The Obama campaign is pulling back in Florida, Virginia and North Carolina

When Suffolk Polling said they would stop polling Florida, Virginia and North Carolina, I thought they were jumping the gun. It seems they were onto something. In the polls released, Romney seems to have those 3 states on lock. The Obama campaign is now pulling back from those 3 states to defend Ohio, Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada. This is a sign that Romney has solidified traditional Republican states.

What also became clear after the dust began to settle from the rumble on Long Island was the electoral map has narrowed and Obama’s team, while conceding nothing publicly, is circling the wagons around Ohio, Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada. Plouffe said that Obama remains strong in all four states, but he would not discuss the specifics of internal polling or voter-contact analytics, saying only that Obama has “significant leads” in all four places.

It is uncharacteristic of Team Obama to concede any terrain, but Plouffe offered no such assurances about Obama’s position in North Carolina, Virginia, or Florida. Romney advisers have seen big gains in all three states and now consider wins likely, although not guaranteed, in all three. They are similarly upbeat about prospects in Colorado but not confident enough to predict victory. That Plouffe left Colorado off his list of states where Obama’s leading and can withstand a Romney surge might be telling.

According to RealClearPolitics, Obama currently has 201 of the 270 electoral votes needed to win. But that doesn’t give Obama electoral votes from Pennsylvania (20), Michigan (16), or Wisconsin (10). Of these three, Romney advisers believe that only one, Wisconsin, is even theoretically winnable. Obama advisers believe they will win all three. That would put Obama at 247 electoral votes. If Obama wins Ohio (18), Iowa (6), Nevada (6), and New Hampshire (4) he would claim 281 electoral votes. That means he could afford to lose New Hampshire and Nevada and still eke out a razor-thin victory of 271 electoral votes.

Romney, according to RCP, has 191 electoral votes. If you add Florida (29), North Carolina (15), and Virginia (13), that brings his total to 248 electoral votes. Add Colorado (9) –which neither campaign is prepared to claim or concede–and Romney’s total rises to 257 electoral votes. If Romney wins Ohio (18) in addition to these states, he would have 275 electoral votes. If Romney loses Ohio, he would need to win Iowa, Nevada, and New Hampshire to reach 273 electoral votes. There is a scenario where Romney could lose Ohio and New Hampshire but win Iowa and Nevada and one electoral vote from the 2nd Congressional District in Maine (the state allocates electoral votes by district vote) and capture the bare minimum of 270 electoral votes.

Living in Florida I can testify that I am not seeing many Obama ads anymore. Up until 3 weeks ago, it was a non stop barrage of Obama ads. Now I barely see them and its mostly Romney ads. Speaking to some of my Republican party contacts, they have told me that the Obama campaign has cut back on Florida. The Obama team is sending Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel to campaign for Obama. This is another sign of the low priority Florida has.

It’s coming down to Ohio, Wisconsin, Nevada, New Hampshire and Colorado. Even though polls show Pennsylvania close, the Romney campaign has decided not to contest it. Instead they are focusing on the 5 states I mentioned previously. I feel this is a mistake since Romney has the resources to put PA. in play. Either way, it’s Obama who is now on the defensive and resorting to demagogue language.

Ediface of Narcissism

The Demo☭rat National Convention festivities have begun…what with ONLY 300 Mohammedans at last Friday’s Jumah. Things are starting to go awry, and the delegates haven’t even taken their seats yet:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A torrential downpour that struck Charlotte Saturday afternoon damaged the Mount Rushmore-style sand sculpture bust of President Обама — an ominous beginning to what many fear is a plagued convention.
Workers were trying Saturday afternoon to reform the base of the sculpture, built from sand brought in from Myrtle Beach, S.C., pounding and smoothing out the sand that had washed off the facade of the waist-up rendering of the chief executive.
The sand sculpture was protected from above, and Mr. Обама’s face didn’t see too much damage. But the storm was so strong that its heavy winds blew the rain sideways, pelting the president’s right side and leaving the sand pockmarked and completely erasing his right elbow.

I don’t think it’s too far off the mark to state that God does have a sense of humor, which He manifests in the most intriguing ways!

‘Violent Jihad’: Only Half the Story

Two national stories this week clearly demonstrate that the Jihadist ideology of radical Islamists is not restricted to Islamic nations. In two separate cases, one in North Carolina and another in Virginia, individuals raised in the United States were actively conspiring and training to wage Jihad against American interests.

The threat is homegrown. It is being born and bred within our borders. That the arrests continue to take place is a testament to our Homeland Security personnel, but it should in no way be a comfort to those who want to live a safe and free existence in the United States.

The headline that ran in the Associated Press clearly summarizes the radical threat that rears its evil head with ever-increasing frequency: “Seven NC men charged with plotting ‘violent jihad.’”

The LA Times report on the Carolina arrests cites Owen D. Harris, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Charlotte, N.C., division, which led the investigation. “These arrests today show there are people living among us, in our communities in North Carolina and around the U.S. that are honing their skills to carry out acts of murder and mayhem.”

The AP and Reuters quote George E.B. Holding, the U.S. attorney for eastern North Carolina. “These charges hammer home the point that terrorists and their supporters are not confined to the remote regions of some far away land but can grow and fester right here at home.”

These were two news items covered by the national media, but the issue of radical Islam within our own borders is certainly not news.

The Third Jihad: Radical Islam’s Vision for America, a recently released documentary film, identifies the scope of the threat facing America from within our own borders. The film asserts that the type of behavior exposed in the above cases is being spread through a wide network embedded across the U.S.

To be clear, the majority of Muslims in the world, and particularly within the United States, are in no way prepared to engage in – or encourage – acts of violence.

Yet a small, very dangerous minority has adopted an extreme ideology that identifies American values and western freedoms as the clear and present enemy. And when adopted, this ideology is often carried by its holder to the death.

In the Virginia case, Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, a Falls Church resident was re-sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of plotting with al-Qaeda to commit “a series of September 11-style attacks and assassinations in the United States,” including a plot to kill then-President George W. Bush.

U.S. District Judge Gerald Bruce Lee upheld an appeal to increase the prison sentence to life, stating, “I cannot put the safety of the American citizenry at risk.”

As one of the reasons for his ruling, Judge Lee cited Abu Ali’s “unwillingness to renounce the beliefs that led to his terrorist activities.”

These are simply two cases which have hit the papers in the same week. And The Third Jihad outlines others as well. But while the dozens of threats detailed in the feature-length documentary may pose a risk to our national security, the battleground of radicals has expanded beyond acts of violence. Radicals continue their fight with constant attacks on our freedoms and democracy. These attacks take place daily in our courtrooms, our press, our banks, our prisons, and even in our children’s schools.

Radical ideology is being advanced inside America by spiritual leaders, terrorist organizations, foreign governments and local non-profits. Their end-game is transforming America into an Islamic nation. It is what The Third Jihad refers to as “Cultural Jihad” – not as dramatic as a terror plot, but just as dangerous to America’s future.

All Americans should understand that the threats identified in the cases above are no longer isolated. They are part of a growing effort to undermine the American way of life. By learning more about the nature of the threat, we can better stand up to protect the values that have made America the greatest country in the world.
