Mexican Cartels use Chicago as a transportation hub

by Phantom Ace ( 11 Comments › )

This is very long and good read. The article describes how the Mexican Cartels are following the footsteps of the Italian Mob in using Chicago as a transportation hub for drugs. Chicago is centrally located near major Highways and railroads. Another interesting note is that the Cartel leaders comes from Mexico’s Upper class and inside the US, don’t commit the same level of violence as they do in Mexico. The main Cartel that is dominant is Sinaloa who are Zeta’s rivals.

The failure is as much Chicago’s as the nation’s. For this city has replaced Miami as the primary U.S. distribution point for illegal narcotics—mainly cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and methamphetamine—imported from Mexico.

In a 2010 report, the U.S. Department of Justice named the Chicago metro area the No. 1 destination in the United States for heroin shipments, No. 2 for marijuana and cocaine, and No. 5 for methamphetamine. Chicago is the only U.S. city to rank in the top five for all four major drug categories. No wonder Sinaloa boss Guzmán was quoted in a recent New York Times Magazine article calling Chicago his cartel’s “home port.”

[….]

Chicago is the transportation hub of America, a fact not lost on the Mexican cartels (just as it wasn’t on Capone and his fellow bootleggers almost a century ago). It’s ideally located within a day’s drive of 70 percent of the nation’s population. Six interstate highways crisscross the region, connecting east and west. Only two states (Texas and
California) have more interstate highway miles than Illinois.

As for rail transport, Chicago welcomes six of the seven major railroads and accounts for a quarter of the country’s rail traffic. Water? The Port of Chicago is one of the nation’s largest inland cargo ports, and the city is the world’s third-largest handler of shipping containers (after Singapore and Hong Kong). And let’s not forget about Midway and O’Hare: More than 86 million passengers and 1.5 million tons of cargo passed through these airports combined in 2011, the latest year for which data are available.

Great read!

Caturday: Possible cougar sightings in Chicago’s North Shore suburbs

Winnetka tracks cougar sighting

By Lisa Black and John P. Huston, Chicago Tribune reporters

Cougars are elusive, wide-roving creatures that rarely pause for photographs.

But after the most recent sighting of a large cat on the North Shore — this time in Winnetka — a wildlife control specialist on Wednesday installed cameras throughout the community in hopes of confirming its existence. Authorities also sifted the sand traps at a Winnetka golf course for signs that it had been used as a giant cat litter box.

The presence of a cougar prowling the lakefront communities is “absolutely possible,” said Robert Erickson, the DeKalb wildlife specialist hired by Winnetka to track the animal, also known as a mountain lion.

There have been confirmed cougar sightings in the Midwest over the past few years, but they remain rare.

“I don’t have high hopes, just because the animal normally doesn’t stay put,” Erickson said, adding that cougars can travel up to 18 miles a day. “That cat could be in Grant Park by now for all we know.”

The recent Winnetka sighting was at 8:30 p.m. Monday, reported by a family driving east on Willow Road, just east of the Skokie River. They told police that a long, sleek animal was on the parkway between the street and the sidewalk, said Joe Pellus, Winnetka deputy police chief.

“They saw an animal they hadn’t seen before, and they knew by the way it looked and walked that it wasn’t a coyote,” Pellus said.

Winnetka officials contacted the Illinois Department of Natural Resources before contracting with Erickson, who is licensed by the state as a wildlife expert.

There have been several cougar reports on the North Shore this summer. A Glencoe public safety officer reported seeing one in late July, and Northfield fielded a similar report from a resident in June, according to authorities.

None of the sightings has been confirmed.

“The first step is to just document whether there is an animal in the area,” said Bob Bluett, a wildlife biologist with the Department of Natural Resources.

“There have been an increasing number of documented appearances in Missouri and Iowa and other Midwestern states, all linked to a population in the Dakotas,” Bluett said. “The ecology of the animal is such that when a population pretty much gets saturated, the young males will take off and pioneer into new areas and can make some long-distance movements.”

Erickson put it more colorfully: “I would assume this is a 2-year-old male that kind of got tired of where they were and got booted out by mom. They’re like teenagers in trouble.”

In 2008, scientists verified through DNA tests that a male cougar shot in Chicago was related to animals from the Black Hills of South Dakota, raising the possibility that it journeyed 1,000 miles. Before showing up in Chicago, the same cougar had been spotted a few months earlier in a barn in southern Wisconsin, where it left a bit of blood that was tested and matched.

