“3 chords, 2 minutes, no bullshit.”

Top comment on that UToobage vid:

3 chords, 2 minutes, no bullshit 🙂

Commercial music sucked big green donkey Johnsons in the 70s, with way too much over-produced garbage IMO (think ELP). In 1977 a showcase “Rockumentary” called Live at CBGB was making the college circuit. The Ramones got my attention for the same reason that the Utoob commenter stated; they were paying respect to early rock and roll. They weren’t smug, and didn’t play to each other – they played OUT.

The second UToobage comment addressed the action just after 1:00. THAT describes my mental state these days, except when I post something especially for all loyal Blogmockrateers on The Overnight Open Thread.

Gimma Shelta

The Stones‘ “Gimme Shelter” by multinational conglomeration Playing For Change, created by American producer Mark Johnson, is very cool. Watch for a cameo by Taj Mahal.

I find it odd that they would choose that particular song, as it’s forever linked to a free rock festival in 1969 that ended up in tragedy at Altamont Speedway, California, much of it due to the actions of the hired “police” – Sonny Barger & The Hell’s Angels.

The event is best known for having been marred by considerable violence, including one homicide and three accidental deaths: two caused by a hit-and-run car accident and one by drowning in an irrigation canal. Four births were reported during the event. Scores were injured, numerous cars were stolen and then abandoned, and there was extensive property damage.

On the other hand, “Gimme Shelter” is one of the classic rock songs from the era. h/t to Haysoos for posting “Playing For Change” on DoD recently, because it serves as a last minute topic for the Saturday Night Edition of

Sentients Flock To Chik-Fil-A

Here’s the premise:
Because Chik-Fil-A’s parent company supports traditional religious values and donated money to an organization that promotes heterosexual marriage, they must be against homosexuality; therefore we should boycott the independent franchise owners and send them and their employees to the poorhouse for the religious opinions of someone they likely have never met.

Pheew. That’s an enormous steaming pile of illogic to begin with, and it’s obviously a thinly veiled attack on the US Constitution and a test of the validity of the First Amendment. It has nothing at all to do with poking bungholes or spanking in tongues. Where is the ACLU to protect these innocent restauranteurs and those they employ, comprised of all races, creeds AND sexual orientation, against such blatant and illegal political thuggery?

If the president of a company said something so boneheaded as to offend every living person in the world – and the Owners of Chik-Fil-A never uttered a word against homosexuality, in fact their public statements said the opposite –  isn’t he/she allowed to speak his/her opinion? Why penalize 2nd and 3rd parties, the franchisees and those they employ, with a speech-squelching boycott? Why even penalize the person who may or may not have made such a remark?

The Bill Of Rights BEGINS with The First Amendment; it wasn’t an afterthought. That some elected officials, including those holding high positions of authority, would even consider supporting such abasement of the concepts of free enterprise and Freedom of Speech is abhorrent. Make no mistake. This is one more small step designed to squelch dissent.

Yeah, I know – preaching to the choir. The image above has nothing to do with my commentary, except that it’s the mental picture Progressives conjure of Conservatives, and works as a visual introduction to
The Overnight Open Thread.

FIG. 1 of the apparatus illustrates a preferred embodiment of the present invention and is designated generally as 11. Base plate 1 is a solid metal form bent at a 90 degree angle on one end which allows for the base plate 1 to be mounted using screw holes 2 perpendicular to a stationary object such as a pole, tree, or trailer hitch. A toggle clamp comprising base 4, which is attached to pivoting arm 7 at screw 12; stationary arm 5, which is attached to base 4 at screw 13; metal plate 14, which is attached to pivoting arm 7 at screw 15; and handle 6 which is molded to pivoting arm 7. Base 4 is attached to base plate 1 using bolts 3. An additional bolt 3 is not visible in FIG. 1, however base 4 is attached using four bolts. A metal tube 9 is connected to stationary arm 5 using bolt 8. A metal tube 10 is welded to base plate 1. The squirrel skinning apparatus 11 is secured to a stationary object using screw holes 2 and the toggle clamp is engaged by moving pivoting arm 7 perpendicular to base plate 1 using handle 6. Metal plate 14 presses against stationary arm 5 moving stationary arm 5 in a downward motion parallel to base plate 1 and locks the toggle clamp. When the toggle clamp is locked, metal tube 9 and metal tube 10 are pressed tightly together. The apparatus aids in the skinning of the squirrel. First, the squirrel’s hair is pulled away from a spot just above where the tail joins the body and a cut that leaves a strip of skin uncut at the top edge of the tail is made. The squirrel’s tail is placed in between metal tube 9 and metal tube 10 and the clamp is locked as described above. The skin of the squirrel is peeled back and gripped in the area where it has been previously cut and is then pulled down to complete the skinning operation. The skin and tail remain in between the metal tubes and the rest of the squirrel is completely removed from the skin in two pieces. [via]
