R.U.R. Genesis OOT

If you’ve ever wondered where the word “robot” comes from…someone is finally bringing that vision to film! Here is a standalone short film and sizzle reel at the same time:

The year is 1919. Somewhere in modern day Czech Republic, the soon-to-be acclaimed playwright Karel Čapek is creating his vision of the future: a ground-breaking sci-fi story called R.U.R., which would eventually become the inspiration for such masterpieces as Metropolis and Blade Runner. (Not to mention the modern Battlestar Galactica – Ed.)
In his version of the year 1969, genetically engineered workers inhabit the Earth. The perfect, made-to-order people – which would eventually become the basis for the concept of robots – are seen as lesser beings that lack basic human rights and provide a vehicle for commentary on modern politics, progress, and relationships.
Fast forward to today when award-winning writer/director James Kerwin looks back at Čapek’s look forward. His short film R.U.R.: Genesis presents a fresh yet faithful take on the classic sci-fi story. Set in an alt-history 1969, Kerwin masterfully combines Čapek’s surprisingly accurate predictions of future advances in biotechnology with the groovy go-go girl ’60s we know and love.

Ushering in tonight’s Overnight Open Thread is R.U.R. Genesis, which stars Chase Masterson (ST:DS9), Kipleigh Brown (Yesterday Was A Lie), and Vic Mignogna (Fullmetal Alchemist and Star Trek Continues):

Last night on Facebook, one of my friends lamented that all he got was a blank screen when he went to a popular web site for CGI artists, Sci-Fi Meshes. So I went there and this is what I got:

I don’t know if this was the first time they got hacked…if it is, I guess the Mohammedans must have finally figured out that Star Trek takes place in the Future.
Winston Churchill was so right: No stronger retrograde force exists in the world.

gorgo

1954’s Godzilla created the monster craze in the 50’s and 60’s. Many Japanese and American studious churned out cheesy Sci-Fi monster flicks to entertain audience. One of these was called Gorgo, which as a young kid I called it the British Godzilla. Like his Japanese brethren, this monster is a dinosaur that is released in the modern world. The film takes place in Britain and London is demolished by Gorgo.

In the final 70’s Godzilla film; the Terror of Mechagodzilla, there is a monster named Titanosouarus who is based on Gorgo. Here is Godzilla confronting the Gorgo clone.

Godzilla 2014 Trailer

Godzilla is now being re-imaged for a major motion picture in 2014. Unlike the 1998 despicable version, the 2014 keeps to the Japanese concept of Godzilla.

Rumors are there will be 2 other monsters in the film. Rodan maybe making an appearance? Personally I hope Godzilla’s nemesis in the movie is King Ghidorah who was a bad ass in both the 60’s/70’s and 90’s Godzilla series.
