3/8″ Male or Female? Open

Today, I swapped out the large NG gas space heater in the bar with a new IR version. HOLY CRAP!!! too many BTU’s on high setting, i can make stainless steel! this hardware is needed in the bar because of the topography and design of the house. At the front door, the roof is 2 stories up, at the back, 4 stories. the back half of the ‘basement'(bar) is above ground and opens to a large set of decks, all this points west into the Ohio river valley. The next highest point is somewhere around Lobo. The bar (so called basement) area has lots of glass for the view. We also get relentless wind (COLD from the NW and NNW). the highest point gets the most wind. that space just gets cold and then the rest of the house is ‘chilly’ if the space heater in the bar isnt regulating.

so, i unhooked the old heater, cleaned all the fittings for the gas line, took the trap and valve down to the local plumbing joint and explained what i needed. you see, the back of the box for the new heater says this, and i quote: “Requires 3/8″ female receptacle” that seemed odd as a junction for a gas appliance because usually a male end on the incoming gas line is used on flex pipe to screw into the female end of a space heater, or a stove… i even showed the old guy at the counter the pic of the back of the box. you see, i didnt want to open the box until i knew that all the gas fittings were fitted safely, and i didnt want to lose any parts. if the gas fittings weren’t leak-proofed, i would shut off the gas, call my neighbor / contactor and i’ll cook bbq for him and his family whilst he fixes my fuck-ups. however, i was air-tight with no leaks all the way out to the last shutoff valve. i can do some basic stuff, but i get very detail-oriented on gas lines.

so, easy, right? hook up the line to the heater. time to open the box that contains the blast furnace from J&L’s Aliquippa works….well, whaddya know. there is a 3/8″ female gas line receptacle to screw the last MALE fitting of the gas line into. Ummmhmmm….box sez requires female end for the gas line, but, the hardware is clearly female, requiring a male end. so, i took the last bit of flex hose back to the old guy behind the counter and told him that, indeed, there is a female fitting for gas line attachment. the outer box was a liar. he nodded the ‘old guy plumber nod’, and went and got the proper male fitting for the end of the flex line. he then said, “this must be one of those new god-damned transvestite heaters…” (in perfect pittsburghese).

i damned near passed out laughing. the two contractors in the joint were apoplectic. his delivery was so dead-pan perfect. i think, tho, the chinese manufacturer of this heater did this typo on purpose to make fun of us, and so they should.

    Air Chief Marshall Keith Park

A story about a kid born in Thames a gold mining town on the coast in Thames NZ just down the road from where my beach house is on the Firth of Thames estuary. Park started up on ANZAC Cove Turkey and ended up designing the whole defence of the SE area of the UK and commanding the RAF Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsHQuhLg1KE

Air Vice Marshal Keith Park flew his own Hurricane fighter registration number … OK 1 ….. which now sits on a plinth outside Thames NZ airfield. There is a full size bronze of Keith Park in downtown Thames township . standing at ground level in the street in Pollard Street Thames. What is not mentioned in this bio is that Keith Park learned to fly as a teenager at Thames airstrip in around 1911 before going off to war at Gallipoli with the ANZACS as an enlisted gunner.

Ending up as a British RAF Air Chief Marshal is not bad for a Thames Kiwi kid!

I drive past Keith Park’s Hurricane fighter sitting at Thames strip where it all started and bump into Keith’s bronze standing in Polland Street Thames when shopping!

    🙂

There is Sir Keith Park’s Hurricane fighter OK 1 on the video at about the 8 minute mark. That’s now sitting up proudly at Thames airfield just down the road.

A couple of observations, well three.

First, the video of Marmite commercials shows how the British regard humour. We laugh at ourselves, and as a company the makers of Marmite laughed at themselves. It is true you either like Marmite or hate it. No changing that for anyone.

It is not like doing a commercial where you are trying to attract, say, beer drinkers to your brand and take them from competitors. There is nothing competing against Marmite!!!!!

