WOOOT! 2-0 last week. Big win for PITT at home! now: 23/29 $1800/$1000. 80% ROI…it was 90% with a low of 40%. If this were real money, i’d quit here too.

Started a brisket last night at 2000, its finishing in the oven and will be done around noon.

Let’s take a look at the games today.

#6 Michigan at #8 Michigan State 12:00 PM FOX: Are the Spartans legit? The battle for Michigan has M as a 4 point favorite. I think MSU can cover and it’s a party in Spartyland today!

Miami at #17 Pittsburgh 12:00 PM ACCN: YINZ SEE THIS???? My beloved Panthers are #17! They are 9 point favorites versus the criminal element from the U. Of course. if Miami were ranked this game would be on one of the networks, but, yet again, Miami was grossly overrated. 9 points? Pitt is coming off a YUGE win versus Clemson last week and won’t cover this week. I sure hope I’m wrong and Pitt blows out the criminal element.

#9 Iowa at Wisconsin 12:00 PM ESPN: Iowa is only a 3 point favorite??? The corn-fed Iowa Hawkeyes cover at Camp Randall.

#20 Penn State at #5 Ohio State 7:30 PM ABC: PSU’s quarterback is still injured but is staring. PSU is a 19.5 point dog. 19.5? yep, OSU covers while PSU continues to collapse.

Back to Texas today. I talked to mom Thursday, and she was sounding a lot better.

I’m still waiting to see if I qualify for FMLA.

    Good news. What’s FMLA?

By. The. Skin. Of. Our. Teeth.

The ISIS terrorist threat against malls in Northern Virginia is credible, they even know some of these guys names. Some are released prisoners from Bagrahm. They were on the evac planes that landed at Dulles. Guess what was waiting for them at Dulles? ‘Culturally appropriate’ food, etc. One of the targeted areas is Alexandria. There is only one major mall there, Springfield, about 1.5 miles from our house.

    Via Jack Posobiec on Bannon.

This is not carelessness, this is deliberate. Happy Halloween!

it allows people to take time off work to deal with problems such as his. i remember the ‘conservatives’ losing their minds when this went to a vote. it’s good stuff tho. it wouldn’t have been needed if companies actually cared about their employees instead of just pretending to.

    From the comments on Instapundit

United emailed us this morning to ask if we want to donate our frequent flyer miles to resettle Afghan refugees. Uh, no.

“Join United MileagePlus® by donating to the Miles4Migrants ‘Billion Mile Challenge’. Together, our goal is to secure 70,000 flights to support Afghan evacuees as they relocate to communities across the country.

To help Miles4Migrants reach their goal, United will provide a free one-way domestic ticket for every 15,000 miles donated by members for an evacuee in need. Also, as a special thank you, customers who donate a minimum of 25,000 miles will receive a $100 TravelBank credit for future travel.

Together, we can help Afghan evacuees begin their new lives here in the U.S.”

    Well, what a strange day!

I went to pick up an application form for a job this morning. Took it outside to fill it in and sat at one of the outdoor tables of an ice cream parlor two doors away. The ice cream place was not open yet, it opened at 11:30am. When it did open I went in and asked if they had coffee. They did not unfortunately. I needed hot coffee as it was a chilly 70F. Anyway I asked the owner of the ice cream store if it was OK I sat outside and finished filling in the application and he said ” yes “.

Took application back to the place I was applying to and got an interview there and then. I start Monday!

As it was slightly warmer by then I went to the ice cream store to buy a soda, The owner asked me if I got the job because he was hiring too.

I told him I did get the job and he said ” He is a nice man to work for next door, he has been trying to get someone for a while, so have I ”

The next door was a medical supplies business. That was not the place I got the job at.

OK sorry for rambling but the story is I went to one business to apply for a job and the next door and the one next to that all needed staff.

Their seems to be a shortage of workers in Houston.

Personally I would be quite happy commenting on an Halloween thread, a football thread and being a complete asshole on an OOT.

But the trend then and now is to just continue to the newest thread.

I really wish in the old days we could have kept the OOT just for the idiots and the serious people stayed on the serious thread.

Anyway now an OOT would be boring as there are only two idiots left in here. LOL all the rest of yinz are old and serious.

