Gaddafi hires 100 young women for lessons in Islam

LIBYAN leader Muammar Gaddafi is visiting Italy with a mission: to convert its young women to Islam.
[…]
”It is not true that Islam is against women,” he reportedly said, with the Libyan ambassador, an interpreter and two of his female bodyguards in military uniform at his side.

La Stampa reported that before offering each woman a copy of the Koran, Colonel Gaddafi shouted at them: ”Convert to Islam, Jesus was sent for the Hebrews, not for you. But Muhammed was sent for all humans.”

ANSA news agency quoted him as saying: ”You think that Jesus was crucified, but this is not true. God took him to heaven. They crucified someone who looked like him. The Jews tried to kill Jesus because they wanted to put the religion of Moses on the true path.”

Corriere della Sera said the the women were given copies of a book titled How to be Muslim.

Kossacks Hail KSM Civilian Trial…as a Weapon Against ‘BushCo’

Although many in the mainstream media write off the Democratic Underground as somewhat sanity challenged, they continue to praise the Daily Kos Kossacks as somehow being “reasonable progressives.” The truth is that the Kossacks are every bit as loony as their DU cousins as you can see in this Daily Kos thread about what they hope will be the real outcome of the civilian trial of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. As you will see, the conviction or acquittal of KSM is pretty much beside the point for most of the Kossacks. Their real hope for this trial is that they can use it as a weapon against what they call “BushCo.” which is also the desire of many others on the left along with their MSM allies.

Obama ‘Reaches Out’ by Naming ‘Devout’ Muslims to Security Posts (thanks to buzzsawmonkey for the link)

(IsraelNN.com) U.S. President Barack Obama continues to “reach out to Muslims” by appointing them to key security posts amid charges he wrongly ignored internal Muslim terror. One recent appointee was harshly criticized for appearing on a British-based television station whose host is a member of a radical Muslim group.

President Obama has continued to “reach out Muslims,” as he said in his keynote speech in Cairo last June, and this past week he swore in a Muslim rights advocate to the Homeland Security Advisory Council, shortly after the Fort Hood massacre. HSAC members are involved in expertise on national security.

Afghan asylum seeker wins right to stay in Britain after converting to Christianity

An Afghan asylum seeker who converted to Christianity after arriving in Britain has won the right to stay in the country because of fears he could be executed if returned home.

In a landmark case, the man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, used human rights rules to overturn a previous Home Office decision to refuse him asylum.

Lawyers said there were fears that, as an apostate – one who rejects the Muslim religion – the man, originally from Mazar-i-Sharif, but now living in Hounslow, west London, would face persecution, or even death, on his return.

Meet the Ex-Jihadis

Ever since I started meeting jihadis, I have been struck by one thing – their Britishness. I am from the East End of London, and at some point in the past decade I became used to hearing a hoarse and angry whisper of jihadism on the streets where I live. Bearded young men stand outside the library calling for “The Rule of God” and “Death to Democracy”.
[…]

The Muslims who arrive here every day from Bangladesh, or India, or Somalia say they find the presence of British Islamists bizarre. They have come here to work and raise their children in stability and escape people like them. No: these Islamists are British-born. They make up 7 per cent of the British Muslim population, according to a Populous poll (with the other 93 percent of Muslims disagreeing). Ever since the 7/7 suicide bombings, carried out by young Englishmen against London, the British have been squinting at this minority of the minority and trying to figure out how we incubated a very English jihadism.

But every attempt I have made up to now to get into their heads – including talking to Islamists for weeks at their most notorious London hub, Finsbury Park mosque, immediately after 9/11 – left me feeling like a journalistic failure. These young men speak to outsiders in a dense and impenetrable code of Koranic quotes and surly jibes at both the foreign policy crimes of our Government and the freedom of women and gays. Any attempt to dig into their psychology – to ask honestly how this swirl of thoughts led them to believe suicide bombing their own city is right – is always met with a resistant sneer, and yet more opaque recitations from the Koran. Their message is simple: we don’t do psychology or sociology. We do Allah, and Allah alone. Why do you have this particular reading of the Koran, when most Muslims don’t? Because we are right, and they are infidel. Full stop. It was an investigatory dead end.

Taliban blow up girls’ school in Pakistan: officials

PESHAWAR, Pakistan : Taliban militants blew up a girls’ school in Pakistan’s Khyber district on Tuesday, the third such attack in the tribal region bordering Afghanistan so far this month, officials said.
[…]
Islamist militants have destroyed hundreds of schools, mostly for girls, in the northwest of the country in recent years.

Nearly 200 schools were destroyed in the Swat valley alone during a two-year Taliban uprising to enforce sharia law in a district once favoured by Western tourists for its ski slopes and mountain air.

