Time To Fork Over Some Quatloos OOT

When I saw these two pictures separately, I thought this is definitely worth a Meme. Never mind the separate pix, here’s the Meme:

For those keeping score, that creature on the right is Balok (the puppet that is), from the Original Star Trek 1st season episode “The Corbomite Maneuver.” And yes, that means that I fork over 10,000 Quatloos to The Osprey!

While I pay him, here’s The Overnight Open Thread!

RIP Leonard Nimoy (1931 – 2015)

One of America’s most iconic actors, Leonard Nimoy has passed away.

Leonard Nimoy, the sonorous, gaunt-faced actor who won a worshipful global following as Mr. Spock, the resolutely logical human-alien first officer of the Starship Enterprise in the television and movie juggernaut “Star Trek,” died on Friday morning at his home in the Bel Air section of Los Angeles. He was 83.

His wife, Susan Bay Nimoy, confirmed his death, saying the cause was end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Mr. Nimoy announced that he had the disease last year, attributing it to years of smoking, a habit he had given up three decades earlier. He had been hospitalized earlier in the week.

Live long and prosper Leonard Nimoy.

Last night on Facebook, one of my friends lamented that all he got was a blank screen when he went to a popular web site for CGI artists, Sci-Fi Meshes. So I went there and this is what I got:

I don’t know if this was the first time they got hacked…if it is, I guess the Mohammedans must have finally figured out that Star Trek takes place in the Future.
Winston Churchill was so right: No stronger retrograde force exists in the world.

Star Trek Themed OOT

Tonight’s Overnight Open Thread is a refreshing change of course for those who wonder just how the hell Khan escaped from the Earth in the first place…It is best seen in hi-res, but for those who would rather not, just sit back and enjoy.

Of course I downloaded the hi-res mp4 file, which is based on Greg Cox’s 2003 novel, The Eugenics Wars Vol. 2, and both this book and Vol. 1 does a great job in interweaving events from our timeline into the Star Trek setting…which is, thankfully, an alternate universe, but don’t tell the Trekkies that!
I once had these books on my old Palm Tungsten E PDA back in the day, and I suppose that once I get situated in my new apartment, I will go ahead and order these (and also the third volume, To Reign In Hell) for my iPad.
In summation, just to piss off those who crave the JJ Abrams version, there is only ONE Khan, and Ricardo Montalban is it!
