That’s my average week — 5 days one week, 4 the next. I’m trying to cut back some and get in a little later so I can get a little more sleep during the week.

/weekends are for making up the sleep debt

Taxing drinking water in California (Armstrong)

The total mismanagement and incompetence of government is just beyond description. The new California Governor Gavin Newsom presented his first state budget during a news conference, last week on January 10th, 2019. While he won bashing Trump over the illegal aliens because he cares so much for families, he could care less about how much of a burden the state imposes upon families. His new proposal to tax drinking water will impact everyone – not the rich they always point to. He is claiming to tax water to help the poor afford water. His the newly-released budge calls for the creation of a “safe and affordable drinking water fund” that would “enable the State Water Resources Control Board to assist communities, particularly disadvantaged communities, in paying for the short-term and long-term costs of obtaining access to safe and affordable drinking water.”

It’s like labeling the most abusive taking of our rights the “Patriot Act” whenever you need to hide the real abuse. He is calling the tax as suddenly necessary to ensure “safe” water. They paid for a study to show that 6 million Californians rely on water providers that violated state standards at some point in the last six years. The area impacted was Southern San Joaquin Valley and the Mojave Desert. Hey, that’s a great excuse to tax the entire state.

more on shaving (as covered in the previous thread):

    https://amgreatness.com/2019/01/16/the-return-of-classical-and-manly-shaving/

The straight razor (with strop) or even the safety razor is something a man can pass onto his son. It does not break. It is not cheaply made. The double-sided razors are exquisite even as the famous Feather razor blades sell for pennies on the dollar. The process of using a brush, water, soap (or shave cream), followed up by an alum block and aftershave (lotion or balm) is something that appeals to the gentleman. The reason for the rise of classical shaving equipment is not just because the shave is closer and better for the skin, but because it is manly and a civilized man does not reject his nature, he embraces it…
But, to be a gentleman means to inhabit the area in-between the extremes of a neutered male, and an uncivilized man. Mansfield writes, “virtue attaches to a being, a human being, as to what is best and to what is usual in him.” Being a gentleman does not mean rejecting one’s nature, it means to temporize our lesser angels while, at the same time, not denying who we are. The man who does not care for his soul or his appetite, becomes “bland, unexpressive creature of no interest or no significance.”

    a well written article.

OMG. I just got out of a mtg. Turned Rush back on and heard him say Trump just grounded Pelosi. She was due to take a trip to Brussels, Afghanistan and some other stops. Nope. Gov’t is shutdown. No military transport for YINZ.

    Grounded.

    Here we go

President Trump on Thursday hit back at Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for warning she may postpone the State of the Union address by scrapping her planned trip overseas.

In a letter to Pelosi, Trump told her that a congressional delegation trip she intended to take to Brussels, Egypt and Afghanistan, which he dismissed as a “public relations event,” is now “postponed.”

“We will reschedule this seven-day excursion when the shutdown is over,” Trump wrote. “I also feel that, during this period, it would be better if you were in Washington negotiating with me and joining the Strong Border Security movement to end the shutdown.”

The announcement appears to mean that Trump will refuse to provide military transportation for lawmakers to make the journey, which would have included a stop in a war zone.

Trump added, however, if Pelosi wanted to go ahead by flying commercial, “that would certainly be your prerogative.”

Every 6 mos we get a letter from the IRS saying we didn’t pay something or other. Like effing clockwork. (This is for the business, not our personal taxes.) This go-round, tho, it’s the state of Pennsylvania saying the business owes them money. Because even tho we’re in Virginia, some clients that pay us are in Penna.

One year the IRS came after us saying that we mis-paid because they said at the time I worked for the company. I didn’t, I was still in telecom. They have our returns, they can see the records. It was only when I dug thru my files and pulled our own copy that they backed off.

This is why we have an accountant. Because when some little pissant agent trying to make quota decides to come calling, we don’t have time for this garbage.

Former law enforcement officials called out socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) for using a violent sexual term on Wednesday in an interview that was published in The Washington Post.

Ocasio-Cortez complained in the interview that the media was “focusing on taking quotes out of context or manipulating them or making it seem as though I said things that I didn’t say.”

A few sentences later, she said, “So enjoy being exhausted for the next two years while we run train on the progressive agenda.”

The 29-year-old former bartender, who describes herself as “Alex from the Bronx,” used the term in the following exchange:

The Post: How did you feel when that hit yesterday?

Ocasio-Cortez: I was surprised and I was annoyed because it was a new tack. They’ve been for a very long time focusing on taking quotes out of context or manipulating them or making it seem as though I said things that I didn’t say. This was different in that it was an outright fraudulent thing. You can tell that they’re getting into hysterics because now you’re getting into my actual body, which is definitely crossing a level, definitely crossing a line.

