.
Most refugee children weighing more than 15 kilograms receive presumptive treatment with ivermectin before resettlement, unless contraindicated (see Tables 1 and 2). Children weighing 15 kg or less have a lower likelihood of infection and therefore do not receive presumptive treatment.

So? What is my point you may ask?

Psaki: ‘There Are No American Hostages, Just People Being Detained Against Their Will Until Their Captors’ Demands Are Met’

In a press conference this morning, Press secretary Jen Psaki proudly confirmed that everyone has made it safely out of Afghanistan and there are no hostages at all.

“The people at the Kabul airport are not hostages,” said Psaki. “It would be very irresponsible for us to call them hostages. The word ‘hostage’ sounds like something from a bad action movie or something. These are merely people being detained against their will until their captors’ demands are met. That’s not the same thing as being a hostage at all.”

Psaki then confirmed that the Taliban’s every demand will indeed be met, including every request for money and weapons, as well as every wish they have ever wished upon a star, although that’s no guarantee that we will get the “people being detained against their will” back home safely.

“We actually haven’t asked for the hos—er, I mean—people being detained against their will—to be released yet,” she continued. “We’re kinda more just hoping that if we’re really nice to the Taliban and shower them with gifts, they’ll release the hostages just to be nice. We really don’t want to appear too forward here. After all, if we have to ask, it doesn’t mean as much.”

The Taliban responded by demanding Biden’s head on a silver platter. Sources say this should be an easy demand to meet since Biden has a ton of extra heads lying around.

In the news division (front page headline) there is this “People said the Covid vaccine affected their periods. Now more than $1.6 million will go into researching it”.

Let me parse that. First, ‘periods’ is WAY to narrow a term. Post-menopausal women reported it, miscarriages were reported and at least one nursing baby has died from hemorrhaging (found on freerepublic somewhere). Naomi Klein, who I normally scoff at, has been at the forefront of this and been banging the drum for months.

As with all of you, I watched in horror from my position at a big hospital in February 2020 as COVID-19 ravaged Italy. The virus was spreading globally, nothing seemed to stop it, and thousands were dying with no effective treatment to be found. It was truly a nightmare scenario.

Physicians and scientists were collaborating globally using Facebook and Twitter to speed the spread of new information and ideas around the world within minutes. Major scientific journals expedited the release and publication of COVID related articles and made them free to access. It was amazing. This was going to be a global triumph. But then politics joined the fray. And when politics and science mix, science loses. What the government scientists spoke was the truth, everything else was labelled misinformation and banned.

For centuries the scientific method invited questions, invited curiosity. Stupid questions and fringe ideas overturned scientific dogma throughout history. It is how we advance science. We question results, question truth, keep experimenting. But when politics and science mix, science loses. Fringe ideas such as a heliocentric solar system get Copernicus and Galileo thrown out of the church. Offering an alternative treatment to COVID, or questioning the effectiveness of masks gets you banned from Facebook and YouTube.

The family of coronaviruses is fairly common. It along with rhinovirus, adenovirus and enterovirus typically cause symptoms of the common cold. A vaccine which can tackle some or all of these viruses would be a windfall for any pharmaceutical company. Cure for the common cold. But the cure does not exist. Prior to 2020, we have never successfully made a vaccine against the coronavirus. Prior to 2020, we have also never made a vaccine using the mRNA technology. But, within months of isolating SARS COV-2, we not only have a vaccine against a coronavirus, but one using mRNA technology, AND near simultaneous release by several companies globally.

This should warrant cautious optimism from the medical and scientific community. Yes it works, but is it safe? Is it necessary? By the time of release of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines in late 2020, we were gaining control of the pandemic. We were finding effective treatment strategies, deaths were down. We identified vulnerable populations. The vaccine was promising, but the urgency was waning. It left time for careful consideration. Be scientists. Ask questions. What are the side effects? How long does immunity last? Is it effective against variants? What are the longer term, unseen effects? We don’t know. Let’s find out.

