Border

A section of the controversial US-Mexico border fence expansion project crosses previously pristine desert sands at sunrise on March 14, 2009, between Yuma, Arizona and Calexico, California. The barrier stands 15 feet tall and sits on top of the sand so it can lifted by a machine and repositioned whenever the migrating desert dunes begin to bury it. The almost seven miles of floating fence cost about $6 million per mile to build.

I love the choices of phrase: “controversial… fence” and “previously pristine desert,” and the words “almost” and “about.” There’s nothing controversial about a sovereign nation protecting her borders with a fence or otherwise, and the desert is so pristine that it’s relatively devoid of flora and fauna. It’s pure pristine desolation.

Reports vary as to the the border fence height (15-20 feet), the length and the cost; however, local law enforcement says that it works, and that arrests of drug smugglers and “coyotes” along the Yuma border have dropped from 800 per day down to only 15 – a reduction of over 98 per cent in illegal traffic since 2005.

It also translates to a huge reduction in the related costs of apprehending illegals, detaining and housing them, conducting legal hearings and deportations, and it cripples the Mexican drug cartels as a bonus.

Border fences through accessible regions makes simple economical sense, especially in the long term. How do we pay for it? Reduce the annual budget for the NSA by only 1.5 percent each year for the next 10 years.

Then, if a low skilled workforce is still needed, we revive the successful Bracero Program and ensure that the workers don’t get chumped.

I like the photo. It looks like the work of Christo, only more functional.

Rand Paul calls for the GOP to become inclusive

Since its founding in the 1850’s, the Republican Party has been historically an inclusive party. Sadly in recent times, a nasty element using Illegal Immigration as a pretext has become a powerful factor inside the Party.   Too many Conservatives in their drive to stop Amnesty have embraced these Racialist Marxists. This has enabled the Democrats to put the GOP in a box and has helped the Pro-amnesty cause. This has turn off many including Cuban Americans to the Republican Party.

Rand Paul is warning Republicans about going down this dark and politically suicidal path. He says the GOP should become inclusive and reach out to voters regardless of how they look or dress.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said Friday that the Republican Party needs to reach out to minority voters to have any hope of keeping up with an increasingly diverse electorate.

In an unmistakeable sign that he’s already gearing up for the 2016 presidential race, Paul told attendees at the Iowa Republican Party’s annual Lincoln Day dinner that the GOP needs to broaden its appeal, particularly to black and Latino voters.

“As a party we need to grow bigger and…attract the Latino vote,” Paul said. “This is a very practical thing and I’m not ashamed to admit it. We need to attract the Latino vote, we need to attract the African-American vote. It is somewhat of a gateway issue and we have to change the way we are talking about it and who we are if we are going to attract the Latino vote.”

[….]

He added, “We’re an increasingly diverse nation and I think we do need to reach out to other people that don’t look like us, don’t wear the same clothes, that aren’t exactly who we are. We need to reach out, we’re going to have to do something.”

Rand Paul’s version of the Republican Party would be formidable and competitive nation wide. Sadly because of who his dad is and the hostility of the Pro-Islamist Neo-Con Progressives who influence Conservative media, he will never be President. But his ideology

Conservatives should listen to what Rand Paul is calling for. Its not new, Rand Paul just wants the GOP to return to its roots as an inclusive Party for ALL AMERICANS. Sadly, it will take a major electoral defeat for this to occur since the dark element has empowered itself and has manipulated Conservatives to agree with this Marxist/Eugenics based worldview.

I salute Rand Paul and hope he keeps up the good fight. Hopefully, his version of the Republican Party will emerge to save this nation from the looming Socialist One Party state.

I am convinced that organizations like Numbers USA, bigots like Ann Coulter and Jason Richwire are Marxist plants to destroy The Right’s credibility. Conservatives need to wake up and realize they are being used. You can oppose illegal immigration without hating Hispanics. This is a legal issue, not a racial issue. Don’t fall these Racialist Marxists’ trap.

