Yinz know the drill.

We did better with the Rugby than with the college ball! 3/5, so, its back to $1300/$1000 (again at my quit point of 33% roi). We won with both underdogs in the RWC!

Week 8 college ball:

7 Penn State @ 3 Ohio State 12:00 PM: I’m a PITT guy, my bro is a PSU alum. When I started this post, PSU was a dog at 6 pts. I’ll take that, they cover. Nope. they don’t cover on the road.

17 Tennessee @ 11 Alabama 3:30 PM. The Vols have broke my heart more times than my beloved panthers. And again, I set myself up to be heartbroken. The Vols are 10 point dogs on the road and cover. Yes, I’m betting AGAINST coach Saban….again. I’ll lose, again.

14 Utah @ 18 USC 8:00 PM. The last year for the Pac-10 as we know it….Jeeze, USC got curb-stomped in front of the Touchdown Jesus last week. The Trojans are 8 point favorites at the Colosseum. Utah beat them twice last year…’SC is tough at home and have one of the best pre-game rituals.

and the cheerleaders….

Whew, OK….I’ll take USC to cover! Why a Trojan is dressed as a stylized high ranking Roman Centurion?…well, who cares.

RWC 2023 (on Peacock)

Tomorrow at 1500 eastern, it’s the All-Blacks V Las Pumas. Good on Argies to get this far! Well played, them. Ummm…now they have to play New Zealand. Well played lads. NZ is a 17 point fave, I ain’t touching this. NZ could field their second team and still win by a ton.

On Saturday at 1500 est, it’s England V South Africa. SA is the most physical team in the tourney. (NZ is the most diabolical, especially out of the set-piece from their own end). England is a 14 point fave. Yep, put me down for SA to cover.

I don’t know what the Kiwi contingent here wants to see, but, I’d hope for an England V NZ final. SA is too hard to play.

The missus’ teeth have been shifting back to pre-braces days, and it was causing a traffic jamb in her lower jaw. Yesterday she had four teeth pulled and replaced with three temporary ones. No food or warm beverages for 24 hours, no solid food for two weeks.

But we have a stash of codeine.

Has her bone structure been evaluated? I have an entire mouth full of implants. Auto accident, face planted into the windshield, bounced off the dashboard, blah blah blah [wear the fucking seatbelt next time]

I had cadaver bone put into my jaws. I know it sounds gross. Once that took hold, they drilled in the implants. And I mean DRILLED. Titanium posts.

It cost a fucking fortune. About 50K. But all these years later, my mouth is healthy (CW can tell you how important that is) and because I got to choose my new teeth, color, shape, etc., I have a MUCH prettier smile than the one I was born with [my natural teeth were too big for my mouth]

    just sayin’

The left is so arrogant they are now acting stupid. They are running ads against a primary candidate in my state, pretending to be concerned conservatives (this candidate is opposing the hand-picked candidate from Mitch and the get-along-gang). But, the ads are standard liberal class warfare BS. They can erase their liberal mindset to even believably pretend to be anything but radical leftists.

It is around here. It’s been proven over and over that class warfare crap doesn’t work in our state primaries except for the dem primary. Our republican voters tend to be more conservative than most places. Thus more savvy. If he loses it will be because he’s a poor candidate and not because of their moronic ads. (I’m wary of him because he’s an east coast import. But, so is his opponent.)

Well, that was not fun. Last nite I was working on my garden table in the garage, finished up, turned to come back in and….tripped over the chair. Face planted on the CEMENT floor. And I mean FACE PLANTED. The chair tipped over and I had a not-fun time getting myself up. My entire body was stunned. So now I’m up at 4 am because my left shoulder is screaming.

I need a massage. Also weight training. Sheese.

I was outside on the deck. The stars are fantastic and the Milky Way is out. So there’s that.

The SA vs England was a nail biter. Can the Springboks pull off a hat trick?

Buckeyes looked shabby, but not as shabby as Penn State 3rd down conversions. 1 of 16? Oof. Ryan Day looks like he is about to have a brain aneurysm at any moment when he is not screaming at his players. He has work to do if he does not want to lose 3 in a row to TTUN.

