Don’t have my Wuhan swab back, Mrs Coldwarrior is positive, I feel great…surgery on the blown shoulder next week…can’t go back to work until I get the swab results back, add that to pending W/C surgery on Wednesday, and well…I’m in covid jail. Made some excellent Stromboli on the new smoker today…putzed around the joint…made a great martini and had a nice cigar…I abide.

this is where i miss my 77 bronco with the lift kit. bt its ok, we’ve got a lovely old beater explorer outfitted just for snow. a waste you say, yeah… g’ma and pappap live in the middle of the snow belt and i’d rather not trash my benz or mrs coldarrior’s new ride trying to get in there versus a lake erie gale.

the lakes wont freeze over this year, all of the weather is coming out of the south / west this time instead of the north/northwest. this is what they guys predicted for the winter some sort of nina or some such

    We already knew this

Food shortages of meat, eggs, poultry, other commodities worsening in U.S. supermarkets amid new supply chain disruptions

But I did NOT know this

    In general, food in the U.S. is on a three-day supply chain;

i just wonder, are the dems trying to push the normal american voter into going for fascism? and i dont mean the left wing crap that hitler was into, but something akin to il duce or the falange were into like national syndicalist production and ‘religious’ nationalism.

One of the reasons I’ve said that I’d never live in a place like NYC. If something shuts down the transportation system (like an EMP, for instance) for more than 3 days, they have no food. I haven’t seen a lot of farming going on in Manhattan.

    https://www.marshall.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/breaking-sen-marshall-proves-fauci-lied-by-obtaining-previously-unpublished-financial-records/

U.S. Senator Roger Marshall today obtained Dr. Anthony Fauci’s previously unpublished financial disclosures from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The NIH released the documents to Senator Marshall after a HELP hearing earlier this week where Dr. Fauci misled the American people and said, “My financial disclosures are public knowledge, and have been so. It is totally accessible to you, if you want it. To the public.” Since the disclosures were not public, on Wednesday, Senator Marshall sent a letter to Dr. Fauci formally requesting his un-redacted financial disclosures by 5:00pm Friday, January 14th. In response, Dr. Fauci produced these previously unpublished documents.

“Dr. Fauci lied to the American people. He is more concerned with being a media star and posing for the cover of magazines than he is being honest with the American people and holding China accountable for the COVID pandemic that has taken the lives of almost 850 thousand Americans,” said Senator Marshall. “Just like he has misled the American people about sending taxpayers dollars to Wuhan, China to fund gain-of-function research, about masks, testing, and more, Dr. Fauci was completely dishonest about his financial disclosures being open to the public – it’s no wonder he is the least trusted bureaucrat in America. At the end of the day, Dr. Fauci must be held accountable to all Americans who have been suing and requesting for this information but don’t have the power of a Senate office to ask for it. For these reasons, I will be introducing the FAUCI Act so financial disclosures like these are made public and are easily accessible online to every American.”

    @ eaglesoars:
I’ve been keeping eyes on prices and stocking up on canned goods as they come on sale. Was in work today to grab a few small items, (I’ve been off for the past week taking care of the squire due to school closures), and ended up walking out with a picnic shoulder of pork for $25 CAD. I wept at the lack of storage at home. Wife went to Costco this week and picked up two boneless pork loin tubes for around $20. Needless to say the picnic shoulder is at least three to four times the size of the pork loins.

Everything else is just crazy expensive. Cheap bacon goes for about $7 for 350 grams, regular cuts start at over $10 a kilogram. Butter? looking at $6 a pound. Some sales aren’t even really a proper sale.

Had my smoking game upped a huge notch. Youngest brother sent me a probe kit with a wireless thermometer. Four probes, an injector and clips. Can get a true reading of the interior and constant readout on three cuts of meat. Used it on the Christmas turkey and it came out perfectly. Also smoked two batches of cheese when it was cold outside and now they are aging in vac sealed bags.

