NCAA Football Week 7 2022 OPEN

IT’S AN OPEN THREAD!

We went in last week $1500/$1000 for the year, last week we were 2/4…so still at $1500/$1000. I would have quit if this were real money.

Let’s get to it!

  @  5 Michigan
12:00 PM

This should be one hell of a football game in The Big House, classic Big 10 stuff. M is giving 7 at home. I like PSU to cover.

  @  6 Tennessee
3:30 PM

Rain is pleased this year! The Vols look Great! Now, here is their biggest test in years, they have to play ‘Bama at home to prove that they belong. The Vols are getting 9 at home and the starting QB for ‘Bama has a bum shoulder. The money on this game has been the most this year. The pros think The Vols cover, so do I. Do they win? I’d like to see that.

  @  Florida
7:00 PM

The Tigers are only 2 point favorites at Florida. I don’t like this line, LSU covers.

7:30 PM

Clemson is only getting 5??? Yeah, they cover.

7 USC
  @  20 Utah
8:00 PM

USC is ranked 7th? OK. Prove it. They are giving 3 at Utah. I think they cover.

I think I’ve discovered the secret to good health. Don’t go to the doctor. I went yesterday and told them about a problem with my leg where I have pain after getting up from resting it. This has been happening since July. So, they are preparing PT and ortho appointments for me. Starting last night, the pain changed to constant. Seriously this sucks.

Funny how the left’s screaming about the end of democracy when 30,000 non citizens were mailed ballots in Colorado, a Republican was left off the ballot in Michigan, and the Secretary of State in PA has decided to ignore a US Supreme Court ruling on signatures on envelopes holding ballots.

Classification & Compensation Study — I was reviewing these from some local government. They want to spend money to determine how much to pay their employees. In the days of the internet these things are a waste of taxpayer dollars. One can easily peg and weight all jobs in the country and measure them against local wages. Just match IT network admin against the housing inventory and the cost of rent. Then see who wants the job at that price. Raise as needed. (they never go lower)

pay the mayor 1.5 times the IT network admin II salary.

Adams is an asshole. The insurance companies see the actuarial tables and they’re getting ready to sue pharma. Their payouts in the cohort of excess deaths is massive. Ed Dowd has been covering this for months, as have others. It’s not exactly a secret

Congrats to the Vols. What a game. They have definitely earned a place at the NC table this year. I was rooting for Penn State vs TTUN, but it was clear in the 2nd half they could not contain the run. Shame. It is still a tough team to beat.

US Navy is targeting Gen Z for recruitment with the catch phrase “Saying never actually is” whatever that means.

Never is boring. Because when you say you’ll never join the Navy, what you’re really saying is you’ll never land a fighter jet on an aircraft carrier. You’ll never work with astronauts in the space program. Never travel the world by sea. Never chase a storm. Never save a life. Joining the Navy sounds crazy. But missing out on a lifetime of adventure is way crazier. Stop saying never and start your journey now at https://bit.ly/3CpnVB3.

In Dec 2008, some of my old team at what was then Quest organized a get-together-catch-up dinner at a nice restaurant. Obama had just been elected. I had been out of the corporate life for a few years. One of my old mates – actually I’d been her boss – was there, Yeva. From Kiev. A Jew. She had an interesting life story and she was no fool. She and I were the only ones who understood what Obama meant and nobody believed us when we told them what he was and what it meant.

    They do now.

BTW, touched base with Yeva a few months ago. Kids are flown, she and hubby live in Atlanta now. All family safe.

I started with black, I’ve never had blue

But what I’ve found out is that I REALLY like ordinary salmon roe. I’m working on a simple breakfast thing.

A 2 egg omlette with scallions, roe/caviar, wasabi and soy on the side.

The omlette has been the problem. I finally figured out to use ghee instead of regular butter. It’s less likely to ‘burn’ as the whey isn’t there.

It’s been a lot of fun. Takes no time. OH JEEZ DID I SCREW THAT UP? Eat it, toss it, try again.

Also, the pan size has turned out to be important AND the amount of butter. The recipes I started with had too much. Getting THAT right has turned out to be important.

    Thank god for gas stoves.