Vols were a heart breaker. Support any team playing vs Bama.

Looks like the Uniparty beat Jim Jordan. The knives are out already.

If you ask to many archaeologists what greatest archaeological mystery on earth is, 99% of them will answer: city of Nan Madol, Micronesia. Mysteries surrounding this city are so great and incomprehensible that virtually no one wants to talk about them. If you go to Wikipedia, you will read that the city of Nan Madol was built around 1200 AD by Saudeleur. But this data only refers to only ‘known population’ that has been traced on island, using some available dating systems. But in reality, according to archaeologists themselves, history of Nan Madol must ‘necessarily’ have been quite different, although no one can precisely explain how. What makes this city so mysterious, or rather, ‘impossible´?

Some of mighty walls of Nan Madol were built from below sea level. It should be noted that columnar basalt blocks were used, at least in some cases weighing up to 50 tonnes. These are held together without adhesives, simply by their weight. They are arranged on top of each other in a criss-cross pattern, like Lego. Researchers have noticed that care with which these blocks are placed underwater is same as when they are placed out of water. Whole thing is extremely precise. How is it possible to build huge walls that start from below sea level, and then emerge from water ? Nan Madol is 1.5km long. It was a real “metropolis” for those times.

So why is it difficult to accept this theory, which is so logical as to seem “obvious”? If this were true, it would mean that Nan Madol was built before waters of planet Earth rose due to Thaw. We are talking about a period between 14,500 and 7000 years ago. This would make Nan Madol by far, and we repeat by far, oldest city in the world. It would also prove the existence of a civilisation that existed before Last Deglaciation.

Ruined city is one of today’s great archaeological enigmas and is sometimes called “Atlantis”, “eighth wonder of the world,” or “Venice of the Pacific”.

    @ eaglesoars:
Subject: Chris Trotter in the BDF on how the MSM caused Labour’s recent electoral defeat.

I might add that Trotter is an old style hard bitten socialist Labour Party media guru and NOT some later day bright eyes cub reporter from the ‘new MSM’. Things must be getting a wee bit tetchy down at Labour HQ for Trotter to write this!

    Illuminating to say the least.

