Privacy: Vote with your wallet AND with your feet!

I found this link about a serious violation of privacy in the State of Michigan in a worrisome Blogmocracy article about another significant threat to our electronic privacy, namely Apple iPhone secretly records owners’ every move. It followed another article, Exiting Detroit, about the endless and evidently irreversible decline and fall of the city of Detroit. It sure looks as though there are fewer and fewer reasons to visit, do business in, or live in, Michigan, and more and more reasons to avoid the entire state.

Similarly, if Apple shows so little regard for their customers’ privacy, I would suggest buying from a competitor until such time as Apple changes its ways. Vote with your wallet and vote with your feet!

Michigan: Police Search Cell Phones During Traffic Stops

ACLU seeks information on Michigan program that allows cops to download information from smart phones belonging to stopped motorists.

The Michigan State Police have a high-tech mobile forensics device that can be used to extract information from cell phones belonging to motorists stopped for minor traffic violations. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Michigan last Wednesday demanded that state officials stop stonewalling freedom of information requests for information on the program.

ACLU learned that the police had acquired the cell phone scanning devices and in August 2008 filed an official request for records on the program, including logs of how the devices were used. The state police responded by saying they would provide the information only in return for a payment of $544,680. The ACLU found the charge outrageous.

A US Department of Justice test of the CelleBrite UFED used by Michigan police found the device could grab all of the photos and video off of an iPhone within one-and-a-half minutes. The device works with 3000 different phone models and can even defeat password protections.

“Complete extraction of existing, hidden, and deleted phone data, including call history, text messages, contacts, images, and geotags,” a CelleBrite brochure explains regarding the device’s capabilities. “The Physical Analyzer allows visualization of both existing and deleted locations on Google Earth. In addition, location information from GPS devices and image geotags can be mapped on Google Maps.”

The ACLU is concerned that these powerful capabilities are being quietly used to bypass Fourth Amendment protections against unreasonable searches.

“With certain exceptions that do not apply here, a search cannot occur without a warrant in which a judicial officer determines that there is probable cause to believe that the search will yield evidence of criminal activity,” Fancher wrote. “A device that allows immediate, surreptitious intrusion into private data creates enormous risks that troopers will ignore these requirements to the detriment of the constitutional rights of persons whose cell phones are searched.”

But that’s not all, folks!

Jury to decide if Pastor Terry Jones can protest outside the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn, Michigan. Last I checked, the First Amendment is not subject to jury disapproval.

Jury to decide if Pastor Terry Jones can Protest

Islam is a protected religion in America. It’s above criticism and anyone who speaks out gets called racist. Controversial Pastor Terry Jones wants to protest in front of a radical Mosque in Dearborn, Michigan. The town is preventing his right of assembly and now a Jury will determine if he can protest. That’s right, in America a jury will determine Terry Jones’ right to protest!

Dearborn— A jury on Friday will weigh whether a Quran-burning pastor can legally carry out plans that day to protest at the Islamic Center of America mosque.

Florida Pastor Terry Jones expressed frustration over the prospect this afternoon, telling 19th District Judge Mark Somers that “it will be a problem” if the trial stretches on so long that he can’t carry out the 5 p.m. demonstration against radical Islam. The trial before Somers is to begin about 8 a.m.

The issue is also being watched very closely by the ACLU of Michigan, which planned to have a representative in the courtroom today. The organization wants to make sure Jones’ First Amendment rights are not being violated, said ACLU of Michigan spokeswoman Rana Elmir.

Also today, Arab Community Center for Economic & Social Services Director Hassan Jaber issued a statement backing Jones’ right to protest — and residents’ right to criticize him.

“At ACCESS, we work to empower people to become fully engaged members of their community,” Jaber said.

I salute this Arab group and ACLU for being intellectually honest. Whatever one feels about Terry Jones, he has a right to protest. Dearborn, Michigan is a stronghold of Hizb’Allah supporters due to the large Lebanese Shia community. They can support their cause, what can’t Jones?

The following video I found at Jihad Watch.  The following explanation before the video comes right off the Youtube site.  Watch the whole thing!

This is a video of David Wood and Nabeel Qureshi asking questions at Arabfest, Dearborn. The date is June 21st, 2009. There was a booth at the festival which had a banner titled “Islam: Got Questions? Get Answers.” From their table, we picked up a pamphlet claiming that Islam promotes peace.  We noticed that it was full of poor logic and errors, so we decided to make a video refuting it. We went to the booth that gave us the pamphlet to give them the opportunity to defend their claims. Security, however, stepped in and forced us to turn off our camera.

Where is the mutual respect and understanding President Obama was talking about?  Oh, and don’t forget, Islam is a religion of peace!

Zoorotica program at Binder Park Zoo, Michigan

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Chocolate and flowers are nice, but this Valentine’s Day why not take your honey for a walk on the wild side?

“We’re going to talk about animal reproduction, the different animals here at Binder Park Zoo and their little quirks, different things that get them going to help them reproduce,” said Jenny Parnett of Binder Park Zoo.

It’s a Valentine’s Day date that’s sure to ruffle some feathers.

Binder Park Zoo says love birds are flocking to sign up for the Zoorotica program. From frolicking frogs to the love-lives of leopards, this will give you an intimate look at animal mating rituals.

The R-rated show lets you go where no zoo guests have gone before.

Tickets are sold out, but there is a waiting list. Just call the zoo office to add your name.

The following is from the Binder Zoo’s own advertisement for this event.

Experienced and unabashed staff will lead you on a tour exploring the sexual lives of animals. Biting, clawing, scratching and mid-air acrobatics, animals have a way of reproducing that can be beautiful and brutal at the same time! The love tour will end with hors d’oeuvres and a special DVD presentation. Each couple will receive a small gift to commemorate their experience! This is an adults only event and participants must be 21 years or older.

Looking for more? The Holiday Inn of Battle Creek is offering participants of the “ZOOROTICA” tour a special discounted overnight stay for $129. Other packages are available that include overnight room, late check out at 2:00pm, champagne or sparkling grape juice, rose petals on the bed, chocolate dipped strawberries, and dinner for 2 in the Cereal City Grill with a special Valentine’s menu.