Next on my smoking agenda is Canadian bacon. Have some pork loin curing in the fridge currently to be smoked before freezing. Will be doing a cold smoke. Figure I will save a good chunk of change doing that.

oh, listen…i started on the smokers in 92 after i got out of the army. i had to drive to viginia from PGH to get one. this unit is my 4th? i still have my last beast, an ungodly heavy oklahoma joe side smoker…full on fire, smoke, and meat. i have that mapped out perfectly and can use it almost mindlessly. the drawback, if i want to do a brisket for a saturday party i have to man it all night friday night…ok when i was younger, but jeeze, i need to sleep!

so, a few years ago i got a pit boss vertical pellet smoker as proof of concept, yinz know, set it and forget it. well, i wrecked it after using it 3-4 days a week for 4 years. it wasn’t built for what i did with it.

so for christmas, my girls bought me the trump version of he pit boss horizontal pellet smoker, its YUGE and heavy!!! i’ve used it a few times but i’m not at the temp mapping accuracy that i need yet for an expensive piece of meat like a prime rib.

dude, i have several temp probe units, an IR gun, and this beast has 4 probes and wifi…it will get to 500F plus in 35F ambient.

i’m still learning how to use the reactor.

Google Executive in Charge of ‘Tackling Disinformation’ Becomes DHS Senior Leader

Jon Feere, who was the senior advisor to the director of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during the Trump administration, has raised concerns about the appointment.

“The Biden administration is fully aware that their anti-borders policies
are wildly unpopular, so their selection of a person who has spent her time
eliminating opinions online is certainly suspect,” Feere told The Epoch Times via email.

“She’s now playing a key role in the release of thousands of criminal aliens into our communities and will naturally see a lot of pushback on this horrific agenda,” he said.

“It wouldn’t be surprising to her see former Google colleagues help her out by expanding their definition of ‘anti-migrant’ and further stifling speech online,” he continued.

‘Grateful to Be Alive’: What We Know About the Synagogue Hostage Rescue

The authorities have identified the suspect, a British citizen, who was killed when the hostages at a synagogue in the Dallas-Fort Worth area were freed on Saturday night.

The F.B.I.’s hostage rescue team freed four hostages from a Texas synagogue on Saturday night after a harrowing day of threats, negotiations and prayers.

The suspect is dead, officials said, and his motives are still under investigation.

His motives are still under investigation? Seriously?

It’s snowing! Big, fat flakes, lovely.

This is a great article about the impracticalities of electric vehicles. Funny as hell, too. Well, if you like schadenfreude.

“If you’ve got cars coming into a petrol station, they would stay for an average of five minutes. If you’ve got cars coming into an electric charging station, they would be at least 30 minutes, possibly an hour, but let’s say its 30 minutes. So that’s six times the surface area to park the cars while they’re being charged. So, multiply every petrol station in a city by six. Where are you going to find the place to put them?”
    .
    .
In particular, the latest UK chargers will be pre-set to not function during 9-hours of peak loads, from 8 am to 11 am (3-hours), and 4 pm to 10 pm (6-hours). Unbelievably, the UK technology decides when and if an EV can be charged, and even allows EV batteries to be drained into the UK grid if required. Imagine charging your car all night only to discover in the morning that your battery is flat since the state took the power back.

    https://www.americaoutloud.com/the-electric-vehicle-scam/

Also, there’s some piece in WSJ about setting up solar panels in Scotland. Hubby was there once for 10 days. The sun was out for all of 4 hours.

Now, a research team co-led by a Brown University physicist has added a new discovery to the strange metal mix. In research published in the journal Nature, the team found strange metal behavior in a material in which electrical charge is carried not by electrons, but by more “wave-like” entities called Cooper pairs.

While electrons belong to a class of particles called fermions, Cooper pairs act as bosons, which follow very different rules from fermions.