Have you ever wondered how it was done before Teflon? I looked into it and various cultures developed it on their own independently. It’s not as tho it’s complicated – eggs, hot pan, eat. In Japan, Persia, etc., they all have it. In Japan, they’re square. And sugar? Yeppers. I remember in Spain you had them as tapas but the texture was different from what I’m learning now. I think they used more eggs. But I AM going to go for the crispy potato filling. Crispy potatoes are a challenge in themselves.

    I’m easily entertained, yes.

How hurdles for transgender voters may affect November’s midterms

In two states — Tennessee and Georgia — restrictive policies that require transgender residents to provide proof of gender-affirming surgery, a court order or an amended birth certificate to change their gender designation on state-issued driver’s licenses is compounded with some of the most stringent voter ID laws in the country.

Under Georgia state law, photo identification is required to cast a ballot. If an ID is not presented, a vote may be cast using a provisional ballot, but the voter is required to return to the polling place within three days to show proof of identification. In Tennessee, an ID must be presented within two days of voting.

Women are boycotting Estée Lauder after featuring a trans woman in TikTok ad

    https://www.rebelnews.com/women_are_boycotting_estee_lauder_after_featuring_a_trans_woman_in_tiktok_ad

The makeup brand Estée Lauder is under fire again for a TikTok video they posted in March 2022.

The video caption reads, “What is Cricket’s favorite part about being a woman? Living in FULL COLOR ✨❤️,” and has garnered over 10,000 views on the social media app.

It features a transgender woman named Cricket Temple who is a scientist for the company. In the 21-second video, Temple describes what the most enjoyable aspect of being a woman is. Additionally, Cricket says, “I lead the change by bringing to attention the things that people would rather not see, both in science and in society.”
    .
    .
Estée Lauder owns several other beauty, skincare and hair brands, and a list of each brand is currently circulating online to encourage people to boycott them. Some notable brands include Aveda, Bobbi Brown, Clinique, Bumble & Bumble, Smashbox, and Tom Ford.

    Semiconductors: China Is Fucked

I already touched on this story in Friday’s LinkSwarm, but lots of other people are now twigging to just how huge a story this is. Let’s start with that: “US Firms Pull Staff From China’s Top Chip Maker As Economic War Worsens.”
    .
    .
It’s hard to overemphasize how badly fucked China’s chip industry is with this latest move. Semiconductor equipment not only needs regular maintenance, but extremely specialized expertise when something goes wrong and your yields crash, wizards who can look at a wafer defect chart and determine by experience what’s gone wrong with which tool. Without support and spare parts from the western semiconductor equipment giants, expect yields to start crashing in a matter of months, if not weeks, especially if Applied Materials and Tokyo Electron join the pullout.

I just put in a call to the Applied Materials press office to ask them about this. I’ll let you know if I hear back.

As Peter Zeihan notes, these sanctions screw not only China’s semiconductor industry, but every segment of the high tech assembly chain that depends on them.

Well, lookie here. Somebody actually has a pair

BlackRock’s focus on the latest Wall Street craze—environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing—has turned into a risky affair for the world’s largest asset manager, a UBS analyst recently said.

Brennan Hawken, an analyst at the bank, downgraded the stock of BlackRock (NYSE: BLK) to Neutral from Buy and slashed the stock price target to $585 from $700 over growing pushback to its ESG efforts.

“We are downgrading BLK to Neutral based on environmental pressure to earnings and risk from the firm’s ESG positioning,” Hawken wrote in a note, stating that BlackRock could face increased regulatory inspection and the possibility of diminished fund management business.

    Seems like a scheduling problem.

In a statement issued late on Monday and entitled “declaration of exceptional operational situation”, Spain’s national gas grid operator Enagas said it may have to reject unloads of LNG due to overcapacity at its terminals.

It added that high occupation levels at the country’s regasification plants was expected to remain at least until the first week of November.

There are also LNG vessels at anchor near other European countries which could mean dozens more are waiting, one source with knowledge of the situation said.

“Floating storage levels in LNG shipping is at all time high levels with slightly more than 2.5million tonnes tied up in floating storage,” said Oystein Kalleklev, chief executive of shipowner FLEX LNG Management.

