A reply to a question on the last thread. I know, I know, don’t drag things from an old thread onto the new one but, moderators don’t ban me. Please make an exception this time.

I do butter my toast when making beans on toast. The secret is let the toast cool first before buttering, otherwise the butter makes the toast soggy.

Then apply hot bake beans to the cool toast and visible butter on its surface the beans then melt and mingle with the butter.

Basically hot toast should not be buttered, cool toast and butter is awesome.

( expecting a week ban as punishment but I am OK with that, commit the crime, do the time. )

    ah ha!

I use a cheese planer to scrape butter off a stick. It provides a really thin strip so that you don’t need to scrape with a knife and ruin the bread. 2 strips usually cover a piece, just let it warm up a bit and it’s easily spreadable.

An interesting twist on the situation in Korea. It seems the U.S. Ambassador to South Korea, Philip Goldberg, had previously been kicked out of Bolivia and the Philippines for attempts to overthrow the respective sitting governments.

And he is supposed to leave South Korea in January…

    Philippines.

The United States has had a lower-ranking diplomat in the South American country since Morales ordered the last ambassador Philip Goldberg to leave in 2008, blaming him for opposition protests against his rule.

U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Philip Goldberg will retire and depart Seoul in January, a diplomatic source said Wednesday, a retirement following 35 years of service, including a 2 1/2-year stint in Seoul.

    Good.

BREAKING: Kash Patel just sent a legal notice to Mike Pence’s advisor, Olivia Troye, to immediately retract the defamatory statements she made about him or face massive legal action.

On Joyles Reid’s segment, Troye said, “Kash Patel is a delusional liar. And he would lie about intelligence. He would lie about making things up on operations. I think Mark Esper has talked about that as well. Where he put the lives of Navy SEALs at risk in an operation when it came to Nigeria.”

In their letter, Patel’s lawyers said, “Litigation will be filed against you if you fail to publicly retract defamatory statements you made about Mr. Patel on MSNBC on December 2, 2024… These comments include that Mr. Patel would “lie about intelligence” and would “lie about making things up on operations” to the point where Mr. Patel “put the lives of Navy Seals at risk when it came to Nigeria,” and that Mr. Patel was even misinforming Vice President Mike Pence.

“This is a complete fabrication, and you know it is false by virtue of your former position in the White House. At no point did Mr. Patel ever lie about national intelligence, place Navy Seals at risk, or misinform the Vice President.”

Biden White House Is Discussing Preemptive Pardons for Those in Trump’s Crosshairs

The nomination of Kash Patel, who has vowed to pursue Trump’s critics, as FBI director has heightened concerns within the president’s inner circle.

President Joe Biden’s senior aides are conducting a vigorous internal debate over whether to issue preemptive pardons to a range of current and former public officials who could be targeted with President-elect Donald Trump’s return to the White House, according to senior Democrats familiar with the discussions.

Biden’s aides are deeply concerned about a range of current and former officials who could find themselves facing inquiries and even indictments, a sense of alarm which has only accelerated since Trump last weekend announced the appointment of Kash Patel to lead the FBI. Patel has publicly vowed to pursue Trump’s critics.

The White House officials, however, are carefully weighing the extraordinary step of handing out blanket pardons to those who’ve committed no crimes, both because it could suggest impropriety, only fueling Trump’s criticisms, and because those offered preemptive pardons may reject them.

The deliberations touch on pardoning those currently in office, elected and appointed, as well as former officials who’ve angered Trump and his loyalists.

Those who could face exposure include such members of Congress’ Jan. 6 Committee as Sen.-elect Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming. Trump has previously said Cheney “should go to Jail along with the rest of the Unselect Committee!” Also mentioned by Biden’s aides for a pardon is Anthony Fauci, the former head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases who became a lightning rod for criticism from the right during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The West Wing deliberations have been organized by White House counsel Ed Siskel but include a range of other aides, including chief of staff Jeff Zients. The president himself, who was intensely focused on his son’s pardon, has not been brought into the broader pardon discussions yet, according to people familiar with the deliberations.

By definition you can’t pardon people who haven’t been charged. WTF is happening, have they completely lost control of their senses? If they set this precedent then any future president of either side can do blanket pardons of people then tell them to run wild.

This is insane. I do hope Schiff and Fauci are held accountable for what they have done. Schiffhead himself should never see the outside of a cell.