I also think it’s encouraging because this is my sixth day in Congress and they’re out of all their artillery. The nude is supposed to be like the bazooka. “The probe exposes how personal distrust led the officer of the deck, Lt. j.g. Sarah Coppock, to avoid communicating with the destroyer’s electronic nerve center — the combat information center, or CIC — while the Fitzgerald tried to cross a shipping superhighway.

When Fort walked into the trash-strewn CIC in the wake of the disaster, he was hit with the acrid smell of urine. He saw kettlebells on the floor and bottles filled with pee. Some radar controls didn’t work and he soon discovered crew members who didn’t know how to use them anyway.

Fort found a Voyage Management System that generated more “trouble calls” than any other key piece of electronic navigational equipment. Designed to help watchstanders navigate without paper charts, the VMS station in the skipper’s quarters was broken so sailors cannibalized it for parts to help keep the rickety system working.”

In a fierce attack on Donald Trump, Pelosi’s deputy chief of staff, Drew Hammill, said the safety of the trip had been compromised due to “grave threats caused by the President’s action.”

“In the middle of the night, the State Department’s Diplomatic Security Service provided an updated threat assessment detailing that the President announcing this sensitive travel had significantly increased the danger to the delegation and to the troops, security, and other officials supporting the trip,” Hammill said in a statement. “This morning, we learned that the Administration had leaked the commercial travel plans as well.”

I didn’t hear anything about commerical flights. Did you? What commercial flights could they get to Afghanistan, btw? Or would they have to fly into Karachi and take Greyhound over the Hindu Kush?

I’d like to see that ‘middle of the night’ security threat assessment from the Diplo Sec guys too. I’ll bet whoever got dragged out of bed for THAT little bit of hissy-fit theater is thrilled. If the Bezos divorce hits Amazon stock, I’m gonna add that stock just for the buy-it-when-its-low hell of it, even tho it doesn’t belong to any sector I’m looking at

ace of spades kicks Jonah Goldberg square in the nads

Does “Jonah’s” article seem to be making the same point I did, which, by the way, was original when I made it? (But not when he made it.)

Does he seem to be using the same language?

    Even the same examples?

Yeah, because he didn’t write this piece. He merely remembered it.

This is plagiarism, and yeah, Jonah Goldberg read my article. Do I have to do a twitter search to find him referencing it?

I’d like an acknowledgement from NRO.

But tell me about #MuhPrinciples, Jonah.

Given that I’m the real author of this NRO piece, I think I’m going to have to demand the standard NR freelance article rate as payment, as well as a prominent “Adapted from an original piece by Ace of Spades” credit.

And I’m not kidding. This is plagiarism, straight-up. Pay me.

This is Ronan Farrow on the Buzzfeed story:

I can’t speak to Buzzfeed’s sourcing, but, for what it’s worth, I declined to run with parts of the narrative they conveyed based on a source central to the story repeatedly disputing the idea that Trump directly issued orders of that kind.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) this week revealed that Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) is her “shero.”

“Chairwoman Maxine Waters is a shero of mine,” Tlaib reportedly told Politico, adding that Waters has been “unwavering when it comes to holding corporations accountable.”

Waters was arguably the most vocal impeachment advocate in Congress before Tlaib arrived and, on her first day in Congress, vowed to “impeach the motherf**ker.”

Waters chairs the powerful House Financial Services Committee, and Tlaib is expected to get a seat on it.

After her “impeach the motherf**ker” remarks dominated news cycles, Tlaib revealed that Waters and Rep. Al Green (D-TX), who has also been incessantly making the case for impeachment, were actually “smiling” and telling her that they loved her “spirit.”

“I can tell you I’ve talked to a number of my colleagues, including Congresswoman Maxine Waters and Al Green and others who were very… smiling and telling me we love your spirit. We welcome it. Come to us if you ever need any help or advice,” Tlaib told a local Detroit news outlet. “And they agree that we need to impeach the president of the United States.”

Buzzfeed characterized the sources as ‘law enforcement’, which might make one think FBI/DOJ etc. But nobody in LE benefits from that story. Who does? Some people need to be isolated on an island where they can indulge in their totalitarian fantasies by their lonesomes. It’s difficult to fathom how people raised in a relatively free culture grow up to be tyrants. But here we are.

To comply with EAT-Lancet’s quarter-ouncer diet, the UK would all have to cut meat consumption by 80 per cent. As this will not be achieved voluntarily, the committee calls on politicians to move away from “soft end of the policy ladder” and instead work to “eliminate choice”.

They want more taxes on food and more advertising restrictions. They also propose “rationing on a population scale” and the “banning and pariah status of key products”.

In wealthy countries such as Britain, they say “a priority is to offer less than what is currently offered by reducing portions, choice, and packaging.”

California knows no bounds when it comes to radical LGBT activism. On Thursday, State Senator and Senate Judiciary Committee chair Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) announced that only “gender neutral” pronouns will be permitted during committee hearings.

