777 Expedition

Last week, a group of SOF veterans led by retired SEAL Andy Stumpf (probably best known to most people for hosting the Cleared Hot podcast) embarked on an epic mission. The goal: Conduct 7 freefall parachute jumps on 7 continents within 7 days. With that, the 777 (Triple 7) Expedition was born.

The current world record for jumping onto each of the seven continents is approximately seven months.  This intrepid group set out to do it in just seven days.

The organization behind the whole event is Legacy Expeditions, which bills itself as a “boutique adventure capitalist firm.” Their mission is to to “bring world record-setting attempts and expeditions to life, all while upholding the memories and legacies of fallen U.S. and Allied Troops lost during the Global War on Terrorism.” Past expeditions have included Mt. Everest and Iceland.

This year’s trek is devoted to raising money for the Folds of Honor foundation, which provides scholarships for families of America’s fallen or disabled military and first responders. Since 2007, Folds of Honor has provided more than 44,000 scholarships.  The fundraising goal for the 777 Expedition is to raise $7 million, which will pay for 1400 scholarships. If anyone is interested in donating, follow this link.

So, me being an asshole was going to comment how the cheap bastards were going to fly from Dubai to Perth because it was almost 2000 miles shorter and then…

Looking at Google maps and kind of south of the route from Dubai to Perth there are many islands.

Many with British sounding names but one stood out.

Elephant Island. When was it discovered? When was it named? Why elephant island? Don’t think there are elephants in the Antarctic but if there are elephants are they Asian ( small ears ) or African ( big floppy ears )

If Elephant Island was named before 1957 when Sputnik went into orbit we have a problem…..

It all comes down to POWER and privilege. lark Gayford the bitch’s squeeze is a washed up D list local TV presenter who failed at every show he’s tried to front. The first was a total failure so he was reangled onto a fishing and diving show which [predictably failed as well, BUT he was the PM’s live in fiancé who got her pregnant so he got yet another pass by the State TV bosses. Then he blotted his copybook by fucking the live in help and getting her pregnant. The nanny had to leave the country and return to Brazil to have the kid. Then Gayford gets a show about cutting old houses in half putting them on trucks and transporting them to other locations. I kid you not.
They will make shows about anything… just as long as these shows are cheap to make. So Gayford, who took to his boat and disappeared to behind Waihiki Island, until the MDM lost interest in his latest accidental fatherhood SNAFU, is going to have to make an honest woman of our Cindi!

Klaus Schwab’s Father Ran ‘National Socialist Model Company’, Exploited Nazi Slave Labor

    https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/benbartee/2023/01/17/klaus-schwabs-father-ran-national-socialist-model-company-exploited-nazi-slave-labor-n1662608

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Davos frontman Klaus Schwab’s daddy, Eugen Schwab, while the Third Reich was ravaging Europe in the 1930s and 40s, served as managing director of Escher Wyss Ravensburg, an engineering firm that constructed turbines and fighter plane parts for the regime.

While the elder Schwab worked in this capacity, the Nazis awarded Escher Wyss Ravensburg the prestigious title of “National Socialist Model Company” for all of its hard work in the service of the Führer.

To achieve this recognition, Escher-Wyss Ravensburg, under Eugen Schwab’s leadership, utilized Nazi slave labor and prisoners of war in its facilities.

Ravensburg itself, aside from the slave factory, was the site of numerous Nazi crimes against humanity, such as forced sterilization for the purpose of “racial improvement.” But to Eugen Schwab, that was just the cost of doing business with the Third Reich.

You want to make an omelet, you gotta break some eggs, right?

Ravensburg, mostly a women’s concentration camp, was where they murdered ‘Vera’s Girls’, the women the Brits sent into France etc as spies, radio operators. At least 2 were thrown into the ovens alive, the others were injected with poison and thrown into the ovens before death.

Some things interest me that others do not care about.

Elephant Island. Why the name? Best estimate was it was named that because some crazy Brit mapping the Antarctica in 1816 or so found an Island that had elephant seals on it.

Sounds plausible. This was before satellites or even aerial photography was in widespread use in remote areas like the Antarctic.

