One of Hubby’s docs prescribed a new blood thinner med the doc wants him to take for 6 mos.

Stopped at Walgreens to pick up a 1 month supply. $840. Hubby said NOPE.
Called the Doc and said TRY AGAIN. Got yelled at by the nurse.

    NOT HAPPY

Three monthly prescription cost from the quack costs $30.00 and my old Air NZ Staff Welfare annual medical insurance for odds and sods refunds 100% of prescriptions. Pharmacy costs of the drugs paperwork is $5 until you reach some limit that nobody seems to know, kicks out, then it’s free. Drugs are free except for some weird stuff that is not on the free list like Trifecta is about to take for his Cystic Fibrosis when he reached six later this month. It would have cost $345,000 a year, but fortunately it has recently been added to the free list, so it’s free for him as well

    🙂

I just can’t anymore. My sister is telling me I have to get the spare bedroom done before the Rapture next year. She’s absolutely serious. When I said “Well, then what’s the point?” she said we’re still expected to live and she just made the final payment on her cruise for next year.

People I think are sane for the longest time, e.g. “Trump made his money by building Hotels and Golf Courses and Biden made his money by selling out our country to China and collecting 10% from his son and brother who bribed foreign countries.” then pop up with “Marjorie Taylor Greene is a Russian asset.”

If I bang my head against my keyboard anymore, I’m going to hurt myself

Something strange going on. Tucker interviewed some whack job who tried to make the case the Churchill was the bad guy who wanted to kill the Jews and Hitler was the good guy trying to save them with Lebensraum or something. Many people thought Tucker agreed with him. I didn’t see it so don’t have an opinion. However I have seen some people agreeing with him. I don’t know any of them, don’t know if they’re big deals or not.

Now I’m starting to see revisionist histories of Lincoln.

    And my nose twitches.

Re-writing the past is a big step in revolutionary movements, often accompanied by reputational destruction of the culture’s historic heroes.

    Be aware.

A Study Shows that Blue State Refugees Are Voting Heavily Republican in Tennessee. But note, he’s talking about refugees: “Before I discuss the specifics of the analysis, I believe it is necessary to once again discuss the difference between ‘colonizers’ and ‘refugees.’ The colonizers tend to be left-wing voters relocating to a red state because of their job. That is what makes Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s recruitment of tech companies so distasteful. Abbott has recruited wave after wave of tech workers from California, and they generally bring their left-wing voting habits with them. It is terribly short-sighted for Texas to import anti-carbon voters who will enthusiastically kill off Texas’ petroleum and cattle industries. Refugees, by contrast, tend to be conservatives fleeing blue states. They vote Republican in their new state, making it even redder. Even better, they bring with them an appreciation for just how destructive 21st Century Democrats are when they gain power.”

I’ve read that is a tactic they would like to use but how practical is it to do?

When I registered, I had to show proof of residency. Driver’s license in my case. That showed an address.

GETTING the drivers license required proof of age/residence. Utility bills.
    They’re on a one-month cycle.

Housing. Where do you find a one – or even 2 – month lease? Not here.

If you have an ordinary job/family life, leaving that for 30 days is almost impossible.

So it sounds good, but not practical

I spend about $10-$20 per week on lottery tickets. Never win much.

As an example a rare win on Mega Millions got me a $2 prize, cashed it in and got a Powerball ticket for tonight.

    Why do I do it?

Well the money would be nice, and to be honest life changing but the main reason I buy lottery tickets is that if I win big then I can send someone a $10 Amazon gift card and a big smile.

Hey, I am not cheap, make that a $20 gift card and a really big smile.

Nothing has been eaten since midnight and it is now 7:22pm. Or 19:22 as we say in the rest of the world.

Calories so far, when this current coffee mug of Merlot is consumed will be 960. Consisting of 32g carbs.

To offset this enormous intake of empty calories a small bag of steamed cauliflower is in the microwave.