    …well, well, well…..isnt THIS interesting!

I saw months ago an article about central Africa and how Covid-19 cases were dramatically lower. Of course lower cases can be the result of less testing.

What was interesting is the fact that central Africa is a haven for all types of parasites. Anti-parasite medication is regularly taken in those areas as a precautionary measure.

OK I did a quick Google, this is an example of what I was talking about.

    https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33795896/

    COVID-19: The Ivermectin African Enigma

Introduction: The low frequency of cases and deaths from the SARS-CoV-2 COVID-19 virus in some countries of Africa has called our attention about the unusual behavior of this disease. The ivermectin is considered a drug of choice for various parasitic and viral diseases and shown to have in vitro effects against SARS-CoV-2.

Aims: Our study aimed to describe SARS-CoV2 infection and death rates in African countries that participated in an intensive Ivermectin mass campaign carried out to control onchocerciasis and compare them with those of countries that did not participate.

Methods: Data from 19 countries that participated in the World Health Organization (WHO) sponsored African Programme for Onchocerciasis Control (APOC), from 1995 until 2015, were compared with thirty-five (Non-APOC), countries that were not included. Information was obtained from https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ database. Generalized Poisson regression models were used to obtain estimates of the effect of APOC status on cumulative SARS-CoV-2 infection and mortality rates.

Results: After controlling for different factors, including the Human Development Index (HDI), APOC countries (vs. non-APOC), show 28% lower mortality (0.72; 95% CI: 0.67-0.78) and 8% lower rate of infection (0.92; 95% CI: 0.91-0.93) due to COVID-19.

Conclusions: The incidence in mortality rates and number of cases is significantly lower among the APOC countries compared to non-APOC countries. That a mass public health preventive campaign against COVID-19 may have taken place, inadvertently, in some African countries with massive community ivermectin use is an attractive hypothesis. Additional studies are needed to confirm it.

Nipah virus emerged in Malaysia in 1998 as a porcine neurologic and respiratory disease that spread to humans who had contact with live, infected pigs. Research reviewed in this paper suggests that anthropogenic factors, including agricultural expansion and intensification, were the underlying causes of its emergence. Nipah virus has caused five subsequent outbreaks between 2001 and 2005 in Bangladesh. Here, it appears to have spilled over directly from bats to humans, and person-to-person transmission is evident suggesting a heightened public health risk.

Story from the crypto world. Someone bought $8,000 of the Shib coin last Jan. Today that investment is worth 5 Billion dollars.

Thing is the investor hasn’t withdrawn a penny. People that know say this is usually because the investor has lost the private key (password) to the account. And also lost the recovery phrases (sloppy book keeping)

So 5 billion left hanging in the wind. And it seems like it happens a lot.

SHIB is riding at .00007 per coin today. All time high is .000086. Robinhood is expected to open up on SHIB trading. The Coinbase crypto exchange app has become the #1 app store download. People are saying this is the only way to hedge against Bidenflation.

shib is a meme coin. Meaning the productivity behind it is mostly meme logic. Or in other words its a bubble that will be rug pulled at some point. Reminds me of the Tulip market. Or a gold rush.

Crypto will shake out and what’s left will be a stable global economy. BTC, SOL, ETH, and ADA are probably stable buys. Most people think only BTC is.

My #2 son the cop had an early call to attend a predawn raid on a gang drugs distribution operation. All the usual subjects turned out, including the detectives and investigators (including #2 son) the AOS (Armed Offenders Squad), and a few from organized crime unit etc. They hit a line up of sleazy motel rooms that housed known gang affiliates and assorted low lifes.

It all went well and my #2 son was holding down one of the gang ringleaders whilst telling his girlfriend to bugger off as she was trying to give the prisoner cigarettes. #2 son saw movement out the corner of his vision about 5 meters away in a doorway. Looked and saw a gang member holding an AK47 pointed directly at #2 son’s center of mass. He yelled ‘GUN’ and the 10 armed cops instantly mobbed the potential shooter, guns drawn. He dropped the AK47 which turned out to be a toy gun, which in the half light at 0530 looked very real.