A cougar would find abundant food and shelter within the forest preserves, thick with deer and cover, authorities said. The experts also suggested that the animal might not need to kill its prey, given that many deer this year have died of a virus called epizootic hemorrhagic disease, or EHD.

The virus is not passed from animal to animal, so the cougar would not catch the disease by eating a sick deer, officials said.

The dead or dying deer could offer “a food source for the mountain lions that is very easily acquired,” said Katie Sweeney, animal control officer for Glencoe.

Officials have found no paw prints or other evidence of a cougar in Winnetka. They said it likely would have crossed through golf courses during its travels, but authorities have found no scat in sand traps.

Erickson installed motion-triggered infrared trail cameras that can shoot multiple photographs, then send them to his cellphone and computer, “which I will be monitoring all night,” he said.

Officials have no plan for what they would do with a cougar if they found one.

“In general, we don’t advocate killing an animal that’s not causing trouble, but by the same token we realize a community is in a better position to assess risks than someone sitting in Springfield,” said Bluett, the state wildlife biologist.

The animals are not protected by wildlife laws in Illinois, he said.

Country musician Charlie Daniels schools Rahm Emanuel, Thomas Menino, and Barack Hussein Obama

Preach it, brother!

From his blog:

…Dan Cathy’s convictions have been known for a long time, he doesn’t even allow his brand to open for business on Sunday in accordance with his beliefs in observing the Sabbath, and since his remarks about same-sex marriage do not come as a surprise to anybody with a modicum of gray matter, why all of a sudden are the mayors of major American cities in an uproar about it?

Do you think that drawing attention away from the murder rate on the streets of Chicago, that Emanuel doesn’t seem capable of doing anything about, have anything to do with it?

It’s an old political trick that Bill Clinton developed into an art form and Barack Obama’s whole 2012 campaign is based on. When you have big problems you can’t deal with, you point attention at anything other than your own shortcomings. It’s called the tail wagging the dog.

But this time they’ve hit a nerve, walked into a fastball they didn’t see coming as hundreds of thousands of Americans went out of their way to show their support and admiration for someone who would stand up for something they believe in and their distaste for out of touch, big city mayors who don’t respect anything that don’t agree with them.

Mr. Emanuel, Mr. Menino and your ilk, let’s see you go to a mosque and denounce the Muslim businessmen for their disapproval of same-sex marriage.

I double dare you.

What do you think?

WND: Charlie Daniels unloads ‘dag-blamed truth’ on Obama

(h/t: Brookly Red)

Feisty music legend worries after November, ‘America will never be America again’

“There’s a move afoot to change life in America into a totally European – I’ve heard that so much I’m getting sick of it: ‘European’ – socialist thing,” says country-music legend Charlie Daniels, “but it’s the dag-blamed truth [sic], and it don’t work, it never has worked, and if America goes that way, America will never be America again.”

Daniels told WND in an exclusive interview that he expects 2012, with the nation’s very identity on the line, will be “the biggest election we have ever had.”

“In my 75 years on Earth, it’s never been as clear-cut as it is now,” Daniels said. “We’re either going to go into socialism, where part of the people work and the rest of them don’t, and the ones that do will be taxed to death, or – I got the point where I don’t trust politicians anymore, but hopefully – the other side represents, ‘Let’s put America back to work; let’s re-instill the work ethic back in people.’”

Since the 1950s Daniels has been a country singer and famed fiddler, perhaps best known for his hit song “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” He was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2008.

But he also writes frequently on culture and politics, no stranger to bold statements in defense of God and country, and maintains a “soapbox” blog on his website, CharlieDaniels.com.
[…]
Daniels told WND there have been a few people who have tried to silence him, too, to tell him to stick to his music and leave politics alone.

“People say, ‘Shut up and sing.’ Somebody said that,” Daniels said. “But shut up for what? Why don’t you shut up? What do you do? You do something else. You’re a private citizen. Do you think you should shut up? I’m speaking as a private citizen, so I think I have a perfect right to do that.”

And what about the owner of Chick-fil-A Dan Cathy and other Christians like him who are told to leave their religious beliefs out of the public and political sphere?

“That’s a bunch of junk,” Daniels said. “They need to stand up for what they believe in.”

What Happens When Big Brother Meets Chicago Thugs.

