In general it is where the American public has found itself with regards to its politicians and the media that is suppose to hold them accountable.

They say, eventually the truth always comes out. You just never really know when it will.

Well, apparently some of it got out back in May, and, well, apparently almost nobody noticed the significances. In an article released on the 28th of May 2015 in WIRED the truth behind the European Union and the United States attempt to overthrow the Government of Ukraine and install a Western Puppet regime. At first glance, the most obvious reason seemed to be, (was obviously intended to be mistaken for the reason) was the Russian oil/natural gas pipelines through Ukraine and the prices Russia was charging Europe for oil and natural gas.

Well, WIRED accidentally spilled the beans. WIRED thought all they were doing was following up on bits of information released by Edward Snowden.

“Torus”: has one word in a Snowden leak revealed a huge expansion in surveillance?

Well, it turns out there was a bit of covert intelligence information in the WIRED article that went way beyond what the authors of the article realized they were bringing to light. What they exposed was the real reason behind the EU, US and Russian power struggle over Ukraine. It goes back to the Cold War and its about as James Bond as it gets.

Here is what WIRED accident exposed.

First you have to know something about Torus before this little 2 paragraph accidental bit of information makes any sense, or why it is responsible for the EU, US and Russian conflict in Ukraine.

What is Torus?

In literal terms the word can mean “doughnut”, though from the slide it appeared that this doughnut has special properties — namely being a critical new means by which to grab all of the world’s communications that still travel through space. “Torus increases access”, one cryptic slide suggested.

We looked, and we found. Torus is a brand new kind of satellite espionage, capable of soaking up calls and messages and data from 35 satellites at once. The dishes themselves don’t look too different to familiar space tracking dishes, and can be hidden inside giant white globes — radomes. But look more closely and the power of the doughnut emerges. Specifically, a Torus dish can monitor 70 degrees of the sky, without moving. Mathematically, the dishes are a combination of a parabola with a sphere, shaped to relay multiple signals focussed from space into an array of different listening horns. Once collected all the different facets of modern communications, from Facebook to fax, are separated and sifted and filed away in giant data centres, such as NSA has recently built near Salt Lake City.
Getty Images

Over the last eight years, we believe our research shows, western spy agencies have built six new Torus collectors in the UK, Cyprus, Oman, Australia and New Zealand. Their locations are diverse: deep in the Australian outback, in Lord of the Rings territory in New Zealand’s South Island, and on the Devon coast in England.

About 400 commercial communications satellites now orbit over the equator 24,000 miles above the Earth’s surface, carrying data and telephone signals to remote areas, ocean cruise liners, and privileged passengers in the air. All are targets for what a leaked NSA document calls the “New Collection Posture”.

The agencies already have more than 200 traditional tracking dishes scattered around the planet — we counted them all, using Google Earth and other online image sites. The online images show that numbers of listening dishes have doubled since about 2000. The six new doughnut dishes can double this up again, and “collect-it-all”, as claimed in Top Secret Snowden slides, potentially increasing snooping capacity by up to 200 satellites.
The long history of Torus

And here is the little jewel WIRED let slip.

But the Russians got there first, we found. The grandmother of all doughnut dishes had been built first by the former Soviet intelligence service in the final years of the Cold War, before 1990. Lurking in Ukraine wheat fields 15 kilometres from the Black Sea port of Odessa, the Ovidiopol-2 spy base may once have been the electronic jewel in the KGB’s crown. Former Russian spies say they called it “the Comb”.

Standing 10 storeys high and 80 metres across, the Ovidiopol-2 listening antenna appears to have been equipped to track at least 20 western satellites at once. After the USSR broke up, it was handed over to the Ukraine government’s foreign intelligence service (SZRU). The site is still in use, and now includes a second Torus.

Did you get it? What is at stake here, in this little rumble in Ukraine, is the former KGB’s and now Russia’s most powerful and largest covert information collection tool and storage database. There it is in a nutshell, a prize that the EU (NATO) and the US simply could not afford to not try to capture. And one that there was never any chance that Vladimir Putin would not make every effort to prevent their obtaining.

How Hollywood and Silicon Valley took over America

Read this article and see what we are up against.  America will resemble California soon enough (and without the great weather).

Republicans need to be the party of  the middle class and stop throwing themselves on the sword for the millionaires (most of whom such as Jeffrey Katzenberg supported Obama). Let Obama and the Democrats tax them to death.

by Matthew Continetti

This is a story about politics and power in the golden land, and it begins with the money. In early May a luxury resort in Laguna Beach, Calif., hosted a five-day semi-annual meeting of the Democracy Alliance, a secret, invitation-only organization of liberal moneybags that since its formation in 2005 has directed some $500 million in contributions to progressive groups. Never has a wolves’ den been so posh.