End were all taught totally misleading theories that involved atoms looking like small solar systems with electrons orbiting the nucleus. This was total bunk and those who taught it knew since the early part of the 1900s that it was bunk. For crying out aloud they even taught us about the famous twin slit experiment which undercut what they were saying about electrons that looked like hard little ballbearings. When we asked how come…. we were a cunning bunch …. the conversation was immediately CHANGED!

    Sheesh…

I was lecturing kids from 4 P (as in A,B,C,D,E,F,G…… at Auckland Grammar year before last. They were the bottom of ALL pecking orders but they were able to hoist aboard the basics of Quantum theory, they realised that electrons were a manifestation of a probability wave, and we discussed where Hawking radiation came from around Black Holes. They were able to understand a whole lot as long as it was explained clearly and in basic language. Things like electricity doesn’t travel down wires but that wires acted like railway tracks that located an energy field in space. Electrons do NOT travel at the speed of light, in fact they are rather slow and drift slowly amongst the atoms of copper in the wire.

People REALLY underestimate kids and their ability to understand things that are assumed to be way beyond them.

    🙂

We used to fly through the curriculum stuff, so that we left time to go running barefoot through Astronomy Physics and chemistry going wherever the conversation and questions led us. The kids really loved these free ranging discussions and worked their butts off getting past the curriculum stuff, to leave time for our end of session period talks that ranged all over the place. Just throw in some subject and the questions and thoughts about where those questions came from and suddenly we were away, and the talk swept across huge slabs of science.

It was quite wonderful to see the 4P class kids (14 year olds) getting really excited using their brains and imaginations.

Michigan Democrats criticized after dismissing parents’ role in public education

The Democratic Party blasted the idea that parents should have a voice in what public schools teach, saying in a Facebook post over the weekend that public education teaches kids what society “needs them to know.”

A Saturday post made by the Michigan Democrats on their official Facebook page criticized the parents who want to play a role in what public education teaches their children. The post was deleted Monday morning after intense criticism.

“Not sure where this ‘parents-should-control-what-is-taught-in-schools-because-they-are-our-kids’ is originating, but parents do have the option to send their kids to a hand-selected private school at their own expense if this is what they desire,” the post read.

“The purpose of public education in public schools is not to teach kids only what parents want them to be taught,” the Michigan Democratic Party’s post continued. “It is to teach them what society needs them to know. The client of the public school is not the parent, but the entire community, the public.”

Fresh off the presses regarding the Aussie Tennis ……

    From Quadrant article….

    Immigration Minister Alex Hawke :
“I have given consideration to the fact that Mr Djokovic is a high profile unvaccinated individual who has indicated publicly that he is opposed to becoming vaccinated against COVID-19,” Mr Hawke writes.

“In addition, I consider that Mr Djokovic’s ongoing presence in Australia may lead to an increase in anti-vaccination sentiment generated in the Australian community, potentially leading to an increase in civil unrest of the kind previously experienced in Australia with rallies and protests which may themselves be a source of community transmission.”

As to the actual threat to public health posed by an uninfected individual who happens to be in superb physical condition and can be assumed to have a degree of immunity as a result of a recent COVID infection, Minister Hawke has the good grace to concede it is below negligble.

But the real infection — the mere possibility that Australians might dare to question officialdom’s COVID policies — well that is the genuine peril as far as Mr Hawke is concerned.

Who knows where it might lead if Djokovic were to be permitted the right to knock balls about Rod Laver Arena?

By Mr Hawke’s account, there might be an upswelling of resentment at two years lost to contradictory policies, hollow assurances, closed-border chaos, curfews, lockdowns, fines, false promises, closed schools, shuttered businesses, ruined lives and, especially in Victoria, unrestrained and officially encouraged police thuggery.

Loved that little bit in there about parents can send their kids to private school at their own expense whil they still have to pay the taxes for public schools

White House Pursuing Joe Biden Communications Reboot as Polls Collapse

The White House is planning a new communications strategy, as President Joe Biden faces a total collapse of his approval ratings.