This idiot was VERY lucky that he isn’t dead. #2 son asked the idiot what he thought he was doing and he said ..” trying to scare you”. #2 son told him that if he’d seen him half a second earlier, he’d have drawn his sidearm and aimed for the idiot’s center of mass and put two into his chest.

Three senior sergeants phoned #2 son to ensure he was OK and then his Inspector of Detectives also rang followed by the Regional Superintendent.
#2 son is a very cool customer and never gets uptight. He appreciated the concern expressed however.

    🙂

yes, it would. But to get sheriffs from three different jurisdictions would be tough to pull of if it’s a hoax.

    So let’s assume it’s not a hoax.

    @ eaglesoars:
I’d get a coinbase account and do their tutorials and their 1 min crypto lessons where it doesn’t cost you anything. All Free. And you get a small amount of crypto to track. That’s at your wallet level. At a high level you could watch the youtube videos by Mark Saylor, Cathi Wood, and Tom Bilyeu

There is a lot of junk coins in the space. The best way to do crypto is get the coinbase account. Then put $100 a week into the account. $50 into Bitcoin,$25 into Ethereum, $20 into some other alt coin. And $5 into risky stuff.

It’s a hard environment to understand. These coins represent companies. Some are strictly networking protocols, some are finance apps, some are games and pretty pictures. It’s called web3. It’s very similar to database work where The database is being decentralized to reside in a millions places in the cloud. The blockchain tracks that. The blockchain is code that scripts the database and maintains security.

I just learn one new thing a day. I can’t even understand what some of these experts are talking about. It is clear to me though that this is an effort to enhance fiat currency systems with a global currency. It’s a hedge against inflation. And you’ll slowly see poor countries turn over their economics to crypto currencies.

Watch a couple of Tom Bilyeu crypto talks. The ones he has with Michael Saylor and Raoul Pal are pretty interesting. Saylor is an MIT grad who turned his company into a Bitcoin machine. Raoul is a macro money manager who understands patterns in money really well and can explain them to a lay person. The Raoul vid is here. https://youtu.be/RennZ2vwY74

I’ve been watching something evolve on twitter (my favorite cesspool). There was a Southwest Airline flight earlier today on which there was a bit of a dustup.

On the flight was a young boy named Brandon, who is a cancer patient traveling to a hospital to receive a bone marrow transplant.

He was sitting next to Stephen Miller (Trump admin).

The pilot said over the intercom (not sure at what point during the flight) said LET’S GO BRANDON!!

And another passenger, an AP reporter, Colleen Long, who covers law enforcement, DOJ and SCOTUS went bat guano nutzoid – and admits it.

    https://twitter.com/ctlong1/status/1454460154435362817

TFW you’re trying to go on vacation and then the pilot says the very thing you’re working on over the loud speaker and you have to try to get him comment but then almost get removed from plane.

Also in defense of airline I was asking them to open locked cock pit and probably sounded insane! [multiple tweets I’ve read said she grabbed a beveridge cart but I think that may be exaggeration. They would have zip tied and duct taped her to her seat. Altho it’s not clear what the scope of ‘ask’ is]

The most hilarious comment on the thread

Cockpit is such a problematic descriptor. Please call it a “flight deck” and refrain from using gendered language in the future.

Alec Baldwin Speaks Out in Public About Shooting Death of ‘Rust’ Cinematographer

Alec Baldwin spoke out as authorities continue to investigate the on-set shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, saying that the woman “was my friend.”

“It’s an active investigation in terms of a woman died, she was my friend,” Baldwin told reporters while he was walking in a rural area in Vermont with his wife, Hilaria Baldwin. “We were a very, very well-oiled crew shooting a film together, and then this horrible event happened,” he added.

A “well-oiled crew”? Really? Is that why half the crew walked off the set even before you killed someone?

His wife was captured on camera filming the actor’s encounter with reporters with a cell phone. Video footage of the interview was posted on TMZ’s website over the weekend.

Baldwin, who New Mexico officials have said shot Hutchins during filming, said the incident was a “one in a trillion event.” Director Joel Souza, 46, was injured during the incident.

“There are incidental accidents on film sets from time to time, but nothing like this,” he added. “This is a one in a trillion episode. It’s a one in a trillion event.”