I think Elephant Island was named by aliens thousands of years ago….

    https://theconservativetreehouse.com/blog/2023/01/18/december-retail-sales-drop-1-1-november-sales-data-revised-lower-to-1-0/#more-242303

After 20 months of dropping unit sales, a result of massive price increases; and as the rate of inflation now starts to moderate created by the cyclical nature of it; what we now see is the inability of the price increases to continue hiding the drop in unit sales. [Background pdf Data] Total retail sales data is now exposed and that’s why we will see this increasing story about negative sales data as the inflation cycle plateaus.

The lights have been on at a Massachusetts school for over a year because no one can turn them off

WILBRAHAM, Mass. — For nearly a year and a half, a Massachusetts high school has been lit up around the clock because the district can’t turn off the roughly 7,000 lights in the sprawling building.

The lighting system was installed at Minnechaug Regional High School when it was built over a decade ago and was intended to save money and energy. But ever since the software that runs it failed on Aug. 24, 2021, the lights in the Springfield suburbs school have been on continuously, costing taxpayers a small fortune.

“We are very much aware this is costing taxpayers a significant amount of money,” Aaron Osborne, the assistant superintendent of finance at the Hampden-Wilbraham Regional School District, told NBC News. “And we have been doing everything we can to get this problem solved.”

@ eaglesoars: I have posted elsewhere: The “leak” would have been simple to pull off, in that, with over 140 legal clerks, several of them will have lovers or partners who are associated with the numerous political, ideological, or advocacy, groups in DC. All it would take is a clerk to take a draft home, leave it on the kitchen table, and voila ! the other partner reads through the opinion and leaks it ! It’s that simple, and DC is that partisan.

I have an IMI (Israeli Military Industries) Level IV front and back plates. Used to market them to government agencies. Went down to NZ Police HQ to deliver an example for testing. Carried it onto the airplane and nobody even realised as it was inside a green nylon carrier vest. Back in the day a skipper I was crewing with was a test pilot and was going to test a stunt airplane in Wellington . Not wanting to throw his parachute into the hold, he carried it up the stairs over his shoulder and disappeared into the cockpit. Apparently some of the folks from down the back got a wee bit upset.

He got a ‘rev up’ from the company’s Chief Pilot for upsetting passengers!

I am under the impression – perhaps mistaken – that nothing of the kind leaves the building. Or is supposed to, anyway.

I have been privy to a LOT of matters that have never been made public because of my husband’s professional work on the Hill. Some of it I’ve talked about here but NEVER have I betrayed his trust to keep my mouth shut when he’s told me “This had better not get out”. Not said as a caution to me to shut it, but as a “Holy shit” kind of thing.

My take is that SCOTUS has a VERY good idea how this happened, but if they reveal it, they reveal holes they want no one to know about. Anything that goes on will go on behind the scenes.

Of course, if Scalia were alive, he’d set fire to the building.

    The Metaverse is a Nightmare

[like, who didn’t see this coming?]

“I am totally immersed in the metaverse, have a big headset on, and then I need to take off the Oculus, look on my phone for the two-factor authentication code that’s been sent to my phone, then memorize the number, put my headset back on, and try to key it in,” an employee at the tech-consulting firm Accenture, a major Meta funder that’s attempting to implement Oculus into the workspace, griped to Slate. “But when you take off the Oculus it automatically goes to sleep mode, and I was trying to navigate the back-and-forth.”

Stupid smart people. You think a nurse in the ER is going to go to the metaverse to get a diagnosis while you lay there bleeding out? You can’t pay for your groceries with cash because ‘the system’ requires a QR code?

Some things take a really long to text. A simple conversation takes hours.

Prior to 1876 the only means of communicating via long distances was Morse code over telegraph wires.

Then Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone where people could actually speak to each other!

Doesn’t matter if you’re religious or not, this is a FANTASTIC piece by Mark Judge

The left is the deadly enemy of joy. This is why Adam Kinzinger recently made fun of Lauren Boebert for dancing. You can’t attain Utopia if people are dancing and skateboarding and gardening and racing mini-bikes and having keg parties; it’s much more important to police dance clubs and censor jokes.

In his book Burning Down the Haus: Punk Rock, Revolution, and the Fall of the Berlin Wall, Tim Mohr explores how the postwar German Stasi harassed, monitored, and beat punk rockers. As I once noted in The Stream, it’s telling how many times the word “fun” is used by the anti-Stasi punks to explain what they were doing. Between 1981 and 1985 one of the most popular bands behind the Iron Curtain was Wutanfall (“Tantrum”), a Leipzig six-piece who, Mohr writes, “represented a loose but dedicated opposition to the state.”