Citing “senior administration officials,” NBC News reported Tuesday the White House is exploring new ways to communicate directly with the American people.

Advisers expressed the need for Biden to “talk to more people directly,” instead of “one-dimensional” speeches from the White House, the report revealed, citing “his greatest political strength” as “empathy and an ability to connect with ordinary Americans.”

Last fall, the court resumed in-person arguments for the first time, and none chose to wear a mask except Justice Sonia Sotomayor

When the court returned to the bench following the Omicron surge, Sotomayor made it clear she did not feel safe unless her colleagues were masked

Roberts then reportedly asked the other justices to mask up so that Sotomayor could return, but Gorsuch, who sits directly next to her, remained obstinate

Putin may ‘have a go’ in the Ukraine, around May, when the ice has melted and the mud has dried. He’s currently moving landing craft out of the Baltic but it’s a VERY long way for landing craft to transit… across the baltic, into the North Sea, down the North Atlantic coast, turn left at the Gib and into the Med, across the Med and through the Strait into the Black Sea and finally across the Black Sea to Crimea or the Sea of Asov to collect their passengers. That will take some time! I’m guessing May at the earliest.

With Germany looking more like a vacuum than a leader of the EU, France and Macron with elections in a few months, Italy looking for German leadership and finding zip, but with Russian gas supplies keeping Italy warm. Only the Poles and the Balts seem ready to support the Ukes. Putin will brush them aside. The US has been having overflight problems with Berlin because their C-5 are carrying ATGMs for the anti-armor forces in Ukraine. With Biden out to lunch permanently and with 2022 US elections still 9 months away this is Putin’s opportunity.

I’m guessing for a grab of the Russian slice of the Population in Eastern Ukraine that joins the Crimea to ‘Mother Russia’ once more.

THAT is a serious possibility. This isn’t the first time that China has followed this scenario. Remember the October Military ‘Games’ in Beijing in 2019, where many of the participants from the US and Europe, took home not just prizes but the Covid-19 virus as well. Not well reported but it’s out there.

It is not yet true that every state is a border state but it is true that Texas, NM, et. al. are and their governors are in the cross hairs

Video footage recently surfaced on Twitter showing C4 explosives being dropped by a drone near a town in Michoacán, Mexico, reportedly by members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, following hours of clashes between armed groups.

In the video, a small explosion hits a woodland camp, a cluster of tents amid dense trees and dirt roads. Men scatter, running for cover. Another volley of explosives is released. When it hits, the camp erupts in flames. The drone lingers, its camera darting around, zooming in and out over the camp as it burns, like it’s looking for something. Seconds later, the drone is shot out of the sky.

It’s the kind of video clip that surfaces on social media now and then, offering a glimpse of outlandish happenings in Mexico. Most Americans have no way of making sense of these videos, or imagining what they portend.

    @ lobo91:

    Yup:

California Democrat McNerney won’t seek re-election, opening seat to Rep. Josh Harder

Rep. Jerry McNerney, the long-time Democratic representative for areas surrounding Stockton in the San Joaquin Valley, will not seek re-election in his home district at the end of his term, his office announced.

“I will keep working for the people of my district throughout the remainder of my term and look forward to new opportunities to continue to serve,” McNerney said in a release.

McNerney’s decision not to run in California’s 9th Congressional District opens the door for Rep. Josh Harder, D-Turlock, to run for re-election in a fairly safe Democratic seat. It holds San Joaquin County in a stretch from Collierville to Manteca and Tracy.

Harder’s seat centered on Stanislaus County changed significantly through California’s once-a-decade redistricting process. He had been representing parts of San Joaquin County that are set to be in what would be McNerney’s district.

“Jerry, thank you for your incredible service to our community,” Harder said in a release following McNerney’s announcement. “Today, I’m humbled to share I will be running for reelection in CA-9 which encompasses parts of mine and Jerry’s districts. More than 150 years ago, my great-great-grandpa joined a wagon train to California and settled in Manteca to start a peach farm and raise his family.”