The majority of COVID-19 deaths are in people over 60 with other significant medical problems. It is reasonable to focus vaccine efforts on this population. There may be some unseen risk to the vaccine, but they stand a significant chance of dying from COVID. The benefit outweighs the risk. That is a decision we make all the time in medicine. The treatment has drawbacks, but the disease is worse. But in the less vulnerable population? Let’s wait a little bit. There are two novel aspects to this vaccine. The mRNA mechanism, and the Coronavirus target. We need careful consideration to find out what the risks of the vaccine really are.

That did not happen. When politics and science mix, science loses. Hurry up! Vaccinate everyone. We will restrict you until you are vaccinated. No 4th of July if we don’t reach vaccination goals! Hurry up!

AstraZeneca was the first to be pulled in Europe because of unanticipated blood clotting issues. The Johnson and Johnson adenovirus vector vaccine faced some early questions here at home. Healthy people were getting ill, suffering long term appetite suppression and cardiomyopathy after the vaccine. Wait. Stop. Slow down. Let’s take time to look at this closer before we forge ahead. No. When politics and science mix, science loses. Just shut up and take the jab. You are banned from Facebook for spreading misinformation about your vaccine side effects.

The vaccine was designed for the original COVID. We are now Delta dominant. Cases are surging. Companies are mandating the vaccine with threat of firing for noncompliance, mandating the vaccine to fly, mandating the vaccine to attend a game. The FDA made a hasty approval of the Pfizer vaccine, and the floodgates have opened. Now, under the thin veneer of FDA approval, more companies, my hospital included, are mandating the vaccine in order to remain employed.

The hospital’s rationale is that the Delta surge is driven by the unvaccinated. Is this true? The data out of Israel, who is months ahead of our curve with Delta says the opposite. Those who have never had COVID, but did receive the full 2 dose Pfizer regimen are 13 times more likely to get Delta than those with natural immunity, those who contracted the original COVID and recovered. 13 times more likely to contract Delta if you are vaccinated.

And of those who were vaccinated and contracted Delta, how long was it between vaccination and infection with Delta? Four months. Israelis were vaccinated in Jan/Feb and contracted Delta by June.

So we have a twice novel vaccine with known immediate side effects, no long term study , and which only seems to be effective against the current variant for 4-6 months. Will “take the jab or be fired” be a recurring threat from Big Hospital going forward? Every 6 months, get your booster or you are fired?

They reply “But those who are vaccinated and contract Delta don’t get as sick!” Right, but they are still contagious, and now not sick enough to stay home. And if there is a risk of harm from taking a new vaccine, and the only benefit is that I get less sick, that choice should be mine, not forced under threat of unemployment.

And speaking about long term effects, are we seeing any now? Long term effects are just that. They happen months or years later. This is why a new drug takes years to come to market. The FDA graveyard is littered with medications which made it through the approval process, only to be recalled due to an unforeseen long term consequence. Try to buy Zantac, a once popular OTC antacid, at CVS. It was just recalled because an impurity causes cancer. Didn’t see that coming. Vioxx, thalidomide, fen-phen… oops.

What are the long term effects of the mRNA vaccine? Who knows. There is early evidence of decreased numbers of an immune cell called CD-8 T cells immediately following vaccination. These cells are part of the early surveillance team which seeks out and destroys cells infected with viruses or are abnormally growing cancerous cells. Dr. Ryan Cole, a pathologist and immunologist in Idaho has noticed an increase in invasive melanomas, endometrial cancer, and cervical dysplasia as well as common viral infections such as molluscum, HPV and HSV. These are typically conditions a healthy immune system with functioning CD-8 cells would knock out before you even knew about it. But in post vaccinated people, these infections and cancer are quickly becoming more common. Suppressed T cells are not there to stop it. This is anecdote, not a published study, but this is the kind of thing that spurs questions in a healthy scientific community. We consider the issue, study it find the data, prove the hypothesis. But in today’s world, Dr. Cole is labelled a kook, ostracized, videos deleted from YouTube for spreading misinformation. Questioning the dogma.

There is also a study published in the UK which identifies antibody dependent enhancement facilitating infection with Delta. Antibody dependent enhancement is a case where the antibodies the vaccine stimulates you to make actually facilitate the entry of the Delta strain into your cells. Instead of making it less likely you will get sick, it makes you more likely. This may explain the Israeli data. This is actual data, published by the British Infection Association. There are long term consequences out there, we just haven’t taken the time necessary to find them.

