Muslim group’s economic session draws opponents
Economic session? That’s what they are calling it these days?

Hizb ut-Tahrir America (HTA) has indicated that it has transitioned from its covert status to a public phase of operations by issuing an announcement, signed in its own name, that it will host a conference in July 2009 to support the establishment of a Caliphate. The promotional video can be viewed on YouTube. The event, titled “The Fall of Capitalism and Rise of Islam,” is scheduled for Sunday, July 19th, 2009, at the Aqsa School in Bridgeview, Illinois.

Indonesian Muslim leaders urge not to link terror with Islam

Tarbiyah Islamiyah Organization chairman Basri Bermanda said that terrorist acts were against Islam but they could be done by quarters using the label of Islam or by non-Muslims who wanted to tarnish the image of Islam. He therefore refused to accept that Islam was identical with the symbol of violence and cruelty. “Islam teaches peace and goodness,” he said.

Court Reverses Ruling Dealing With Visa of Muslim Scholar

The scholar, Tariq Ramadan, 46, a Swiss academic, was to become a tenured professor at the University of Notre Dame, but the Bush administration revoked his visa in 2004 and again denied him a visa in 2006. The government cited evidence that from 1998 to 2002, he donated about $1,300 to a Swiss-based charity that the Treasury Department later categorized as a terrorist organization because it provided money to Hamas, the militant Palestinian group.

While TIME may call him an innovator, Daniel Pipes lays out the reasons he was barred in the first place.

Terrorism strikes two American Hotels Overseas

Two American hotels have been hit by terrorist attack in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels have been hit. At least 18 are dead, 8 of which are Americans. The blasts came at almost the exact same time, which makes it pretty clear that it is the same group behind both bombings. Likely not Amish.

So far, no word from the President, but I suspect a regret at the loss of life and nothing more than some luke-warm words against the people who did this.

Voices From Around The World The Media Missed

When George W. Bush or his administration visited a foreign country, the news feeds were flooded with pictures and articles regarding the Anti-Bush protests and other similar stories to create a feeling that there was an Anti-Americanism being fanned across the World because of Bush’s policies.

Although there might be a valid argument for that point-of-view (one I cannot verify or reject insofar that I must rely on the news), the way that the mainstream media handles Obama and his administration’s visits to foreign nations (and in general) evidences the media bias, and the power the media has to shape the story, and thus the public’s response, and therefore the future.   The election of President Barack Hussein Obama made that very evident.

Below are pictures from Obama’s trip across the world, and those of his administration that you wouldn’t have seen otherwise.  (place cursor over picture for description)

Islamists Issue Fatwa Against Yoga Festival

An eight-day international yoga festival opened Tuesday on the Indonesian holiday island of Bali, causing the country’s top Muslim leaders to issue a fatwa against the exercise.

yogaYoga, an ancient Indian aid to meditation dating back thousands of years, is a popular form of physical exercise and stress relief in Indonesia.

But the Indonesian Council of Ulemas, the top religious body in the mainly Muslim country, issued a fatwa in January banning Indonesian Muslims from all forms of yoga that involve Hindu religious rituals such as chanting mantras.

It said performing yoga purely for the physical benefits was however acceptable.

The move raised the hackles of religious moderates and civil libertarian groups who accused the council of meddling in affairs over which it had no authority.

Religious edicts issued by the ulemas are not legally binding on Muslims but it is considered sinful to ignore them.

Andrini said organisers were not afraid to hold the festival at the Bajrasandi Bali Monument in Denpasar — the capital of the Hindu-majority island of Bali — despite the fatwa.

“I’m a Muslim myself. Our kind of yoga, which is called Patanjali, involves movement and breathing. People may recite their own mantra or prayer according to their faith,” she said.

“We want to make Bali a place for spiritual tourism. Visitors will seek the spiritual aspect first rather than leisure.”

Andrini expected about 500 people from around the world, including the United States, Germany, Sweden, Japan and China, would participate in the festival.