That’s exactly what he did with Hunter’s pardon. It doesn’t even mention the cases were he’s actually been convicted. It’s a blanket pardon for “any offenses against the United States” that he may have committed or been part of for the past 11 years.

WHY THE SPECIAL PAYMENTS TO MICHAEL BYRD? Byrd is the U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) officer who shot and killed Ashli Babbit during the January 6, 2021, riot on the Capitol grounds.

Just the News’s Steve Richards reported earlier this week that Byrd received substantially more financial and other assistance than any other USCP officer on duty during the riot. Byrd got a $37,000 retention bonus, help with $160,000 in private fundraising, housing, and a promotion to captain.

Today, Richards quotes the head of the USCP Union asking some very tough questions for which the incoming-House GOP leadership should demand answers from Democratic leaders of the 117th Congress, including most especially then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

First question: Why did Pelosi, then-House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) pressure the USCP leadership to go to extraordinary lengths to keep Byrd quiet?

“Not sure what makes Mike Byrd so special that he thinks he needed to be ‘taken care of’ by the Department. USCP should give every officer a $37k bonus or have Mike Byrd pay it all back,” USCP Union Chairman Gus Papathanasiou told Just The News.

He loses his firearm automatically. No due process. No questions asked.”

“This decision has not been made by a judge. It’s being made by a bureaucrat.”

“All our amendment would do would be able would be to say, um, the VA, just because you’ve asked for help with your money, cannot automatically take away your firearm or report you to NICS.”

    @ coldwarrior:

I haz my own story, will tell later. But first….

Why tech moguls supported Trump. Joe Rogan interview w/Andreesen. He attended some WH meetings. We really dodged a bullet.

“They were taking us through their plans, and it was – basically just full government – full government control. Like this sort of thing, there will be a small number of large companies that will be completely regulated and controlled by the government, they told us. They said don’t even start startups – there’s just no way that they can succeed – there’s no way that we’re going to permit that to happen.”

    Rogan gasped.

But Andreessen wasn’t finished. “They said that this [control of AI] is already over. It’s going to be two or three companies and we’re just gonna control them and that’s that. Like this is already finished.”

    Debanking

“This administration [Biden] extended that concept to apply it to tech founders, crypto founders, and just generally political opponents,” Andreessen said. They use it “primarily against their political enemies and then to their disfavored tech startups. … We’ve had like 30 tech founders debanked in the last four years. It’s been a big recurring pattern.”

Summing up, he noted, “This is one of the reasons we ended up supporting Trump. … We can’t live in a world where somebody starts a company that’s a completely legal thing and they literally get sanctioned and embargoed through the United States government through a completely unaccountable [authority].”

He added, “By the way, no due process. None of this is written down. There’s no rules. There’s no court. There’s no decision process. There’s no appeal. Who do you appeal to?”

Don’t know if I ever mentioned this but w/in a year after we got here I ended up in the hospital. I woke up one a.m. and my thighs hurt so badly I didn’t want to walk. Tylenol didn’t help. Couldn’t sleep. By 4 am I COULDN’T walk.
Ambulance took me to the nearest hospital (we have 2). Hours in the ER. Saw the doc once, gave me one dose of hydrocodone which lasted 90 mins. Never saw him again. Next thing I know I’m being admitted for – COVID. WTF? I don’t have COVID. They took blood and urine samples but that was it.

The dumped me in a bed and left me there. The only med personnel I saw were ‘intern nurses’ who did nothing more than pop into the room every 4 hours, ask if I was ok and then wrote their names on a white board and the time they had checked in. I begged for pain meds. After 1 day they gave me – MIDOL! They wouldn’t let me husband in because COVID.

On the 3rd day they told me I was being discharged. WHY? There’s been no improvement, I haven’t seen a doc. BECAUSE THAT’S ALL YOUR INSURANCE WILL PAY FOR.

I couldn’t walk even with a walker, so they put me in a wheelchair and wheeled me out to my husband.

Next morning I got an emergency visit w/ my PA, Mrs. Knight who is wonderful. She said “I’ve looked at your hospital records, I don’t need to diagnose you, the diagnosis is in the records. You have a UTI and I’m gonna fix you right up.”

I mean, Jesus, there was blood in the urine!

2 hours after taking her pain med I could walk and 10 days on whatever antibiotic that was all done!

That motherfucker doctor was on the COVID gravy train. He could have killed me. His name is Monty Hall and if I ever run into him again it will be with my car.

    ok wait, no………….

