Don Van Vliet passed away yesterday, succumbing to multiple sclerosis at the age of 69.

Although his music was often hard on the ears, his artwork hard on the eyes, he was the embodiment of eccentricity. Much of his character stemmed from his childhood; his parents apparently left him unrestrained, left him to do whatever he wanted (including not attending school).

For those of you who never experienced the entertaining simplicity of this unique talent, there are numerous videos on the Utoobage to click on and listen to while we enjoy the latest installment of The Overnight Open Thread.

Princeton students protesting the sale of SABRA & Tribe hummus at a Philly supermarket as part of Israel Apartheid week (or is it month?). As YouTube poster brabon1 wrote: “I have never seen such a conglomeration of more unattractive women in my life“.

Greg Gutfeld, host of Red Eye, also points out that SABRA isn’t even a
product of Israel; the company started here in the US and was recently
bought by PepsiCo.

Anyway, the net result of dumb, anti-Semitic uggo’s riffing on Lady GAGA just made me want to go out and buy some SABRA and Tribe hummus for the first time in my life.

Hat tip/ David!
Update:  Speranza points out that SABRA is partially Israel-owned.

…and nine months later BowtieBoy had a baby, but he never found out who the child’s mother was.

The title of this thread comes from a cornball song by Red Ingle & The Natural Seven, featuring “The Main St. Choral Society.” A Spike Jones alumnus, Red Ingle’s greatest hit “Tim-Tayshun” featured the vocals of Cinderella G. Stump (Jo Stafford).

Cigareetes & Whusky made it to Number 4 on the charts in March of 1948, and was covered by a number of artists, including Sons of the Pioneers, Jim Croce, and The Muppets. We’re pleased to present this great piece of musical history on The Overnight Open Thread.

I want to thank all you folks who helped reseat the header beam over the stairs to the basement last Saturday night. When I went downstairs to bring up a fresh keg, the floor and wall were throbbing to the music, and not in a good way.

Coulda been very dangerous, so we reseated the header and installed drag straps and hold downs. We’ve moved the main sound system to the basement, and  installed a bar down there as well. We’re thinking of installing a dumbwaiter for nachos and poutines. Oh, yeah, there’s a new potty room right behind the bar counter.

Not pointing fingers at all, stuff like this happens. After all it’s an old house that was never designed for an Overnight Open Thread.