The mainstream news media weren’t just complicit in Labour’s defeat: in many respects they were the cause of it. If the new National-ACT-NZ First Government wishes to avoid falling victim to the same collection of politically motivated editors and journalists, then it may need to grasp the nettle of stricter regulation of the Fourth Estate. This does not mean censorship – no believer in liberal democratic values would countenance that. What it might mean, however, is the mandatory restoration of the editorial and journalistic obligation to be both fair and balanced. If editors and journalists refuse to allow both sides of a story to be told, then it may become necessary to create a truly independent statutory body to compel them.
Let us begin by examining that striking accusation: that Labour’s defeat was, at least partially, attributable to the mainstream media (MSM).
Following the formation of the Labour-NZ First coalition Government, and gathering momentum in the light of Labour’s extraordinary win in 2020, the MSM more and more came to resemble an adjunct to the ruling party. If Jacinda Ardern and her colleagues created the impression that their government was in the business of political transformation, then the MSM (with the obvious exception of NZME’s Mike Hosking) appeared to have adopted the role of transformer. On their pages and in their programming it was clear that the reasons for transforming New Zealand, and the means adopted for achieving that goal, would not be challenged in any meaningful way.
In part this was due to the extraordinary impact of Jacinda Ardern’s personality on younger journalists. She was perceived as one of them, carrying with her the promise that if she could rise above the dour and stodgy upholders of another generation’s status quo, then so could they. Ardern’s ‘Politics of Kindness’ would be matched by their own ‘Journalism of Kindness’. Racists, sexists, homophobes, Islamophobes, climate-change deniers – bad actors of all kinds – were given notice: you no longer have the right of reply. Henceforth, it would be the duty of journalists to provide their readers, listeners and viewers with ‘moral clarity’. When only one side is right, representing both sides can only be wrong. Ergo, falsehood must be de-platformed.
This radical departure from the traditions of journalism was given added impetus by the Christchurch mosque attacks. The horror and brutality of the attack, and its obscene ‘justification’ in the perpetrator’s ‘manifesto’, gave rise to a series of actions that sanctioned extreme censorship in the name of human decency. While few contested the Chief Censor’s designation of Brenton Tarrant’s video and manifesto as ‘objectionable’, the state’s actions nevertheless appeared to sanction crushing intervention against even the words of ‘bad people’ – an impression strengthened by Ardern’s refusal to speak the terrorist’s name. As if refusing to either name, or discuss, Tarrant’s evil would make it go away.
The recommendations of the inevitable Royal Commission of Inquiry into the mosque shootings only made matters worse. In what amounted to a judicially sanctioned attenuation of the right to free expression, legislative action against the alleged ‘harm’ of ‘hate speech’ was recommended – and accepted – by Ardern’s Government. The Royal Commission’s findings were an echo of the massive outpouring of public solidarity for the terrorist’s Muslim victims. In the days that followed the massacre, when gatherings of thousands reaffirmed Ardern’s memorable phrase “they are us”, the Politics of Kindness took on corporeal form – while the MSM blew the trumpets.
This is not what the MSM – or any journalistic enterprise – is supposed to do. At precisely those moments when everybody else is proclaiming a miracle, the journalist is duty-bound to demand proof. Scepticism of political utterances is the default setting of every newspaper and broadcasting network worthy of the name. Embarrassingly, New Zealand’s MSM opted to become the equivalent of Vatican press office – issuing press releases for ‘Pope’ Jacinda.
It is difficult to imagine a worse moment for the New Zealand MSM to be confronted with an existential challenge on the scale of the Covid-19 pandemic. An economically faltering MSM, already morally compromised by the self-imposed strictures of its Journalism of Kindness, now found itself more-or-less conscripted into justifying the deeply authoritarian state policies required to manage a full-scale national medical emergency. The idea that New Zealand now had a tame ‘state media’ began to grow in the minds of more and more New Zealanders.
Hardly surprising, really, once it became generally known that the state had offered the MSM the life-line of a $55 million “Public Interest Journalism Fund”. Less generally known, but offering incontrovertible confirmation of just how supine the MSM had become, were the terms and conditions which the MSM had to accept before the money could flow. Proprietors and editors had to sign up to a frankly revolutionary definition of the Treaty of Waitangi’s meaning and acquiesce to its logical political implications. That all the major media enterprises ended up signing on the dotted line was astounding.
Given that the ‘decolonising’ and ‘indigenising’ agenda imposed by the Sixth Labour Government played a crucial role in undermining its electoral support (the exigencies of Covid-19 having long since put paid to the Politics of Kindness!), the MSM’s unwavering support for that agenda – manifested by the near universal editorial refusal to allow any meaningful debate over its content – was in every way complicit with the alienation of Labour’s support.
Indeed, the MSM’s abject failure to fulfil its democratic duty as both the creator and presenter of informed – and diverse – public opinion was compounded by its strident promotion of all things pertaining to the decolonisation and indigenisation of New Zealand – sorry, Aotearoan – society. In this regard, when even the delivery of the weather forecast became an opportunity for indoctrination, the case that the conduct of the MSM was one of the principal causes of Labour’s catastrophic collapse becomes incontrovertible.
Back in the late 1980s, as Rogernomics was laying waste to the social-democratic institutions and impulses of the ‘old’ New Zealand, some aggrieved worker had spray-painted on the wall of the (now demolished) Christchurch Trades Hall: “You were supposed to help”. New Zealanders, angry at the MSM’s failure to defend either democracy or the traditions of a free press, would have been entirely justified in spray-painting the same message on the wall of every major media outlet in the country.
Certainly, complaining to the MSM did no good at all as, in decision after decision, the bodies established to defend the core journalistic values of fairness, balance and accuracy ruled in favour of the purveyors of the new, state-adjacent, journalism. The catch-phrase of the incoming government should be “Away with them!” A new tribunal, untainted by the compromises and betrayals of the past six years, should be set up to make certain that New Zealand’s journalists adhere to the long-established principles of their profession.
    Our democracy demands no less.

Julie Chavez Rodriguez, President Biden’s campaign manager, announced his intentions in a letter to Raymond Buckley, chairman of the New Hampshire Democratic Party, in a letter dated Oct. 24.