By agreeing to dismiss Count 1 on the prosecution’s motion, the judge in the Penny case is effectively rewriting the jury verdict form. He’s letting the jury deliberate on Count 2, criminal negligence, without first reaching a verdict of not guilty on Count1, as required by the verdict form. The defense will appeal if Penny is convicted on the lesser charge.

    https://x.com/KingMakerFT/status/1865149327988912361

Some are calling this a set up for a compromise verdict. I think it’s somewhat different. If the jury followed the terms of the verdict form, there has yet to be any deliberations on Count 2. Penny proponents on the jury will now know that if they stick to their guns, there will be a mistrial. Starting from scratch again leaves no room to compromise, as the defense-leaning jurors have already succeeded on Count 1. Going forward on Count 2 alone makes this an all or nothing case.

Received it in my email just after exiting the bathroom and realizing that the last of the toilet roll I used was actually the LAST of the nice angel soft I processed!

Great! into the cart went Angel Soft 2-Ply Toilet Paper, 12 Mega Rolls for $8.44 but minimum order is $35 for free delivery.

So, had to add Franzia Vintner Select Cabernet Sauvignon Red Wine International, 5 L Bag in Box, 13% ABV

And, Busch Light Lager Domestic Beer 30 Pack 12 fl oz Aluminum Cans 4.1% ABV

Now as a result of me unexpectedly running out of ass wipe, which could have been avoided with proper planning, the Possum is going to be as drunk as a skunk for the next few days.

But will have a clean and happy butt….

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted dozens of precision airstrikes targeting known ISIS camps and operatives in central Syria, Dec. 8.

The strikes against the ISIS leaders, operatives, and camps were conducted as part of the ongoing mission to disrupt, degrade, and defeat ISIS, in order to prevent the terrorist group from conducting external operations and to ensure that ISIS does not seek to take advantage of the current situation to reconstitute in central Syria.

The operation struck over 75 targets using multiple U.S. Air Force assets, including B-52s, F-15s, and A-10s.

Battle damage assessments are underway, and there are no indications of civilian casualties.

CENTCOM, together with allies and partners in the region, will continue to carry out operations to degrade ISIS operational capabilities even during this dynamic period in Syria.

“There should be no doubt – we will not allow ISIS to reconstitute and take advantage of the current situation in Syria,” said General Michael Erik Kurilla, “All organizations in Syria should know that we will hold them accountable if they partner with or support ISIS in any way.”

Adam Schiff to Take Office Monday, Not in January, After Newsom Makes Power Play to Help California

Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) will become Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA) on Monday, December 9, after current Sen. Laphonza Butler (D-CA) resigned abruptly, allowing California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) to appoint Schiff early.

The gambit, while technically legal, is an evident attempt by California to gain an edge in the Senate by giving Schiff seniority over newly-elected Senators from other states, who will only be sworn into their offices on January 3, 2025.

Newsom’s office said in a statement:

Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the appointment of Senator-elect Adam Schiff to complete the remaining U.S. Senate term of Senator Laphonza Butler following her resignation.

Senator Butler announced her resignation effective December 8, 2024, to ensure Californians have their duly elected representative seated as soon as possible. Senator-elect Schiff, who won election to a full term beginning in January, is expected to be sworn in on Monday, December 9, 2024.

Newsom appointed Butler after Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) died in office last year. Some black Democrats were furious with him for not appointing Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA), who was running for Senate at the time against Schiff.

Once again, Schiff’s rise has meant that a black woman has had to step aside, which is sure to raise some eyebrows.

As the world descends further into chaos, at least the Biden administration has its priorities straight:

Biden’s HHS Celebrates ‘Pansexual and Panromantic Pride Day’

President Joe Biden’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) celebrated yet another LGBTQ+ holiday on Sunday, paying homage to “Pansexual and Panromantic Pride Day” in a post to X.

“Today on Pansexual and Panromantic Pride Day, everyone deserves to feel seen, respected and supported—no matter who they love. Create a world where everyone feels proud to be themselves!” the HHS post reads.

The post was met with many comments slamming the Biden administration’s priorities and looking forward to the coming Trump administration in January.

“At this point, I’m just confused. I have no idea what they even mean,” Elon Musk responded.

“Glad this type of bullshit will end on Jan 20! Can’t come soon enough,” Senator-elect Jim Banks (R-IN) remarked.

“Sanity is returning to HHS in 43 days,” said Stephen Miller, who will serve as senior staff in the Trump administration.

“I cannot wait for this degenerate embarrassment of an administration to end,” conservative commentator Allie Beth Stuckey said.

