I worked the 3p to 3a shift at the ER and drove back 3.5 hours, took The Puti to her first “REAL” competitive golf round for the varsity team, she was the #6, out of 6. She’s done. She’s the only girl on the team.
We then went to the clubhouse and had lunch. I’m exhausted. Well, she lost by one stroke. Lost by 1 against a Junior male…this Freshman Girl of 14 with 6 months experience damn near beat a guy two years older and much bigger. The Puti blew it on the approach chip to the 9th and final hole. She went way too quick, her nerves got her. She hit it way thin and sent it through the green. Nice shot back to the hole and 2 put. A nice recovery given the circumstances.
The team won the match, and they voted her ‘man of the match’ for her surprising and effective performance in her first real round. She was dejected until her coach told her that that was one of the best rounds that he has ever seen from a Freshman…on the boys varsity team. THen, the smile, ear to ear.
She did well, earned a steak dinner at the CC, and just got her braces off. It;s been a good few days.
her coach and the pro at our CC deserve high praise. well done them! excellent teachers.
i won’t teach her, she will play 9 with me, but i only offer general tips. if i had to teach her, she would learn my bad habits, my dad’s bad habits, his dad’s bad habits….
a nightmare.
she’s still a little bummed. she told me that she knew she would win by hole 7.
her coach told me that she was up by 2 after 6 and the guy she was playing against was rattled, losing to a girl!
he was a good guy though, gave her a big hug at the end and clapped her off the green.
she does not get to play tomorrow because the #6 in rank was not able to be there today and she was next up, however, she beat his aggregate with this round…and so it begins…who is the real #6. this will be fun to watch.
@ coldwarrior:
A question, and I don’t mean to be personal or to violate her privacy. Is Puti a large girl for her age group? It sounds as tho she’s got some serious muscle.
Welp. Yinz won’t believe what I’ve gone and done.
I talked myself into a job. Totally out of the blue. I took a ring into a local jewelry store that does repairs. A charming place, privately owned, a small gem on its own. The owner and I got to talking and it turned out he’s a graduate of the GIA, whose courses I was taking to become a gemologist. But then Hubby came down with his heart problems and because gemology usually requires travel, it was a no go. So I quit.
They’re taking me on one day a week, no pay for now. At the very least, I get to get my nose back into the field, retail, design (you should see the lab they have in the back!) and be around gemology again and all those beautiful stones that each tell their own stories about the earth.
Hubby will get over it.
Mia is still in the hospital, I go see her tomorrow at 10 am and – fingers crossed – will bring her home. She just is not interested in food.

A Jackrabbit is not a Rabbit. It is a Hare. They are related like humans are related to chimps.
“rabbits” are born with eyes closed and no fur. Hares are born with fur camouflaged and eyes open.
Rabbits are born in a nest all together, hares are born and separated at birth and hidden in different places.
When chased a rabbit will do the sudden reversal of direction to escape, so does a hare as seen in the video. What they both do to try to escape is not really seen in that video. Difficult to see.
If there is high ground nearby, a hill, a mountain, they will head for that.
The short front legs and long hind legs give them a definite speed advantage when running uphill.

If you pursue that route, it would need to be extended to other foreign-borne citizens and those with dubious ideologies.

“DMSO gained an underground following as a cure-all for many types of ailments. By the late 1970s, the only way to get this substance was as a degreaser in hardware stores. The DMSO found in degreasers was 99 percent pure as opposed to a less-concentrated form that was in muscle creams in the 1960s.
Grant looked up what happens to DMSO when it is exposed to oxygen and had a revelation. The substance converts to dimethyl sulfate (not sulfone) because it adds oxygen to its chemical structure. Dimethyl sulfate acts much differently than dimethyl sulfone.
As a gas, dimethyl sulfate vapors destroy cells in people’s eyes, lungs, and mouth. When this vapor gets into the body, it can cause convulsions, delirium, and paralysis. Of the 20 symptoms described by medical staff that night, 19 of them match symptoms of people who have exposure to dimethyl sulfate vapors.
The medical staff didn’t suffer from mass hysteria or stress. They suffered from dimethyl sulfate poisoning.”