This Nearly Lost Ancient Grain Tradition Could Be the Future of Farming

Ethiopia is one of the few places in the world where farmers still grow maslins, the general term for different varieties and species of grain that are sown in the same field, or intercropped. Maslins sustained humans for millennia, possibly predating the rise of agriculture more than 10,000 years ago. These grain mixtures tend to be more resilient to pests and drought, and to lend more complex flavors to breads, beer, and booze.

‘Steele dossier’ ‘collector’ found not guilty on all counts

A federal jury in Alexandria, Virginia, delivered a verdict of not guilty on all four counts against Igor Danchenko, the Russian national accused of lying to federal investigators about information he collected in 2016 for former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele that was included in Steele’s now-infamous “dossier” detailing Donald Trump’s alleged ties to Russia.

A Washington-based think tank analyst, Danchenko was hired by Steele to contribute intelligence information to Steele’s research. He became a primary source to what came to be known as the “Steele dossier,” which included explosive and unproven claims about Trump.

In a November 2021 indictment, prosecutors accused Danchenko of misleading FBI agents about his sources of information.

In a statement outside of court after the ruling, Danchenko defense attorney Stuart Sears said, “We’ve known all along Mr. Danchenko was innocent. We are happy now that the American public knows that as well. We thank these jurors with their hard work and deliberation for reaching the right result.”

Danchenko’s trial was the final case of three prosecutions secured by special counsel John Durham in his years-long probe into alleged misconduct by the FBI and intelligence community in their investigation of Trump’s ties to Russia.

When we first got here, I asked my new friends who they use to shovel them out of their driveways in the winter (we have a long driveway)

They looked at me like I was from another planet.

“That doesn’t happen here. It melts before sundown”

    And guess what? It does!

The biggest snowfall we had last year was under 3 inches.

Danchenko Walks: Leftwing Alexandria, Virginia Jury Once Again Acquits a Guilty-as-Sin Russiagate Figure

Special counsel John Durham stepped into a federal courtroom this week, officially to try Igor Danchenko for lying to the FBI as part of the 2016 Russia-collusion scam. Unofficially, Mr. Durham is putting the Federal Bureau of Investigation itself on trial for incompetence and political chicanery.
That’s the now unmistakable mission of the Durham prosecutions. The special counsel is using tried-and-true “lying to the feds” charges to unravel for the public the hoax–which on its face requires painting the FBI as dupes. Yet every filing and witness question is instead building Mr. Durham’s case of rank FBI malfeasance.

Mr. Danchenko pleaded not guilty, His trial–and prior to it Mr. Durham’s unsuccessful prosecution of Democratic lawyer Michael Sussmann–has by now yielded a scandalous portrait of an FBI willing to take nearly any step–and cut any corner–to harm Donald Trump…

    https://ace.mu.nu/archives/401442.php

Well, Durham, don’t try to portray the FBI as dupes when they are quite obviously co-conspirators. He brought a knife to a gunfight and essentially lied to the jury.

Altho Ace is right about moving these trials out of Northern Virginia.

I bet it wasn’t just Appalachian women who recycled these, but I find this fascinating. Probably because my (paternal) grandmother had kept some of these dresses and offered them to my mom (who politely declined). Mimi didn’t have any daughters but she had TONS of granddaughters. By the time Mimi died, the dresses had disappeared but I wish I had understood and put some aside.

Missouri Latest State To Divest From BlackRock Over ‘Woke’ ESG Agenda

    https://climatechangedispatch.com/missouri-latest-state-to-divest-from-blackrock-over-woke-esg-agenda/

Missouri State Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick [pictured] announced Tuesday morning in a statement first provided to FOX Business that the Missouri State Employees’ Retirement System (MOSERS), of which he is a member, sold all public equities managed by BlackRock. [bold, links added]

With the announcement, Missouri joins a growing list of Republican-led states who have quit BlackRock and other banks over their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives.

“This is the right thing to do for Missouri state employees who rely on the assets managed by MOSERS for their retirement,” Fitzpatrick told FOX Business.

“Fiduciary duty must remain the top priority for investment managers—a duty some of them have abdicated in favor of forcing a left-wing social and political agenda that has failed to succeed legislatively, on publicly traded companies.”

altho what’s that ‘flat’ rate thing you have to pay before the marginal rate kicks in?