“Switch this to ‘Lower Healthcare Costs Day’ & we’d be making progress,” Vivek Ramaswamy said.

There are at least 28 LGBTQ+ holidays (besides the whole month of June for “Pride month”), several of which the Biden administration has acknowledged — including posting about “Transgender Day of Visibility” on Easter.

Activists Call on Biden to Clear Death Row Before Trump Takes Office

A group of human rights activists, former corrections officials and families of crime victims asked President Biden on Monday to use his clemency power to take all 40 inmates off federal death row before he hands over power to President-elect Donald J. Trump.

In a series of open letters, the group noted that Mr. Biden campaigned on opposing capital punishment. Mr. Trump supports the death penalty and restarted federal executions after a nearly 20-year pause during his first term.

“As your time in office comes to a close, there is an unprecedented need for you to cement your commitment to remedying injustices by exercising executive clemency and commuting the death sentences of those on federal death row,” one of the letters said.

The letters on Monday aligned with a larger effort by congressional Democrats and others to persuade Mr. Biden to use his clemency power to commute death sentences to life sentences without parole and to free people serving disproportionally long drug sentences.

    Food post.

Papa blanca or roughly translated white potato. I have been buying these from the local convenience store $1.29 a pound.

Just thought they were nice potatoes, I boil them for about 20 minutes in salted water then let them cool. Cut them into quarters and put them into a gallon ziplock bag and coat them with coconut oil. The ziplock is re-usable, it goes in the freezer when its job is done.

Potatoes are then air fried at 400F for 20 minutes and the result is awesome tasting and slightly sweet roasted potatoes!

After Googling papa blanca it seems the real ones come from Peru and are different to USA potatoes.

    https://www.limaeasy.com/peruvian-food-guide/vegetables-veggies/papa-peruvian-potatoes

    Papa Blanca – White Potato
Many different potato varieties are sold under the term Papa Blanca; but be careful, not everything labeled Papa Blanca is a true white potato. Real Papas Blancas are characterized by a light brownish outside and a firm, pale whitish colored flesh. They are great for general cooking and frying, and therefore probably the most consumed potato in Peru. Papas Blancas are used in all Peruvian dishes where the potatoes should stay more or less firm. But don’t overcook them, else they get mashy.

Just used Google maps to see where Peru is. It is a long way away from Texas.

How is it possible to ship produce that distance for such a low price?

Netanyahu: Golan Heights Will Be ‘Forever’ Part of Israel

Following the rapid collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria over the weekend, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the Golan Heights will be a “part” of Israel “forever.”

On Sunday, Netanyahu said in a video address from the Golan Heights, located between Israel and Syria, that Israeli forces secured the entirety of the region as a security measure. He also said that a 1974 agreement between Israel and the regime of then-leader Hafez al-Assad is now dissolved after Bashar al-Assad fled the country as rebels took over Damascus.

In a statement a day later, Netanyahu said, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank my friend, President-elect Donald Trump for acceding to my request to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights, in 2019.”
He said that “the importance of this historic recognition has been underscored today,” and now, “the Golan Heights will be an inseparable part of the State of Israel forever.”

“The collapse of the Syrian regime is a direct result of the severe blows with which we have struck Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran,” Netanyahu said. “I would like to make it clear: Additional challenges yet await us in the campaign and we are still active.”

Before my afternoon nap I was going to eat some Peruvian roast potatoes and liver and onions but changed my mind.

A couple of grilled cheese and onion and bologna sandwiches were desired.

Side note, I buy sharp or extra sharp cheddar and recently it does not seem to be as tangy as I remember it so I have to sharpen it up with a smear of horse radish.

Sandwiches were nasty! Texture all wrong. Bologna was the cause, it is OK cold in a cold sandwich but hot is nasty. So, sandwiches dismantled and bologna into the trash.

I am a gourmet chef, I specialise in International cuisine and I knows things.

Not only is taste an important factor in creating awesome food then so is texture.

Do not try putting bologna in a grilled cheese sandwich. Ham will work, not bologna

    @ Possum:
Grok says have fun and try it.

is bologna good in a grilled cheese sandwich
    Answer
Bologna in a grilled cheese sandwich? That’s an interesting twist on a classic! Here’s the breakdown:

    Pros:
Flavor Fusion: Bologna adds a savory, slightly smoky flavor that can complement the richness of melted cheese.
Texture: It introduces a different texture, potentially making your sandwich more interesting with its meatiness.

