Blogmocracy In Action!

Guest Post by  “Snork”

Yes, you read that right.

The following is the latest nontroversy from Haaretz -the most left-leaning of Israel’s English-language media outlets:

Egypt building iron wall on Gaza border to stop smuggling, which starts out with the opening paragraphs:

Egypt has begun the construction of a massive iron wall along its border with the Gaza Strip, in a bid to shut down smuggling tunnels into the territory.   The wall will be nine to 10 kilometers long, and will go 20 to 30 meters into the ground, Egyptian sources said.   It will be impossible to cut or melt.

The new plan is the latest move by Egypt to step up its counter-smuggling efforts.   Although some progress had been made, the smuggling market in Gaza still flourishes.

Ahhhh the humanity, the “ethnic cleansing”, the “apartheid”, the “land grab”….THE SILENCE!  On a different note, I have a couple of engineering comments:   “impossible to cut or melt?”; my butt!   Haven’t they ever heard of oxy-acetylene?   Also, if you assume that it is made of 1/4” thick plate (it’s probably thicker), 25 meters by 10 km works out to about 50,000 cubic feet, or 12,250 tons of steel. That’s a big job.  The steel alone is close to $10,000,000.  I wonder who’s paying for it?

Anyway, on to the third paragraph:

Egyptian forces demolish tunnels or fill them with gas almost every week, often with people still inside them, and Palestinian casualties in the tunnels have been steadily rising.

You don’t say?  I expect the human rights apparatus to snap to attention and start comparing this to the Nazi gas chambers.  Anyone?…Bueller???…Hello?….Where did everybody go?

It goes without saying that if this were the Israelis doing this, there would be massive protests from the highest UN officials, to the lowest so-called “peace” or “human rights” activist.  This silence, and hypocrisy is enough to make one question whether the human rights groups are really earnest.

It would be churlish to think that Amnesty International and HRW had an agenda that was anything but 100% altruistic. Maybe they just don’t know this is going on. Can somebody tell them? I’m sure they’d like to know, so they can bring this to the world’s attention. Can somebody also let the UN know? I guess they don’t read Haaretz for some reason.

I guess these nice people are too busy with all these human rights issues in Jerusalem, and don’t have time to read the papers. Surely, they have nothing but the best interests of these poor Palestinians in their hearts, or they wouldn’t be kicking up such a fuss in Jerusalem. So I’m sure they’d be astonished and appalled to learn what’s happening on the Gaza/Egypt border. Will someone please let them know?

This is why the UN needs a standing army.  To move in and stomp out this kind of human rights abuse.

Obama Increases Aid to Muslim Countries

Mr. “I don’t want to meddle in other Countries’ business (*if they are Muslim)” is upping U.S. aid to Islamic Dictatorships.  They deserve it right? I mean, they do so much for the U.S, and besides, it isn’t like we are in a recession.  Right?…..right?…..

Obama Bows To Saudi KingIn the latest in a recent series of increased American assistance efforts for Arab and Muslim states, U.S. President Barack Obama has allocated an additional $150 million to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The regimes leading Egypt, the Palestinian Authority, the United Arab Emirates and even Saudi Arabia have all benefited from recent American policy shifts.

Jordan’s Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Suhair Al-Ali, was quoted by The Jordan Times as explaining that the [Jordanian] kingdom receives $363 million annually from the United States in economic assistance. The allocations signed into law by Obama this week mean that Jordan will receive a total of $513 million from the U.S. in 2009. The minister told the Jordanian newspaper that the additional American aid was the result of ongoing efforts by Jordan’s King Abdullah II, as well as Obama’s “recognition of the important role Jordan plays in the region.”

Egypt received $310 million in supplemental appropriations from the U.S. House of Representatives, currently controlled by Obama’s Democratic party. At the same time, 2009 State Department funding for the promotion of democratic initiatives in Egypt was cut from $50 million to $20 million. In addition, the U.S. has agreed not to give any of the pro-democracy funds to organizations that are not approved by the Mubarak regime. In the year 2007, Egypt received a total of $2.4 billion.

On another front, in March of this year, it was reported that the Obama administration planned to dramatically increase funding to the Palestinian Authority for security training, which is conducted by Jordanian police under the supervision of U.S. General Keith Dayton. The U.S. allocated $75 million for the PA police training in 2008, but reports indicated that the Obama administration was planning to pump up to $130 million into the program in 2009In.  In any event, the U.S. has already pledged $600 million in funds to the Palestinian Authority, with another $300 million for humanitarian aid to the Hamas regime in Gaza.

Elsewhere in the region, the U.S. is set to help the United Arab Emirates become the first Arab nation with a developed nuclear power infrastructure. President Obama gave his official support and authorization for the $41 billion project, allowing private U.S. companies to compete for construction contracts.

In Pakistan, the U.S. president proposed $2.8 billion in aid for that nation’s military, alongside civilian aid of $1.5 billion a year for the next five years. The military aid is ostensibly to allow the Pakistanis to more effectively fight jihadist and al-Qaeda terrorism emanating from the Swat Valley and along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

The Obama administration’s assistance to Arab and Muslim states extends beyond the monetary, however.

According to an article in Joseph Farah’s G2 Bulletin earlier this month, the American government has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to preserve sovereign immunity for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and four Saudi princes in connection with a civil case seeking compensation for victims of the massive September 11, 2001, al-Qaeda terrorist attacks on the American homeland. The claimants in the case say that there is sufficient evidence of Saudi involvement in 9/11 for the court to lift the normally applicable immunity.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Saud al-Faisal, told Newsweek magazine this month that the United States should cut off all aid to Israel if the Jewish State does not accept the 2002 Saudi-sponsored Arab-Israeli terms of negotiation.

Prompted By Obama, C.A.I.R. To Distribute 100,000 Korans to American Leaders.

http://www.pipelinenews.org/images/CAIRbusted.jpgThe Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), whose officials in the past have been convicted for being associated with Muslim terrorist groups, said it will announce at a news conference Tuesday that it is launching an “education campaign” and will distribute 100,000 copies of the Koran to local, state and national leaders. The books will provide an English translation and commentary.

CAIR said the distribution is prompted by U.S. President Barack Obama’s recent speech in Cairo, in which he said he wants to reach out to Muslims throughout the world. He praised the Muslim community in the U.S, whose values he said incorporate tenets of Islam. President Obama, whose father was a Muslim, quoted the Koran four times in his speech in Cairo and used the word “violence” instead of “terror” in his reference to extremists.

“Through this ground-breaking outreach initiative, we hope not only to educate policy-makers and opinion leaders about Islam, but also to provide an opportunity for American Muslims to reach out to their fellow citizens of other faiths,” said CAIR board chairman, North Carolina State Senator Larry Shaw.