The Big Hospital policy cites acceptance of the vaccine by the American College of Gynecologists and Obstetricians (ACOG). Give the vaccine to pregnant women. Really? Where is the caution here? Most medications, common medications prescribed frequently to pregnant women, reglan, zofran, phenergran, tylenol, carry the warning on the package insert that they are not well studied in pregnancy, and use is cautioned. We use them because there are decades of use that show them to be probably safe, but still counsel patients before prescribing. The vaccine? Just give it! It is safe! Despite the fact that it is not possible to have a cohort of newborns large enough to show detrimental effect. Disgraceful. What possible reason is there for the rush? When politics and science mix, science loses

It may turn out that the Pfizer vaccine was key in our victory over COVID. This may also be a dark time for science and medicine where we allowed our process to be subverted by politics, and patients lost.

In medicine we talk about informed decision making. The old, paternalistic, directive medicine is in the past. We involve patients in their care, inform them, allow them to make the decisions, right or wrong. Politics mixed with science, science has lost and we have now returned to the paternalistic directive medicine of “vaccinate or else”.

Hey, no problem with that. That was very interesting and informative. Doesn’t sound like the ravings of some Twitter Twit to me. Just overheard a Jimmy Fallon monologue where he was excoriating people for not getting vaccinated and saying that when having to decide who gets treated, vaccinated people get preference and unvaccinated can just die in the street. … and then ran with the Ivermectin falsehood. That sounded like the ravings of a Twitter Twit to me.

no disrespect, but there are advantages to not being a Christian

I had to think about that a while. It is entirely part of the original nature of people to want to see vengeance exacted on those who offend us and do wrong such as Fauci has done. It is not that Christians don’t want to see vengeance but that we also understand that we are equally guilty of wrongdoing that makes us equally deserving of eternal punishment but have been spared that only by the Grace of God through the forgiveness given by Christ’s sacrifice. To desire and want vengeance and the wrongness of doing so is illustrated by the parable of the unjust servant, who, after being forgiven by his master for a huge debt that he would never be able to repay, even after he and his family would be sold into slavery, then went out and found a fellow servant who owed him a pittance and demanded payment, putting that person in jail until the small debt was paid. As Christians, we know that we have been forgiven a debt greater than any of our fellow humans could owe against us, so wanting vengeance is to despise the forgiveness we have been given.

Now, that does not mean we don’t want to see justice done or consequences for actions that harm others. Government is put in place to make sure people can lead peaceful and quiet lives. Fauci’s actions are deserving of prosecution and consequences for the evil he has been responsible for promulgating on society. That he is praised by the very Government that is supposed to be guarding the lives and livelihood of its citizens is maddening.

… and yes, I often err by expressing the desire for vengeance on those who are destroying our society and the blessings of a free and open society with so many opportunities. That does not redound to my glory when I do that, but is reflective of how the original nature of sinful humans can come to the forefront.

World’s Largest Nitrogen Plant Declares “Force Majeure,” Sends Fertilizer Prices Sky High

Spot prices for nitrogen fertilizer on the US Gulf Coast skyrocketed to a near-decade high on a report the world’s largest nitrogen manufacturing plant declared force majeure.

CF Industries Holdings Inc. in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, closed its massive complex ahead of Hurricane Ida. The complex has 19 plants, including six ammonia and five urea facilities, producing nitrogen-based products for agricultural and industrial markets.

According to the letter seen by Bloomberg, CF Industries said, “due to these circumstances, CF Industries Sales, LLC has declared an event of force majeure affecting the production and shipment of product from the CF Donaldsonville, LA nitrogen complex.”

The letter was dated Sept. 3, and at that time, the facility remained closed. This stoked fears of production declines at a time when supplies are already tight.

As a result of the force majeure, US Gulf urea nitrogen fertilizer spot prices spiked 16.5%, according to Green Markets data.

    Australia

It goes without saying that when the history of the Covid pandemic is written, “we’re all in this together” will be remembered with all the irony of the slogan “freedom is slavery” from George Orwell’s 1984.

Only in Australia’s case, we are told repeatedly that instead of slavery, freedom equals death, by a health bureaucracy that for the moment has the whip hand.

Just ask the residents of Common Ground, a social housing estate in Camperdown where residents are locked in their apartments after four residents tested positive to Covid-19.

To add insult to indignity, officials are searching care packages sent to them to make sure they don’t contain too much of the demon alcohol.
If someone sends them more than a six pack a day or a bottle of wine, it’s tipped down the gutter.

The policy is, as with all such policies, for the residents’ own good — “to ensure the safety of health staff and residents”, an official said, adding the same rules apply to other apartment complexes similarly locked down across the city.

CDC Says A New COVID Variant May Be Needed To Effectively Bury Afghanistan News

Officials at the CDC said today that the surprising virulence and persistence of Afghanistan news may require a whole new COVID variant to distract the country from it.

“We’re concerned that the only way to cure the administration of all this bad publicity may be a prolonged, shrieking freak-out over a new COVID variant,” said Dr. Ed Whittle, Director of the CDC’s Department for the Cultivation of Existential Dread. “So, we’re working night and day to come up with something really scary that would make the collapse of Afghanistan seem like a Martha’s Vineyard birthday party.”

Some of the possible variants that officials are considering include the Gamma variant, which gives victims an extreme desire to turn green and smash; the Bro variant, which causes victims to break out in armband tattoos; and the Kung Fu Movie variant, in which victims’ can no longer make their words match up with their mouth movements.

Dr. Whittle said, “Right now the leading candidate is the Germany variant, because lots of really scary things come from Germany, like Nazis and Rammstein. And if we’re going to wipe the Afghanistan debacle off the front pages, we’re definitely going to need something as scary as heavy metal Germans.”

Notice that they didn’t give a figure as to how much electricity they want to produce from solar. Just a percentage of the total.

We could meet that goal tomorrow. Currently, we get about 4% of our electricity from solar. All you have to do in order to make that 50% is shut down the majority of the conventional powerplants. Hell, if you shut them all down, we could be at 100%.

More on Afghans in NoVA hospitals

An influx of refugees is straining Northern Virginia to the point that native-born Americans are being turned away from a local hospital.

“A hospital near the Dulles Expo Center that federal officials designated as a go-to spot for medical treatment began running out of available beds, forcing the hospital to turn away non-Afghan patients who weren’t in need of critical care,” The Washington Post reported.

The hospital is treating Afghans who have been transported by the planeload to Dulles Airport outside D.C. following the U.S. withdrawal and Taliban control of the country.

Despite the existing load already straining the system, J. Stephen Jones, a hospital executive, told The Post that several dozen more planes full of Afghans are scheduled to arrive at Dulles airport this week.

Report on the Fed’s Beige Book

Today’s release of the Fed’s “Beige Book“ – an informal narrative of the economy as told by small and large companies in the 12 Federal Reserve districts – listed “shortage” 77 times, up from 19 times in January.

Shortages of nearly everything, with labor-related shortages being the most prominent. These shortages “restrained” growth, and companies were “unable to meet demand” because of these shortages. Here are some standouts:

labor shortages seems to be the crux

Couldn’t read the Epoch Times article because they wanted me to register and log in. But the second link —- order of magnitude difference over previous elections. Would be interesting to see demographic data for where those ballots were lost and whether the majority of them were in Trump supporting areas. That would be a smoking gun

This is very very very bad

One state Supreme Court case could destroy the court for years to come

    https://www.carolinajournal.com/opinion-article/one-state-supreme-court-case-could-destroy-the-court-for-years-to-come/

In an astonishing and unprecedented power grab that will overturn 200 years of case law and prior precedents, Democrats on the state Supreme Court are preparing to disqualify and remove two duly-elected Republican Supreme Court justices from a case so they can nullify voters’ decision to amend the Constitution.

The case is NAACP v. Moore and the state Supreme Court’s Democrats are trying to remove two Republican members from the bench, so a new temporary four-to-one Democrat majority can erase two constitutional amendments – the cap on income tax, and the voter I.D. requirement – which were overwhelmingly passed by more than four million votes.