President Biden’s decision to skip the 2024 primary ballot in the state will make him the first sitting president to do so since President Lyndon B. Johnson didn’t file for the state’s primary in 1968, although he later won via write-in.

I’m not a connoisseur of Japanese monster movies, being barely familiar with Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, Nick Adams and Toshiro Mifune. I had almost given up finding the unknown monster when I hit the motherlode.
That’s Guila from the movie The X From Outer Space and it’s awesome.

  63. buzzsawmonkey

The last few days, NPR has been babbling endlessly about “Hurricane Otis” (when it hasn’t been slagging Israel for retaliating against Hamas). There’s been endless coverage about how “unprecedented” the storm is, its unmatched power (worst in recorded Mexican history!); its immense destruction, etc., etc., etc.

And it occurs to me that all this “climate” gabble is really pre-emptive excuse-making by the government for not having done, and not doing going forward, the very functions it is the government’s job to do.

    Something to Keep in Mind:

All the people who want to “regulate the planetary climate” and demand the power and unlimited resources to do so are people who have proven themselves incapable of competently managing and running recently-built, closed, man-made systems. They cannot competently run power grids, or municipal water systems or trash pickup; they cannot competently maintain, let alone repair, the “roads and bridges” they are always prating about; they cannot competently run or maintain the public housing they increasingly want people to live in, or the public transportation systems that they want people to rely on.

More than that; they cannot competently direct disaster recovery/relief from floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts, wildfires, volcanic eruptions or earthquakes—let alone control or prevent such disasters.

Yet they want people to believe that they can, and should, be permitted to try and regulate the planetary climate, which is infinitely more subtle and varied and complex than any of the recently-built, closed, man-made systems they have already repeatedly proven incapable of managing.

A better reason is that scanning QR codes from unknown organizations has the risk of malware.

The Boiler Room Crew were a handful of ex-lizards who worked behind the scenes at Diary of Daedalus. They specialized in archiving, monitoring, statistical analysis and posting reports on CJ & The LGF. They were benevolent yet savage. They worked in a dark room accessed by a secret trap door hidden under the cat stuff behind the rec room couch.

    @ buzzsawmonkey:
The Blocked List (and ten years of LGF archives) was stolen from LGF circa 2011 by a BRC engineer operating out of Bolivia. The list has numbers and stats of over 15,800 banned lizards.

I recently came across this band called The Warning. Three sisters from Monterrey, Mexico: Daniela (“Dany,” 23) is the guitarist and lead singer. Paulina (“Pau,”21) is the drummer and does backing vocals (and sometimes lead). The bass player is Alejandra (“Ale,” 18). They’ve been playing together for 10 years, believe it or not. All three girls are classically trained pianists, as well. Basically, it’s Larkin Poe meets Metallica but from Mexico.

The first video is from a Tedx event recorded in 2017, when they were just 16, 14 and 12, and had just released their first album:

This is from last year, when they played to a packed house in Mexico City:

This video from the same show convinced me that Pau is either an alien or some sort of cyborg. She trades lead vocals with Dany, while simultaneously beating her drum kit like it owes her money. From what I’ve read, she practices singing while running on a treadmill in order to be able to do it:

Yesterday I put up a tweet alleging that Mark Meadows wore a wire in the White House during the last stretch.

I’ve spoke with some of my sources again, and now it seems that information was wrong and incorrect. In fact, two of them retracted their statements on the matter entirely.

I apologize for putting something out without it not being 100% accurate. That’s on me and I’ll do better next time. I also apologize to Congressman Meadows, and his staff for having to field questions on the issue.

There seems to be some dark forces behind the scenes trying to get Meadows, and to me that is very problematic, especially when it seems like it’s being sent through the grapevines by some of our own.

Germany’s APOLLO NEWS here reports that soccer club VfL Osnabrück is now “penalizing its employees with climate fines.”

“Based on an individual CO₂ footprint calculated by the club, deductions are made from their salaries as a penalty for climate-unfriendly behavior,” reports the German site.

As it’s probably a dream of many people to be employed by a professional sports team, the club will probably get away with it. Unhappy employees can be easily replaced.