The only successful nations that actually did Hard Business Networks were Italy for the past 300 years and Norway where they used oil finance to finance any qualifying company in Norway to join into a local Hard Business Network to compete internationally with their own mix of expertise.
Oh Yes the Danes just sold their crappy system to about 5 other nations to claw back the $70 million in seed money that they had blown, to sneakily break even, selling rubbish systems to Canada, the US Spain and a few others. The Norwegians has the bulletproof system and the Kiwis and Aussies bought into that but thy didn’t have the required funding to do it 100% right.
Sandvika University, around the far side of the Oslo Fjord, really did a great job and made billions by investing in almost every project. Only about 1 in 5 were seriously successful but then won REALLY BIG time for the Norwegian government who led the financing and network selection. About 30% of Hard Business Networks either broke even or came away with small million dollar successful wins and half of companies lost their Norwegian government oil finance . They remained financially viable locally but their international network side failed. Mostly not from crappy ideas but because of difficulties switching from the set up organizations not being able to change leader companies when it came time for the Start Up leaders switching leadership to going into serious business internationally. But when that 18-20% of Start ups doing it right, their profits were in the tens to hundreds of millions and in a few Networks cases their profits were in the billions.

Maybe by removing the block function more people will report nasty accounts, thus making X better for everyone.
Third point, I remember Musk or some other Twitter system account asking to review their personal block list as huge blocklists put an excessively large load on the system.
Also blocking someone DOES NOT mean they cannot see what you post on X
@ Possum:
I can understand a large block list being a total PIA for system load. I’ve never used mute, how does it work?
@ eaglesoars:
Mute stops you seeing another posters posts, they however can reply to your posts. You see their replies as “this reply is from an account you muted” but you can still click on it to see it if you want.
What you do see is all the replies to the reply of the account you muted. Sort of like you can still see whoever piled on to that post, either defending you or attacking you.

Meet Chris Lunsford
Whistleblowers from the TSA and Border Patrol have raised the alarm to Infowars that the Biden administration is setting the stage for full Covid lockdowns that will begin with incremental restrictions like masking TSA employees in mid-September.
The first source, a high-level TSA official confirmed and known to Infowars, reached out to Infowars and cited a Tuesday meeting in which TSA managers were told new memorandums & policies were being completed that would reimplement masking, starting with TSA & airport employees as early as mid-September.
The TSA official also said next week they will receive new guidelines on how the policy will escalate: by mid-October, mask-wearing will be required by pilots, flight staff, passengers, and airport patrons.
After hearing from the TSA manager, Infowars reached out to our trusted Border Patrol source who is also a manager. This source confirmed the same directives were being given to Border Patrol.
They were told it was not a matter of “if” but “when” official Covid numbers will go back up and they expect by mid-October a return to forced-masking policies that the Biden administration previously only reluctantly ended after massive pressure.

@ Possum:
Yep, you guessed. All I have in the fridge is half a pack of Ball Park Wieners, an egg and two tomatoes.
Yearning for roast goat…..
Just a casual health post.
Beware of taking those ” One A Day ” vitamin supplement things. Often advertised as a complete vitamin and mineral solution for healthy living.
Easy to think you can pop one of those per day and you are good to go. But not quite…..
As an example, this one is from Bayer. Read the fine print and you see there is ZERO Iron.
https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41DtgoXFaOS.pdf
So my advice is, supplement the one a day supplement with the stuff that isn’t in the one a day all you need pills.
The lack of Iron in my one a day pill can be supplemented by a large portion of roasted goat per day.
@ Possum:
OK and now I just went down a rabbit hole that may take some serious research.
By comparing the men version and the women version of that product it seems the women version contains 18mg Iron which is 100 percent daily dose for a woman. Plus other shit that isn’t in the men version.
Yeah this is going to take a lot of math and beer to work out but, and this is still in the research phase, the ideal full supplement for me would seem to be the one a day men and one a day women.
If after a couple of months I grow tits then I will admit my science is flawed….
@ Possum:
So, just ordered the men and women version and why the fuck not add a bottle of fish oil.
Each is one a day and 200 in each bottle so that is six months supply. However I intend to take two of each per day, no overdose risk.
So, three months of all the essentials I need to stay alive cost me 47 bucks. Now add all the lettuce I can eat and all the beer I can drink and I am good.
P.S a restaurant miles away delivers goat chops…

One last thought.
Obviously Bayer and other producers of vitamins and mineral supplements know there is a biological difference in dietary requirements for males and females.
What once a day supplements does a tranny take?
@ Possum:
It depends. ESTRO or TESTO.
@ rightymouse:
Maybe, but take one example. Iron. In men supplements there is zero Iron, women one hundred percent.
I ain’t stupid, I have a good idea why women need a higher daily intake of Iron. But why no
Iron included in the men one?
The ” one a day ” leads to a false sense of security.
One a day is misleading.