Yup. Totally random event that nobody could have predicted, right? The fact that you cocked the hammer, pointed the gun at another person, and then pulled the trigger had nothing to do with it, right?

The 63-year-old actor then said he is interested in limiting the usage of firearms on set.

“But remember, how many bullets have been fired in films and TV shows in the last 75 years. This is America,” Baldwin said in a rambling statement to reporters. “How many bullets have gone off in movies and on TV sets before? How many, billions in the last 75 years? And nearly all of it without incident.”

Well, since most people in the industry are smart enough not to use real guns loaded with live ammo on set, the actual answer is pretty close to zero, not “billions.”

He added: “So what has to happen now is, we have to realize that when it does go wrong and it’s this horrible, catastrophic thing, some new measures have to take place. Rubber guns, plastic guns, no live … no real armaments on set. That’s not for me to decide. It’s urgent that you understand I’m not an expert in this field, so whatever other people decide is the best way to go in terms of protecting people’s safety on film sets, I’m all in favor of and I will cooperate with that in any way that I can.”

And here’s the real point. He’s trying to turn this incident into another reason to ban guns. I mean, if a trained professional like him can’t safely use one, they’re obviously too dangerous for ordinary people, much less mouth-breathing NRA members.

    Yup.
Baldwin is now attempting to ‘milk ‘ the shooting that he caused and is 100% responsible for, to garner creds with his communist mates in Tinsel Town. Never let a tragedy go to waste ehh?

Baldwin is a well known sleaze bag with delusions of power and an ego to suit. He raised a totally amoral daughter by just conceiving her and then being to ego driven to raise her properly. He’s the Producer of this movie and obviously has the leadership skills of Caligula when it comes to staff relations. The Buck Stops with HIM on set. HE is responsible for this shooting as it was his thumb that cocked this REAL GUN and his finger that squeezed the trigger, when the barrel was pointed at another human being, without first checking on the safety of the firearm. The Armourer also shoulders responsibility but Baldwin can’t ‘outsource’ the blame entirely onto her shoulders. BUT I BET THIS BASTARD WILL TRY!

I’m A Twenty Year Truck Driver, I Will Tell You Why America’s “Shipping Crisis” Will Not End

I have a simple question for every ‘expert’ who thinks they understand the root causes of the shipping crisis:
Why is there only one crane for every 50–100 trucks at every port in America?
No ‘expert’ will answer this question.

Furthermore, I’m fortunate enough to be a Teamster — a union driver — an employee paid by the hour. Most port drivers are ‘independent contractors’, leased onto a carrier who is paying them by the load. Whether their load takes two hours, fourteen hours, or three days to complete, they get paid the same, and they have to pay 90% of their truck operating expenses (the carrier might pay the other 10%, but usually less.) The rates paid to non-union drivers for shipping container transport are usually extremely low. In a majority of cases, these drivers don’t come close to my union wages. They pay for all their own repairs and fuel, and all truck related expenses. I honestly don’t understand how many of them can even afford to show up for work.
    .
    .
From personal experience, what used to take me 20–30 minutes to pick up at a warehouse can now take three to four hours. This slowdown is warehouse management related: very few warehouses are open 24 hours, and even if they are, many are so short staffed it doesn’t make much difference, they are so far behind schedule. It means that as a freight driver, I cannot pick up as much freight in a day as I used to, and since I can’t get as much freight on my truck, the whole supply chain is backed up. Freight simply isn’t moving.

    @ eaglesoars:

A group of employees from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory are planning a demonstration in Pasadena on Monday decrying a federal vaccine mandate that will require all JPL employees to be fully vaccinated by Dec. 8 or face potential termination.

Members of the group JPLNoVaxMandate plan to host their protest from 7 a.m. to noon at Oak Grove Drive and Foothill Boulevard, near Hahamongna Watershed Park, organizers said.

In keeping with a federal mandate affecting all federal contractors, including JPL, employees will need to have their final doses of vaccine by Nov. 23 in order to meet the requirement, as vaccination is not considered complete until two weeks after the final dose.