Steamed cauliflower will probably still be in the microwave tomorrow afternoon. * burp *

As to that post. The 24hrs was completed by a cheese sandwich x 2 and half a can of Campbells harvest tomato soup bringing the day total to 1650 calories which is just above my daily goal.

BUT! only 690 calories was from food. 960 calories from wine. Then I had a nap.

Midnight Central time is a new day. Checking spreadsheet.

A serving of some breakfast cereal ( 59g ) and a big blob ( 170g ) of low fat vanilla Greek yogurt at 12:08am was 290 calories.

So how come that at 2:20am I am up to 1010 calories after I drink this nice coffee mug of Merlot?

It is number three. Researching time on other planets is thirsty work.

On an unrelated subject I need to get a tan.

Sitting in front of the computer and with the window wide open. The glare of the computer screen is reflecting of my belly. Especially when I am here, it is a very white site.

I have X set to night time, and watching movies is not as bright.

Moths are attracted to light, they are flying in through the open window and crashing into my glowing in the dark belly!

They do not bite, but it is annoying.

On a positive note, roaches go nuts for toast. One male roach made four attempts to eat my toast but I was not fast enough.

Fifth attempt I was ready. He crossed the rainbow bridge….

Our latest rescue, Yumiko, is fine with being petted and getting her head scratched. She’ll still hiss sometimes, but hasn’t been aggressive except when we tried getting her to the vet. I’m glad I was wearing those heavy animal handling gloves that go up to the shoulder. We have to get her in so she isn’t stuck in that cage.

Mrs is doing better. Lots more arm movement, and her follow up with the surgeon is next week. Still a few months before she knows about damage to the artery and if she’ll need replacement surgery. We’re tracking everything- mileage, time off, my time even if I’m NOT taking time off work because I could have been doing something else. Being serious, you remember I suspected multivitamins and supplements for old people causing me joint pain so I stopped taking them. Well last week pain in my hips and left knee was so bad I could not make it to the beer place and back without tears of pain. Even when knee strapped up in a knee brace thingy.

Actually had to wear knee brace all the time so I could get to bathroom and kitchen.

All pain gone now, and you reminded me to re-start taking supplements as that is obviously not the cause. Something else is triggering joint pain.

It has to be something I am eating. And something I am not eating continually.

Tried googling and doing the AI thing asking which foods can cause joint pain/inflammation and if you look at the results and combine them then the answer is.

    EVERYTHING!!!!!

Aw now it gets complicated. It looks like the human body stores toxins in fat cells to dispose of them. When you diet those fat cells get reduced in size but also release not only stored fat but the toxins that were stored there.

So, dieting to reduce body fat can actually also release toxins that can irritate joints.

I liked my life much more when I was fat, happy and did not spreadsheet everything I ate.

The issue is not geography, climate etc it is who is running the country.

Natasha is in the kitchen, sitting on the floor in a pre-pounce position. When I go in there to get another beer she gives me an angry stare then resumes the position.

I know what that means. We have a Mickey in the house. We do not call them mice, or a mouse. Reason is, before Natasha got her forever name I used to call her Mouse. She is mouse coloured and calling a cat Mouse was funny in my childish way of thinking.

Anyway it always amazes me why a mouse would even think of entering an apartment containing two ( used to be four ) cats.

According to family lore, I was expecting to find out British/Irish/German/French. I wasn’t expecting any Native American because that’s not in their database. So that part panned out. The surprise was the Scandinavian part, which they have now localized to Norway. Then I realized those Viking people kept the Irish as a slave/breeding population for about 300 years, so yeah….

My sister got the BIG surprise. No Scandinavian trace at all. But my sister got the big surprise. Ashkenazi Jewish! Where did THAT come from?? Oh, right, maternal grandmother is German. Good thing Mom was already dead, that would have killed her. She wasn’t an anti-Semite, it just made her different which she would have hated. Oddly enough, every else in her immediate family had blue eyes and light brown hair. Mom’s hair/eyes were almost black

    You better believe that!

