The reason for the slow speed across Lake Ponchartrain is the fact that if there is a derailment, the chances are less that the train will end up in the drink. The train’s maximum speed in this video – given the schedule of 73 Miles in 60 Minutes – is 79 MPH, with the average speed of 72 MPH.”