For the record my stance is That I oppose Amnesty, but support work visas with no path for citizenship after we secure the borders, create a National ID card and establish an efficient Entrance/Exit Visa tracking system. We need to stop Immigration from Islamic countries and give those visas to other Immigrant groups, hence curtailing the need for illegal Immigration.

Poll shows no Hispanic backlash over the illegal Immigration issue!

Progressives and some on the Right are pushing a memo that Hispanics support illegal immigration. A new poll shows Hispanics are divided on illegal immigration and Arizona SB 1070.

Liberals widely believed in 2008 that Arizona’s new anti-immigration law would spark a backlash against the Republicans who backed it. The backlash never came, though, and the Supreme Court indicated Wednesday that the law may stand.

Will that scenario replay for likely GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney? Liberal activists have tagged his immigration stance, calling for illegals to “self deport,” as a serious drag. But a closer look shows that Latino voters are conflicted over immigration and also deem it a relatively low-priority issue.

[….]

Almost as many Latinos support Arizona’s law, 47%, as oppose it, 49%, according to a recent Quinnipiac poll. Asked if they thought the Supreme Court should toss the law, Latinos favored keeping it, 45%-43%. For all Americans, the numbers are 62%-27% in favor of keeping it.

An October 2010 study by Pew found that just 29% of Latinos said illegal immigrants’ impact was positive vs. 31% who said the impact was negative. Another 30% saw no impact.

Among native-born Hispanics, 36% said illegal immigration had had a negative effect, while only 24% said it was positive.

[….]

A narrow plurality of all Latinos, 48%-46%, back increased border patrols. A majority, 58%, favors a national identity card.

This throws cold water cold water of the Progressive and Nativist myth that Hispanics want amnesty or open borders and will go against the GOP over SB1070.  what many Hispanics don’t like is to be lumped in with the illegals, who are viewed as peasant trash by many Middle Class Hispanics. Many don’t like Hispanic being synonymous with illegal. Hispanics don’t get mad at policies that crack down against illegals. This shows the GOP has an opening with the community and we are all not amnesty supporters.

Immigration from Mexico and Latin America falls

by Phantom Ace ( 3 Comments › )

Due to a combination of a declining American economy, declining Latin American birthrates and Improving Latin economies, Immigration from those nations have fallen sharply. In the case of Mexico, it has crawled to zero. This changes the whole equation in the illegal immigration debate. If the legal numbers are down, that means those who are coming here illegally now are not doing it to seek jobs. They are coming here for drug distribution. If there are available visas slots from Mexico, that means those seeking work are not coming.

Immigration from Mexico to the United States has slowed down toward zero: that’s the thrust of an excellent story by Damien Cave in the New York Times (complete with excellent interactive graphics). I plan to write a column on that subject, but I can’t resist pointing out that I have been predicting this trend for more than two years now.

Examples:

June 7, 2009 blogpost. “There’s a need on all sides to rethink immigration policy. Both advocates and opponents of comprehensive bills have based their arguments on the assumption that large-scale immigration from Latin America and parts of Asia will continue indefinitely. But what if that assumption is false? Yes, our current recession is presumably temporary. But there is at least one other reason to assume that immigration from Latin America may not resume at previous levels: birth rates in Mexico and other Latin countries fell sharply around 1990.” The decline in Mexican birth rates is mentioned in the New York Times story.

This takes away a weapon from the Amnesty crowd. I have in my personal observation a decline in legal immigration from Latin American nations. As mentioned declining birthrates lowers the immigration poll. The improved economies in Latin America give people an incentive to stay home. Hence the call for amnesty is nonsense at this point. It’s not workers that will be legalized, they can apply for visas now due to the declining numbers. It will be cartel lackeys and drug runners.

On a flip side, the United States has a set quota of visas for Immigrants to enter per year. If Latin and Asian immigration have declined, who do you think are filling up the slots?

You know the answer.
