NCAA Football Week 7 2021 OPEN THREAD

by coldwarrior ( 254 Comments › )
Filed under College Football, Open thread at October 16th, 2021 - 9:55 am

Last week 3/4 today…21/27 $1600/$1000. 60% ROI…it was 90% with a low of 40%

No football bets today, none of the games are enticing me. I had to call off tonight as it appears that there was a tornado or a microburst and the area looks like a war zone, I lost many shingles, gutters, siding, sofit and fascia. Here are trees down in our very local area and damage to all the houses in a two block wide path.

The chainsaws are running, power crews are out, and I’ve gotta clean up. Mrs Coldwarrior and the children heard the tornado warnings and went into the basement. No one hurt, just a bunch of cleaning up to do…and bbq some ribs. Can’t clean up without bbq!

Regarding the story near the bottom of the previous thread about a lawsuit against the military vaccine mandate, there’s at least one significant incorrect detail. Nobody is going to receive a Dishonorable Discharge for refusing to get it. They would likely receive a General Discharge Under Honorable Conditions.

A Dishonorable Discharge can only be issued as a result of a conviction by a General Court Martial, and it usually goes along with prison time.

I see there were tornado warnings in the land of Vitamin I last night. Duquesne Light went dark for some. Kinda late in the season for tornados.

Since our local WalMart is within view of I-40, we get lots of trucks and things staying overnight in the parking lot. One day, I saw a brand new city bus that was marked with the logo of some city in southern CA. It also had labels all over it proclaiming that it was electric, “zero emissions,” etc.

There was an F-250 parked next to it with a big CAT diesel generator on a trailer. Real “green”…

You may have seen reports that some areas of Germany are permitting grocery stores to ban the unvaxed. Comment from Instapundit

Some months back I read a comment from a fellow who knew a woman who was a member of the Hitler youth. He asked her “How could you?” She replied, “How could you not? If you didn’t join, your family was ostracized. You were threatened and bullied. The local grocer would refuse to sell you food. “

    Getting fired or going Galt…

According to the most recent statement from Joe Biden on October 14th: “We’re down to 66 million — it’s still an unacceptably high number — of unvaccinated people from almost 100 million in July.” Approximately 60 million of those are within the current U.S. workforce.

If we split the difference (census -vs- BLS) and take the mid-point at 140 million workers, then 60 million workers refusing the vaccine mandate represents about 40 percent of the entire population of eligible workers. Put another way, in the best case scenario, if 60 million people quit working or were fired, the national unemployment rate would be at least 35% !

Unfortunately we don’t have unions. Yes, we are constantly forced to work understaffed but now they’ve “solved” that problem by hiring travelers to come in and get paid 3x what we get paid. Our full time staff are leaving in droves, we pretty much only have travelers left. Most of what’s left as far as full time staff will be leaving when the vaccine mandate kicks in mid November

    https://nypost.com/2021/10/17/marxists-try-to-take-fed-reserve-as-biden-weighs-powell-reappointment/

Former Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers sounded the alarm last week when he blasted “a generation of central bankers who are defining themselves by their wokeness … They’re defining themselves by how socially concerned they are.”

He’s not wrong if a recent research paper from a Fed economist is any indication.

“The primary role of mainstream economics in our society is to provide an apologetics for a criminally oppressive, unsustainable, and unjust social order,” wrote Jeremy Rudd.

Employees of the Federal Reserve reportedly are being subjected to ideological training on “white fragility,” “unconscious bias,” “critical climate justice” and how to “decolonize the atmosphere.”

Atlanta Fed: The GDPNow model estimate for real GDP growth (seasonally adjusted annual rate) in the third quarter of 2021 is 1.2 percent on October 15, down from 1.3 percent on October 8.

    Read the caveats. Quite amusing.

In particular, it does not capture the impact of COVID-19 and social mobility beyond their impact on GDP source data and relevant economic reports that have already been released. It does not anticipate their impact on forthcoming economic reports beyond the standard internal dynamics of the model.