Well actually there is, Bovril, which is stupidly expensive in the USA.

But the commercials hit home. After watching that video I am craving Marmite. It is awesome on toast and makes a very nice hot drink. Oh spread VERY thinly on buttered toast, or you will be puking for days.

Secondly although Britain is now a piss poor third world country it is nice to see the Commonwealth still means something. A shared heritage.

Third, I have a blue check mark so now I am a superior person. Block me you haters!!!!!

What a debacle: The FAA has now grounded SpaceX’s Starship program “pending results of a ‘mishap investigation.'”

He didn’t need Fox. The last I saw his contract there was something like cheap, which is chump change to a guy with a reliable audience in the millions every night.
Tucker Carlson is now going to go sign a Joe Rogan size contract on a streaming service. He will make the most money of any news broadcaster in history and probdbly do so by an insane margin.
Meanwhile Don Lemon is a relative non entity. He won’t bring much of an audience with him wherever he goes.
One of these two will get a pay cut. The other is going to make orders of magnitude more money, and has the investment potential to boost any media corporation he signs with into a very competitive sphere.
And I don’t even watch Fox News at all, nor do I care about Tucker Carlson. But if you are too blinded by goofy partisan point scoring to grasp the business implications of this, it’s a bad look, but it ain’t my problem.

Larry always gets it. One of my favorite novelists and just an absolute good guy.

Be aware Eagles that you start off S-L-O-W-L-Y with just a scraping of Marmite on a piece of well buttered toast. If you go whole hog right from the off then it’ll grab you by the throat and throttle you. It’s also quite salty and as you said has that Japanese ‘umami’ taste. Do NOT lather it on at first or your taste buds will die and you’ll never finish the jar.

Actually with Marmite and of course Bovril (which is more of a hot drink rather than a spread) there is the Aussie knock-off …. Vegemite.

Not quite the same. A bit thicker and not quite as strong as Marmite. Try Vegemite to break your taste buds in gently!

Not having a car in a way is a disadvantage but also a bonus. No payments, insurance or taxes.

I do not have a job, or any friends to go visit so would only use a car for shopping.

As we all know anything can be bought and delivered to the door online, for a small added per4centage.

However, there is usually a minimum order of about $35 or so.

Today I needed a loaf of bread, none left in freezer and the two stores I can walk to are Indian/Hispanic and all they have is them tortustilly things.

So I ordered bread from 7 eleven using Uber Eats, but minimum order applies.

I am now the proud owner of a $2.75 loaf of bread, two bottles of cabernet sauvignon ( cheap ) and a two six packs of 16oz cans of Miller High Life to bulk up the order.

    *Burp*

And for the life of me I now can’t remember what I needed a loaf of plain boring sliced bread for!

Didn’t take long to find a decent substitute for Tucker at the 8 pm slot. Eric Bolling on Newsmax. I remember when he left Fox under a cloud after claims of sexual misconduct (which I never believed – his wife let him live). We watched tonite and liked it.

FWIW – various reporting is that the Fox producer who conveyed to Tucker that he couldn’t air any report on the 60 Minutes tongue bath of Ray Epps is Jennifer Rauchet. (Which was the provocation that caused Tucker to quit.)

Jennifer is Pete Hegseth’s wife. His third, to be exact.

Fox Has a Secret ‘Oppo File’ to Keep Tucker Carlson in Check, Sources Say

Eight sources tell Rolling Stone that the network’s top brass has been stockpiling information on the departing primetime host

The file includes internal complaints regarding workplace conduct, disparaging comments about management and colleagues, and allegations that the now-former primetime host created a toxic work environment, three of the sources say. (Carlson is currently facing a lawsuit from a former senior booking producer, Abby Grossberg, alleging a toxic and misogynist workplace environment. The lawsuit details repeated instances of misogynist behavior at the network, including frequent lewd and sexual discussions of female guests and public figures. Grossberg, “continued to endure a work environment that subjugates women based on vile sexist stereotypes, typecasts religious minorities and belittles their traditions, and demonstrates little to no regard for those suffering from mental illness.”

    https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/fox-news-tucker-carlson-secret-dossier-oppo-file-1234723855/

The problem with this story is that Grossberg worked on Tucker’s team for 2 weeks and never met Tucker. She supposedly has 90 hours of recordings. She was a more obvious plant than Ray Epps and she’s a shill. She moved to Tucker’s team after working on Maria Bartiromo’s staff.