The River Shannon that emptied on the Irish West coast was easy pickings for Norse Vikings. The O’Brian ‘sept’ and O’Kennedy ‘sept’ (groupings of seven related families under a sub-chief.) Our ‘sept’ had the O’Carolls as their sub-chief and we inhabited the ‘Devil’s-Bit – Mountain’ that was deep enough inland to stay clear of viking raiders and slavers. The Norse figured is why leave your boats ashore and vulnerable, to being burned and then walk uphill, when the O’Kennedy and O’Brien ‘septs’ were easy pickings as slaves, down river?

Our O’Caroll ‘sept’ actually had EIGHT family groups rather than the nominal seven family groups, as the O’Doolans blotted their former ‘sept’s’ copy book and were thrown out and cast up with the O’Caroll ‘sept’, as refugees.

    🙂

The Sutherland sept were all from in and around Belfast in North in the later likes of Counties Antrim, Down, Armagh, and Fermanagh.

The sub Chief of the O’Carrols were from the middle of the South in the central hill country overlooking the Shannon River. Originally our family name that belonged to the O’Carrol sept were the O Meichair family. That was the original Anglicised name from the original runes of around 500s AD. There were all manner of variations on that original pronunciation during the 1200s – 1500s.

Our sept O’Carrol region was in and around the villages of Rosscrea and Templemore, a few miles north of the Devil’s-Bit- Mountain, the O’Carrol sept stronghold.

I visited the stronghold in person on one of those dark and stormy afternoons. The Devi’s Bit was supposed to be a mountain that the Devil bit a chunk out of, and spat it …. the Rock of Cashel …. out 20 Kilometers to the South. Nice story … BUT!

About 10,000 BC a glacier, 1 mile deep ran, over the mountain and gouged out the mountain’s hard centre. Carried it south as Glaciers tended to do (downhill) and then melted and left the rock of Cashel behind. About 9,000 years later some enterprising Ryans built a castle on top of the rock. Mrs AI’s lot were Ryans! 🙂

The current Devil’s-Bit-Mountain is the small arms range for the Guarda (national cops) ,

There is a 1000 year old Round Tower right in the middle of Rosecrea village right alongside the current local gas station! To get into a stone ’round tower’ you had to use a ladder to get into a doorway about half way up the round tower and pull the ladder up after you! Then throw rocks down on anyone trying to climb the tower.

That is a funny series! 🙂

Dublin was founded by the Norse because it was warmer than the Western side of the Ireland! A bit like York on the Eastern side of England, where the Norse also settled and built a stone keep a bit inland up a Vike (creek) where is was harder to raid directly off the open sea. Dublin also had the same linage.

    :0

Vikings never built their villages on an open beach as they learned from experience, coastal sites were prone to raiders arriving unexpectedly!

A fiction written by MICHAEL CRICHTON but based on the factual but embellished writings if an Arab who had been collected along a river that was used to traverse between trade routes from Scandinavia and the Black Sea to Constantinople.

Long story short ,a bunch of Viking traders living in summer trading ports somewhere in what is the Ukraine and trading in slaves and amber into the Black Sea ports. Message from home in Northern Denmark to come quickly on a Saga. They needed a traditional 13th. Member who had to be someone weird for reasons magical and snatched an Arab trader to accompany them on a quest … dadd or alive …. it mattered little!

Eaters of the Dead: The Manuscript of Ibn Fadlan Relating His Experiences with the Northmen in AD 922 (later republished as The 13th Warrior to correspond with the film adaptation of the novel) is a 1976 novel by Michael Crichton, the fourth novel under his own name and his 14th overall. The story is about a 10th-century Muslim Arab who travels with a group of Vikings to their settlement.

Crichton explains in an appendix that the book was based on two sources. The first three chapters are a retelling of Ahmad ibn Fadlan’s personal account of his actual journey north and his experiences with and observations of Varangians. The remainder is a retelling of Beowulf.