    Of course he did

Yesterday afternoon, President Biden announced his intention to nominate Rear Admiral Ann Phillips, US Navy (Retired), as the next US Maritime Administrator, a position that has been vacant since Rear Admiral Mark Buzby stepped down following the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol in January.

Phillips is a highly decorated Navy leader with a long list of accomplishments and is highly respected by everyone gCaptain has interviewed. She was head of the Navy’s Climate Change Task Force and is a highly sought after consultant on climate security issues. She holds an MBA. She was chairman of a local government Sea Level Rise Preparedness and Resilience project. She once captained a Navy warship. The appointment looks great on paper except for one kinda big problem. This is not a warship position. It’s a commercial shipping appointment and she has zero experience aboard any commercial ships. She does not even have experience leading navy military sealift ships.

I’m confused about this. Today Bongino said we DON’T have the capability but others have said we do.

However, the backstory seems to be that they got the technology from China who got it from the Russians who got it from Hillary via something called ‘Sokomo’. I’m confused about this. Today Bongino said we DON’T have the capability but others have said we do.

However, the backstory seems to be that they got the technology from China who got it from the Russians who got it from Hillary via something called ‘Sokomo’. I’ve been busy today w/paperwork so I haven’t had time to research. Apparently Trevor Louden (sp?) and someone else have done the research on it.

If Trevor is involved in research you can normally trust it 100%. Trev has a reputation for NOT hyping his research.

Still locked down here at ‘the beach’. Using a jury rigged computer set up.

Can’t get access to a LOT of stuff that resides on my computers in my office. There are police check-points between me (at Level #2 lockdown, pretty ordinary and not invasive) and Auckland which is in Level #3 lockdown and is hidden behind a ring of cops securing it from folks trying to escape or crazies trying to get in!

I am supposed to have a medical check up Thursday and unless my surgeon can spring for a pass, I can’t get to the checkup- Getting in from Level #2 to Level #3 is NOT much of a problem. Going from Level #3 to a Level #2 lockdown is problematic.

Well, I just had a nightmare.

Rumors abound that Pelosi will step down. I think there are about 7 Dem House members that will not run for re-election. The consensus seems to be they see the polls and don’t care to serve in the minority.

So the Rs take the majority in the House. Who becomes Speaker?

You know who will fight like a honey badger for it?

    Liz Cheney.

    Shoot me now.

She’s up for re-election in 2022 and I don’t know if she survives. But if she does, it will be (just my thoughts right now) between her and McCarthy. I guess. I don’t know. The idea of Liz Cheney as Speaker makes me want to open a vein.

Look what’s buried in the ‘spending’ bill.

“The increased fines on employers could run as high as $70,000 for serious infractions, and $700,000 for willful or repeated violations — almost three-quarters of a million dollars for each fine. If enacted into law, vax enforcement could bankrupt non-compliant companies even more quickly than the $14,000 OSHA fine anticipated under Biden’s announced mandate.”
    .
    .
In order to carry out this draconian measure, OSHA plans to use an Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS) — a drastic measure used to accelerate new orders that has only been attempted 10 times in the agency’s 50-year history.

Energy Star won’t recommend any gas appliances on its next ‘most efficient’ list

For its 2022 Energy Star Most Efficient list, though, the EPA announced that it will not include furnaces, boilers, or gas dryers, a move that was spurred by activism from environmental groups such as the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Rewiring America, Sierra Club, and the Rocky Mountain Institute. For the first time, the list will include only electric appliances that can run on 100% clean energy. (The 2022 Most Efficient list isn’t out yet; the EPA just recently finalized its criteria for the products eligible for recognition, which meant the removal of gas dryers, furnaces, and boilers, according to a September 28 memo.)

I was just casually perusing through the internet the other day and came across this story. The Walton Family…a family worth a combined $238.2 BILLION and have more wealth than 43% of all Americans combined have decided that they want to buy something money has never been able to buy in America…water. Specifically the Colorado River. The Wall Street Journal wrote an article explaining their position which is that the River is in crisis and they’re going to save it by buying it and then selling the water to the 40 MILLION people who depend on it for everything from drinking water to electricity to irrigation to grow the food we eat.

