machinegun

guest post by: Iron Fist

There she is, Miss America…er, well, not exactly. This is the new XM806/LW50MG light-weight .50 machinegun, slated to begin deployment in 2012. Although it is not to replace the old and loved M-2 Browning, a weapon that has fought in every American war since WWII, it is to be a complement that can serve in some of the same roles (vehicle/aircraft mounted weapon, crew served point defense weapon) while also taking on roles that the M-2 simply is not suited for. Firing the same round, but drastically lighter in weight, this weapon can be carried into the combat zone, quickly assembled, and begin raining death down on the enemy for a lighter weight load than the receiver group of old Ma Duce. It even has lower recoil, and a significantly lower rate of fire. This will help with accuracy, which makes up for the slower rate of fire. One problem with machineguns is they eat ammunition, as you can’t miss fast enough to catch up. Fewer but more accurate rounds downrange means it is a more efficient fighting platform.