A Tuesday afternoon shopping tip for anyone who goes to the store and using the self checkout.

As you probably know some fruits and vegetables have a bar code sticker on them. You select the produce you desire and put them in a plastic sack but leave the sack unfastened so you can get one out at the checkout, scan it, type the quantity then put the item back in the sack and tie it closed.

    Easy!!!

But wait, when unpacking my green peppers I noticed the professional shopper had done a cool trick.

Select the four green peppers, place them in the sack, tie the top. But removing a sticker from one of the peppers and sticking it to the outside of the little sack.

Obvious thing to do if you think about it. I never did…

The whole thing about cats and geese is a distraction from the actual issue. Springfield, IL is a town of 55,000 people that’s had 20,000 Hatians dumped on it. What town could support a 40% population increase over the course of a year or two, particularly when they’re people who don’t speak English, have no job skills, and have no intention of integrating into our society?

Yeah and we’ve been had. They used to help us hunt and now we’re all on the hook for vet bills, primo dog food, training etc. We’re all suckers.

And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Is Man’s Best Friend the ‘Superweapon’ That Helped Humans Outcompete the Neanderthals?

After all, the Neanderthals were bigger and stronger. They might’ve been smarter. They had homefield advantage and knew the terrain like the back of their hand: All the animals to hunt, all the best fishing spots, all the ways to survive winter. They evolved specifically for this environment; it was their home for 350,000 years!

And then, a few thousand years later, they all vanished from the earth. Whoosh!

One theory of what might’ve given humans the upper-hand is a helpful paw: The faithful dog.

We don’t know when dogs were first domesticated. Some experts believe it was only 15,000 years ago, but others put the timeline at 40,000 years ago, or even longer. The two oldest known dog skeletons were found in a Belgium cave and in the Altai Mountains of Siberia, dating back 33,000 years ago.

Either way, the bond between humans and wolves-turned-dogs predates agriculture and the invention of the wheel. It’s one of the oddest partnerships in Mother Nature: A symbiotic connection between two very different species — but one that allows both man and dog to overcome life-and-death adversity.

In the hands of a human, a domesticated dog would be tantamount to a superweapon — a technological breakthrough that equipped modern humans with night vision, an alarm system, a hunting partner, a warm body on a cold night, and even provided self-defense. Humans with spears fighting against Neanderthals with spears might be a close match, but when dogs are added to the mix, it’s a strategic mismatch.

It’s not so much an issue of Trump ballots being “lost in the mail,” though. The real issue is that it gives them cover to keep accepting ballots long after the election, which opens up the potential for wholesale printing of ballots.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine is sending troopers, $2.5M to Springfield — city facing surge of Haitian migrants

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The governor of Ohio will send law enforcement and millions of dollars in health care resources to the city of Springfield as it faces a surge in temporary Haitian migrants that has landed it in the national spotlight.

Republican Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said Tuesday he doesn’t oppose the Temporary Protected Status program under which some 15,000 Haitians have arrived in the city of about 59,000 people since 2020, but said the federal government must do more to help impacted communities.

His news conference was held just hours before the presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, where the divide over immigration policy was sure to be an issue.

On Monday, Republican Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost also drew attention to the crisis when he directed his office to research legal avenues — including filing a lawsuit — to stop the federal government from sending “an unlimited number of migrants to Ohio communities.”

Thousands of temporary Haitian migrants have landed in the city in recent years, as longstanding unrest in their home country has given way to violent gangs ruling the streets.

Ohio has already provided additional resources to Springfield to help with education and training for drivers, to pay for more vaccines and health screenings in schools, and to enhance translation services, explained DeWine. But he’s taking additional action.

“These dramatic surges impact every citizen of the community, every citizen,” he said, noting additional influxes are occurring in Findlay and Lima, Ohio. “Moms who have to wait hours in a waiting room with a sick child, everyone who drives on the streets, and it affects children who go to school in more crowded classrooms.”

