The past week or so felt exactly like this. Now it feels exactly like that. It’s a yin-yang kinda thang these days, especially on The Overnight Open Thread.

Nancy

Ernie Bushmiller’s Nancy was probably the first counter-culture icon, influencing many a future pothead with it’s blatantly surreal visions. This comic strip, featuring the ubiquitous girl with spiky comma-shaped hair and period eyes,  was wildly successful despite having no humor whatsoever.

Cartoonist Scott McCloud appreciated Nancy so much that he created a card game appropriately entitled Five Card Nancy:

1. Making the Deck

Find a reprint book of Nancy comic strips. Photocopy a good portion of the book onto white card-stock (with permission of course), and cut up the copies so that you end up with lots of small rectangles of paper, each containing only one Nancy panel. They should all be the same height. It’s a good idea to make a few extra “transition” panels (like a wordless panel of Nancy walking, Nancy smiling, Nancy in silent contemplation, etc…)

The Complete Rules of Play can be found here, and it appears that to really appreciate the game you should be smoking something illicit, or at least drinking heavily.