Harder leaves the 13th Congressional District that holds much of his hometown of Turlock, parts of Modesto and Merced. It is rated as a tighter election by expert analysts, though one that leans Democratic.

Montgomery County MD council just got the dragon treatment from Bethany Mandel. Pure. Fire.

So everyone here is going to tell you why this is bad for businesses and for residents. I’m here to tell you why this is bad for you as politicians. This is gonna be the end of your cushy government bureaucratic careers.

Here’s the thing. The seats for this council are up for a primary vote in June. That’s the deciding election in this county. An election the only truly motivated people bother to vote in during off-election years. Unfortunately for you, you’ve made us care. And we’ve filled these speaking slots within three minutes of them opening.

For those of you who are facing term limits, we’re coming for your seats. For those of you who plan to run again, we’re coming for yours. This resolution is the final straw for a number of businesses, groups and individuals in this county who have seen you come close to destroying everything they’ve built.

They’re willing to put money behind getting a council who won’t try to bankrupt them and, by extension, the county. If you’re a business or individual looking to make change, contact me. And if you’re interested in running for one of these seats, contact me too.

We’ve started contacting lawyers about a legal challenge to this poorly thought out law if you pass it. The SCOTUS just knocked down the OSHA mandate. Do you want the black eye involved in national tension on this amateur attempt at lawmaking?

Why is the FBI at the home of Rep. Cuellar?

The FBI is conducting what it described as “court-authorized” law enforcement activity at the Laredo home of U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar…

“The FBI was present in the vicinity of Windridge Drive and Estate Drive in Laredo conducting court-authorized law enforcement activity,” the [FBI] statement read. “The FBI cannot provide further comment on an ongoing investigation.”

At Cuellar’s home, located in the 8200 block of Estate Drive, federal vehicles were seen with cases and other items taken from the congressman’s home as over a dozen agents filed in and out of the residence Wednesday afternoon.

Supermarkets Report Food Shortages After Canada Imposes Trucker Vax Mandate

Overwhelmed supply chains and truck driver shortages worsened when Canada imposed new border mandates prohibiting unvaccinated American truckers. With low vaccination rates among US drivers, Canadian supermarkets are already reporting rising food inflation and shortages of certain products, according to Bloomberg.
    .
    .
The situation will only worsen on Jan. 22 when the US begins imposing its vaccine mandate on Canadian truckers. The Canadian Trucking Association warned the mandate would sideline up to 16,000 truckers.

Canadian truck drivers are furious with the US decision and have blocked the highway near the US-Manitoba international border to protest the new mandates. Videos posted on social media show the chaos playing out on the other side of the border.

No clue where Buttigieg is on this…..

The latest aircraft radar altimeters are not effected. However older aircraft radar altimeters ARE not as shielded and the 5G signals cause them to give false readings …. just when false readings are the LAST thing you need, as the ground approached the undercarriage to break your fall!
    🙂

In bad weather … (like now in the US, where old aircraft fly)…. aircraft need instrument approaches like ILS (Instrument Landing System) to get aircraft back onto the ground in crappy weather. 5G messing with radar altimeter signals can have ‘unfortunate’ results !

    This is very strange.

I recently wrote to my United States senator, a Republican NeverTrump, respectfully asking why the January 6 detainees are still in jail, with many still in solitary and not arraigned for what was essentially trespassing on public property (forgetting for the moment the role of FBI instigators). (Incidentally, we should all be writing.) His reply saddened me profoundly. I received back a two-page harangue of how horrible January 6 was and how it imperiled our democracy. Buried within that harangue were unexpected admissions about the unconstitutional conditions in which far more prisoners are held than most people realize. Surprisingly enough, these admissions gave me hope.
    .
    .
After a lengthy harangue about Jan. 6, the depraved perpetrators, and the evil Donald Trump, he provided two very odd statements. First, he informed me that 570 people are still held in D.C.’s jails.

    https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2022/01/a_republican_nevertrump_senator_reveals_more_than_he_meant.html

Jordan Peterson has a scorching interview w/Daily Wire on why he left Univ. Toronto

“My students are also partly unacceptable precisely because they are my students. I am academic persona non grata, because of my unacceptable philosophical positions. And this isn’t just some inconvenience. These facts rendered my job morally untenable. How can I accept prospective researchers and train them in good conscience knowing their employment prospects to be minimal?”