On Wednesday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol will be dispatched to help local law enforcement with traffic issues that officials say have cropped up due to an increase in Haitians unfamiliar with US traffic laws using the roads. DeWine said he is also earmarking $2.5 million over two years to provide more primary health care through the county health department and private health care institutions.

DeWine’s family operates a charity in Haiti in honor of their late daughter, Becky, who died in a car accident. He said the Haitians who have moved to Ohio are generally hard-working people who love their families and who are seeking to escape the violence in their home country for good jobs in Ohio.

One thing I remember about McCain’s passing was Meghan McCain’s tears and how she managed to keep her mascara from running down to her chin for 5 fucking days

You could see the coalition taking shape years ago, when all the Best People gathered for John McCain’s funeral in Washington, D.C., and then-President Donald Trump was pointedly disinvited. Our elites air-kissed and traded alligator tears around McCain’s flag-draped casket. In a touching moment of bipartisan polyamory, George W. Bush and Michelle Obama flirted like 13-year-olds while Barack looked on with a smile.

What unites these power elites beside a haughty contempt for the public they claim to serve? One key qualification that is too little discussed, even among MAGA types: amoral, blasĂŠ, dilettantish incompetence, unencumbered by moral principles or basic human empathy.

I remember 2 other things. Ivanka showed up at the back of the church anyway in a major FUCK YOU.

But this is something that nobody followed up on. Remember when that envelope was passed around among the front pew attendees, the Bushes etc. What was that? What was in it?

    Freezing tip. This time Bananas.

If you have excess bananas they can be frozen. When thawed they do not have the same texture as a fresh banana but they can be used in smoothies or sliced onto breakfast cereal.

You can peel them, place on a plate, freeze them and when firm put them in a zip lock bag and get as much air out as you can. But they will turn brownish.

Alternatively you can just toss them in the freezer as they are. The skin is the container. To use let them sit out at room temperature for about 30 minutes then they can be peeled. The insides will be still frozen. Slice and add to cereal or whatever you want a banana in.

One word of caution. If you just casually toss a bunch of bananas into the freezer on top of a big pile of bagged up leftovers be VERY careful when you open the freezer door. In fact wear steel toecap boots when opening the door.

The bananas separate from the main stalk. They come sliding out of the freezer like anti aircraft missiles, well anti feet missiles to be exact.

Trust me on this one, I knows. And a frozen banana hitting a toe from a height of five feet tends to sting a little.

As to why homeless people are making me gain weight.

I went on a strict keto diet and managed to lose 26 pounds in two months and I can really notice the difference. My belt is fastening three holes tighter.

Then I stopped losing weight, I would like to lose another 10-15 pounds but my daily calorie average is now at 2549 and not the below 1800 I would like.

I was in a good routine, walked every day to the store. Round trip of 0.6 miles so not a factor in weight loss. However only bought a six pack of beer, 762 calories which left me 1100 a day for food.

Now lately due to the growing homeless encampment I have to pass to get to the store where the street people aggressively ask for money I am not going to the store every day.

I have been spat at because I refused to give money. Luckily the spitter was a lousy aim and missed.

So why the weight gain? last 14 days average food calories are 1078 but alcohol has risen to 1471. Hence the weight gain, consuming more than the amount I need.

The reason? Walmart now delivers my beer so I don’t have to run the gauntlet every single day. Minimum order $35. That means I always have access to more beer than my daily six pack ration and who can resist an extra beer or three on a hot summer evening.

So, there you have it. Homeless people in the area make you fat.

When I lived in State College (Penn State) I had a lovely neighbor, Suze. She was from Haiti and a grad student in Psych. When she had to learn how to administer tests or something I was her guinea pig. We had a ton of fun and she was one of the kindest people I’ve ever met.