Israel to Free Prisoners to Obtain Video of Soldier

JERUSALEM — Israel said Wednesday it would release 20 Palestinian women from its jails in exchange for a videotape of a captured Israeli soldier that would prove that he is alive.

French Mayors Fear Burqa Ban Could Not Be Enforced

PARIS (Reuters) – Several mayors of French towns faced with growing demands from Muslim residents say they fear a proposed ban on head-to-toe burqa and niqab veils could not be enforced and might even prompt more women to cover up.

Not all the mayors at the panel opposed the ban. Renaud Gauquelin, mayor of Rillieux-La-Pape near Lyon, said failing to take a stand would mean failing to defend the separation of church and state and, above all, women’s rights.

“What sign would we give to women around the world?” he asked. “To Iranian women fighting for their freedom? To Saudi women who want to be able to drive a car?”

Kartika caning undermines ‘moderate Islam’ image: SIS

SIS board member Zainah Anwar said while the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister have always been trying to project Malaysia as a model Islamic country, such a punishment was unacceptable and could be seen as too severe.

She said Malaysia had attracted international attention because of the Kuantan Syariah High Court’s recent decision to whip the 32-year-old, along with other issues such as the fatwa (religious decree) on yoga and tomboys.

“Foreigners are interested to come to our country because of the moderate image we portray but when they come here, they are shocked to find the level of conservatism being practised.

“So where is this model Muslim country we have been trying to promote?” Zainah told a press conference at the SIS office here on Wednesday.

Jordan bans anti-Israel demo planned by Islamic groups

Jordanian authorities have refused to permit a demonstration which the country’s Islamic groups planned for Friday in reaction to the entry into the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem by Israeli police earlier this week, the Islamic Action Front (IAF) said Wednesday.

“The Amman Governor Samir Mobaydeen has rejected a request by Islamic leaders to organize the demonstration in downtown Amman after Friday prayers to condemn the desecration of al-Aqsa Mosque,” an IAF statement said.

Mobaydeen did not cite any reason for the refusal but said that his decision was based on “the authority accorded to him by the law”, it added.

Candidate wants ban on Muslim immigrants

A hopeful for a Texas congressional seat wants no more Muslim immigration to America. But candidate Canyon Clowdus doesn’t want to stop at the stance he outlined to the blog “Doctor Bulldog and Ronin,” which endorses him in the 11th Congressional District race.

“It’s not just (Muslims),” Clowdus said. “They need to check all immigrants. They used to assimilate.”

Instead, immigrants retain their beliefs, weakening America, said Clowdus, 40, a construction project manager in Marble Falls, Texas. The 11th Congressional District covers a wide swath of West Texas and stretches almost to Austin.

Sarkozy Says Burqas Are ‘Not Welcome’ In France

http://sheikyermami.com/wp-content/uploads/burka-france3.jpgPARIS (AP) – President Nicolas Sarkozy lashed out Monday at the practice of wearing the Muslim burqa, insisting the full-body religious gown is a sign of the “debasement” of women and that it won’t be welcome in France.

The French leader expressed support for a recent call by dozens of legislators to create a parliamentary commission to study a small but growing trend of wearing the full-body garment in France.

In the first presidential address in 136 years to a joint session of France’s two houses of parliament, Sarkozy laid out his support for a ban even before the panel has been approved—braving critics who fear the issue is a marginal one and could stigmatize Muslims in France.

“In our country, we cannot accept that women be prisoners behind a screen, cut off from all social life, deprived of all identity,” Sarkozy said to extended applause in a speech at the Chateau of Versailles southwest of Paris.

“The burqa is not a religious sign, it’s a sign of subservience, a sign of debasement—I want to say it solemnly,” he said. “It will not be welcome on the territory of the French Republic.

In France, the terms “burqa” and “niqab” often are used interchangeably. The former refers to a full-body covering worn largely in Afghanistan with only a mesh screen over the eyes, whereas the latter is a full-body veil, often in black, with slits for the eyes.

Later Monday, Sarkozy was expected to host a state dinner with Sheik Hamad Bin Jassem Al Thani of Qatar.  Many women in the Persian Gulf state wear Islamic head coverings in public—whether while shopping or driving cars.

France enacted a law in 2004 banning the Islamic headscarf and other conspicuous religious symbols from public schools, sparking fierce debate at home and abroad. France has Western Europe’s largest Muslim population, an estimated 5 million people.

A government spokesman said Friday that it would seek to set up a parliamentary commission that could propose legislation aimed at barring Muslim women from wearing the head-to-toe gowns outside the home.

The issue is highly divisive even within the government. France’s junior minister for human rights, Rama Yade, said she was open to a ban if it is aimed at protecting women forced to wear the burqa.

But Immigration Minister Eric Besson said a ban would only “create tensions.”

A leading French Muslim group warned against studying the burqa.