When I was living near Georgetown University in the middle of the 1980s, it was possible to go out at night for several hours, meet dozens of people, and not know what any of them thought about politics — the state had no place on the dance floor. It’s where I always closely felt the presence of God. I was in the middle of Washington, D.C., yet Capitol Hill might as well have been on the moon.

    https://stream.org/the-night-also-belongs-to-the-lord/

yep. CW and I were talking recently about Iron Fist and I was recalling how we first met in person after some years on the swamp blog. It was at reaganite’s meetup/birthday party at his and Ann’s place at FT Brag. We got absolutely shit faced and went outside and danced in the dark under the stars and the moon. You don’t need to do the shit faced part, but definitely do the dance part.

I can’t believe what just happened. I met up with friends for breakfast at Paradis Books and Bread in North Miami & while we were having discussions about politics we were told by the owner that we were not welcomed there because we aren’t politically aligned. Outrageous.

    https://twitter.com/GiannoCaldwell/status/1616862353286647808

(does anyone remember Sarah Huckabee Sanders and the Little Red Hen Restaurant in Virginia? One of the reasons we left that shit hole)

The next day, Caldwell appeared on “Fox & Friends Weekend” to discuss the incident. He said the discussion in question was benign.

He simply answered questions like, “Are you a conservative?” and “How do you like working over at Fox News?”

Then, he talked with the group about his brother, who was gunned down in Chicago last year.

“I was on Capitol Hill just the other week talking to members of Congress about violent crime in America and trying to get justice for my brother and other victims of violent crime,” he said.

The restaurant owner, however, claims Caldwell’s conversation interrupted their safe space.

Alas I agree with you Eagles.

The system is now so totally corrupted that nothing but burning the system until it’s sterilised and de-politicised just won’t ‘cut-it’!

Same with the new NZ PM, ‘Chippie’ Hipkins. He’s supposed to be a moderate but it’s just a canard as he has a recent history as an authoritarian and enforced. Especially during lockdowns and in helping to destroy the education system by sucking up to the Marxist education Unions. Even the NZ Police are so ridiculously under strength because of his tenure as Police Minister under ‘Cindi’ Ardern that crime is spiking. NZ Police are just 1/3 the numbers per capita that they are in Australia!

The economy will break this Labour government in October no matter who is the Labour PM! That’s not to say that the incoming National government is not infected with liberals from the leader of the opposition on down!
    SPIT

The only hope to keep an incoming National administration ‘honest’ is for the ACT party and even maybe NZ First party to join National in a coalition that opposes the grouping of Labour the Greens and the Maori parties

Bear with me here. This is Meghan and Harry again. It’s the most fascinating exhibition of pathologic narcissism you will ever witness. And I use the term ‘pathologic’ intentionally, as narcissism runs as a spectrum. (And yes, she will kill her children if she feels it necessary to be THE VICTIM, see Susan Smith). Wherever a person falls on the spectrum, rage is always a component of the disorder. See Ted Bundy.

EXCLUSIVE: ‘Meghan thinks he’s up there with President Obama!’ Duchess tells friends Prince Harry is a ‘shoo-in’ for a Grammy nod thanks to his ‘soothing voice’ and rendition of Elton John’s Your Song on the audiobook of Spare

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11666953/Meghan-thinks-Prince-Harry-shoo-Grammy-audiobook-Spare.html#comments

The problem is, as many have noted, Harry wrote that’s the song Elton John performed at Diana’s service. It wasn’t. Elton sang Candle in the Wind.

The monarchy has a serious problem on its hands. They’ve got the goods on Meghan. She wasn’t just any yacht girl, she hung out with one of Epstein’s girlfriends, how do you think she knew Andrew’s daughter Eugenie?. But if they expose that, they utterly destroy Harry and probably their credibility with the people of the UK. They KNEW and they still let her in the door and used $30 million of taxpayer money for the wedding? OH HELL NO!

    Germany would like nothing better.