  156. coldwarrior
    159 | October 19, 2022 1:49 pm

    @ eaglesoars:
you get taxes a certain rate as you move through the tax brackets.

1st bracket is 10% on those earnings $0 to X dollars

2nd is higher % from X (the top of the last brackete) dollars to Y dollars

    3rd is higher

    etc.

the percentage paid is only on money earned within that bracket. so if the bracket ends t 100k and is 22% and you earn 110K

you pay the higher next bracket rate on the additional 10k only

    https://www.investopedia.com/terms/m/marginaltaxrate.asp

    explains it nicely

One think I like to do with regular ole white bread is to add dried herbs to the dough. I like a combo of marjoram/oregano/thyme, equal amounts of all. I use a tablespoon of each but you may want to start with half that. The bread can look a bit ‘green’ but it tastes great!

I agree kneading the dough gives a much finer texture (and then there’s the pure pleasure of kneading, which is total zen), but there are times when you just don’t have it.

Also, convection ovens give a nice, crispy result. My oven is dual mode so I can go conventional or convection. I have a steam tray but I haven’t tried that yet. I got a bread proofing box awhile ago I still haven’t tried yet, want to do that in a few days.

Officials say that USCP officers noticed a small white van illegally parked outside the Supreme Court on Wednesday at about 3:45 p.m. along the 100 block of East Capitol Street.

The driver of the van told officers that he “had guns in the van,” according to a statement from the USCP. When officers entered the van, they found two handguns and a shotgun, police said.

While police searched the van, the driver, a woman, and another man were detained. Tony H. Payne of Tunnel Hill, Georgia, 80, was arrested and charged with unregistered firearm, unregistered ammunition, and carrying a pistol without a license.

You can only legally possess ammunition in DC if you have a gun that’s registered with the city. And even then, you can only have ammunition in the caliber that’s used by that gun.

I could have told them that. People always like to talk about how there are all these people in prison for years because they had a joint or something.

In the seven years that I worked in a prison, I remember exactly 2 inmates who were there for marijuana-related charges. Each of them had in excess of 400 pounds.

Why Global Elites Won’t End War in Ukraine Until Russia is Destroyed

As the establishment continues to pump out more finely tuned propaganda to support throwing eye-watering stacks of money at Ukraine, it’s glaringly apparent the conflict isn’t ending anytime soon, at least if the western elites get their way.

Unless you are blindfolded by media narratives, the money thrown at Ukraine is painful to watch, especially coinciding with soaring inflation, gas prices, and energy costs. Meanwhile, vast swathes of Europe – specifically Germany, face a complete grid collapse and possibly famine, made worse by the recent Nord Stream pipeline sabotage.

Those daring to question why the Ukraine war is dragging on are labeled Pro-Putin sympathizers or conspiracy theorists – the usual tactics the liberal media deploys in order to shame us into silence.
    .
    .
The dollar’s borrowing power is artificially inflated due to its use as the world reserve currency. Most transactions are conducted in U.S. dollars, forcing nations to sell goods to the U.S. in exchange for fiat paper.

In 2012, nations like Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa embarked on serious discussions of forming their own bank to finance infrastructure.

In 2014, an agreement was signed to create the New Development Bank to finance projects in the BRICS nations.

This was a significant threat to the Federal Reserve and the global elites because it offered alternative credit sourcing. The BRICS bank created development loans using fractional reserve lending, increasing the money supply without the consent of the fed.

Man, talk about picking a fight you REALLY don’t want.

Mexico’s president said he has been discussing with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken the possibility of merging the American continent into an EU-style of governance.

“Mr. Blinken talked about consolidating the North American region, and we agreed on that,” President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said during a press conference last month.

“Not only did I tell him that we were in agreement with consolidating ourselves as a region, including the three countries—Canada, the United States, Mexico—but we were also in favor of the unity of the entire American continent to repeat our project that, just as the European community first emerged and became the European Union. That is what we want, which is [Simón] Bolivar’s dream, but integrating Canada, the United States, all of the Americas.”