Maybe post that up on your blog? I was going to hit some social media accounts with the video. I thought it was well done.

Biden missed a trick. if he’s going to try to force companies to mandate vaccines, why can’t he force health insurance companies to refuse coverage of the unvaxxed if they contract the virus?

NEWS: White House official tells me USPS workers are NOT included in President Biden’s vaccine requirement, but “we strongly encourage them to comply with these standards.”

That’s a massive chunk of the federal workforce — 644k & growing — that’s not required to be vaccinated.

The USPS is part of the exec branch, employees must follow federal rules.

If I had to guess, a significant portion of the unvaxxed are going to be lost to the work force, willingly or no. Then tell me about labor shortages.

I heard that McConnell is coming out telling the unvaxxed they’re a problem.

Biden is probably worried about postal workers going postal. This pandemic is mostly an easy one. The mass hysteria seems insane.

It absolutely is insane. … and I can speak from direct experience. Yeah, it’s not a fun disease and I have a lingering cough. But that happens to me whenever I catch a cold. My 95+ year old Dad had it and was in the hospital for resulting pneumonia but is now back home and doing better, our son had it and is now back at work; guy in his workgroup with the worst symptoms was fully vaccinated and works out all the time. Multiple relatives have had it and all have recovered. I know others have not been as fortunate, but the number is relatively small to the point one has to question the hysteria surrounding it.

Most of the actions mandated to prevent the spread actually prolong the life of the local epidemic. It should have burned itself out by now, but that’s just my opinion. No one seems to factor in the social effects either – suicides, loss of income, business closures, drug/alcohol addiction, etc.

The marxist totalitarians have absolutely factored in all of those effects. It’s all part of the quiet revolution. It’s no coincidence this is happening worldwide right now. They saw their chance and jumped at it. The question is how long are we going to allow it to continue in this country, I have written off the rest of the world already.

Tarrio was harshly sentenced by Judge Harold Cushenberry for the misdemeanors of a mostly peaceful act of protest and having an ammo clip that was not even functionally able to fire bullets. The sentence was higher than what the prosecution even requested.

I have serious doubts that only 80 million Americans are unvaccinated, but fair enough; if that’s your number, okay then. However, consider this…. Assuming we are the minority group, the non-vaxxed crew breaks down into two broad segments: (1) The extremely well-educated who carry commonsense and are in a social strata where they remain quiet about it; and (2) The skeptical productive class of similarly disposed commonsense blue-collar workers who are the backbone of American productivity.

The comfortable existence for the rest of “polite society” is dependent on the scruffneck working class, the dirty fingernail folk who know what Lava soap feels like, and the industrious service sector workforce who fulfill the needs of those who hold out their pinky fingers when they drink from a glass.

If this non-vaccinated ‘minority group’ stops fulfilling the needs of the vaccinated ‘betters’, guess what happens?

Additionally, if the non-vaccinated minority begin following the COVID rules with extreme compliance, the entire system doesn’t function. Whoops, I cannot enter a federal property because I am not vaccinated {{{shrugs shoulders}}}. Okay, I’ll leave the pizzas on the sidewalk, enjoy.

The ramifications of extreme compliance are very far-reaching,

So this is what I’ve found about what happened during the mandated anthrax vax.

    According to the GAO report:

“According to our survey, between September 1998 and September 2000, when AVIP was mandatory, about 16 percent of the guard and reserve pilots and aircrew members had transferred to another unit (primarily to non-flying positions), moved to inactive status, or left the military altogether. In addition, 18 percent of those still participating in units indicated their intention to transfer, move, or leave in the near future. About one-fifth of those who had already left did so knowingly before qualifying for military retirement.’”

The pending loss of pilots was undeniable. According to the report, 69% of those pilots who changed their status ranked the anthrax vaccine as the main factor, and 72% of those pilots who planned to leave the military ranked the anthrax vaccine as the main factor.

Absolutely. One of the worst things that can happen to any team is when one or more of the team members engage in what is termed “malicious compliance”. This is the act of knowing and following all rules, processes, and policies that the company has in place to the last dotted “i” and crossed “t”. That kind of compliance brings program progress to a near stand-still.