The Alliance discloses neither its members nor its beneficiaries, but some of the details of its structure have leaked out over time. The Los Angeles Times, which was granted exclusive access to the Laguna retreat, reports that Chris Hughes, the Facebook millionaire who owns a failing lifestyle magazine, has joined the ranks of the Alliance, which has “roughly 100 members, who pay annual dues of $30,000,” and who “are required to contribute at least $200,000 to organizations in the group’s portfolio.”

Currency speculator George Soros is perhaps the most famous member of the Alliance. Together, he and his friends have sponsored behemoths such as the Center for American Progress and Media Matters for America, as well as small fry such as Organizing for Action (OFA), the advocacy group affiliated with the White House that so far has failed to meet its fundraising goals or secure a single political victory. Jon Carson, the Obama stooge who runs OFA, pitched the likes of Hughes and Soros at the retreat, as did California’s governor and lieutenant governor. Robert Reich was there too.

One would be hard pressed to think of a more appropriate setting than the Golden State for this confluence of rich Democrats and the hacks they employ. After years of playing second fiddle to the South and its ornery Republicans, California and its Democrats have recaptured their position in the first chair. More than the beautiful weather, the ecological diversity, and the dream factories in Los Angeles, California ought to have a reputation as the financial and ideological epicenter of Barack Obama’s America.

California supplies not only vast amounts of capital to the Democratic Party and its infrastructure, but supplies also the spiritual inspiration for the policies those Democrats seek to impose on the rest of America. The state represents a possible future for the entire nation, and the preferred future of the American left: environmentally stringent, demographically heterogeneous, Pacific-oriented, inequality-obsessed (and inequality-prone), and devoid of conservatives in positions of influence.

[………]  More of Obama’s 2012 campaign haul came from California than from any other state, contributions from the Los Angeles-Long Beach metro area were behind only those from Washington, D.C., and New York City, and the president has drawn ideas and resources and personnel from Hollywood and Silicon Valley.

Best of all for Obama, his relationship to the entertainment and tech industries has undergone hardly any of the scrutiny to which he would be subjected if he were a Republican drawing funds from Wall Street, oil, and gas. In the imaginations of American journalists, so many of whom live on the comparatively dull, and alternately humid and frigid, East Coast, California occupies a special place, a picturesque landscape full of beautiful people who profit from make-believe. Hollywood wealth in particular enjoys immunity from criticism or skeptical inquiry. No wonder why: What every blogger really wants to do is direct.

[………]

It’s March 2011. The Obama lieutenants are there to convince Katzenberg, “who is worth an estimated $800 million,” to contribute to Priorities USA Action, the pro-Obama Super PAC that can raise unlimited amounts of money. Begala says a few lines of dialogue concerning the plagues that will befall the land if Mitt Romney becomes president. Katzenberg, wearing “a V-neck sweater over a T-shirt, slacks, and sneakers—his Hollywood CEO uniform,” barks: “I know all that.” What he doesn’t know is the business plan.

Long story short, Katzenberg “liked what he heard.” This opponent of unregulated political giving put his qualms aside long enough to donate $2 million toward the production of ads accusing Mitt Romney of causing a woman’s death from cancer. [………]

And what a cow! “At 60, Katzenberg, who stands 5-foot-5, cut a lean and fit figure (‘On background, he’s incredibly buff,’ says a friend of his), his clean-shaven face taut and tanned, with a disarming, horsey smile.” Most of that sentence reads as though the DreamWorks publicity department had dictated it, but “horsey”? There goes Kroll’s job as a production assistant on The Croods 2.

Katzenberg is a fascinating subject. A onetime aide to Mayor John Lindsay, the liberal Republican who did so much to make NYC ungovernable in the 1960s, young Squirt played his connections into a job as Barry Diller’s assistant, then as Michael Eisner’s number two at Disney, then as business partner with Steven Spielberg and David Geffen, then most recently as the head of a successful animation studio. Kroll tells this story well, but a little too well. The piece seems like the rough draft of a proposal for Katzenberg: The Authorized Biography. I can’t be the only person who laughed when I read that “Obama officials say they respect Katzenberg not only for his fundraising, but also because he has no specific ‘ask’—no ambassadorship to Switzerland, no regulatory tweak, no nights in the Lincoln Bedroom,” and laughed again when I read that “Katzenberg has said he wants nothing, personally or professionally, in exchange for his support of the president.”

What makes the joke especially sweet is that the sentences that follow describe not one but two things Katzenberg has received “for his support of the president”: A $430 million tax break for Hollywood studios as part of the fiscal cliff deal, and White House support for a distribution deal with China that would open the dictatorship to additional Hollywood blockbusters. When soon-to-be Chinese leader Xi Jinping visited Washington, D.C., in 2012, Kroll writes, Katzenberg “scored a seat next to Xi at a State Department luncheon.” Lucky guy. Surely that $30 million the bell cow had produced had nothing to do with it.

