A policy on Egypt— support General al-Sisi

The choice is so obvious, and as Mr. Stephens writes, this is a zero-sum game. It is either the military or the Brotherhood. Lindsey Graham and John McCain are two disgraces.

by Bret Stephens

On the subject of Egypt: Is it the U.S. government’s purpose merely to cop an attitude? Or does it also intend to have a policy?

An attitude “deplores the violence” and postpones a military exercise, as President Obama did from Martha’s Vineyard the other day. An attitude sternly informs the Egyptian military, as Sen. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.) did, that it is “taking Egypt down a dark path, one that the United States cannot and should not travel with them.” An attitude calls for the suspension of U.S. aid to Egypt, as everyone from Rand Paul (R., Ky.) to Patrick Leahy (D., Vt.) has.

An attitude is a gorgeous thing. It is a vanity accountable to a conscience. But an attitude has no answer for what the U.S. does with or about Egypt once the finger has been wagged and the aid withdrawn. When Egypt decides to purchase Su-35s from Russia (financed by Saudi Arabia) and offers itself as another client to Vladimir Putin because the Obama administration has halted deliveries of F-16s, will Mr. Graham wag a second finger at Moscow?

Perhaps he will. Our diminished influence in Egypt may soon be reduced to nil, but at least our hands will be clean.

Releasing deposed President Mohammed Morsi and other detained Brotherhood leaders may be realistic, but it is not desirable—unless you think Aleksandr Kerensky was smart to release the imprisoned Bolsheviks after their abortive July 1917 uprising.

Restoring the dictatorship-in-the-making that was Mr. Morsi’s elected government is neither desirable nor realistic—at least if the millions of Egyptians who took to the streets in June and July to demand his ouster have anything to do with it.

Bringing the Brotherhood into some kind of inclusive coalition government in which it accepts a reduced political role in exchange for calling off its sit-ins and demonstrations may be desirable, but it is about as realistic as getting a mongoose and a cobra to work together for the good of the mice.

What’s realistic and desirable is for the military to succeed in its confrontation with the Brotherhood as quickly and convincingly as possible. Victory permits magnanimity. It gives ordinary Egyptians the opportunity to return to normal life.  [……..]

Days of rage in Cairo.

And it beats the alternatives. Alternative No. 1: A continued slide into outright civil war resembling Algeria’s in the 1990s. Alternative No. 2: Victory by a vengeful Muslim Brotherhood, which will repay its political enemies richly for the injuries that were done to it. That goes not just for military supremo Abdel Fattah Al Sisi and his lieutenants, but for every editor, parliamentarian, religious leader, businessman or policeman who made himself known as an opponent of the Brotherhood.

Question for Messrs. Graham, Leahy and Paul: Just how would American, Egyptian, regional or humanitarian interests be advanced in either of those scenarios? The other day Sen. Paul stopped by the Journal’s offices in New York and stressed his opposition to any U.S. policy in Syria that runs contrary to the interests of that country’s Christians. What does he suppose would happen to Egypt’s Copts, who have been in open sympathy with Gen. Sisi, if the Brotherhood wins?

Of course there’s the argument that brute repression by the military energizes the Brotherhood. Maybe. Also possible is that a policy of restraint emboldens the Brotherhood. The military judged the second possibility more likely. That might be mistaken, but at least it’s based on a keener understanding of the way Egyptians think than the usual Western clichés about violence always begetting violence.

There’s also an argument that since our $1.3 billion in military aid hasn’t gotten Gen. Sisi to take our advice, we may as well withdraw it. But why should we expect him to take bad advice? Politics in Egypt today is a zero-sum game: Either the military wins, or the Brotherhood does. If the U.S. wants influence, it needs to hold its nose and take a side.

As it is, the people who now are most convinced that Mr. Obama is a secret Muslim aren’t tea party mama grizzlies. They’re Egyptian secularists. To persuade them otherwise, the president might consider taking steps to help a government the secularists rightly consider an instrument of their salvation.  […….]

It would be nice to live in a world in which we could conduct a foreign policy that aims at the realization of our dreams—peace in the Holy Land, a world without nuclear weapons, liberal democracy in the Arab world. A better foreign policy would be conducted to keep our nightmares at bay: stopping Iran’s nuclear bid, preventing Syria’s chemical weapons from falling into terrorist hands, and keeping the Brotherhood out of power in Egypt. But that would require an administration that knew the difference between an attitude and a policy.