Peterson pointed to other trends destroying academia “and, downstream, the general culture” — including the end of objective testing and “grievance studies” disciplines. He also observed that colleagues must bow to diversity mandates by crafting “DIE statements” to obtain research grants.

“They all lie (excepting the minority of true believers) and they teach their students to do the same

What in the Sam Hill? What is more diverse than red, brown, and blue cartoon candy characters? Another set of commercials to ignore. Anymore when I see a commercial and it opens with a POC as the main character, my response is, “Well, they aren’t looking for me to buy from them” and just ignore the rest. I pretty much have always ignored commercials, now it is with more vehemence. Look, I don’t care all that much about the melanin content of commercial actors or their plumbing, but when every frickin’ commercial makes sure that its main characters are POC’s, that’s not inclusion, that’s pandering. … and discriminating against other actors trying to get started in the business.

    Life is complicated.

Say you own a car. A car that had a major electrical malfunction almost two years ago but because of this COVID thing and no job you didn’t really need to get it fixed because you didn’t use it. Parked in a spot in apartment complex.

Car is 20 years old and had a hard life. Worth about $400 scrap value.

Was insured up to a year ago, registration not renewed because to renew it has to be inspected and because it don’t run no way to get it to be inspected.

Can’t now get insurance because it is not registered. Can’t even get it towed to be fixed and inspected so I can re-register it because… Yep not insured.

Notice on car it is going to be towed out of apartment parking lot tomorrow. Because, well no registration sticker.

Was going to pay my ” Illegal ” friends $100 to push it out onto the street but as it was 43F today they are all huddled up somewhere warm.

So, this is catch 22 problem number one. You cannot keep a vehicle legally registered unless it runs. At least as far as to a testing station and back.

Can’t legally get it to a testing place without insurance.

Can’t get insurance without valid registration.

Can’t get car inspected and registered without insurance.

So, fuck it. I got all my shit out of car and towing company can have it, impound it, sell it and not my problem anymore.

Why am I so eager to just get rid of this car that is broke and ain’t worth anything you may ask….

Well, driver licence is expired and I need to renew it. Then I can rent a car if needed, or even buy a new one!

On the driver licence renewal form there are a few awkward questions such as.

    ” Do you own a car? ”

” Is it currently registered? ”

    LMAO

One state had me suspended but with a good addresse. The other state had me pending for a year due to covid. I missed all the 30 day deadlines and had to appeal for mercy. I had to be nice on the phone to government reps. It was a travesty.

It messes with the ALTIMETER??!! And nobody saw this coming?

    sheesh…………..

… and it’s not just ANY OLD Altimeter. It’s the extremely accurate altimeter that bounces radar off the ground to show you EXACTLY how much altitude you have DIRECTLY BENEATH the wheels. Other altimeters are pressure instruments and are only as accurate as they need to be. Radar Altimeters are accurate to within a foot or so and are used in Auto-Land if everything else is rated as Zero-Zero Landing on BOTH the aircraft and the ground instruments. Radar Altimeters are also used in manual Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) are also used in Precision approaches down to 200′ but mostly 300′., with VERY low cloud bases and VERY restricted visual range out the front of an aircraft by the pilots.

