This is a test of the Emergency Blogmocracy Network. We’re testing to see how long this thread runs WITHOUT directly mentioning you-know-who, his website, or any of the commenters over there. This is only a test.
We now return you to the regularly scheduled post, already in progress, i.e., The Overnight Open Thread.

The Davis Manufacturing Company

The Davis Manufacturing Company in 1925 looked innocuous enough, hawking drugs and *ahem* spices. They were still in business in 1963, and produced this curious ad:
So, um, if it’s hard to beat your meat, praise Allah? No wonder the kid in the weenie hat is interested. [Insert more off-color snarkage here.]
The one prophetic detail that really stands out is the little jet airplane on his epaulet. I ran a tineye search, and turned up just two hits, both of which showed the plane, and both sites questioned whether it had been photopooped. I can’t tell, but if the ad ran in 1963, it’s likely a hoax, as the first DC-9 passenger jet didn’t fly commercially until 1965.
Images from here and here, and here is the Overnight Open Thread.
[Update: Bill Jenkins deBunked my ignint assumption.
“The image on the clothing is definitely not a DC-9 which has 2 rear-mounted engines. A 707 would have the correct look and most certainly flew in that era.”
Good catch.]
[Update: Bill Jenkins is now officially as clueless as I am. It might be a DC-8.]