[……..]

Katzenberg political fixer Andy Spahn, a longtime Democratic operative who made his bones on Gary Hart’s presidential campaigns, “insists” to Kroll that “Katzenberg had no discussions with ‘anyone in the Obama administration’ about the Shanghai project, and denies he had any role in the WTO resolution.” Of course not: these things just happen. Somehow, though, they all happen to work out for Jeffrey. “Even when show business is on the losing side, Katzenberg knows how to work the angles.”

Show business lost in 2012 to Silicon Valley, the other province of the Democrats’ California Empire, over the Stop Online Piracy Act, or SOPA, an intellectual property law long sought by Hollywood. The law was shelved when a coalition of Internet activists and tech companies allied against it. Katzenberg and Spielberg may in this instance have been working against fellow Californians such as Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook and Eric Schmidt of Google, but despite their policy differences the West Coast moguls retained their shared sense of cynicism and opportunism.

Even as they shipped animator and manufacturing jobs overseas, Katzenberg and the late Steve Jobs of Apple supported politicians who decried outsourcing. Zuckerberg is so eager to import cheap tech labor that he is funding two pro-immigration reform campaigns, one making conservative arguments and the other making liberal ones. Financiers such as Tom Steyer, who build fortunes from government-subsidized green technologies, lambaste money in politics even as they invest in causes and candidates that will help line their friends’ pockets. And a loser like Al Gore, who lives part time in a luxury apartment in the St. Regis Tower in San Francisco, amasses a fortune mouthing environmental platitudes on the board of Silicon Valley companies, only to sell his media company to oil-and-carbon producing sheikhs.

[……….]

Fifteen years ago, in the Atlantic Monthly, Christopher Caldwell wrote of “The Southern Captivity of the GOP,” and described how “the Republicans have narrowly defined ‘values’ as the folkways of one regional subculture, and have urged their imposition on the rest of the country.” How different the world looks today, when the regional subculture is that of the sun-dappled coast, and the folkways are progressive shibboleths such as amnesty and environmentalism and social liberalism. The Southern Democrats are long dead, the Midwestern and Rust Belt Democrats are dying, and the New England Puritan Democrats have ceded control of their party to the donors in the West. If President Obama and his party leadership have a problem with the California captivity of the Democratic Party, I cannot detect it. What they should not forget, though, is that California is known not only for its starlets and startups but also for its earthquakes.

Essential VDH: Liberal grandees attack the rich while enjoying their lifestyle

by Mojambo ( 56 Comments › )
Filed under Democratic Party, Politics, Progressives, taxation at February 21st, 2013 - 12:00 pm

This fine article amplifies why I have written that it is foolish for Republicans to fall on their swords to protect millionaires, many of whom are progressives.  I am sad to see that The New Republic (a liberal but more of an old fashioned liberal magazine and when Martin Peretz was the Editor, a very pro Israel anti-Totalitarian magazine) was sold to a hard core leftist.

by Victor Davis Hanson

In his first term, President Obama was criticized for trash-talking the 1-percenters while enjoying the aristocracy of Martha’s Vineyard and the nation’s most exclusive golf courses.

Obama never quite squared his accusations that “millionaires and billionaires” had not paid their fair share with his own obvious enjoyment of the perks of “corporate jet owners,” “fat cat bankers,” and Las Vegas junketeers.

Now, that paradox has continued right off the bat in the second term. In the State of the Union, Obama once more went after “the few” and “the wealthiest and the most powerful,” whom he blasted as the “well-off and the well-connected” and the “billionaires with high-powered accountants.”

Like clockwork, the president then jetted to West Palm Beach for yet another golfing vacation at one of the nation’s priciest courses, replete with lessons from a $1,000-an-hour golf pro to improve the presidential putting.

[……..] Meanwhile, below the stratosphere, unemployment rose to 7.9 percent for January — the 49th consecutive month it has been 7.8 percent or higher. The economy shrank in the last quarter of 2012, gas is back to almost $4 a gallon, and the government continues to borrow almost $4 billion a day.

Today, lots of liberal grandees attack the rich and yet do their best to act and live just like them.

Take financial speculator and leftist billionaire George Soros, who is back in the news. Soros is able to fund several progressive think tanks that go after the 1 percent because he is the most successful financial buccaneer of the age — notorious as “the man who broke the Bank of England” and who was convicted of insider trading in France. [……..] That made Soros $1.2 billion in just three months — enough capitalist lucre to keep funding Media Matters and other attack-dog progressive groups for years to come.

