Gary Johnson switches to the Libertarian Party

Former New Mexico governor has switched to the Libertarian Party.

Gary Johnson switched his registration to Libertarian and kicked off his campaign for the party’s nomination for president Wednesday at a news conference in Santa Fe.

“I’m doing this today because this is an agenda that I think resonates with most Americans, and it’s an agenda that’s not being addressed by either party,” Johnson said at an event in front of the state capitol building he presided over for two terms as governor. “I think we have a unique opportunity in this country to actually fix the problems that face us all, but it’s not going to be business as usual.”

[….]
“We are just fed up with the two party system. The Democratic Party, I think, has turned their backs on gay rights, marriage equality, their anti-war base, their anti-drug war sentiment,” he said. “… Republicans are no longer the stewards of the pocketbook. Republicans are no longer good stewards of tax dollars.”

“I have been a Republican my entire life,” he said. “I don’t view this as leaving the Republican Party as much as the Republican Party has left me.”

Gary Johnson has expressed what many people feel. The Republican and Democratic Parties are both beholden to sub groups and special interests. Neither of the 2 are adressingthe needs to the nation.

Gary Johnson to run for President and Allen West calls Obama 3rd World

Former New Mexico Governor, Gary Johnson, has announced he will run for President. He represents the Libertarian Wing of the GOP. He believes in free markets, fiscal Conservatism, legalizing weed, legalized prostitution and civil unions. Our good friend Rancher and many others say he was the best Governor of New Mexico. Clearly he will be competing with Ron Paul for the idealistic Libertarian vote.

Seventeen years and six months ago, Gary Johnson announced that he was running for governor of New Mexico. His leadership experience? He’d only ever run his Albuquerque construction business; he’d never run for office before. He looked, in other words, like the sort of candidate who runs for office on a lark, gets pulverized, and goes back to building ranch houses.

The joke was on them—twice. Johnson won, and Republicans won enough seats to sustain his vetoes. And he vetoed everything. In eight years in office, he vetoed 750 bills. In his second term, he came out for legalizing and regulating marijuana. He was the most libertarian governor in America, no contest. He was the Tea Party more than a decade before the idea occurred to Rick Santelli.

On Thursday, on the steps of New Hampshire’s state capitol, Gary Johnson will announce that he’s running for president. It’s a pretty safe bet that you’re not aware of this. Only 14 percent of Republicans have the faintest idea of who he is. Half of them don’t like him. The original Tea Party candidate starts his presidential campaign pretty close to zero.

I support Gary Johnson’s right to run. The GOP is supposed to be the party of the Free Market. Well let us be the Party of the Free Market of ideas. I am not supporting Johnson, but I wish him success in debating his ideas and I hope others join in!

This proves the Right is not monolithic.

Update: Rep LTC. Allen West (R-FL) called Obama a 3rd World Dictator.

“What you continue to see is a third world dictator-like arrogance, that’s what I saw in that speech last week. And look, Laura, to borrow a phrase from Reverend Jeremiah Wright, the chickens are coming home to roost. . . . This whole talk about shared prosperity I mean that really gives me the goosebumps because I’m starting to believe that a community organizer is nothing but a low-level socialist agitator.”

As we all know, I have been comparing Obama to 3rd World Liberation dictators for a better part of 2 years. I wonder Allen West has been reading this blog? Either way, his comparison is spot on.