My paternal grandmother made pies out the yazoos since she was 16 yrs old all year long. The method was nothing like we’re taught now. But maybe the wheat/flour was different. Also she picked the cherries off the tree in her yard. I don’t know. Also, she had one of those stoves, cast iron or something. Various compartments. I know it was gas but that’s all I remember.

It was very different from my [maternal] grandmother in New Orleans. Electric stove. The woman pretended she couldn’t cook to save her life but leave the bay leaf out of the red beans and rice and it was worth YOUR life. Now, of course, I wish all of them were still around so I could ask.

Driving the news: The Truss government’s aggressive tax-cutting plans roiled bond markets, and the resulting surge in yields wreaked havoc on U.K. pensions. Although that drama was relatively contained to Britain, warning signs for the U.S. are beginning to assert themselves.

I have a ways to go before I understand all this, so I still think the tax cuts were a good idea, altho I ‘get’ that debt is an issue

“Not only did I tell him that we were in agreement with consolidating ourselves as a region, including the three countries—Canada, the United States, Mexico—but we were also in favor of the unity of the entire American continent to repeat our project that, just as the European community first emerged and became the European Union. They use frozen chickens loaded into sabots to get a nice tight fit in the launch tube. Then apply a few thousand PSI to their arse and you have a cold chicken that never travelled that fast in their short lives.

From a NON-tasting perspective however about 30 gulls running into a Roles Royce fan-jet just after take off is quite interesting. Engine #1 was running like a lawnmower and #2 engine just went from Take Off Thrust to STOPPED in about half a revolution. How it never fell off the wing is anyone’s guess given that much torque! We only spent 8 minutes from take off until we rolled to a stop outside the terminal again!

Didn’t do much for sea gull body structure either.

    🙂

Just reading Hell’s Cartel about IG Farben the huge German cartel. Started off as a dye manufacturer and invented Asprin, and 65 years later was making Hitler’s poison gas and ammunition.

So some woman on the Fairfax County School Board used the word ‘retarded’ to refer to disabled children.

And the world has ended. Granted, it is not a word that is helpful but ‘inflicted permanent damage on an entire community”? I think not.

She can apologize (she has), get fired (probably will be), new guidelines written (guaranteed) and yada yada yada.

It changes nothing except that the people whose hair ignited will collect a trophy corpse

Which does nothing for those kids. Who were never harmed in any material way in the first place.

    Well, Newsmax caved.

Newsmax ends relationship with Lara Logan after world leaders ‘blood of children’ comment

While appearing on Eric Bolling’s evening program on the small conservative cable network, Logan spoke of what she said is a cabal of world leaders that “want us eating insects” while they “dine on the blood of children.”

“God believes in sovereignty and national identity and the sanctity of family, and all the things that we’ve lived with from the beginning of time. And he knows that the open border is Satan’s way of taking control of the world through all of these people who are his stooges and his servants,” Logan said.

I’m betting it was the God/Satan stuff that was the trigger……….

Ok, I have been following the trial of Darrell Brooks whois the person accused of driving through the parade in Waukesha in Wisconsin last November killing six and severely injuring 62.

    He is representing himself.

Today was day 12 of the trial and Mr Brooks is calling witnesses for his defense.

If you want a taste of how the trial has been going for the last 11 days then watching just today will give you an idea.

It is on YouTube and watching at 1.5 times speed it is still watchable.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoH7bpS4NvE

Now remember that today the defendant is calling witnesses to try to prove he is innocent. His main defense is that it was not him in the red SUV and the SUV was honking and had tinted windows.

Even if you don’t want or desire to watch the all of today’s proceedings I will draw your attention to the testimony of Kathleen Yourell starting at the 5:25:00 mark.

She saw the red SUV that had been dumped in a driveway neer her home but could not identify who the driver was as she did not have her glasses on. OK so far.

A defense witness saying that she could not identify the driver. Perfect ” it wasn’t me ” defense.

You would NEVER have imagined what came out when the prosecutors cross examined the DEFENSE witness.

Anyway same type of questioning, was the car honking? Did you see the occupant(s), was it speeding at the time, were windows tinted etc.

Cross starts at 7:53:00 by prosecution. Remember she is witness for the defense.

    I won’t post a spoiler…..
