Happy New Years Yinz!

I get to be off the next couple o’ days so it will be college football, food, a few adult beverages, and much school work.

I’m 62/107 overall $2050/$1000…so I don’t ned to make any crazy bets to break even. Might bet just one game, the LSU v UCF event.

So, in the background of my days will be the following:

Stanford at Pittsburgh – Hyundai Sun Bowl – Mon, Dec 31, 2:00 PM ET – The Tree are a 4 point favorite. I like to think that my Beloved Panthers can cover. But I’m not betting any money on it.

#22 Northwestern at #17 Utah – San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl – Mon, Dec 31, 7:00 PM ET – The Cats are a 7 point dog at Da ‘Utes. The Cats can cover, and even win outright if they show up.

#18 Mississippi State at Iowa – Outback Bowl – Tue, Jan 1, 12:00 PM ET – The Bulldogs are a 7 point favorite, Iowa covers.

#11 LSU at #8 UCF – Playstation Fiesta Bowl – Tue, Jan 1, 1:00 PM ET – It’s a pick ’em and I pick the Tigers to put this second level UCF team in it’s place. I’ll put $100 on that.

#14 Kentucky at #12 Penn State – Vrbo Citrus Bowl – Tue, Jan 1, 1:00 PM ET – K is a 6.5 point dog, PSU Covers.

#9 Washington at #6 Ohio State – Rose Bowl Game Presented By Northwestern Mutual – Tue, Jan 1, 5:00 PM ET – THE GRAND-DADDY OF THEM ALL. The Rose Bowl. The Big 10 and the Pac-12 take this game VERY SERIOUSLY. As they should. Washington is getting 7, the Buckeyes cover.

#15 Texas at #5 Georgia – Allstate Sugar Bowl – Tue, Jan 1, 8:45 PM ET – Texas is getting 13 and G does not cover.

It’s do or die now. Some Great games coming up.

Army covered and now I’m 59/105 overall $1950/$1000, I’m beating the Stock Market so far. Let’s go with $100 per game.

#10 Florida at #7 Michigan – Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl – Sat, Dec 29, 12:00 PM ET – The Gators are 5 point dogs against M. This will depend what Michigan team shows up. M has a bunch of starters who are sitting out so that they don’t get injured before the NFL draft. While I understand this business decision, it shows me that there is no loyalty or cohesion at M. They don’t beat the spread.

#3 Notre Dame at #2 Clemson – Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic – Cfp Semifinal – Sat, Dec 29, 4:00 PM ET – The Good Catholic boys are 12 point dogs against Clemson. I just don’t think that The Golden Domers have a chance against Clemson’s outstanding defense. Clemson covers.

#4 Oklahoma at #1 Alabama – Capital One Orange Bowl – Cfp Semifinal – Sat, Dec 29, 8:00 PM ET – Oklahoma is a 14 point dog against possibly the greatest program in the history of college football. Nick Saban is simply amazing. Every year his teams are great. They beat this spread.

An open, and a passing

RIP, Richard Overton

Richard Overton, once the nation’s oldest living World War II veteran, died Thursday at the age of 112. The Texas native passed away from complications with pneumonia, which landed him in the hospital earlier this month, said his family.

Overton was born in Bastrop County, Tex., on May 11, 1906, and jointed the military in 1940 — more than a year before the Pearl Harbor bombing — at Fort Sam Houston Base, reported TV station WHAM.

He served in the South Pacific from 1940 through 1945, which included assignments in Hawaii, Iwo Jima, Guam and Palau. He left the Army in October 1945, after the end of World War II.
After completing his service, Overton worked at several furniture stores before accepting a position at the Texas Department of Treasury in Austin.

Even in his advanced age, he often could be found in Austin drinking whisky and smoking a cigar, Statesman reported.

His cousin Volma Overton Jr. recalled how it resembled Christmas in 2017 while celebrating his 111th birthday. Well-wishers lined up to take a photo with the birthday boy and offered gifts.

“It looks like everybody’s getting ready to take a picture with Santa Claus — and he never turns anyone down,” said Volma Overton Jr. last year. “He’s an open person to everybody, and he wanted everyone who was in town who wanted to come by to come by.”

Even more amazing, Overton reportedly drove until he was 107. It was about that time me met then-President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden while attending the Veterans Day Breakfast at the White House.
