No, they didn’t have blogs back then, but they had media. Big ‘ol honkin’ media that would take your head off if you dared to argue contrary opinions not approved by the blogmeister.

Digital Library of the Real Jardin Botanico of Madrid has Pierre Sonnerat‘s Voyage aux Indes orientales et a la Chine.

BTW, that’s Vishnu in the picture. Don’t piss him off, especially not here, because it’s time for The Overnight Open Thread.

3 Bombs explode in Mumbai

3 bombs exploded in Mumbai’s business district today. They were set off during rush hour to try and kill as many as possible.

Three separate explosions tore through a business district in India’s Mumbai Wednesday, leaving at least 10 people dead and over a dozens injured, NDTV.com reported. The country’s Home Ministry reportedly confirmed a terrorist attack and placed the entire city on high alert.

The blasts hit the crowded Dadar neighborhood, the famed jewelry market Jhaveri Bazaar and the busy business district of Opera House, an official at the city’s Police Control Room said. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of office policy.

The explosions happened around 7 p.m., when all the neighborhoods would have been packed with office workers and commuters.

Pakistan is the culprit here since they support Islamic terror groups against India. We should ally with India and dump Pakistan.

It’s time for a US-India alliance

The US has for too long been allied with Pakistan. This stems from Cold War-era politics. India under Nehru and then Indira Gandhi was part of the Non aligned/3rd World movement. They were de facto allies of the Soviets and because of this the US supported Pakistan.

Time have changed and Pakistan is in the Islamist camp. They harbored Bin Laden and many top AL-Qaeda leaders are there. The Pakistani ISI supports terror against India. That nation, actually should be a natural ally. Just like America, it is a secular Republic where freedom of region is guaranteed. India is now a free market economy and rapidly rising in the world. Their Bollywoofd movies are watched all over the world. They are a natural fit for us as friends.

Yesterday, Pakistan’s top military officer, General Ashfaq Kayani, said his country would not tolerate any more U.S. raids like the one on Sunday that killed Osama bin Laden. Furthermore, the Army chief said any more violations of Pakistani sovereignty would “warrant a review on the level of military/intelligence cooperation with the United States.”

It’s high time Washington review Pakistan’s cooperation. In short, America should end its special relationship with Islamabad and fully partner with India. The reason for this fundamental shift became fully evident when American forces killed bin Laden in his purpose-built fortress in the army garrison city of Abbottabad. The al Qaeda leader’s compound was eight times the size of neighboring houses, had few windows but lots of barbed wire, and was on flat terrain, visible from all directions. The place had an 18-foot wall but no Internet or phone connections. When children played soccer nearby, guards paid them to take their pick-up matches elsewhere. The bin Laden family had been living there since 2005.

Why we don’t have a closer relation with India is beyond me. As someone who works with Indians, I cam tell you they re great people. They lived under the Islamic yoke for many centuries and under stand the threat of Dr Al Islam. They love freedom and are a tolerant people. It’s time to dump Pakistan and join forces with India!

Losing India

It is sad to see the United States government show such disrespect to the world’s largest democracy India. India is a nation that is fighting its own war against Islamic terrorists and the relationship between the two nations needs to be much cozier. India also is a natural ally to the United States. Unfortunately  our commander-in-chief seems to have a great deal of affection for Pock-ee-stan (probably  because it is an Islamic nation). The Pakistani Intelligence Services (the ISI) is loaded with Taliban and al Qaeda sympathizers. I’ve noticed that Obama has not even visited India yet even though he was nearby in Afghanistan.

Some people weren’t at all surprised to see a Pakistani- American trained in Pakistan terrorist camps trying to blow up Times Square. These are the families of the 173 killed in the Mumbai bombing two years ago — and those of a Pakistan-linked bombing in Puna that killed 17 in February.

What New Yorkers were spared, Indians have been suffering for years. Indeed, authorities in New Delhi are still waiting to question another Pakistani-American, David Coleman Headley, a plotter of the Mumbai bombing who’s being held in Chicago — although the Obama administration has been slow to act on their request.

In fact, Obama’s feckless approach to cooperation in the War on Terror has been steadily driving a wedge between the United States and the world’s other big democracy. The partnership with India that George w. Bush carefully built is in shambles — jeopardizing our future in Asia.

One wedge issue is Obama’s deceptively cozy relationship with Pakistan. What the Pentagon and the media trumpet as Pakistan’s new “cooperation” in fighting the Taliban, Indian experts see as simply one jihadist wing of Pakistan’s secret service (the ISI) surreptitiously taking out the others, with our Predator drones doing the shooting.

New Delhi fears Obama is being duped into preparing the way for Pakistan’s domination of neighboring Afghanistan once the US withdraws — and effectively facilitating more terror bombings like Mumbai or those in Afghanistan that have killed more than 100 Indians working there, not to mention more Times Square attempts in this country.