In a serious ILS down to minimums of 200′ in altitude and 800 feet visibility out the front, it can feel VERY VERY alarming, especially at night. The non flying pilot keeps his head down and monitors the flying pilot via the instruments, as the flying pilot keeps his head up and looking through the windshield for ‘cues’ that he can use to land the aircraft visually. If at minimums the flying pilot DOES NOT call ‘Visual’ that is the signal to IMMEDIATELY GO AROUND. With a large aircraft landing at 130 Knots (150 MPH) at just 200′ above the ground things happen FAST. You’re chewing up about 200 feet per second of available landing distance and at 200 feet altitude you only have to be 100 feet off the centre of the runway lights to have a set of landing gear destroying edge lighting or worse onto the grass where the bogies sink up to their hubs and destroy your whole day.

Now imagine after a couple of missed approaches and beginning to think about diverting and thinking hard about fuel reserves, and after having been in the air for 13 hours(flying ultra long haul) , or done this this four of five times already that night, in crappy weather (short haul). And throw in that it’s night, it’s snowing or sleeting, and there is a cross wind on the runway that you’re using with ice on the runway, and suddenly you’re earning every dollar that the airline is paying you. This is what pilots face every winter’s night in the US and across the world, except for the tropics and temperate zones.

Now imagine that your employer is using old aircraft because they were cheap, although their electronics are now below standard where 5G is operating. Just when your pilot with his ‘head down’ is calling the numbers for the pilot with this head up, who is scanning the dark for runway centre lights and looking for the runway edge lights to keep his airplane centred,
while the airplane is just 200 feet above what you HOPE is the runway your Radar altimeter is getting confused by 5G signals from someone’s cell tower alongside the terminal building…….. YOU DON’T want to be there!

Had just that set of circumstances but WITHOUT the threat of 5 G towers giving shitty signals to the Radar Altimeter. The skipper was flying and landing early morning after 13 hours in the air (LAX-AKL direct). In rolling marine fog we did a missed approach the first try down to 200′ above the ground. The skipper saw zip. The cross wind was 15 knots from right to left, just enough to ‘complicate’ things near the ground. We had 5 tonnes of approach fuel left so that was one last try …. just…. Unknown to the Flight Engineer and myself the skipper was on a promise from his ‘girlfriend’ (the guy was a two time loser already’ and was DETERMINED to get home to Auckland and NOT under any circumstance have to divert to Christchurch our ALTERNATE.

I had my head down calling the numbers but I could feel the tension in the Flight Engineer in the seat between the pilots. We hit 200 feet and looked maybe a smidgin off to the right but that was OK as the cross wind was from the right. The skipper didn’t call VISUAL and we entered a state of LIMBO for maybe 2 seconds. I yelled ” You Visual”? and he said Ummmm… YES. I didn’t believe him and I broke protocol and took a peep outside. I COULDN’T SEE ANYTHING. The airplane was drifting left and the Flight engineer’s hand made a grab for the Thrust Lever… also breaking protocol and at 100 feet which was 100 feet BELOW minimums by now the rolling fog bank lightened for a couple of seconds and we saw the runway edge right on the nose. The skipper kicked in right rudder and we managed to just make it back above the runway and touched down heavily. By then I had my head well up and watched the edge lights swaying back and forth from side to side down the foggy runway. We could only see one set of lights ahead…. 300 feet!

The skipper was shaking like a leaf and both the Flight Engineer and myself were enraged by the display of shitty airmanship, that came so very close to killing 330 people for no good reason except that the moron who was skippering the aircraft wanted to get his rocks off with his girlfriend. The engineer and I discussed the situation and considered reporting the Captain for unsafe operation of the aircraft. For a few good (political) reasons we decided against it however we BOTH reamed out the skipper and warned him that we’d refuse to fly with him again, and if we were ever rostered to fly together the skipper had to call in sick!

Most crews were totally professional as we all expected ….. but…. there were a few cowboys about. You’d see the ‘usual suspects’ on the roster and cringe at having to fly with them for the next week or 10 days. A few were psychos on their fourth wife and totally unfit psychologically to fly.