    Cons:
Grease Factor: Bologna can release a lot of grease when grilled, which might make your sandwich soggy or overly greasy unless managed properly.
Traditionalists: Some might argue it’s not a true grilled cheese since it includes meat, which could be seen as straying from the sandwich’s essence.

Tips if you want to try it:
Drain the Grease: Consider pre-cooking the bologna to drain some of the fat before adding it to the sandwich.
Cheese Choice: Opt for cheeses that melt well and can stand up to bologna’s flavor—think cheddar or Swiss rather than more delicate cheeses like brie.
Bread Choice: A sturdy bread might handle the extra moisture better than a thin, soft slice.

Ultimately, whether bologna is good in a grilled cheese sandwich is subjective. If you’re feeling adventurous or love the combination of meat and cheese, you might find it delightful. If you’re more of a purist, maybe stick to the classic or experiment with different meats like ham or bacon. Why not give it a shot and see if it’s your new favorite or just a fun experiment?

LOL Grok says ham. I agree with Grok. Best $1 a week I ever spent.

Glass bottles are fuck all use in recycling. It takes as much energy to melt and recycle a glass bottle as it takes to make new glass.

Not taking into account the impurities and different colours of the recycled glass.

HOWEVER! as far back as 1974 when I was working a summer job at a dairy then we did a weekly run to a glass recycling place in England to drop off all the chipped glass milk bottles.

They melted the glass, did something to it and made it into tiny beads. That was then mixed with paint and used on roads.

In the UK the road markings really glow in the dark when your head lights light them up. Them glass beads in the paint.

In the US not as common.

I could search for videos of the difference in the reflectivity of UK road markings against US road markings but, why bother….

  240. lobo91
    250 | December 11, 2024 12:35 am

    @ eaglesoars:

The B&T Station Six is a magazine-fed bolt action 9mm pistol with a built-in suppressor (silencer). It sort of looks like a semi-auto, but it doesn’t have a slide. Instead, there’s a knob at the back of what would be the slide that you rotate 90 degrees and pull back to eject the spent cartridge and then push forward and turn to load the next round. Since there’s no moving slide, it decreases the noise considerably.

The reason people thought that was the gun used is because the shooter had to manually work the slide after each shot. On the fairly low-resolution video, it sort of looked like a bolt action. The reason he had to manually work the slide was because it was a POS pistol/suppressor combo that he wasn’t smart enough to properly set up.

For anyone following my computer saga which started in August when my laptop had a hard drive failure and the only way I had to replace the hard drive and re-install Windows was to buy a refurbished HP desk top which came with a monitor for $135 and create a recovery USB thingy.

Refurbished desktop was awesome! came with a kick ass refurbished Dell monitor, then Glen pissed on it.

So, bought another refurbished HP desktop of the same type. Stripped the pissed on desktop down to the individual parts and isopropyl alcohol them to clean off the cat piss and let it all dry.

Anyway, end result is got the cat piss computer running, laptop running and other HP desktop running.

Cat piss computer is really fast so that is my main one. A few weeks ago it started randomly stopping. No blue screen, just stopped. Annoying but powering off then back on and we were good to go. Thought it may be CPUs overheating due to the fact that when I took the motherboard out to wash cat piss off it I had to take the heatsink off and did not have any heat sink slime when I re-assembled it. Installed a CPU temperature monitor but CPU temps normal. 50C when running it hard.

So, installed Malwarebytes to look for a virus etc. All OK.

All Windows updates up to date.

On 8th December just for shits and giggles I did the optional driver update thingy on Windows update.

Not had a crash since. Kicking myself that I selected all optional driver updates at the same time not each one individually.

Anyway, my theory is one of the latest Windows updates decided not to play nice with one of the hardware drivers I had. The reason for the cat piss computer suddenly deciding to freeze up randomly.

So, basically do not ignore the optional driver updates. Or don’t let your cat piss into the back of your computer, or both…

    I couldn’t walk even with a wa

From first hand experience. It is a total eambugurance and just stuffs up front line units. Brigade / Battle groups and below are not suitable for females. For a period we even had females down to Battalion level and it was just stupid. Even at Battle Group level (about 3500 strong they just got in the way). They made good signallers and their voices carried in poor comms conditions as the frequency mix of their voices carried. They made good intelligence operators as well in selected specialities. Physically they were just not strong enough to cut it however. They distracted males from their own tasks because they couldn’t do the physical work load and guys would step in to help them do physical tasks, and that lowered the males’ as they were double tasking.