The theory by the Waltons and others is that by privatizing the Colorado River water they can raise the price which will force people to conserve their water as if it were gas or electricity because water will be treated like any other commodity.

There are so many of these instances of stupidity now occurring. A few months ago I started bookmarking such stupidity but gave up. Let me be clear I was not actively looking for stupidity. These were instances that I saw in the news or on Twitter.

A couple of examples. One from the withdrawal of British troops from Afghanistan. There was a photograph of about 100 troops all asleep on the floor of a cargo aircraft and many comments noted a distinct lack of diversity in the British army.

The British army is a volunteer force. Maybe more black people should volunteer to defend their country.

A more recent one of note is Chicago art museum no longer requiring the services of their volunteer museum guides because the majority were white middle class women.

Maybe the problem is no black people were volunteering.

As to cis gender males ( A.K.A real men ) being plumbers. Most of the plumbers are male.

Maybe more women and trans-sexuals should become plumbers then they could do the plumbing in “safe spaces”

And, yes women plumbers exist. However the videos are more suited to Diary of Daedalus than here. LOL

    This is an example.

SCOOP: Manchin Tells Associates He’s Considering Leaving the Democratic Party and Has an Exit Plan

In recent days, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) has told associates that he is considering leaving the Democratic Party if President Joe Biden and Democrats on Capitol Hill do not agree to his demand to cut the size of the social infrastructure bill from $3.5 trillion to $1.75 trillion, according to people who have heard Manchin discuss this. Manchin has said that if this were to happen, he would declare himself an “American Independent.” And he has devised a detailed exit strategy for his departure.

It’s all according to plan. The endgame is to bring us to the day when a government official goes to your school and decides what kind of career you get assigned to “soviet style” then your secondary education is already pickded for you. That way you have perfect equity and everyone is equally miserable and equally incompetent and their assigned professions.

More like manipulative and agenda driven.

The lady is a washed up divorcee, B Grade actor, who lucked in by catching a Brit prince who was not the brightest bulb in a box of not particularly bright bulbs. She then used her status to leverage the Brit Royal family into politics, (not that she really needed to to try too hard as they were always covertly political. Even the current queen was trapped recently on an open mic making political global warming comments. Normally Lizzie doesn’t put a political foot wrong! Her (I want to be a tampon) son is a total fruit loop. So much so that Australian Republicans are gagging to get another ‘go’ at a republican government after they made a total hash of it last time they tried it on!

Megan just wants to cement her position in as part of the Elite, in the One World Government. She is leveraging the fact that she had Harry’s balls firmly in her handbag. Boris Johnson has a similar problem, with his balls that reside in the handbag of his socialist elitist Greenie wife!

A cunning scheme by ‘moderate’ Dems to still get a huge wad of cash to pay for their plan to ensure that the Dems become the permanent party of government. The trick s to demand twice as much as you need and then make a ‘deal’ and rolling back the demand to what you actually needed all the time.

If Manchin was an ‘honest’ player, then he’d stay right where is is and play a spoiling game until the midterms. Doing what he is reported doing, is just playing the DC two-step!

Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow

The main products of the twenty-first-century economy will not be textiles, vehicles, and weapons but bodies, brains, and minds.

While the Industrial Revolution created the working class, the next big revolution will create the useless class.

The way humans have treated animals is a good indicator for how upgraded humans will treat us.

Democracy and the free market will both collapse once Google and Facebook know us better than we know ourselves, and authority will shift from individual humans to networked algorithms.

Humans won’t fight machines; they will merge with them. We are heading toward marriage rather than war.

The Fentenyl used to be manufactured in Southern China, especially Guangdong but after a LOT of US pushback that stopped as Chinese now concentrate on manufacturing percursors and outsource the actual manufacture to the Cartels.

This was a peripheral money making enterprise by the CCP. The reason for this was to undermine the US population, especially among veteran groups in red fly over states. It was a nominated tactic and part of the CCP Strategy of Total Warfare with the US that has been being waged by China since about 2007. Everything is on the table. Bio-warfare, terrorism, nuclear war fighting, trade war, economic warfare, PsyOps, covert invasion and placement of agents, IP theft, corruption of US companies,… to name a few.