US Embassy stormed in Tunis and al-Qaeda flag raised

The Arab Spring which was hailed as a great Democracy movement by the Obama Regime and the Republican Establishment has reared it’s true nature. In the wake of the 9/11 assassination of the US ambassador to Libya, there were more protests again this Friday. Encouraged by apologies from the Obama Regime about a hysterical movie mocking Mohamed as the pedophile he is, there were more protests today. The German Embassy in the Sudan was set on fire.  Even worse, the US Embassy in Tunisia was breached and the Black flag of al-Qaeda/Muslim Brotherhood/Salafists was raised on its ground!

According to CNN, Tunisian protesters have breached the U.S. Embassy in Tunis.

They have lowered the American flag from its pole and are raising the black flag of the protestors in its place.

This information was provided to CNN by an eyewitness.

Hundreds of protesters headed to the neighborhood that’s home to U.S. Embassy in Tunisia’s capital earlier on Friday, the eyewitness told CNN.

I wonder what Barack Obama, John McCain, Hillary Clinton, Ms. Lindsey Graham, Joe Lieberman, George W. Bush and Condi Rice have to say about this? These clowns supported the whole Middle East Democracy nonsense. Them and our elites in Washington are responsible for this monster now unleashed in that region. If Mitt Romney was smart, he would distance himself from supporting the Arab Spring and say that these nations will be treated as hostile nations.

Thank you Obama. You really did keep your promise of standing by the Muslims. John McCain, you really are scum for giving Obama cover for this. The Wilsonian ideology of Democracy spreading and nation building has failed! The Arab Spring is the rebirth of the Caliphate!

McCain’s Libyan Heroes out of control

The darlings of the Progressive Democrats and Wilsonian Republicans are out of control. This assessment was done by the Tranzi Progressive organization, Amnesty International. After being lauded as heroes by John McCain and his girlfriend, Lindsey Graham, their ugly nature comes out. These are the same thugs with links to Al-Qaeda and one of the groups the False Messiah wants to give 800 Million to.

(CNN) — Armed militias in Libya are committing human rights abuses with impunity, threatening to destabilize the country and hindering its efforts to rebuild, Amnesty International said Thursday.

Militias have tortured detainees, targeted migrants and displaced entire communities in revenge attacks, according to a report the organization released a year after the start of popular uprisings that eventually ended Moammar Gadhafi’s 42-year rule.

“Hundreds of armed militias, widely hailed in Libya as heroes for their role in toppling the former regime, are largely out of control,” the report says.

Detainees at 10 facilities used by militia in central and western Libya told representatives from Amnesty International this year that they had been tortured or abused. Several detainees said they confessed to crimes they had not committed in order to stop the torture, Amnesty International said.

If Amnesty International, which is usually Pro-Islamic, is condemning the Libyan Islamists that should ring alarm bells. The media no longer reports on Libya. In fact, the Regime of the False Messiah claims this is a victory. Well they are not lying. It’s a victory for the unborn Caliphate done at the behest of their Pasha: Barack Hussein Obama.

Sharia Law at the Center of the New Libyan Constitution

Once again NATO bombs a country and the result is another Islamic state. Although Libyans are majority Muslim the nation was not an Islamic state. Col. Mumar Qaddafi for all his faults was a secular ruler. He gave women equal rights and was an enemy of Al-Qaeda, the Muslim Brotherhood and Hizb’allah. However this didn’t matter. To many western elites spreading Democracy through military intervention  is almost a religious belief, consequences be dammed.

Thanks to NATO and cheerleaders like McCain and Lindsey Graham, Libya is set to become an Islamic state. A draft of the Libyan constitution has Sharia Law and the Koran as the source of its legal system. Qaddafi’s secular laws will now be thrown out. This means women’s rights in Libya are toast.

Much of the document describes political institutions that will sound familiar to citizens of Western liberal democracies, including rule of law, freedom of speech and religious practice, and a multi-party electoral system.

But despite the Lockean tenor of much of the constitution, the inescapable clause lies right in Part 1, Article 1: “Islam is the Religion of the State, and the principal source of legislation is Islamic Jurisprudence (Sharia).” Under this constitution, in other words, Islam is law. That makes other phrases such as “there shall be no crime or penalty except by virtue of the law” and “Judges shall be independent, subject to no other authority but law and conscience” a bit more ominous.

Get ready for the Islamic Republic of Libya brought to you by your tax dollars. But hey, The UK and France are going to get their oil contracts and once again we get nothing out of a war. Isn’t the Arab Spring grand? Just Ask McCain, he’ll tell you!