Facebook co-founder and Obama campaign organizer Chris Hughes just bought The New Republic and has rebranded the magazine as an unapologetic progressive megaphone.

How odd that hip Facebook just confessed that it paid no federal or California state income taxes for 2012 on its $1.1 billion in pre-tax profits from its U.S. operations alone. Odder still, Facebook will probably receive a federal-tax refund of about $429 million.  [……..]

Perhaps treasury secretary-designate Jack Lew should have a look at Facebook’s tax contortions. He should be familiar with the big-money paper trail, given that Lew himself took a nearly $1 million bonus from Citigroup after it had received billions of dollars in federal funds to cover its gargantuan losses.

Lew, like his tax-dodging predecessor, Timothy Geithner, has a propensity for doing just the opposite of what the president used to preach against.  [……]

Obama also derided dubious Cayman Islands tax shelters. Yet he apparently forgot to tell that to Lew, who invested in a fund registered to the same Potemkin Cayman Islands building that Obama had used as a campaign prop to bash the 1-percenters.

One of the nation’s best-known class warriors is former U.S. representative Jesse Jackson Jr. of Chicago, who for years has damned the wealthy for their ill-gotten gains. He is expected to plead guilty to fraud charges after he and his wife allegedly siphoned off $750,000 from their campaign accounts to pay for an assortment of 1-percenter extravagances such as a $43,000 Rolex watch.

Today’s leftists like the high life as much as their demonized conservative rivals do. The more they damn the bad “millionaires and billionaires,” apparently the less guilt they feel about living it up in Palm Beach or Aspen — paying no taxes, offshoring their profits, or wearing Rolex watches.

The vast growth of the federal government has splashed so much big money around New York and Washington that even muckraking progressives can’t resist. Loud redistributionist rhetoric offers the necessary vaccination shot that makes privileged leftists immune from any criticism — or guilt — over indulging in tax avoidance, billion-dollar speculation, or aristocratic tastes.

George Orwell long ago noticed the same thing: In “Animal Farm” the pig elite loudly damned reactionary humans even as they sought to copy them by walking on two legs.

Hot Air makes common cause with Tranzi Progressive NGO Human Rights Watch

I am no fan of Hot Air. I like many of the commentators over there, like our own Dorian Grey or AZFederalist and others but the people who run the blog are just tranzi progressive propagandists. When the Arab Spring began Hot Air was supporting it knowing full well it was a Muslim Brotherhood led movement. When Qaddafi began to crack down on Al-Qaeda, Hot Air advocated war to remove him. Then when Obama went to  war for the Islamists, they complained he did not do enough. When the blowback from Libya destabilized Mali, Hot Air hypocritically attacked Obama for getting rid of Qaddafi.

Now Hot Air launches an attack on Russia’s “human rights” record.

Hot Air

The title says a “Rights” group. Here is the the article which they link to and notice the name of the organization.

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Authoritarianism increased last year in Russia to levels unseen since the Soviet era with a raft of harsh laws curbing political freedoms and harassment of opposition activists and critics, Human Rights Watch said on Thursday.

Hot Air which is allegedly a Conservative blog is supporting the viewpoint of a Tranzi Progressive NGO!  If people do not know who Human Rights Watch are, well here is what the The Volokh Conspiracy has to say on Human Right Watch’s connections.

Human Rights Watch, bleeding donors because of the various scandals surrounding its reporting on the Middle East [I have a lengthy series of blog posts on HRW and Israel, most of which can be found here, with some more recent ones here], and apparently finding Saudi elites either unavailable or no longer palatable, has found a sugar daddy: George Soros, who is donating $100 million to the organization.

This certainly takes care of HRW’s intermediate funding needs, but also makes HRW’s position as a leading organization of the anti-Israel international left even clearer. Even J Street and Soros parted ways long ago, before J Street even officially launched, because Soros is so toxic to anyone most people sympathetic to Israel, and J Street seeks to represent the left/liberal wing of the pro-Israel community. Gerald Steinberg of NGO Monitor has more.

This is a George Soros supported anti-Capitalist organization. They are also very anti-Israel and have criticized nations such as Colombia, India, the Philippines and various American Corporations. Now as to who Putin is cracking down on, they are Russian Leftist Occupy Wall Street types who want a  Marxist state. The Russia of today is not the Soviet Union. They are a Rightwing Nationalist Capitalist nation with a better tax code than the US and a private Social Security system . Who Putin cracks down on is an internal matter for Russia and as an American it’s none of my concern.

I hope Conservatives realize how Hot Air is pulling a  fast one on them. The fact they are linking to Human Right Watch proves they are not a  Conservative blog. They are a Tranzi Progressive blog with a Globalist agenda. There is nothing Conservative about a blog that supports a George Soros linked group.

Conservatives need to realize the con job Hot Air is pulling on them.