“Our first order of business is to approve the committee rules. I’d like to note — in respecting the fact that we are now a state recognizing the non-binary designation as a gender — he and she, we are now merging them so we are using what my grammar teacher would have had a heart attack over: we are using the phrase ‘they’ and replacing other designations so it’s a gender neutral designation: ‘they’” announced the Democrat. “Basically, that’s the primary reforms and revisions to the committee rules.”

“In the spirit of gender neutrality for the rules of this committee, we now designate the chair as ‘they,’” Jackson corrected the record.

    The Saturday Night Joke

A Marine squad was marching north of Fallujah when they came upon an Iraqi terrorist who was badly injured and unconscious. On the opposite side of the road was an American Marine in a similar but less serious state. The Marine was conscious and alert and as first aid was given to both men, the Squad Leader asked the injured Marine what had happened.

The Marine reported, “I was heavily armed and moving north along the highway here, and coming south was a heavily armed insurgent. We saw each other and both took cover in the ditches along the road.

I yelled to him that Saddam Hussein was a miserable, lowlife scum-bag who got what he deserved.

He yelled back, “Barack Obama is a lying, good-for-nothing, left wing Commie who isn’t even an American.

So I said, “Osama Bin Laden dresses and acts like a frigid, mean-spirited lesbian!

He retaliated by yelling, “Oh yeah? Well, so does Nancy Pelosi!

And, there we were, in the middle of the road, shaking hands, when a truck hit us.

People were outraged including right leaning blogs. When I read the headline I thought ” little punks”
But when I looked at the video I saw it differently. I saw the Native American getting in the kids face chanting and
banging his drum. I saw the kid handling it well and the other kids taking it all in good spirits.

You are right about Phillips, he is an activist with a grudge.

The real unedited video was put out late last night including a 2 hour version. The kids were in the right, even to the point of thinking the natives were being fun at the beginning. The video has clips of the kids being told they need to “go back to europe” and called the descendants of gay romans and greeks. The POS with the drum is a long time false accuser and the rest of the group was trying to provoke a fight. They didn’t get it and the kids still got screwed over. Also the original video has been removed from Youtube 3 times that I know of and had to be reposted in other channels. Not sure if it was the original content creators or youtube itself. The press at this point has moved into blatantly criminal behavior with this story as there is no possible way at this point (considering everything that was found and posted last night) that they do not know the true story. The fact that they are continuing this narrative shows that the true crime in their minds is that the kids are the wrong skin color and are wearing the evil red hats.

Apparently the first group that started everything is called the “Black Hebrew Israelites”. In a reversal of all that is sane they are actually an anti-semitic group that is also strongly racist and homophobic. The video is carefully edited to eliminate all the footage of this groups provocation and the fact the natives came in and actually joined this hate group. (This group is so bad the SPLC actually had to label them a hate group even though they are leftists).

Here is the unedited two hour video that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt these kids are a credit to this country in their decorum and decency.

These kids were amazing in how well they kept it together. I don’t like to fight, but if I were in this situation someone would have been wearing a drum.

I agree, from the video the kids acted great. St first they thought that the old guy was being friendly.
Thrust tried to play along until the realized that the guy was not being friendly, but trying to provoke them.
There is a lot of speculation that there will be school expulsions. If it is my kid I lay down the law that you are not going to ruin my kids life to appease the lefty mob. If I got no sssurances I would lawyer up.

I think the good guys are winning. Jake Tapper has tweeted

.@reason: “Video footage strongly contradicts Native American veteran Nathan Phillips’ claim that Covington Catholic High School boys harassed him. The media got this one completely wrong,” writes @robbysoave

Is their school now going to apologize to them for throwing them under the bus? If not, it shouldn’t just be the leftists that the students go after.

That should have said, “If not, it isn’t just the leftists that the students’ lawyers go after.”

It looks like the tribal elders hustle is blowing back on him. This is an attempt to destroy a kids future.
This could get him expelled and make it tough to get accepted to a good college.
So he is a Native American, so what? He’s basically a race hustling grievance hustler. They claim that he is a
Vietnam vet. If true ( I have doubts) then thank you for your service. But that is not license to destroy a young man.
As I recall the Media didn’t like Viet Vets before.

Robert Barnes (Barnes Law) has tweeted to Ana Navarro to withdraw a tweet or else he’ll serve her.

Which tells me his services have been retained. I’ll see if I can find he tweet again.

He has responded in a letter and he sounds thoroughly decent.

Second reason for this manufactured story was to get the Buzzfeed embarrassment off the front pages and let the reporter off the hook. Unfortunately for them they just managed to compound one stupid move with another.

I don’t know the CJ Pearson person, but good on him. A junior is HS with more balls than the totality of the MSM

We’re getting new submissions every 30 seconds. Every member of the media who defamed, slandered, and doxxed the #CovingtonBoys on Twitter will be served.

Each and every tweet will be archived and turned over to the students’ legal counsel.
