400,000-year-old human DNA ads twist to Human origins

I am not a believer in Darwinism, 6 day Creationism or any absolute theory on the origins of man. I totally believe God influenced and had a hand in our development, but that there were other factors as well. Many civilizations have legends of Human beings that came from the sky and mated with Earth Humans.  Now a new discovery of a new hominid species from 400,000 years ago might validate these legends. Researchers have uncovered a new species of humans in a cave in Northern Spain. The DNA sequences of this humans suggest that another unknown species of humans mated with our early ancestors.

The oldest human DNA ever recovered is throwing scientists for a loop: The 400,000-year-old genetic material comes from bones that have been linked to Neanderthals in Spain — but its signature is most similar to that of a different ancient human population from Siberia, known as the Denisovans.

The researchers who did the analysis said their findings show an “unexpected link” between two of our extinct cousin species. Follow-up studies could crack the mystery — not only for the early humans who lived in the cave complex known as Sima de los Huesos (Spanish for “Pit of Bones”), but for other mysterious populations in the Pleistocene epoch.

[….]

As anthropologists are getting better at extracting DNA from ancient bones, genetic mysteries are cropping up more frequently: Last month, researchers at scientific meetings talked about not-yet-published findings that hinted at interbreeding among Neanderthals, Denisovans and previously unknown populations of early humans.

[….]

The other scenario is that an as-yet-undetermined population interbred with ancestors of the Spanish cave-dwellers as well as the Denisovans. Meyer, Pääbo and their colleagues tentatively favor that scenario. “Based on the fossil record, more than one evolutionary lineage may have existed in Europe during the Middle Pleistocene,” they write.

This mysterious species of humans could very well be the people many civilization claim fell from the sky. One must keep an open mind to the roots of man.

Possible 2,000 year old portrait of Jesus found

If verified, this could be one of the biggest finds since the Dead Sea scroll. A 2,000 year old booklet that has an image that looks like how Jesus would traditionally been portrayed as. The booklets were found in a cave near the village of Saham in Jordan.

The image is eerily familiar: a bearded young man with flowing curly hair. After lying for nearly 2,000 years hidden in a cave in the Holy Land, the fine detail is difficult to determine. But in a certain light it is not difficult to interpret the marks around the figure’s brow as a crown of thorns.

The extraordinary picture of one of the recently discovered hoard of up to 70 lead codices – booklets – found in a cave in the hills overlooking the Sea of Galilee is one reason Bible historians are clamouring to get their hands on the ancient artefacts.

If genuine, this could be the first-ever portrait of Jesus Christ, possibly even created in the lifetime of those who knew him.

[….]

Astonishingly, one of the booklets appears to bear the words ‘Saviour of Israel’ – one of the few phrases so far translated.

The owner of the cache is Bedouin trucker Hassan Saida who lives in the Arab village of Umm al-Ghanim, Shibli. He has refused to sell the booklets but two samples were sent to

Let’s see what the tests results are. If confirmed, this is a huge archeological find.

~Open Thread: Friday Evening “Jerusalem & Temple Mount” Edition~

Shabbat starts very early these days, and I have way too much work before then to put together the regular Shabbat/Friday Evening post.

Instead, I present you with this informative and yet still spiritual article regarding The Temple Mount, and the Arab onslaught to erase the Jewish people’s historical connection to it.  This is definitely worth saving for future use as Jerusalem, and the Temple Mount are bound to become the topic in the future.

In his 1925 autobiography, Mein Kampf, Adolph Hitler wrote that people would assume that an outrageous lie must be true because no one would have the audacity to have made it up. Later, that propaganda technique evolved into: If a big lie is repeated enough times it will become widely accepted as truth.

This bit of Nazi propaganda is being used today by the Palestinians. Their Big Lie is preached from the pulpits of the mosques and in the classrooms of their madrasas — and more and more of the untutored masses are believing it.

What is the Palestinian Big Lie? Palestinian Authority Mufti Ikrama Sabri was quoted in the Palestinian daily Al-Ayyam (November 22, 1997) as saying that the Western Wall is part of the Al-Aksa Mosque and the Jews have no connection with it. The same newspaper (July 18, 1997) reported that Hamad Yusef, head of the Institution for the Rejuvenation of the Palestinian Heritage, referred to the “false historical claim of the Jews in the holy city, a claim which they were unable to prove in all of the (archaeological) excavations conducted by foreign groups for the past hundred years.”

In other words, the Jewish people have no historical connection with the Temple Mount, including the Western Wall, or with any part of old Jerusalem. No archaeological evidence has ever shown otherwise. So they claim.

First Israelite Sites Built After Exodus Found?

Once again, archaeologists have found tangible evidence that leans towards the Bible’s accounts of History.  Of course however, nothing will ever be enough scientific proof for some skeptics.  Nonetheless, this discovery is very exciting, and quite timely!

A Haifa University archaeologist on Monday said he has unearthed structures in the shape of human feet believed to have been erected by the Israelites upon their initial entry to the Land of Canaan.

Prof. Adam Zertal said that the large compounds discovered in the Jordan Valley were “the first sites to have been built by the Israelites upon entering Canaan and manifest the biblical notion of claiming ownership of the land by setting feet on it.”

Prof. Zertal’s excavation team uncovered five large foot-shaped compounds that he identifies as the biblical site of Gilgal.

Most contemporary archaeologists do not consider the Israelite Exodus from Egypt and the conquest of Israel to be verifiable historical events.   Zertal is one of the few Israeli archaeologists who claim to have found archaeological evidence supporting the Israelite entrance to Canaan.

Zertal’s most famous discovery is a compound on Mount Ebal near Nablus, which he identified as the site of the Covenant ceremony depicted in the biblical Book of Joshua.  Other archaeologists have identified that site as a watchtower.

Zertal has also recently claimed to have found clay markings unique to early Israelites, around the time of the conquest of Canaan described in the Bible.

According to the Book of Joshua, the Israelites arrived at Gilgal after having crossed the Jordan River. Some researchers have claimed that Gilgal is named after the collection of stones at the site that were used during various rituals, but no archaeological evidence has been discovered to support that claim.

Since 1990, five sites shaped like human feet have been excavated in the Jordan Valley. All five date back to the early Iron Age (12th to 13th centuries B.C.E.), and their shapes indicate that they were used as communal gathering places.

Zertal said that the foot-shaped sites were used during ceremonies following the Israelites’ entry into the Land of Canaan.  He added that the concept of the Jewish pilgrimage to Jerusalem on three major holidays (known as “aliya la’regel” or ascending on foot) also originates from the foot-shaped sites in the Jordan Valley and Mount Ebal.