I don’t take Iron supplements. They turn my poop black.

A ranch is a western term for a place where large herds of livestock are raised. A farm & ranch is a place where the livestock and farming is rotated every season to different fields. Some fields are used to raise rice, soybeans or hay, while the livestock graze on the ones from the last season for the natural fertilizer.

But boy o boy! Don’t call a PA farm a ranch or the TX peeps lose their minds.
I’ve been chided over and over again for that.
Frankly, I don’t care.
How’s the beef?
@ coldwarrior:
My grandfather’s and later my dad’s and uncles’ ranch was just north of the intercoastal waterway, north of High Island, Texas, they ran around 2,000 head there. The beef fed on salt grass, the mosquitoes could take the weight off almost as fast as the salt grass put it on. The cattle were originally longhorns that had later been bred by Brahma bulls, to put more beef on them. The land was about half marsh and the cattle ranged from mean to psychopathic with needle point horns. When we wanted to butcher a few steers we moved them to a farm about 35 miles north to fatten them and get them away from the mosquitoes, the beef was great.
As to the farm / ranch thing, the owner can call it what ever they want to, I don’t care. The word ranch comes from the mexican rancho, probably why it’s a mostly western term.

DOJ sues SpaceX for not hiring asylum seekers and refugees
The U.S. Department Justice on Thursday announced it is suing SpaceX over employment discrimination.
The DOJ alleges that SpaceX discouraged refugees and asylum seekers from applying to open positions and refused to hire those that did, according to the complaint.
According to the complaint, SpaceX job postings wrongly stated that only U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents could apply for openings, and that “SpaceX’s hiring practices were routine, widespread, and longstanding, and harmed asylees and refugees.”
Under U.S. law, both asylum seekers and refugees are protected from hiring discrimination regardless of citizen status.