    Maybe … but…

The energy of that 3,000 foot lump reaches all of the way to the bottom of the ocean, loses some energy through dissipation laterally and more when it crosses the mid oceanic ridge. This appears as a small ( 2 foot) high velocity wave mid Atlantic. When the wave energy reaches the US Continental shelf the energy is further dissipated through frictional forces, however as the water becomes more shallow the wave heights increase as whatever wave energy is contracted into a shorter water column. The wave energy is further dissipated through friction as wave heights build, and the wave breaks off shore where the normal sea level has retreated to. The final wave reaches the shoreline as whitewater of different energy levels and floods across the actual historical coastline as a broken water surge that penetrates several Km inland depending on coastal topology.

It is NOT a 3,000 foot high wall of water!

Based on Sumatra and Japanese experience, the ‘tide’ goes out several KMas the wave height builds as it approaches land. The wave breaks multiple Km from shore and the white water surge is normally around 6′ – 10 ‘but it just goes on and on and on for many minutes. Friction prevents a major wave height reaching the original shoreline because water from the shore is drawn out to sea to feed the building wave energy from the shore side. There is a similar pull from the offshore side of the wave as well. Tsunamis tend to break just before the point where the new shoreline has formed as water withdraws from the original shoreline. The breaking wave dumps quite a lot of energy in the process of breaking. Broken surges are what finally reach the original shoreline as those 6′-10’ broken surge. It’s the length of time that the surge lasts crossing a given point that governs how far it reaches inland. A LOT of energy is lost in lateral dissipation, friction and transition from unbroken wave to broken water. Every meter of retreated shoreline the broken water crosses is that much less energy the broken water has when it finally reaches the original shoreline. The volume of displaced water is directly proportional to the energy generated by the slip of rock into the sea by the volcano. The leak of this total energy is what dissipated the resulting broken water wave reaching a far off shoreline.

Try unplugging the power, remove the battery, wait a minute or so, then plug the power cord back in and try to power it back up without the battery in it. If that doesn’t work, hold the power button down for @ 20 seconds, unplug the power cord and try again.

Some computers also have a key sequence that you can use to clear them when unplugged and the battery removed.

If all else fails, open it up and remove the internal battery of a minute to reset the BIOS to its default settings.

If you get it working again, run your anti-virus and anti-malware apps before you do anything else.

Shipping Containers From Stranded Ships Abandoned in California Neighborhoods

Shipping containers stranded for weeks at sea are now reportedly being abandoned in California neighborhoods.

Anaheim Street in Los Angeles has become one of the locations where an overflow of empty containers now line local streets, as nearby UCTI Trucking deals with more than they can handle under the local port’s 24/7 operations.

“It’s a bunch of neighbors that are very upset because it’s a non-stop issue,” local resident Sonia Cervantes told CBSLA. Cervantes also said a container had blocked her car at one point.

UCTI Trucking owner Frank Arrieran addressed the situation, as the company experiences massive overflow to its usual 65 container spaces.

“Right now with the ports and everything that’s going on over there we’re stuck with the containers, having to bring them all to the yard, and we only have so much space,” Arrieran told CBSLA.

After very heavy rain with the creek running a banker the guy at the top of the creek e-mails everyone and advises to shut off the water until the mud settles. I have a half tonne of stored water as a buffer and the mud usually settles after 12 hours so we don’t suffer any shortage.
Plenty for the 70 odd houses for Ngarimu Bay plus Thornton Bay next beach along.. We all kick in $60 a year for the upkeep of the mini dam at the top of the slope and the odd replacement underground water pipe that have been laid.. Most use the piped water straight from creek to lips. I put it through 3 filters, 20 micrometre mud filter, just in case, a 5 micron and a 2 micron carbon filter that keeps out even giardia in case a possum falls into the creek and rots in the dam.

