Good Riddance Arlen!

At the top of this post are two video clips. The first is Part 1 of Arlen Specter’s whining good bye speech to the Senate. During this speech, Specter complained that, unless elected officials governed in accordance with the wishes of the governed, they might be voted out of office. He complained that the Judicial Branch, a co-equal branch in our system of checks and balances, would not allow our Legislative Branch unlimited authority in its quest to disregard the Constitution. He called our electoral process cannibalistic, and lamented the fact that we the people were able to see what our elected officials were up to, and actually had the temerity to hold those officials accountable for their actions. He blamed that accountability for his own electoral defeat, and took the further step to actually state that such accountability, on which our nation is actually based, was counter productive to our own well being. The second video clip shows Arlen’s Town Hall Meeting during the summer of 2009, and coincidentally the reason for his electoral demise.

Let me say right here, thank you to the people of Pennsylvania for removing Mr. Specter from office. Mr. Specter’s farewell speech illuminates one thing clearly. Arlen feels as though his seat at the table of power is his birthright. He feels entitled to being a member of the ruling class. He is somewhat bitter at the prospect of reality proving once again that the people he governs do indeed have a say in how they are going to be governed. The electoral process is not cannibalistic, it is our recourse. During the summer of 2009, Mr. Specter and 534 other federal legislators faced angry voters back home, away from Washington, who told them in very clear terms, do not pass Obamacare. Stop these pork laden Stimulus packages which stimulate nothing. We want nothing more to do with bailouts. The spin doctors went to work feverishly to tell us that the town halls we were attending were actually, “AstroTurf.” In the meantime, SEIU and Acorn thugs were being flown and bussed around the country to show support for the very things the rest of us were against. So, in 2010, the Specter’s of the governing ranks were fired. I have watched Arlen’s speech a couple of times, with a certain amount of satisfaction. Not at Arlen’s obvious pain, but with the knowledge that We the People can indeed do something about it.

Arlen has been the greatest example of Rino around. A registered Democrat his entire life, Arlen knew the competition was too tough to win a Democrat primary in Philadelphia. He switched parties, but never his views. Yes, he had the R next to his name, but he voted against the GOP on every single vote that mattered. In 2010, the conservatives in this country stated very clearly that we are tired of it. I also must disagree with Angry Arlen on another point. It is not counter productive for compromise to not be accomplished because people stick to their principles. It is healthy, healthy that is for the elected to realize that they are accountable to the people who elected them. For those in Office now, capitulate at your peril.

Charles Johnson again bashes GOP by agreeing with Arlen Specter

Charles continues his Jihad against Republicans. He posts Specters interview where he sates the GOP is now Far right. Charles has been hammering this theme on his Cult blog. This is just another example of his shift to the Left.

On “Meet the Press” this morning, Senator Arlen Specter said a big factor in his decision to become a Democrat was that the Republican Party had moved “far to the right.”

Specter told David Gregory on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he had determined “with polls and a lot of personal contact” that his reelection prospects as a Republican were “bleak.”

But he added: “There’s more than being reelected here. There’s the factor of principle. The Republican Party has gone far to the right since I joined it under Reagan’s big tent. … In recent times, I have diverged materially from the Republican line … As the picture has evolved, I felt a lot more comfortable – as a matter of principle – with Democrats than Republicans.” …

Asked his core principles, the first two Specter listed were “freedom, a woman’s right to choose.”

Specter, a survivor of the cancer Hodgkin’s lymphoma, has opened a website to push for more medical research.

“If we had pursued the war on cancer, which President Nixon declared in 1970, Jack Kemp might be alive today,” Specter said. “This medical research has prolonged or saved many lives, including mine.”

So Charles agrees with Specter, this would explain his daily assault on his former allies. Charles Johnson was always a fake. He just supports the GOP because he wants low taxes, that is all. Now he is trying to get mainstream credibility by attacking the Right. Notice he doesn’t attack Soros, MSNBC and Olbermann? This shows you his true colors.

As for the GOP moving Far Right, I would like an explanation if what Far Right means. My gripe with the GOP and why I am disgruntled is because of it stale Corporatist economic policies, support of spreading “Democracy” in the Islamic world and support for Islamic Immigration to America. But that is different than Charles daily attacks. Hey Chucky why did you never take on the Progressive Fascist machine? You never did because you are an Intellectual Coward.

I challenge either Charles, Sharmuta, Killgore or Medaura to debate on issues here or in a neutral forum. If none accept then this will show what a bunch of cowards you all are.

Update: Sharmuta now gives her wisdom.

I understand part of the criticism here- specter is saying the gop isn’t the pro-science, liberty supporting party that it was under Reagan. Goldwater would not recognize his party today.

But it’s also not the fiscal party it once was- and for that, senator spector is part of the problem.

So because many Republicans don’t agree with Global Warming and Darwinism, makes them anti-science? How is the GOP anti-liberty? Sharmuta come here and explain if you have courage.

Arlen Specter – Traitor Or Sign of Trouble for GOP?

by Phantom Ace ( 21 Comments › )
Filed under Democratic Party, Politics at April 29th, 2009 - 6:58 am

This is an open thread about Arlen Specter. Is his defection a good or bad sign for the GOP?

Update: Here’s an article discussing it.

A Long Term Problem for Republicans

President Obama probably didn’t need any more good news to end his first 100 days. Yet he got it anyway, with a hefty assist from the Republican right. Senator Arlen Specter announced that he would join the ranks of the Democrats. This has several important ramifications in the short term. First, it means that Democrats will likely have 60 members once Al Franken is certified as the winner in Minnesota. The importance of this is somewhat overblown, since this doesn’t necessarily mean that Democrats will have 60 votes on all issues, but more on this later. Second, it contributes to the Democrats’ already-hefty momentum, and to the short-term marginalization of the beltway Republicans.

In the long term, the switch is a symptom of a deepening problem for the Republican party. First, it likely moves the center of the Senate further leftward. Some on the Republican party’s right will ignore this, and declare “good riddance” to Specter. After all, he cast the “wrong” vote on the stimulus bill, is pro-choice, and has cast a number of votes that fly in the face of modern conservative orthodoxy.

I think the GOP needs a broader base but not turn coats like Arlen Specter. It needs to be an alliance of Conservatives. Libertarians, Populists and Security Moderates.
