Snarky comments usually come easy to me, until I run across something self-explanatory, like this. At least I hope it’s self-explanatory, because I can’t explain it – who knows what it means. Sometimes it’s better just to post and back away quietly, on The Overnight Open Thread.

Captain James Tiberius Kirk and his dilithium-powered toilet plunger with 4-dimensional crystalline scrubbing bubbles was no match for the tribbles clogging the septic system of NCC-1701. From Wiki:
“According to The Star Trek Encyclopedia, the registry number ‘NCC-1701’ was devised by Matt Jefferies, art director of the first Star Trek series, inspired by an old science fiction cover that Gene Roddenberry liked, with a starship flying through space. Jefferies, who was a pilot, based NCC on 20th century aircraft registration codes. In such 20th century usage, an ‘N’ first letter refers to an aircraft registered in the USA. A ‘C’ for a second letter refers to a civil aircraft. Jefferies added a second ‘C’, just because he thought it looked better.”
BFD. I might have cared about that kind of trivia as a teenager, but most of us grew out of it. Times change, and around here, the BFD trivia is referred to as

Lego has morphed into an absurdity, abandoning the building block basics for battery-powered gimmickry. To me, it’s as ridiculous as marketing liquid Play-Doh as paint, or selling Lincoln Logs as, um, Lincoln Logs.
Sure, the kid cobbled a mask together so he could terrorize two-year-olds in the McDonald’s ball pit, and I’ll give him credit for that. Unfortunately for him, one of his parents decided to embarrass their young prodigy for life by burning this image onto the unfailing memory of the internest forever.

There you go. The etymology of “Zima,” the alcoholic drink of douchebags.
To be honest, I admit that I tried Zima exactly twice in the early 90s, before I poured out the rest of the bottle and grabbed a can of Bud, just to stave off any latent woosification that could have crippled my rep.
If you’ve never experienced that awful alcopop, there’s one bottle in the back of the rec room refrigerator that was left behind after one of Mongoose’s liquor cabinet raids last year. We’re going to turn off the power for 5 minutes tonight, and anybody that wants to make off with it is encouraged to do so (DADT) on