Even inside a Brigade HQ females couldn’t do their tasks when in the field and overall efficiencies fell across formations. The Israelis trialed mixed units below Divisional lever for years and it always ended in lower levels of combat efficiencies. Females were useful in Primary Interrogation Units but not below Division. Possum is also correct as physically females were better suited pulling heavy G loads that burley male jock fighter pilots.

There was always the odd female athlete who could match the average male in tough field conditions but as their numbers were very low they were more of an administrative problem and had a negative effect on overall unit cohesion. Not from a sexual problem but guys tended to naturally shield females from the rigours of the field and that protective attitude lowered the males overall efficiencies. Males tended to naturally protect females and that distracted males from doing their own tasks.

Recently I watched a Commando Company that had the odd female in their ranks, attached to an SAS Regiment. The Commando Company did anti-terrorist duties that relieved the SAS for their prime tasking of strategic reconnaissance and long range patrolling. These females were as strong as the average male Commando, but the tasking saw their Commandos centrally deployed to Corps level duties in HQs. These females were true athletes and could cut the mustard, but their numbers were microscopic and they would never have been posted to a Commando unit away from the Counter-terrorist speciality.

That’sjust the way it is and you can’t pretend otherwise for political or ideological reasons

And I said upthread that you simply cannot mix male/female infantry units because men are hardwired to protect women and children. One of the tactics the Viet Cong used was to march children in front of them. I’ve met more than one soldier with what we now call PTSD because he had to kill kids to protect from the enemy. And if you look at IDF units, they don’t mix either (I think)

Can you believe this is a US NAVY Recruiting Office in Alhambra, CA? EVERY recruiter here is Chinese, as well as all the people coming to enlist. The working language here is also Chinese.

The video was filmed by a Chinese language YouTuber, and the US NAVY recruiter who took him there to film all this is EN2 QLANG WANG.

In the description box of this video on YouTube, which was uploaded on Dec 1, 2024, QLANG WANG’s contact information is provided, and what concerns me is that the first option listed is his WeChat ID. The telephone number of the office comes as the second choice.

As all data on WeChat is controlled by the CCP, this at least gives the CCP access to the personal data of all those who apply to join the US NAVY and who are admitted.

The second question is: Why is this office staffed exclusively by Chinese individuals?

The other day, I shared a video where a Chinese-American military member said that if the US goes to war with China, he would quit the US army because he doesn’t want to fight against China.

If all these Chinese people recruited through this office feel the same, what will happen?

And a worse-case scenario is: What if some of them are recruited by the CCP as spies? Or perhaps they already are spies?

One thing I am sure of, from listening to their accent, is that they all come from mainland China, everyone in this video.

And the title of the original Chinese language video is: “How Desperate Are Chinese People to Join the US Military? They’re Overwhelming Recruitment Offices, Each with Their Own Reasons for Enlisting”

The Chinese word used is “中國人”, which can be translated as Chinese people, or more precisely, people from PRC, or people of PRC. In the mind or subconsciousness of the YouTuber who shot this video, all these people still belong to the PRC.

I seriously doubt that anything in that comment is actually true.

No new contract was signed for F-35 production last month. There was a “handshake” deal agreed to about the unit price for the next two batches of aircraft to be built. And it was nowhere near $1 trillion (probably under $1 billion).

Cancelling the F-35 program at this point would throw the Air Force, Navy and USMC fighter programs (not to mention those of most of our allies) into chaos, because there’s nothing else in the pipeline. It’s not like a city switching from Ford police cars to Dodges.

One really misleading thing you’ll hear about the F-35 program is its cost. People like to bring up the projected lifecycle cost of around $2 trillion without explaining what that actually pays for. That’s the anticipated cost of designing, building, maintaining and FLYING the F-35 fleet for its planned service life. Which, by the way, is projected to be until 2088.

I’m sure there were people complaining about the cost of the B-52 when it was introduced, too. If they’d only flown for 5 or 10 years, they might have been correct. But here it is almost 2025, and we’re still flying them (and plan to continue for at least another 25 years). It turned out to be a pretty good ROI.

The fact that they’re still using cans is interesting. We did away with those in the mid-80s

Cans are easier, of course. It’s over 100 year old technology. But they’re heavy. The plastic pouches we use weigh next to nothing, and they’re basically flat. They fit in your cargo pocket a lot better than a steel can does.