Not surprisingly, the Daily Mail has the most comprehensive coverage

‘He made my life a living hell’: Fox producer who filed lawsuit against Tucker Carlson before he was fired says she celebrated his dismissal because he and his producer were ‘responsible for breaking me’

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12013389/Fox-producer-filed-lawsuit-month-Tucker-Carlson-fired-says-celebrated.html

The comments are hilarious. NO ONE believes her.

Trans teen died from vaginoplasty complications during landmark Dutch study used to justify child sex changes

A 2016 medical article documenting the tragic death of one of the participants in the linchpin Dutch study upon which the entire child sex change experiment is based indicates that puberty suppression was to blame for the young person’s death.

The case is that of an 18-year-old trans-identified male whose puberty was blocked by the Dutch researchers at a very early stage, meaning there wasn’t enough penile tissue for surgeons to use to create a “neo-vagina.” Therefore, a more risky procedure using a section of the patient’s bowel was necessary, which resulted in fatal necrotizing fasciitis.

    https://thepostmillennial.com/trans-teen-died-from-vaginoplasty-complications-during-landmark-dutch-study-used-to-justify-child-sex-changes

Every one of the medical professionals who participate in this horror should be treated as Mengele would have been treated had he not been protected. Put to death by hanging.

After they have undergone the same mutilation they inflicted.

Vital piece of information for anyone here thinking of becoming an Uber Eats delivery person.

In a two story apartment complex the odd numbers are on the ground ( first floor in USA speak ) and the even numbered apartments on the upper floor.

Except for one apartment block in College Station TX where it is reversed.

Ex UPS Christmas helpers know this fact.

LOL yes an Uber Eats driver was outside trying to deliver and I was waving
from the balcony as he was walking down the street just looking at the bottom floor numbers and wondering why there was an x09 an x11 and an x13 but x12 was missing!!!!!!

I have never voted here or robbed a bank. If I did then I would get a longer sentence for voting than a bank robbery. In my opinion rightly so.

This thing you do where you have the option of voting all republicans or all democrats is bollocks.

That is how the crazy people get voted into positions lower down on the ballot.

I understand why it is an option, last time I looked at an Houston area ballot it was 35 fucking pages long!

What do yinz think of Kristi Noem? I know she got leveled because of some trans legislation she signed because she was advised she would be taken to court and lose and her rationale is that she could not in good conscience spend taxpayer money for that.

And to open your eyes a little more – Meghan Markel has hired the William Morris Entertainment firm to rep her. So who gives a monkey’s butt?

Well, it’s ‘owned’ by Ari Emanuel. Who?

Brother to Rahm Emanuel, former mayor of Chicago. “Never let a crisis go to waste.”

Brother to Ezekiel Emanuel, physician, some muckety-muck in the Obama admin who said people should not live beyond 75 yrs.

Does anybody believe this? I don’t.

Title 42 will end on May 11 — the same time that the government lifts the public health emergency. The Biden administration has already begun to put into place several policies created by the Trump administration, including the “Remain in Mexico” policy and the rule that any illegal alien who crosses the border after passing through a third country without applying for asylum will be immediately deported and will be unable to enter the U.S. for five years.

    https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/rick-moran/2023/04/27/biden-administration-is-desperately-seeking-ways-to-manage-illegal-alien-arrivals-when-title-42-expires-n1690901

Unfortunately, that’s not always true. Every apartment seems to be laid out differently.