Frankly given the current state of Ukrainian offensive there is:-
* Nowhere near enough Ukrainian troops to task. (currently on a par with Russian troops in theatre instead of 3:1 (min) and more realistic a needed 4:1 for a successful attack ratio).
* At best the Ukrainian troops available are only marginally capable on a one to one basis with the Russians.
* The Ukrainians have NO Air Superiority over the defensive lines in the East.
* The Russian anti-tank capability is too strong for the available Ukrainian troops to task.
* The Russians can attrit Ukrainian forces with artillery from behind strong defensive positions at their leisure.
* The only capability that the Ukrainians have available, are short term raids, and we saw exactly that scenario a week ago in Crimea. Did you notice that that particular operation quickly disappeared from the news cycle almost immediately. The Ukrainians have no capability for ‘persistence’, and no logistics capability to enforce long term gains.
* Ukraine does not have the Engineering capability to effectively break through the formidable complex Russian defences in place. (read de-mining equipment) .
* The Ukraine lacks sufficient tube artillery or a sufficient ammunition reserve, to break through Russian in depth defences.
* The Ukraine options now consist of reverting to attritional warfare against a larger enemy, which in the short to medium term just results in frittering away the Ukrainian army in piecemeal actions.
* There are just 3 more weeks of reasonable weather before the rains arrive in the Ukraine, when the positions will be frozen in place until the spring 2024 at the earliest. That 6 month period will see the Ukrainian army decimated piecemeal.
* With the remains of the Ukrainian airforce not even beginning conversion onto Western aircraft (F-16A s) and in no serious numbers leaves them with no serious capability for offensive ops until summer 2024 (earliest).
* A lack of integrated Ukrainian (manned Western offensive aircraft) capability possible before natural attrition chews through the very limited numbers of available sorties, given the Ukrainian operational airpower manning, in a very effective anti-air Russian S-400 missile threat profile.
* The Ukraine military will ‘die on its feet’ during the approaching winter weather, logistically, as well as operationally, as they run out of Reserves.
* The Ukrainian -Russo War will peter-out by early 2024, and terms will have to be negotiated one way or the other, and most likely with Zelinsky nowhere in sight.
In my humble opinion.
A large portion of Ukraine’s troops on the front lines are inexperienced, experts told the DCNF, while Russian artillery chewed up Ukrainian companies. Furthermore, Ukraine is attempting to perform operations under conditions most Western armies would deem unacceptable by attempting offensive armor and infantry movements without air superiority.
“I don’t think it’s the case that the offensive isn’t meeting the expectations of American and Ukrainian military planners. I don’t think it’s meeting the expectations of American and Ukrainian commentators,” Luke Coffey, a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, told the DCNF.
…..
Reasons for the stunted progress are “fundamental,” crippling Ukraine’s effort from the start, retired Lt. Col. Daniel Davis, a senior fellow at Defense Priorities, explained to the DCNF. The training Western allies put Ukrainians through on a compressed timetable was just enough to “familiarize” troops with the equipment, he said.
“Then you have the fact that of the most important gear, they simply didn’t have. They didn’t have air power. They didn’t have enough air defense in the tactical area. They didn’t have enough artillery to overwhelm the Russians. And probably the biggest one is that they didn’t have anywhere near enough mine-clearing engineering assets,” Davis said.
…..
In June, an elite western-trained brigades attempted to pierce Russian defensive lines and sustained what Ukrainian military planners considered unacceptable losses of men and equipment, the WSJ reported. After the disastrous first start, Ukraine changed strategy and tactics.
“No Western Army would have attacked this kind of defense with anything less than a three to one advantage because you have to overwhelm the central point of penetration with overwhelming combat power so you swamp the defenses. And at most they might have had parity,” said Davis.
“We no longer plan operations that presuppose large losses,” the source told The Economist. “The emphasis is now on degrading the enemy: artillery, drones, electronic warfare and so on.”
…..
“The problem was not that Ukraine was unwilling to attempt company and battalion armored assaults but that when it did so ‘Russian anti-tank capabilities just proved too strong.’ If they had been mounted on a larger scale, it is not clear that the gains would have been much greater, although the casualties would certainly have been higher,” Lawrence Freedman, Emeritus Professor of War Studies at King’s College London, argued in an Aug. 23 blog post.
While seizing wide swaths of territory and key cities would be ideal, many defense analysts do not see the switch to attrition war, which would necessarily taper off in the fall and resume once weather conditions improve the following spring, as a sign of the end for Ukraine. Many think Ukraine could seek more moderate objectives and pepper Russian lines with small-scale operations to chip away at the defenses with a judicious use of higher-quality Western artillery.
….
The biggest risk will come if the counteroffensive “culminates,” or comes to a halt when Ukraine runs out of the troops, weapons and logistics equipment required to push through increasingly tough Russian defenses, making them vulnerable to counterattack, Davis said. As Ukraine dips further into reserve troops, with little or no combat experience, that possibility becomes ever more likely and betrays what could be wishful thinking from the Pentagon.

Superhumans with ‘Yeti blood’: These people are able to withstand extreme conditions, and science might finally know how
https://www.rt.com/india/581645-himalaya-sherpa-superhumans-with-yeti-blood/
As he climbed Mount Everest’s Lhotse ice wall, Sameer Nicholas Patham struggled to breathe despite his supplementary oxygen. Here, where temperatures drop to -30° Celsius and the ambient oxygen is 70% lower than we breathe at sea level, every step was torture.
But his Sherpa friends calmly and easily climbed past, carrying an average weight of 16kg. “They are superhumans,” recalls Sameer, who experienced firsthand what he describes as the incredible feats of the Sherpas, a Tibetan ethnic group globally known for their natural mountaineering skills.
Yet if the same Sherpas were to visit Varanasi and fall sick, the hospital’s doctors would find that they had high blood pressure and low hemoglobin compared to average plains dwellers. Often such Sherpas were prescribed unnecessary medication. And though Chinese and American scientists had isolated the gene that allowed high-altitude adaptation, a biochemical analysis was always lacking – until a recent deep study by a team of Indian scientists investigated how Himalayans have survived in their challenging habitat for centuries.
They found that populations at high altitudes have significantly lower hemoglobin and higher blood pressure in order to cope with the extreme climate. Comparatively low hemoglobin facilitates efficient blood circulation in populations at high altitudes, Chaubey says, enabling them to utilize less oxygen more efficiently. “At high altitudes, the low atmospheric pressure forces the heart to pump harder to effectively circulate the oxygen,” he explains.
