Protesting the mosque at Ground Zero – September 11, 2010

Hey guys –

Okay – I’m filing this report a little tipsy and these are basically the EDL (English Defense League) takes New York photos because I was so utterly enchanted with their presence! They were in full effect and even though I didn’t have the nerve to talk to any of them much, I would like to take this opportunity to thank them from the bottom of my heart for coming here and showing solidarity with us. Cool T-shirts and swoon worthy accents aside, it was incredibly moving for me to see that these stalwart friends saw that our beacon was alight and they came, from so far away, to stand with us. We LOVE you!

As if cute Brits weren’t enough, this was an incredible rally. The speakers were impressive an inspiring. Geert Wilders (!) was just as amazing as expected, Congressional candidate from North Carolina Ilario Pantano , who I had never heard of, kicked ass and the video messages from John Bolton(!) and Andrew Breitbart were absolutely on target. The one that really sticks out, however, was Joseph Nassralla. He is a Coptic Christian from Egypt, by way of California, and he really knocked it out of the fucking park. I was in tears. (Not the first time this day, granted, but this was intense.) He was so passionate in his love of America. He kept exhorting us to ‘Wake Up’. He apologized for holding up the photograph of his friend who had been murdered on the steps of their church. He realistically wondered where he could go and be safe if America fell, the moon? He warned us about muslim lies and he told us, chillingly, that in ten years, it will be too late. We, of course, know this but to hear it from this man who really knows it and has seen the horror of it, just overwhelmed me. There were many other speakers, some famous, some not, but they were all good and they all made me proud to be an American.

I stayed until the end and then went to an Irish bar around the corner that was full of firefighters and got drunk. God Bless America!

p.s. My friends who were way in the back said there was heavy infiltration – sorry I don’t have any pictures of that stuff! I don’t know how I keep missing the ‘action’, but I will keep trying to find it! 🙂

p.p.s Thanks again EDL!!!

Hey Guys!

Here are some photos from the rally in NYC yesterday morning, if you’re interested:

I was a little worried when I got up because the the weather was looking kinda bad – rainy and really hot, but we had an excellent turnout! The first photo is of the puny counter-protest. They were such an anemic looking bunch, I didn’t even try to get a closer look. There were a few scattered moonbats on the periphery of our rally, but they were pretty bland and they were keeping their mouths shut and the police did an excellent job of keeping them out of our hair. Our crowd was GREAT!! Lot’s of firemen and construction workers here this time and they seemed like they’ve just about had enough of this mosque nonsense. This rally didn’t feel as ‘festive’ as some I’ve attended – it was in fact, quite appropriately, a little grim. Everybody was perfectly aware of what this victory mosque signifies and they didn’t try to soften their anger with humorous signs. It was awesome! I could really feel a growing momentum. We may be outnumbered up here, but were scrappy. Don’t count us out just yet! 🙂

All the best,
Bluebird

There weren’t that many people there, surprisingly. I got the feeling most of them were just passing by or were locals who weren’t really disrupting their routines to be there or were garden variety kooks who show up at everything to deliver their incoherent schpiels. Even the Communist, who did not seem enchanted with 0, appeared to be phoning it in. The fellow in the picture with him was totally cool – he was on rollerblades and he glided around loudly saying 0 was stealing from us and our children and was stifling our free speech – then he sped off and the Communist didn’t offer even a perfunctory rebuttal. The security wasn’t even that strict – the police were friendly and had a decidedly ho-hum attitude about the whole deal. I think this is progress – gone are the shrines ( and I’m talking actual shrines – with candles and talismans and stuff) and the fainting fools who so feverishly prostrated themselves in his service at every opportunity – and they’ve been replaced with a bunch of bored looky-loos on their lunch break. LOL! When Clinton was here the streets were blocked off for two hours…. after he left! These were the most interesting people we saw:
