Congressman Aaron Schock’s office targeted in Illinois terror plot

Here’s a little reported fact about the Paul Findley/Talib Islam arrest for plottting to commit terrorist acts – the offices of a Republican member of Congress were a secondary target,

Details emerged Thursday of 29 year old Michael Finton’s attempt to detonate a truck bomb outside of the Paul Findley Federal Building in Springfield.  Among Findley’s target of the bombing were the federal courthouse and the offices of first-term Illinois congressman Aaron Schock.

Finton, also know as Talib Islam, was arrested Wednesday by federal officers after he attempted to utilize a cell phone to detonate an truck bomb outside the courthouse.  The arrest of Finton, follows a 2-year investigation by the FBI, including undercover operations enacted when Finton reached out for assistance.

In the 25 page criminal complaint filed Thursday, authorities outlined 2 years of activities and planning pursued by the 29 year old who was converted to Islam while in prison.  Included in the affidavit was the disclosure that Finton received funds from a source in Saudi Arabia, and after spending a month in the nation in 2008 expressed a desire pursued plans to launch a terrorist attack upon the United States.

[snip]

The criminal complaint further alleges that Congressman Schock’s office, adjacent to the attempted detonation zone was a secondary target.  In a statement released by Representative Schock on Thursday, he stated, “my office was notified today of the attempted terrorist attack on both the federal building and my congressional office in Springfield.  I am incredibly grateful to the FBI for their fine work in preventing this terrorist attack”.   Schock’s office declined to make further comments citing the ongoing investigation.

Now, I wonder why on earth a radical Muslim terrorist would include the offices of a conservative Republican Congressman on his list of collateral targets?  Could it be because he realises that conservative Republicans (as well as other conservative/libertarian types) are a hindrance to the imposition of Islam onto America?

As an aside, if I really wanted to play the sort of petty “six degrees of insinuation” game that nosnhoJ selrahC specialises in, I’d point out that a Muslim trying to bomb the office of a conservative Republican –> radical Muslims not liking conservative Republicans –> conservative Republicans are usually Christians, creationists, etc. –> selrahC not liking conservative Republicans, Christians, creationists, etc. –> meanwhile, selrahC tells us that Islamic jihad is no longer a threat –> therefore, selrahC sides with terrorists.

But we all know that’d be ridiculous, right?

OUR TIME HAS COME
September 25, 2009

Well color me skeptical of their claims. From my experience they tend to say one thing while doing the opposite. Just like President Hussein. And I can recall the Qur’an forbidding Moslems from befriending Christians and Jews, unless they become one of us, the sons of apes and pigs. How they rectify that I don’t know.

Now you can bet their idea of “working for the greater good of all people” is vastly different then yours and mine. Me and you don’t consider Sharia law to be for the greater good, matter of fact we know it works for the lesser good. Show me just one Islamic country under Sharia law that is not considered human rights violators, by our higher moral standards.

They murder gays, they consider women property and deny them all rights that every American woman enjoys, they murder apostates, they don’t allow freedom of religion. etc.. etc..

They expect or hope for 50,000 Moslems to be there.

UK foundation to distribute textbook that lauds Muslim world’s scientific and cultural heritage

This sounds like a great idea!  But honestly, how many pages can you devote to the invention of the electric prayer rug before it gets monotonous?

An educational foundation in the UK has announced plans to distribute to high schools a free book that highlights the scientific and cultural legacies of Muslim civilization.

1001 Inventions: Muslim Heritage in Our World is the creation of the Foundation for Science Technology and Civilization (FSTC), a Manchester-based organization set up to raise awareness of the contributions of the Muslim world to modern civilization.

FSTC said the contribution that Muslim and other civilizations have made to the modern world has been widely overlooked and that its team of academics has focused on debunking the myth of the so-called “Dark Ages of Civilization.”

“The period between the 7th and 17th centuries – which has been erroneously labelled ‘the Dark Ages’ – was in fact a time of exceptional scientific and cultural advancement in China, India and the Arab world,” Prof. Salim Al-Hassani, chief editor of the book, said.

“This is the period in history that gave us the first manned flight, huge advances in engineering, the development of robotics and the foundations of modern mathematics, chemistry and physics.”

In a technical sense, the book is correct – between the 7th and 17th centuries, there was scientific advancement in China, India, and the Arab World.  Unfortunately for the integrity and honesty of this book’s publisher and promotors, nearly all of that advancement was in China and India.  Nevertheless, the overall premise is simply shoddy.  Robotics?  Manned flight?  Suuuuuure.   While the Muslim world did make some contributions to fields such as optics, chemistry, and mathematics (and they DID, let’s be fair), the al-taqiyya represented here reaches ridiculous proportions.

Further, we should note that for the period between the 7th and 17th centuries in Europe, it is equally erroneous to call these “the Dark Ages.”  Of course, from the 15th century on, Europe was having its own Renaissance, and had already far outstripped the Muslim world intellectually.  But even in the earlier part of the Middle Ages, Europe was advancing in science and culture as much as the rest of the world.  Medieval Europe saw advances in mathematics, physics (especially mechanics and ballistics), engineering, astronomy, and navigation (the technology for Columbus to sail across the Atlantic didn’t appear out of nowhere….)  European construction technology was far superior to that of the Islamic world in the High Middle Ages (12-13th centuries), enabling the Europeans to produce huge and intricate castles and cathedrals that the Muslims could not have begun to match.   Europe led the way in early industrialisation, too.  In the 13th century, London had enough productive industry that it already suffered from air pollution caused by the burning of wood for fuel in forges and other industrial concerns.

In fact, Europe’s problem in the Middle Ages was not that it was backwards and behind the times – instead, the problem was that the continent was so politically divided that Europeans were unable to project significant power beyond the confines of their own continent until they reached the point where they had a decisive enough technological advantage that small numbers of them could defeat much larger non-European forces.

Basically, this book represents two seemingly contrary trends in Islamic apologetics that nevertheless seem to converge quite frequently – the attempt to put across the superiority of Islamic culture historically, but doing so in a way that essentially submits Islamic culture and history to the confines of Western ideas of progress and goodness.  Even when lying to downgrade Western contributions at the expense of their own, the Muslims still have to define themselves by Western ideals.  Even in “winning”, they lose.

And really, if you think about it, I don’t see why they think this book would be helpful to their cause.  As anyone can see, the Muslim world today is one of the most backwards, kleptocratic, corrupt regions on the face of the earth.  What does it say about their civilisation’s long-term competency if it can go from having magical robotic manned flight back in the Middle Ages and being the supposedly premiere culture in the world, to having a combined gross national product among its 57 members that is less than that of the Great Satan alone, and being unable to maintain a functioning cellular service without the Great Satan’s technicians?

Maybe He Could Set Up an Atheist Summer Camp for Them

From the guy who wanted to set up that creepy summer camp where he could affirm atheist kids in their social autism, comes the astoundingly presumptious notion that simply by simply translating his books in Arabic, the Islamic world will convert to evolutionismProfessor Richard Dawkins Wants to Convert Islamic World to Evolution

The author of The God Delusion and The Selfish Gene, whose new book, The Greatest Show on Earth, is serialised in The Times next week, has topped bestseller lists all over the world but never in a predominantly Muslim country.

None of Professor Dawkins’ books, on evolution as well as religion, has ever been translated into Arabic, and his work has been heavily censored in Turkey. In an interview with The Times, he said that popularising evolution in the Islamic world, where creationist beliefs are strong, was a challenge he is keen to take up. “To be a bestseller in a Muslim country would be a personal triumph,” he said.

“I would like to see my books translated into Arabic. They haven’t been. They are all translated into Hebrew. Persian, I’m not sure. My books are translated into Turkish and they regularly get censored and suppressed.

“The experience of my Turkish publisher of The God Delusion was that he was threatened with arrest for blasphemy. He may even have been arrested, and my website has been banned in Turkey. I feel amused really. There’s something to be said for being suppressed, it makes people want to read you.”

Talk about misplaced priorities.  Nevermind trying to get them to, you know, stop beheading people and setting off carbombs and stuff.  We have to get them all to believe in evolution.   Yeah, that’s the ticket.  Because nobody who believes in evolution ever beheaded anyone (….they just marched them into gas chambres by the millions).

What is with these nutters who don’t seem to care about the threat of Islamism, but they’ve all fired up that some kid might not believe that we evolved from sea cucumbers?

Good grief.