TV critic Possum here with a review of the latest episode of Law and Order. S22 E19 Private Lives

“”The team investigates the murder of a family physician whose wife suspects she was the target.””

    WTF was that??????

The episode focused on the current issue of giving “gender affirming treatment ” to a 13 year old born male child who wanted to be a girl.

Death ensues, murder is committed, to protect the confused child manslaughter is agreed to.

Sorry if that is a spoiler but the whole episode is fucked up. The writers wrote an episode on a current and controversial topic and ended up sitting on top of a barb wire fence with a leg over each side.

Probably attempted to appeal to an audience on both sides but failed badly in my opinion. Why even bother?

Shows like Law and order the original, SVU and Organized Crime are after all just entertainment.

OK now going to watch Law and Order Organized Crime. Lately main highlight of that has been laughing at how Ainsley Seiger A.K.A Jet never smiles in the show.

Best fried chicken I ever had was and do still make consists of only two ingredients.

Get a 16 piece box of chicken, no sides, no soda just chicken and get it delivered. Do not go to the store if you are white as you going to get little pieces. Pay $5 extra for delivery. Racism is real….

I did a post and test of this years ago. The delivery box was bigger, in fact it was in two boxes all three times. The in store buy was in one box twice and weighed half of the delivery chicken weight both times.

Anyway get your fried chicken. Put it in the fridge and when you want chicken then turn on oven to 450F and get chicken out of fridge, put in a zip lock and seal it and microwave for a minute or so.

Open ziplock bag. Chicken is warm but breading got soggy and nasty!!! Oh what to do?

Spray or brush the nasty, soggy but warm chicken parts with coconut oil then place on a baking sheet in the 450F oven for about 5-8 minutes.

Best tasty, crispy chicken you ever tasted!!!!!

Fauci retcons the pandemic in laughable NYT interview

The doctor, once again, proved himself a master of illusion and obfuscation

    April 26, 2023 | 4:09 pm
    fauci
    Dr. Anthony Fauci (Getty)
    Written By:

    Cockburn

The New York Times published an extensive interview with Anthony Fauci on Tuesday, and the doc still shows little remorse. To his credit, Times reporter David Wallace-Wells did not let Fauci off easily — there was no Joe Biden treatment in this one.
Fauci, as usual, showed himself a master of illusion. Take his assertion that “only 68 percent of the country is vaccinated. If you rank us among both developed and developing countries, we do really poorly.” Really? Well that depends on what you mean by “vaccinated”. If that means you got the first shot — the only one that actually provided transmission protection — then the US actually did quite well, with 80 percent receiving at least one dose. Germany, Luxembourg and Austria are at 78 percent, and progressives’ favorite Scandinavian country, Sweden, sits at 76 percent. Even if you assume he meant “fully vaccinated” with the latest jab, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the Baltic states are all pretty darn close to the US’s 68 percent.
He plays the same game with the lab leak theory. Asked about the “lab leak versus natural origin” debate, Fauci said, “until you have a definitive proof of one or the other, it is essential to have an open mind. And I have been this way from the very beginning, David, notwithstanding the criticisms to the contrary.” Is that so? Cockburn certainly does not remember that, and neither, apparently, does Doctor Robert Redfield, the CDC director at the time, who claims that Fauci slammed the door shut on the lab leak hypothesis pretty early on.
And that’s not all! Fauci, in response to an inquiry about gain of function funding, claimed:
[A]ll of the intelligence groups agree that this was not an engineered virus. And if it’s not an engineered virus, what actually leaked from the lab? If it wasn’t an engineered virus, somebody went out into the field, got infected, came back to the lab and then spread it out to other people. That ain’t a lab leak, strictly speaking. That’s a natural occurrence.
Let’s unpack that marvelous trickery. There is some limited truth that intelligence agencies agree that the virus was not “genetically engineered,” as the DNI reported in 2021 that “most agencies also assess with low confidence that SARS-CoV-2 probably was not genetically engineered”. The first wrinkle, obviously, is that this assessment is from “most agencies” and is “low confidence.” The second wrinkle is that “two agencies believe there was not sufficient evidence to make an assessment either way.” Not exactly a resounding renunciation of an engineered virus. It is not clear to Cockburn how the agencies have shifted their opinions, if at all, on the topic since 2021, though we may know soon once the intelligence is declassified.
Further, his definition of a lab leak is comically oversimplified. For Fauci, the way it could be a “lab leak” is if the scientist caught the virus from some natural source and then infected his or her colleagues. Admittedly, Fauci gets points for creativity: he effectively coopts the lab leak theory to confirm his own belief that that virus spread from a natural origin point.
Now on to the pandemic response. Fauci complained that “I happened to be perceived as the personification of the recommendations [lockdowns],” that he only “gave a public-health recommendation that echoed the CDC’s recommendation, and people made a decision based on that.” If he did not want to be the “personification” of pandemic policy, then maybe he should not have played into the panegyrics — like going on the cover of InStyle magazine. And anyway, Fauci can’t claim to have been a mere bystander — he knew very well that his and the CDC’s recommendations were taken and used to enact a very particular set of policies.
Fauci would like to think that public health institutions can look “at it from a purely public-health standpoint. It was for other people to make broader assessments — people whose positions include but aren’t exclusively about public health.” The problem here is that public health institutions are, by their very nature, inseparable from the “broader assessments.” Public health must deal with the public — shocking, but it’s true — and that means there is an interface with policy. That is what makes public health a messy, difficult thing to wrangle with, because you cannot simply make the calculations and run; you have to make the calculations and then mold them into recommendations that are workable for the society to which they will be applied. That did not happen, not because of maliciousness, but because of human error. That is all people want Fauci to admit — actually admit, not massaging an admission with obfuscation and deflection.
By far the most irritating for Cockburn, though, is the moralizing and grumbling about the public’s skepticism of the public health establishment and its recommendations. At the beginning of the condensed interview, Fauci mentions the “smoldering anti-science feeling, a divisiveness that’s palpable politically in this country.” The irony is that Fauci is at the epicenter of the crisis that caused that very “smoldering anti-science feeling.”
Take the mask debacle. At the beginning, in March 2020, Fauci argued that masking was unnecessary, that “there’s no reason to be walking around with a mask.” The argument — which, it turns out, was correct — was that masks were not effective enough to wear. Underlying that contention, though, was what those in government felt was a noble lie: the masks were not recommended not because they did not work, but because they wanted to make sure healthcare workers had access to them, primarily the N95. Then, all of a sudden, the guidance did a 180 and masks were not only protective, but mandated. Even when evidence began to pour in that cloth and surgical masks were not effective enough to warrant mandating them, nothing changed. This is why there is a crisis of trust, a “smoldering anti-science feeling”; it is not so much anti-science as it is skepticism of government claims to science.
And then there was the lockdown policy. The doctor said in the interview that “somehow or other, the general public didn’t get that feeling that the vulnerable are really, really heavily weighted toward the elderly. Like 85 percent of the hospitalizations are there.” Why was that the case? It happened because the public health establishment failed to communicate. Fauci would likely disagree: “Did we say that the elderly were much more vulnerable? Yes. Did we say it over and over and over again? Yes, yes, yes.” Fair enough, but the public health institutions paired those warnings with policy recommendations that said the contrary. Why was he suggesting that students still be masked mid-2021? Why were the teachers’ unions so involved in crafting school reopening processes? Where was Fauci when a voice of reason was needed in the school reopening process? He can point to a few meek comments, but where was the pandemic warrior he likes to portray himself as? It was this kind of behavior that helped produce an “anti-science feeling” in the country; it was a lack of honesty, a lack of consistency and the appearance of foul play.
Does Fauci deserve all the blame? Of course not — but nor does he get to exonerate himself either.
Apparently, though, he does not feel he has anything worth exonerating himself of. When Wallace-Wells asked Fauci if the idea that gain-of-function research may (however unlikely and improbable it may be) have had some relation to Covid-19’s origins, weighed on him, the doctor was both defensive and dismissive. “Now you’re saying things that are a little bit troublesome to me. That I need to go to bed tonight worrying that NIH-funded research was responsible for pandemic origins.”
“Well, I sleep fine, I sleep fine”, he added, before defending the research as “not conceived by me as I was having my omelet in the morning. It is a grant that was put before peer review of independent scientists whose main role is to try to get data to protect the health and safety of the American public and the world.” Whatever the facts are in this case, the response is a microcosm of the broader problem: Fauci cannot seem to accept any culpability, it is always someone else’s fault — the politicians, the Republicans who “don’t like to be told what to do,” or the “independent scientists” — and rarely his own.
Cockburn, more than anything else, would just like to see Fauci show — even if it’s feigned — some understanding of the concerns his critics bring to the table, some recognition of his own faults. That would require introspection, though, and despite all of his skills, that one is conspicuously lacking.