Not needed. He had Andrew. Andrew is NOT a great guy, but the Virginia Guiffre accusations are pure bullshit. She was Ghislane Maxwell’s wing girl, a procurer in training. She went after deep pockets and Her Majesty paid her off make her go away. By that time the monarchy was totally gun shy.

The Duck Brigade Behind a Farmer’s Plentiful Rice Harvest

EVERY SUMMER, A PACK OF ducks roams a six-acre rice farm in Vergennes, Vermont. They wade through rice paddies, nibble at undergrowth, and waddle across fields. They’re not just part of the idyllic landscape; they’re working, performing the essential tasks of fertilization and weed control.

The ducks are part of a Japanese agricultural technique known as aigamo, and their Vermont home resembles flooded rice paddies found in eastern Asia, particularly those of Japan’s Miyagi prefecture. It may seem random, or out of place to find this scene 6,000 miles away in the Northeast United States, but to Erik Andrus, owner of Boundbrook Farm, the ducks are the long-awaited solution to his pivot to rice farming.

Andrus, a Vermont native, lived in Sendai City for a year in 2000 when he first witnessed how rice was grown in moderate and cold climates, such as Hokkaido—the coldest region in Japan and where the cool, wet climate likened that in Vergennes. After purchasing Boundbrook with his wife in 2005 and producing everything from wheat to vegetables to grass-fed beef and pastured poultry, he found himself returning to Japanese rice. In 2010, he came across researchers Takeshi and Linda Akaogi, who were also experimenting with growing Japanese rice varieties in Vermont. This reinspired his connection to Japanese farming techniques and set in motion his switch from wheat to rice farming.

    I love this stuff

    Non profit my butt

As California goes, so goes the nation, or so they say. If that rings true, the nation is set for a reversal of some of its strictest renewable energy plans, after the Huntington Beach City Council voted to dump its plan for 100% renewable energy.

Huntington Beach, California, is changing the plan it had in place with the Orange County Power Authority (OCPA)—a nonprofit offering clean energy. But its recent history in a rather unfavorable media limelight has given the city council pause.

And Huntington Beach wasn’t the first municipality to pull out—Orange County bailed on the green power authority, citing transparency concerns and a series of ugly audits, and allegations that the authority failed to inform the public that their electricity bills were increasing. Orange County was set to begin receiving green power from the authority by the end of this year. The cost of having the county pull out is estimated to be around $65 million.

well. I dunno. Because Hubby was a tank guy when he was in the Army, and because he’s SO romantic…he took me to Aberdeen MD when we were dating. That’s a tank museum (who knew?).

There was a WW II Russian tank there. The gear shift – if you can call it that, I mean, it was FORWARD or REVERSE, that’s it, was this big lever on the OUTSIDE. You changed gears by hitting it with a hammer.

A lot of tanks were outside on cement platforms with brass plaques telling you what you were looking at.

One cement platform was naked – no tank. The brass plaque said something like “This is a ghost tank, don’t tell anybody”.

    @ eaglesoars:

The netting is just meant to break up the outline of the tank.

When I first joined the Army, I was in field artillery at Fort Ord, CA. We used to drive all the way down to Fort Irwin if we wanted to do any major live fire. That’s near Barstow. Middle of the desert.

We were supposed to deploy to Korea in wartime, so all our stuff was woodland camouflage, including our camo nets. I remember pointing out how stupid these big-ass green and brown nets looked in the desert. One of the officers assured me that a pilot flying overhead wouldn’t be able to see what was under it.

True…but he can see that it’s a big-ass green net hiding something. Might as well drop a bomb or two on it…

Just passed three on-line continuing education “exams” to renew my artichoke license for another two years. First two were about California Building Code accessibility – mostly about fixing typos and conflicts between the 2010 ADA. I learned that the code no longer has requirements for parking stalls or guardrails. I guess the terms confused people because now they’re called “vehicle stalls” and “guards.”

Then there was the insufferable NetZero lecture. 45 sections of condescending bullshit propaganda and stuff like this glurge:
“A paradigm shift from piecemeal systems to holistic streamlined systems with global metrics is the need of the hour.”

I tolerated about ten sections of that crap before I said fukket and scrolled to the exam, made logical guesses… and got 53%. Then I figured out a hack, took it again and passed with 98%.