But in the current environment of a severe skilled workers shortage, other companies may be extremely hesitant to enact such a draconian and personally intrusive policy. It also likely violates German labor law. In any case, VfL Osnabrück does show just how loony the climate craze is getting.

According to the APOLLO site: “The soccer club calculates the amount of salary that is deducted based on things like how far its employees travel to work or how much meat they consume.”

According to the VfL Osnabrück site: “Common good clause: VfL employees compensate for professional CO₂ emissions.”

    Just a reminder:

The “decolonization” rhetoric currently flying around is hilarious; Israel is the least “colonial” nation in the entire Middle East.

Egypt? Former British colony. Jordan? Ditto—established by the colonial British as a consolation prize after it screwed the Hashemites out of their Arabian kingdom to accommodate the “House of Saud” brigand clan. Lebanon? Syria? French colonies, post-WWI. Yemen? Aden? British colonies that were granted independence after Israel was established.

Israel was created by land purchases from Muslim landowners, and achieved its indepenence by fighting both their British colonial overlords and the Arabs that tried to crush it.

They can take their ‘nakba’ and shove it. If anybody sold them out it was their own people at the UN. Tell me why not ONE Arab/Muslim country will take them in. Because they are more useful as cannon fodder/human shields against the Jews. Egypt? Nope. Jordan. Nope. (and don’t get me started on Queen Rania, whose parents were Palestinian but grew up in Kuwait). Lebanon. Syria. Blah blah blah.

So now Israel takes the entire joke to its logical conclusion and wipes out Hamas. Oh, the wailing!

I don’t recall any such shrieking contortions when Papa Assad wiped out the Muslim Brotherhood in Hama. And then paved it over.

And I will say again. Dresden and Hamburg. I will stipulate that people there despised the Nazis. We firebombed them into charcoal anyway. Including the children.

Don’t start none, won’t be none.

They generally are. And the range of songs that they’ve covered over the last decade or so is amazing. One thing you won’t find on YouTube is any of their Eagles covers, though. Every time they do one, it gets taken down. Probably because it might lead people to wonder why they should pay $400 for a ticket to this year’s incarnation of their farewell tour, when these guys from Kentucky do their songs better than they do.

They’re not really my cup of tea musically anymore. I left my metal phase before they were born (literally, which is frightening). But the talent is incredible. Dany has an amazing voice, and is a decent guitarist. Ale has gone from a little kid who was barely able to hold a full-size bass to a certified rock star on stage. I don’t know what to say about Pau. She’s probably destined to be on the level of Peart, Moon or Bonham (hopefully without the premature death part). And she can sing while doing it, which is crazy. Sure, Don Henley and Phil Collins are drummers who sing lead, but they don’t usually do both at the same time. Henley plays the drums when one of the other guys are singing. And Collins had a full-time second drummer (Chester Thompson) for both Genesis and his solo tours.

    @ eaglesoars:

violence in the middle east is eternal, thus far, from what i can glean from the history books.

nothing will change that except complete destruction of everyone or someone. no one wants that except maybe for the weirdo iranian immam dudes.

when was there peace in the middle east last? after legio X frentesis maybe?

the muzz didnt learn after the past wars with israel. why should they learn now? it appears that there has to be a culling every few generations to set the death machine back to 0.

FAFO with the israelis and you might get sampsoned. wanna play with that? nope.

    @ coldwarrior:

I came close to choking Cody a couple weeks ago. When I was in Winter Park in June for Blues From the Top, I found out about a benefit show they had planned for October in Denver, with Kara Grainger headlining and Sadie Johnson opening. The tickets were only about $50, but when you add in $150 for a hotel room in downtown Denver and a 900 mile round trip drive, it starts to add up. But I really wanted to see them both, and it was for a good cause (the Blue Star Connection, which gets musical instruments to kids).

And then Cody decided to snap at not one but two different staff members when I took him to be boarded. He’s been asked not to return.

    So much for that trip…

I love it when some dumbass talks about how the Israelis just need to “compromise” with them. How, exactly, do you compromise with people whose starting demand is that your entire people must be killed? Do you split the difference and let them kill half of you?