    @ Aussie Infidel:

There is no “crisis of trust”. They lied, people figured it out. There is no crisis. Fauci could perform some sort of auto-de-fe, people would yawn and swap baseball stats stories.

If a time of reckoning comes – and I doubt it will – but if it does, vengeance will be outside the public arena. Somebody will find his body buried up to his head, which will have been cleaned to the bone by ants, surrounded by a circle of honey. Nearby will be the disarticulated skeleton of one of the beagles whose vocal chords he had cut and eaten alive by insects. Both skeletons will end up inside a glass case in a honky-tonk bar in Nevada with a big neon sign outside that flashes PROOF DARWIN WAS WRONG $3 COVER CHARGE LADIES NITE FRIDAY

Because I’m sweet and kind and wouldn’t waste a bullet

If you assume that when dealing with Fauci that you are dealing with a psychopath who has a hidden objective that he hides within a wall of lies, then you will be pretty right on the mark!

Fauci fits right into the Mangler mode!

Short rope + long drop! I agree that he doesn’t warrant a bullet.

I volunteer womankind deal to him. Never get captured by the women!

You may find this interesting. Jacob Rees Mogg formally a deputy PM of the UK. Calls truth where he sees it and if you disagree then he wishes you the best of luck and steps away.
Interesting how to deal with secular society when authoritarian raises its ugly head.

    Enjoy a nuanced commentary

He’s been on my radar for a few years now. An archetype of the upper class British gentleman with a few well-nourished quirks and deeply ironic humor.

    But don’t piss him off.

She is pulling a Dana Scully from X Files. Myth is Scully never smiles, but LOL Google it. A few smiles escape.

Also the WORST current TV show is The ARK. It is so bad it is addictive.

I’m surprised they even tried to be on the fence. Had to stop watching all those series since almost every case was “conservative views kill, liberal views save”. They got really bad about 6 or 7 years ago where almost every episode was like that.

Ever see the documentary Caddy Shack? The priest kicks ass in the rain….me n my bro had our first competitive round in our once monthly tournament (April thru October). We had to get the round in today and it was raining. Usually, it’s very competitive and the winner wins by a stroke or two and wins the match play portion by 1 hole. There are many ties.

Not today. I’m really good in the rain.

He retired after 9. I was 3 up on stroke and 3 up on match thru 9. Shot 1 under par aggregate. Hit every fairway, all 9 greens in regulation. Not one mis hit. Came within 2 inches of my first hole in one…in the rain. I wanted to continue, but, hand me all the points? Yep, done.

    It was a master class.

Yep…over 5000 rounds of golf and never a hole in one. I’ve gone in and out 3 times, been within a few inches too many times. Yet from 150yards in I’ve holed out easily 20 times.