    Armor: Tanks For Ukraine

American leaders are stalemated over sending M1 tanks t0 Ukraine. Most politicians and Americans in general prefer sending Ukraine the M1s so the Russians will be pushed out of Ukraine sooner rather than later. Senior military officials insist that the Ukrainians won’t learn to use the M1s quickly enough to make a difference. The Ukrainians disagree and point to many recent examples of their quickly adapting to new weapons systems in terms of operators and maintainers. The American opposition is coming mostly from the same experts who initially predicted that the larger and better equipped Russian force would soon defeat the Ukrainians. The United States has thousands of M1 tanks in reserve. These are not the latest models but were seen as adequate replacements for M1 tanks lost in some future conflict. That conflict is going on now in Ukrainian except that, because Ukraine is not a NATO member, they are willing to do all the fighting if NATO continues sending all the weapons and munitions they need. The Americans have already stalled on sending some weapons (like longer range missiles and any tanks at all) for fear of angering the Russians and triggering an expanded war. That has not happened and the Russians have taken unprecedented losses. Senior American military officials appear to accept reality because it is so radically different from what they predicted.

    these people are morons

California lawmakers appear intent on making the Eagles song Hotel California a reality … at least when it comes to taxes for those who try to flee the state. At the Hotel California, “you can check-out any time you like, but you can never leave!” With soaring costs and a massive $24 billion deficit, the state is also facing an exodus of people leaving the state. The solution? Convert the state into a tax Venus flytrap: not only impose a wealth tax on those caught in the state but tax those who try to leave.

The new bill introduced by Democratic Assemblyman Alex Lee would impose an extra annual 1.5% tax on those with a “worldwide net worth” above $1 billion, starting as early as January 2024.

The law has a cynical bait-and-switch provision. The billionaire tax is just meant for the initial packaging and passage. It can therefore be sold as a “billionaire’s tax.” However, in two years, the threshold drops to a worldwide net worth exceeding $50 million. While billionaires would stay at 1.5%, those in the lower tax bracket would be hit by a 1% added rate on worldwide assets.

They’re sending 30. I think the combined number of European tanks being sent is 88 (pun not intended). 14 from Poland, 8 from Spain (4 are not operable I heard).

Most of them will never reach the field.

Why on earth was this such a secret? THIS is why Pope Ben resigned?

The letter, which Benedict sent to Seewald a few weeks before his death on 28 October 2022, literally states that the “central motive” for his resignation “was the insomnia that had accompanied me continuously since World Youth Day in Cologne”.

    CNN

India’s Adani Group has denounced allegations of fraud made by Hindenburg Research as “baseless” and a “malicious combination of selective misinformation,” and is considering legal action against the US-based short seller.

Hindenburg Research published an investigation on billionaire Gautam Adani’s sprawling conglomerate on Tuesday, accusing it of “brazen stock manipulation and accounting fraud scheme over the course of decades.”

Hindenburg said it has taken a short position in companies in the Adani Group “through U.S.-traded bonds and non-Indian-traded derivative instruments.” Short sellers aim to make money by betting that the stock price of the companies they target will fall.

Adani’s business empire contains seven listed companies — in sectors ranging from ports to power stations — and shares in most of them fell by between 3% and more than 8% on Wednesday.

    @ darkwords:

“Lee Marvin enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on August 12, 1942. Before finishing School of Infantry, he was an quartermaster. Lee served in the 4th Marine Division as a scout sniper in the Pacific Theater during World War II,[6] including assaults on Eniwetok and Saipan-Tinian.[7] While serving as a member of “I” Company, 3rd Battalion, 24th Marines, 4th Marine Division, Lee participated in 21 Japanese islands landings and was wounded in action on June 18, 1944, during the assault on Mount Tapochau in the Battle of Saipan, during which most of his company were casualties.[8] He was hit by machine gun fire, which severed his sciatic nerve,[9] and then was hit again in the foot by a sniper.[10] After over a year of medical treatment in naval hospitals, Marvin was given a medical discharge with the rank of private first class. He previously held the rank of corporal, but had been demoted for troublemaking.
Marvin’s decorations include the Purple Heart Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon”

Also, he was a first cousin, four times removed, of Robert E Lee. In fact, he was named “Lee” after his famous relative.

Yeah, I know, I know; “Hey STICKS, who the fudge asked ya ?”