    POLITICS!

That’s OK if you are in a ZERO-ZERO equipped Auto-land airplane and where the Ground based landing system is working 100% and checked. I’ve done ZERO-ZERO landings at Sydney in Oz, but NOT for real as the ground based gear had not been regularly checked. I’d do it on nice sunny days and just ‘ghost’ the automatic controls with my hands on the yoke and thrust levers’ just in case’. Worked A TREAT EVERY TIME.

Approached on ILS down to 200′ and 800′ vis makes one CONCENTRATE. We used to do regular PRAs (Precision Radar Approaches) on Boeing 737s into Wellington airport one of 13 Black Star Airports globally. I didn’t mind PRAs as the radar controllers were THE BEST and managed to thread the needle (aircraft) between the cliff and the mountains and pop you out on the end of the runway. The raging crosswind was then ‘up to you!’

    🙂

Simple really but it is confusing finding your way when you are on the ground amid a field of lights. The Centreline lights are about 300 feet apart and set flush with the concrete. The edge lights are red and sit up on little stalks above the ground on the runway edges, from memory about 100 feet apart.

When you’re barreling down a Runway like Los Angeles RW 20 Right you stary off with centre line lights every 300 feet. They seem to go past soooo slowly at first as normally we were taking off at Maximum weight. 377,840 Kg
We were always probably 10 -12 tonnes OVERWEIGHT as well because of all of that extra passenger baggage stuffed into the overhead lockers…. bastards!
    🙂

At 1000 feet from the end of the runway the normal white centreline lights went red for every second light, At 500 feet from the end of the runway the centre line lights all turned RED. By then you were totally COMMITTED to take off ad you’d NEVER stop in time

Vi was DECISION SPEED (Go Or STOP)
Vr was Rotation speed when we lifter the nose off the runway
    V2 was fly away speed.

Every time at LAX RW25R we were well past V1 and committed to GO with NO OPTION to stop getting near the last of the ALL WHITE lights. Rotate and it was always ‘red”’white … red … white and even Red…red… red…red.
The airplane would struggle into the air and the landing gear would just miss the wire fence at the end of 25R, Lincoln Bvd would flash past then the sand hills and then the black Pacific ocean. Like flying into the insides of cow. Concentrate on flying the instruments ACCURATELY as you were still only 300 feet above the water and even a nudge would put in the surf. S-L-O-W-L-Y we climb away and begin our 13 + hour trip down under, NOT CROSSING a single piece of land for the whole 13 hours. Just blackness until about an our out of Auckland just a wee bit of light as the sun decided to rise.

‘real soldiers’ in Russian translates to ‘cannon fodder’.

What will be ironic is if they scientifically measure the warming caused by the Volcano and it ends up being 10,000 times more than the history of human civilization.

The atmospheric ash will cause cooling. The eruption of Krakatoa resulted in “The Year Without a Summer.”

    Yep. Just you.

Anyone else feel like the Tonga volcanic eruption and pacific rim tsunamis were Earth’s way of saying, “Global warming is real, and y’all don’t even know the half of it?” Just me?

“DatadrivenMD”. Yeah, I’ll bet he thinks masks work to prevent the spread of viral infections and that the vaccine isn’t working because there is not 100% compliance as well.

Somebody in that thread made the ultimate comment, “ I’m honestly just in total shock at how stupid you all are.”

… and apparently Politically Correct American has abandoned all pretense of real science: one of the other tweets in that thread citing Politically correct American: “Get Ready for More Volcanic Eruptions as the Planet Warms
A new study shows that even relatively small-scale climatic changes affect volcanic activity”

In what world does that even make sense?

I think its in Taiwan? Where administrators are using covid as a reason to get rid of kids pets like hamsters etc. No reason for it other than the person is a control freak with a once in a lifetime opportunity to get their jollies. Lot of serial killers in government positions.

    Hong Kong I think