I had a mate married to one of my female baggies(soldiers). He was 6’6″and she 5’2″. Kev was the arch typical nerd except when he was on the pistol range. They did very well cutting code for government contracts. They had a huge place just north of Auckland with an underground pistol range under his estate.
He was the guy who wrote all of the code for the Voyager 1& 2 probes to Jupiter and beyond for NASA. Did his doctorate at Stanford and worked at JPL for a long time before starting his own company. Wrote and manufactured the first Mars lander that was equipped with a shovel and testing lab aboard. He used very cunning and robust software and designed and built the hardware in NZ. His company was called General Dynamics New Zealand. I kid you not! How he got away calling it General Dynamics I will never know.

His wife Louisa, was one of my Intel Ops. Smart as a whip but just a baggy (Private). She was an ace interrogator and with a Brit corporal they used to tag-team against SAS recruits and interrogate them for their Resistance to interrogation course. I recommended that she do an Officers training course. She aced to course and ended up an active Reserve Brigadier General by the time she retired. She was all into combat shooting as well.

We use the dam as a buffer. The inlet pipes are about 1 foot above the base and the dam is fed by a underground spring. The water just flows over the top of the dam and runs downhill for about 1Km and into the sea at Ngarimu Bay.

The mix of fresh and salt water just off the rocks and a tiny beach causes micro-organisms to grow and the little fish feed of this plankton. The big fish then eat the little fish and we catch the big fish, just off the beach. There are a patch of oysters that are available at low tide and then the main beach starts from there and runs to a little headland about 400 m down Ngarimu Bay, followed Thornton Bay Beach about 500 m long.

Sheriff’s office: Alec Baldwin’s ‘prop firearm’ kills one, injures another

Actor Alec Baldwin discharged a “prop firearm” that killed a cinematographer and injured the director of the movie Rust, being filmed on a set south of Santa Fe, a county sheriff’s office spokesman said late Thursday.

Halyna Hutchins, 42 and the director of photography for the movie, died at University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque. The film’s director, Joel Souza, was hospitalized in Santa Fe, Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Juan Ríos said.

A source close to the investigation said Baldwin, 63, was questioned by investigators late Thursday and was seen by a New Mexican reporter and photographer in tears.

Investigators are still trying to determine if the incident was an accident, Ríos said. No charges have been filed, and the investigation is open, Ríos wrote in a news release.

The prop was fired at Bonanza Creek Ranch, where filming was underway, the sheriff’s office said in an early evening news release. Baldwin stars in the production.

Hutchins died from her injuries after she was flown to University of New Mexico Hospital, according to the sheriff’s office. Souza was taken to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, where he is receiving emergency care, the sheriff’s office said. Attempts to get comment from Baldwin were unsuccessful.

It’s apparently a period piece set in the 1890s, so it wouldn’t have been any sort of automatic weapon. About the only thing I can think of right off is that it might have been a shotgun, and the two people who were hit were standing next to one another.

Affidavit says assistant director indicated he gave Alec Baldwin a ‘cold’ gun that was safe.

The assistant director of the western film “Rust” grabbed a prop pistol from a gray cart and handed it to the movie’s star, Alec Baldwin, shouting “cold gun!” — which was supposed to indicate that it did not contain any live rounds, and was safe to handle around the crew huddled by the camera.

But the weapon fired when Mr. Baldwin pulled the trigger a few minutes later, discharging a live projectile that hit the director, Joel Souza, in the shoulder and struck the director of photography, Halyna Hutchins, in the chest, killing her.

The first official account of the killing, which has rocked the entertainment industry and raised questions about workplace safety issues in film productions, was released late Friday in an affidavit filed by the Santa Fe County sheriff’s department seeking to search the rustic wooden building where the shooting happened.

A state magistrate judge granted the request, which includes an examination of the gun for biological evidence as well as a review of cameras, film, memory cards or other video recorders that may provide information in the case. Mr. Baldwin has cooperated with investigators, a spokesman for the department said. No charges have been filed in the shooting.

While the five-page filing provides many basic logistical details of the shooting, it leaves many questions unanswered — namely how a live round ended up in a gun fired by an actor.

The assistant director “did not know live rounds were in the prop gun,” Detective Joel Cano wrote in the affidavit.

The weapon was “set up” on the tray by the movie’s weapons specialist, or armorer, along with a Western-style gun belt used in the scene. Detective Cano did not say what the armorer told investigators who arrived at the Bonanza Creek resort, where the film was shooting.

Ms. Hutchins, who was 42, was sitting in front of Mr. Souza, the director, watching the scene play out when the projectile struck her, the police said.

The armorer “was given the prop gun after it was fired by actor Alec Baldwin” and “then took the spent casing” out of the weapon before handing it over to the police, Detective Cano wrote.

Mr. Baldwin “was wearing Old Western style clothing during the filming,” and changed into his street clothes before turning over his costume to the department’s evidence technician, he wrote.

“These clothes appeared to have blood stains,” Detective Cano added.

The sheriff’s office says it is still unclear why a gun used as a prop killed one person.

The investigation into Thursday’s shooting is “active and ongoing,” and crucial details remain unknown, the Santa Fe County sheriff’s office said on Friday afternoon.

“Detectives entered the movie set today and continue to interview potential witnesses,” said Juan Rios, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office. “Apparently there were quite a few people at the scene of what happened.”

He said that Alec Baldwin, who fired the fatal shot, had gone to the sheriff’s office voluntarily on Thursday to deliver his statement and had been “very cooperative.”

Mr. Rios was not able to identify the type of gun or projectile involved, or to answer the central question of how it ended up killing the film’s director of photography and wounding the director.

“Regarding the projectile, a focus of the investigation is what type it was and how did it get there,” he said.

The details of the shooting are still hazy.

In a 911 call, audio of which was obtained by The Albuquerque Journal, a woman who identified herself as a script supervisor reported that two people had been “accidentally shot by a prop gun.” According to the newspaper, the woman said she didn’t know if the gun had contained a real bullet, adding: “We were rehearsing and it went off and I ran out. We all ran out.”

Mr. Rios said investigators were executing search warrants at Bonanza Creek Ranch, where the shooting took place.

“It’s barely been 24 hours since this happened,” he said. “We should have more information at the beginning of next week.”

She’s been feeling bad all day so we went back to the ER. They did another CT scan, this time of her chest, ribs and hips, and they found bowel obstruction.

They’re keeping her overnight and will see if surgery is needed.

Unfortunately I can’t stay- no vacation time left.

    Prayers needed.

Racist banks and other lending institutions. White people who refuse to sell to blacks.

Realtors who tell blacks the place has sold.

So, assuming that the information in that NY Times piece is accurate, it appears to have been a single action revolver converted to fire metallic cartridges (or most likely, a modern replica of one). Unless it was firing some sort of boomerang rounds, they have the order of impact wrong. The DP was sitting in front of the director, and was obviously hit first. It sounds like the round went through her and then hit the director in the shoulder.

That was clearly not an instance of debris being propelled by a blank round, like what happened to Jason Lee. That was a live full power cartridge. That should never have been anywhere near a working set.

It also appears that I was correct about it being a rehearsal, rather than actual filming. That could explain (but not excuse) the lack of a qualified armorer on set at the time.

As much as I loathe Alec Baldwin as a person, I’m inclined to blame the armorer for this one. If it had been his personal gun, and it happened in his house, or at the range, it would be his responsibility to check it. In a situation like this, though, the production company is paying a supposed expert good money to make sure everything is done safely. Nobody expects actors to be firearm safety experts, particularly with antiques. As someone I saw on TV earlier said, it’s a workplace safety issue, not a gun issue.

Not that any of that happens to a significant extent today, but yes, those will be the claims.

Today, with sites like realtor.com and zillow.com that’s literally an impossible claim to make. What he is really saying is that blacks are too stupid to have the innernut and use those sites.

    It’s the ‘voter id’ scam.

What else has changed since 1960 that would affect the disparity, Garland?

While we are on the subject of racism it does exist. Even here in very multi cultural Houston.