She had a little brother – IIRC his name was Kenny? – she used to get out of Haiti every summer to stay with her. Maybe 10 yrs old. If she had to go to the campus for awhile, I babysat. One day I pissed him off because he wanted to do something I wouldn’t let him do. I forget what it was. IIRC it may have been he couldn’t go to Dairy Queen because Suze said he was eating too much junk food.

He pitched a fit and started with the voodoo curse stuff. I laughed. When Suze came home I told her about it and to my surprise she didn’t laugh.

She gave that kid an ass whooping you would not BELIEVE. She wasn’t speaking English either. When she was finished she locked him in his room and told me “This is not funny. He actually intended to hurt you. Whatever you think about voodoo, I’ve seen too much of it to not take it seriously. I will have the curse lifted but if you sense the SLIGHTEST thing is wrong – a knife goes missing, something isn’t where you left it, I don’t care, I want to know about it”.

This is why it’s called a plateau.

So as you lose weight, your metabolism declines, causing you to burn fewer calories than you did at your heavier weight.

Your slower metabolism will slow your weight loss, even if you eat the same number of calories that helped you lose weight. When the calories you burn equal the calories you eat, you reach a plateau.

The homeless causing me to drink more beer per day caused this. My calorie intake has dramatically increased recently.

If I was not logging everything I ate or drank it would not be obvious why.

Truth is I am drinking more alcohol per day.

Hey this place is anonymous, like AA so we can all tell the truth without fear of losing our jobs, homes, families or cats.

Got a Walmart delivery today, 30 12oz cans of Busch Light, Two 16oz bags of lettuce. Yep a 32oz bag is cheaper per ounce but it goes brown before I eat it all.

A 32oz bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide because after cutting my nasty toe nails I detect fungus lived there.

Also two small avocados. They are a diet killer, good for you but a small one weighs in at 230 calories. Small and sneaky.

The drunk Possum is caused by the $18 5L box of Cabernet. 4 coffee mugs of it, 300g per mug, 240 calories per mug and I am at 960 calories of no food today so far.

All because of the homeless. Which in an area of 99.9% Hispanic and 0.01% white, which is me the homeless encampment is 100% you guess…

    A cat post.

Cats and school busses. At 3:15pm within a few minutes each way a school buss comes past and dumps small children here. Then goes to the end of the road and comes back a few minutes later to dump more small children.

Cats enjoying life outside on the balcony do not care.

4:30pm school bus drives past delivering bigger children, cats on balcony go nuts and run inside. Actually jumping on my mouse mat and wanting a cuddle.

After a few minutes they calm down and all is normal until the same school bus that turned around at the end of the road comes past, they both go into the crouching, bared teeth growling thing.

Has that particular school bus got a turbo charger issue with its diesel engine producing noise at a high frequency humans cannot hear?

They used to do this with a particular ambulance a couple of years ago.

Man I fucking HATED that. When I got overtime pay it was always time-and-a-half. It was taxed as tho that was the annual salary. So a $30/hr (about $62k annual) at time-and-a-half got taxed at about a $90k salary rate. Which meant I brought home just about what I brought home w/o the extra pay. It was brutal. When we were converting the operating system, it was 13 hr days, 6 days a week for almost 4 months. We were all zombies. And for what?

No, it stops before it gets to the wrist.
Slight pressure under the shoulder blade (like a pillow) slowly alleviates the ache significantly, but it returns when the pressure is removed.

    I know nothing about anything.

In 2014 I was in serious pain in both arms at night. It was as if I had gone into a deep sleep and slept on one. But how did I go into a deep sleep and lay on both arms.

Got diagnosed by some hick Iowa doctor that knew his shit. Carpal tunnel syndrome.

Pain does not manifest in hands or wrists. It does in places higher up the arm.

Anyway, got surgery both hands and shoulder pains went away.

Germany sent half their navy. To China, why?

If they wanted to practice sailing there is the big Atlantic ocean right next to them. However to get to the Atlantic they have to courageously defy the three Royal navy warships that stand, or float to be more accurate, in their way.
