Say you live under an oppressive government and decide to fight for a positive change. Of course, Democracy is by definition majority rule, but you believe it’s a start in the right direction. So you decide to participate in a public protest of whatever current regime happens to be in power.

Because you’re technologically savvy, you find that Microsoft has a new product – flexible thin screen electronic membranes – to assist with producing awesome animated protest banners. But there’s a glitch…

Installing Democracy FAIL

Fortunately for you, you’re not in that predicament (yet) and all you have to deal with is refreshing THE OVERNIGHT OPEN THREAD.

BLOGMOCRACY IN ACTION!
GUEST POST BY BLUEBIRD!

There weren’t that many people there, surprisingly. I got the feeling most of them were just passing by or were locals who weren’t really disrupting their routines to be there or were garden variety kooks who show up at everything to deliver their incoherent schpiels. Even the Communist, who did not seem enchanted with 0, appeared to be phoning it in. The fellow in the picture with him was totally cool – he was on rollerblades and he glided around loudly saying 0 was stealing from us and our children and was stifling our free speech – then he sped off and the Communist didn’t offer even a perfunctory rebuttal. The security wasn’t even that strict – the police were friendly and had a decidedly ho-hum attitude about the whole deal. I think this is progress – gone are the shrines ( and I’m talking actual shrines – with candles and talismans and stuff) and the fainting fools who so feverishly prostrated themselves in his service at every opportunity – and they’ve been replaced with a bunch of bored looky-loos on their lunch break. LOL! When Clinton was here the streets were blocked off for two hours…. after he left! These were the most interesting people we saw:

Voices From Around The World The Media Missed

When George W. Bush or his administration visited a foreign country, the news feeds were flooded with pictures and articles regarding the Anti-Bush protests and other similar stories to create a feeling that there was an Anti-Americanism being fanned across the World because of Bush’s policies.

Although there might be a valid argument for that point-of-view (one I cannot verify or reject insofar that I must rely on the news), the way that the mainstream media handles Obama and his administration’s visits to foreign nations (and in general) evidences the media bias, and the power the media has to shape the story, and thus the public’s response, and therefore the future.   The election of President Barack Hussein Obama made that very evident.

Below are pictures from Obama’s trip across the world, and those of his administration that you wouldn’t have seen otherwise.  (place cursor over picture for description)

Turkey

Demonstrators hold an anti-U.S. President Barack Obama placard during protests in downtown Ankara April 6, 2009. Obama is visiting Turkey on the last leg of an eight-day trip that marks his debut as president on the world stage, is a recognition of the secular but predominantly Muslim country's growing clout and Washington's desire for its help to solve confrontations and conflicts from Iran to Afghanistan.'Halkin Kurtulus Partisi' reads as People's Independence Party.

A woman protests while holding a banner reading "Obama, dont come to Turkey" during a demonstration in Istanbul on April 6, 2009. Barack Obama, seeking to boost ties with a key Muslim ally, firmly backed Turkey's bid to join the EU and tread carefully on Armenia's decades-old claims of genocide.

Demonstrators shout anti-U.S President Barack Obama slogans during a protest in Istanbul April 7, 2009. Obama is on the last leg of his debut trip on the world stage as president. He is trying to rebuild ties with Muslims after anger at the invasion of Iraq and war in Afghanistan, made more urgent by a strengthening al Qaeda and Taliban insurgency.

Indonesia

Students shout 'God is Great' during a rally against the visit of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to Indonesia at Jakarta's presidential palace February 18, 2009. Clinton arrived in Indonesia on Wednesday for a goodwill visit to the world's most populous Muslim nation, where President Barack Obama is a popular figure, despite some anti-U.S. protests.

.

England

A demonstrator holds a placard with the words 'Obama kiss my toxic assets' during the "Put People First" march through central London, on March 28, 2009. Tens of thousands of trade unionists, environmental campaigners and anti-globalisation activists took to the streets of London on Saturday to start five days of protests before the G20 summit.

SPAIN

A man wearing a mask resembling US President Barack Obama holds a placard reading "Crisis? Calm down, there is nothing wrong" in front of the Finance Ministry in Madrid on March 28, 2009, during a demonstration as part of a day of protests ahead of the G20 summit to be held in London on April 2, 2009 .US Vice President Joe Biden called for tens of thousands of protesters already on the streets of Europe ahead of a G20 summit next week to give governments a chance to tackle the economic crisis.