An example. When I had a car and pre-covid I went to my local Popeyes and got a box of mixed chicken 8 pieces $15.59. Just chicken no sides. It was good but not much meat on the pieces and there was lots of spare room in the box.

A few weeks later one evening as I was having a beer I desired chicken but did not want to drive drunk so ordered same from Uber Eats. I had a $15 coupon so my chicken delivered just cost fees and tip.

Box was full, no empty space and meaty chicken. AWESOME!

Weeks later drove in person to get my chicken box. Scrawny pieces, box half full.

Then covid struck. ( and car died but that is another story ) so, ordered my chicken online to be delivered. Yep, full box, meaty chicken! The lid on box would not close.

Last Popeyes box of chicken I got delivered actually came in a BIGGER box!

Now, I may be completely misinterpreting this but it seems to me that when I went to Popeyes in person I got a lot less chicken in my box. Still eight pieces but scrawny pieces.

If I had a car I would. Order a delivery online and then go drive to the store and order same thing. Both orders would be prepared at the same time and Popeyes is so close I would be back home before delivery arrived. Weigh both.

Do this several times and see if there is a significant difference.

Physicists Created a Supernova Reaction on Earth Using a Radioactive Beam

how many times have I told you to stay away from the radioactive beams??!!

For the first time, physicists have been able to directly measure one of the ways exploding stars forge the heaviest elements in the Universe.

By probing an accelerated beam of radioactive ions, a team led by physicist Gavin Lotay of the University of Surrey in the UK observed the proton-capture process thought to occur in core-collapse supernovae.

not to mention protons are a bad influence

Merrick Garland Strangely Silent After Indiana School Board Member Tries to Attack Parent at Meeting

we turn to a disturbing incident that took place in Indiana earlier this week that we haven’t heard much about for some reason. Per Indianapolis news outlet WTHR, things got extremely heated during a Shenandoah school board meeting after Jason Greer, a parent who was expressing his opposition to mask mandates for children, was nearly attacked by school board member/assistant secretary Alan Troxell.

Prior to the attempted attack, where Troxell had to be physically restrained (as you’ll see in the video clip), Greer referred to him as an “idiot”:

    @ lobo91:
During an extended exercise we had been moving through swampland for days and sleeping on any bit of dry land we could find. Company night harbor set up with MG posts in sandbagged above ground level positions (digging was not on as they filled with water immediately. Set our loads of trip flares on approaches and settled down for a night swatting mosquitos.

About 2Am had several flares tripped and quite a battle ensued. One of our MG pits was getting over run and I raced the 20m to help them out. One the umpires got a little too involved and was leading an attack on a MG pit. As I arrived I lost my footing and came in sliding on my arse feet first. The Regular Force Umpire loomed over me, as enemy were beating the shit out of our gunners. (We’d been at it for days, and we’d been keeping a Bn ‘awake’ for nights at a time and they were VERY grounchy about it !). The umpire rose up over me intending to whip my arse as well. Instinctively I fired a 7.62 blank into his face and he fell backwards into the swamp. Now I KNEW he was going to whip my arse! As I retreated back to the Company CP, I fell over a 2Lt who slept through the whole thing. Grabbed the bottom of his sleeping bag and emptied him into the swamp and told him to get down to his Pl, grabbed a sugar bag full of para flares and kept the whole scent alight for 30 minutes, until the whole thing died down.

The WO2 Umpire was ‘Dasher’ Wheatly an infamously ‘hard man’ in the Army. He shipped out for his third ‘Nam posting as an advisor with the ARVN, with another Aussie WO2. They were leading an ARVN Bn when they ran over a NVA main force regiment. The ARVN ran away but Wheatly stayed with his now critically wounded Aussie WO2 mate , armed himself with the ARVN Bn’s whole load of 40mm grenade launcher ammunition and fought off a whole NVA Regiment for 30 minutes until both Aussie WOs were finally over run and killed. Dasher earned a posthumous Victoria Cross ( like a Medal of Honor).

I can still remember Wheatly’s shocked look on his face when my blank burned the hairs off his face as he fell backwards into that swamp.
    🙂