“Effective Dec. 8, 2021, vaccination will be a condition of employment for JPL employees and a requirement for badged affiliates and contractors working for JPL, regardless of whether you work on Lab, at another JPL facility, or elsewhere off-site,” the policy states.

Those who fail to meet the requirement will be placed on a six-week unpaid leave, JPL Business Administrator and, JPLNoVaxMandate member Taylor Ingram said.

“And at that point, if we’re not vaccinated, we will lose our jobs. JPL has not given us the option to continue testing. This applies for employees that are working at home full time, employees that are working out of state,” she said.

“So we’re going to lose our jobs and we believe that there are as many as 1,000 employees at JPL who have not received the vaccine,” according to Ingram. “However, we don’t have any way of finding out what that number actually is unless we start protesting and making other employees aware of our movement.”

The demonstration is not in opposition to vaccination, but in support of personal liberty, said JPL Engineering Development Technician and JPLNoVaxMandate member Caleb Macy.

“There’s a number of us that are very concerned about the implications to our freedoms. And if the government, or anyone, is given the right to tell you what you have to have in your body, that leads down a very dark path,” he said.

“We have both people who are vaccinated and not vaccinated in our group, but everybody is just wanting to stand for body sovereignty, the right to choose, and medical freedom,” Macy said.

There is French non-mRNA true vaccine, VALNEVA, manufactured in the UK and France. I was scheduled to partake in the next round of Level 3 trials but NZ trialists withdrew so now I’m at a loss.

Still there is still NOVOVAX, another NON_mRNA vaccine that like Valneva is a normal standard flu shot like all of the other standard flu shots of the past.

The Aussies are due to OK Novovax by Christmas, for general vaccinations.

There are an increasing number of emerging true vaccines that do NOT depend on the technology of m-RNA genetic (so called) vaccines.

The best strategy is WAIT and ensure you have access to the list of Theraputics coming onto the market.

    Oh. Fuck.

You thought some of the Fed Reserve honchos doing insider trading was bad? Look at this nightmare

The Federal Reserve hired BlackRock, which manages $7 trillion in assets, to run a portion of their quantitative easing program. This is a glaring conflict of interest. Not only is BlackRock paid $8 million per year to run this scam, BlackRock could buy its own bonds out.

    https://twitter.com/NancyTracker/status/1454955600496967680

A Glaring New Conflict Of Interest Undermines Public Trust In Federal Reserve

The Federal Reserve just made the problem of financial firms considered ‘too big to fail’ a whole lot bigger.

That’s because the U.S. central bank has hired investment giant BlackRock BLK +0.9%,* which manages some $7 trillion in assets, to run purchases of corporate bonds and commercial mortgages that are part of its response to the pandemic-led recession.
    .
    .
During the last crisis, BlackRock’s assets under management were $1.3 trillion, so they have ballooned in size by over five times in just a decade.

Under the Fed’s program, BlackRock “could buy some of its own funds on behalf of the central bank,” according to Bloomberg. It doesn’t take a financial expert to find that kind of self-dealing fishy.

    @ coldwarrior:

So, don’t hold back, tell us how you really feel.

/Sorry, that apparently is a very sore point. I think the company from which I retired is headed the same way; it’s no longer about making the best product or designing world-class solutions. Well it is, as long as it is “innovation through diversity”, “diversity is our strength” and “get vaccinated or get fired”. Screw them. I’’m ditching all of my company stock in our retirement funds and putting that money into mutual funds — after all, “there is strength in diversity”. Mrs. Federalist has 4 years to go and she is out of there as well.

Darned shame that is. Gee, I wonder how that could have been prevented? … the fact that it inconvenienced probably 10’s of thousands of passengers should send a message.

The “fact” that the Pfizer vaccine is FDA approved and also now FDA approved for children has no meaning any more. Let me re-state that emphatically: Based upon the actions of this past year, FDA approvals are meaningless in terms of providing any assurance of safety or efficacy. Meaningless.

I know and I know it only from you. There is NOTHING on any of the sites I monitor (and you know I monitor a few).

    But I missed NOVOVAX somehow.

But why did the trialists withdraw?

Couldn’t ID enough unvaxed in the groups they needed for a statistically accurate study.

There are only a few ‘purebloods’ left in NZ!