Filed under Barack Obama, Communism, Democratic Party, Fascism, Liberal Fascism, Marxism, Progressives at May 14th, 2012 - 2:00 pm

This one is more than a little creepy, so bear with me. After you read the article, which I found on Hotair, we’ll discuss it in a broader sense than just a bunch of 8 year old children being asked by the State to rat out their parents in New Jersey. Before anyone points out to me that the Governor of New Jersey is a Republican and would be considered by some to be an actual conservative, let me destroy that rebuttal now. Chris Christie is Governor, but the apparatus that he won the right to manage has been built by a Democrat power structure that has been in place for decades. The Education system in America has been the province exclusively of the most committed leftists in this country since the early 1970’s, and this has been true regardless of who has occupied the White House.

For context, some appropriate quotations from our Constitution:

AmendmentI.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of
religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging
the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right
of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the
Government for a redress of grievances.

AmendmentIV.
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses,
papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and
seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue,
but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affi rmation,
and particularly describing the place to be searched,
and the persons or things to be seized.

From the article:

Seriously now, how hard is to write questions for third-graders that don’t (a) address creepy topics like cannibalism, (b) ask how many slaves it would take to pick an orchard clean, or (c) intrude on their and their family’s privacy by asking them to write about a secret they had trouble keeping? The answer obviously is (d) very.

Choices a and b were the stuff of math homework assignments earlier this year in schools in D.C. and Georgia, respectively, while c appeared on a statewide standardized test in New Jersey just this week. The test, given to 4,000 students, was a dry run for the Garden State’s Assessment of Skills and Knowledge.

snip:

The Associated Press quotes Susan Engel, a lecturer in psychology and director of the teaching program at Williams University, who said the question isn’t troubling to her:

Asking about secrets is a good way to get children to write, she said. And, she said, children at that age are unlikely to say something that would offend their families, or even bare their own souls. ‘I think by and large, kids are not going to tell a real secret,’ she said.

That reaction begs the question of what to do in the case where children do reveal real secrets—and closely guarded ones at that.

With absolutely no respect to Susan Engel, this has nothing to do with teaching children the basic skills of writing. There would literally have to be thousands of better suited topics for the purposes of getting kids to open up and strut their creative stuff. What I did on my summer vacation always seemed to be a good topic to get the kiddies writing. This has everything to do with getting children to feel comfortable with the concept of ratting out their parents. It has everything to do with getting kids to feel more comfortable confiding in the State and the representatives of the State than with their own families.

As creepy as all of this is, it pales in comparison with the prospect of having a man like Barack Hussein Obama put in charge of a Big Brother apparatus poised to take complete control of America. You may think I am being a little hysterical here, and perhaps I am. It’s just that we already have real live examples of this being played out right now. Barack Obama personally threatening Romney campaign donors with IRS audits and worse is nothing more than old school Chicago style thuggery in action. What’s new about it, is that now it is coming from the White House itself, and not just Mayor Daley’s office in the Windy City.

Richard Nixon had an enemies list as well, and he paid a heavy price for it. He lost the respect of much of the nation, and deservedly so. He was lambasted in the media for it, and deservedly so. There is one major difference between Richard Nixon’s enemies list, and the current version being kept by Barack Obama. Richard Nixon, who was known for his paranoia, kept a list of enemies whom he thought were in fact enemies to the national security of the United States. Barack Obama is keeping a list of people who are enemies to his electoral prospects. While Nixon’s list was probably reflective of that as well, he at least attempted to rationalize it in his own mind. He felt he was doing the right thing, for the benefit of the nation. Barack Obama hasn’t the encumbrance of believing in or caring one wit about our nation. His list is simply meant as a means to create harassment for people who would help to seek his ouster come November, which is a protected right of every American Citizen as guaranteed by the First Amendment.

What should frighten us all however are these two stories combined. Think for one moment of the prospect of your children being asked in their schools to let the public sector union teachers know in advance which of their parents are contemplating financial support of someone opposing Barack Obama’s reelection bid for his 7th term as President. Then the phone call comes from the office of his Unity Czar, Van Jones, very subtly laying out your options in the pay to play life we all will be subjected to. “Nice family you got there, it would be a shame if your allotment of health care units would be cut in half. If your wife for example should meet with an accident, you might not have enough units to get her the treatment she needed.”

The problem with the above paragraph of course is that most of it has either been passed into law already, or put into actual practice by various bureaucracies. The only thing missing from the unfortunately already possible scenario would be Obama’s ability to serve more than 8 years as President. But if you had asked me 20 years ago if we Americans would be willing to give up our entire cadre of Constitutional Freedom for an empty promise of Hopety Change, I would have sworn that you were nuts. If this was possible, than yes certainly repeal of the 22nd Amendment would also be possible.
