The Pope theologically debunks an anti Jewish smear

Pope Benedict XVI has written a follow up to his Jesus of Nazareth book. What’s different about this book is that it addresses the age old smear that Jews are to blame for the crucifixion of Jesus. Anyone who read scripture knows this is not the case. However it was unfortunately part of Catholic theology for several centuries. The reason it was is when the Romans converted to Christianity they didn’t want to admit that it was their ancestors along with Judean puppets who did it, so they smeared the Jews.  That all came to end in 1965 with the 2nd Vatican Council where the Church thoroughly rejected this nonsense with their Nostra Aetate declaration.

Now The Pope has taken this a step further. He does a scripture based rejection on the smear against Jews. The importance of this is that Pope Benedict was a theologian. This is beyond a papal statement, but a theological debunking of one of the biggest anti-Semitic lies of all ages.

VATICAN CITY — Pope Benedict XVI has made a sweeping exoneration of the Jewish people for the death of Jesus Christ, tackling one of the most controversial issues in Christianity in a new book.

In “Jesus of Nazareth-Part II” excerpts released Wednesday, Benedict explains biblically and theologically why there is no basis in Scripture for the argument that the Jewish people as a whole were responsible for Jesus’ death.

Interpretations to the contrary have been used for centuries to justify the persecution of Jews.

[…]

The Catholic Church issued its most authoritative teaching on the issue in its 1965 Second Vatican Council document “Nostra Aetate,” which revolutionized the church’s relations with Jews by saying Christ’s death could not be attributed to Jews as a whole at the time or today.

Benedict comes to the same conclusion, but he explains how with a thorough, Gospel-by-Gospel analysis that leaves little doubt that he deeply and personally believes it to be the case: That only a few Temple leaders and a small group of supporters were primarily responsible for Christ’s crucifixion.

That Benedict is a theologian makes “this statement from the Holy See that much more significant for now and for future generations,” said Anti-Defamation League national director, Abraham H. Foxman.

Read it all: Pope exonerates Jews for Jesus’ death in new book

As a Catholic I am glad Pope Benedict XVI decided to do a theological debunking. Although it is already Church teaching, a theological based book by the Pope is huge. This  book will take away ammunition from the Jew hating Catholic hold outs and the few Jews who hate the Catholic Church. Hopefully with this book, Catholics and Jews can continue to cultivate closer relations and move forward towards the future.

The Catholic Church isn’t perfect since it’s made up of humans. However it has been, for the most part good for humanity.

Pope Benedict XVI’s fight against Catholic persecution

In today’s world, Catholics and other Christians are being persecuted. While some religions, like Islam, are given an almost de facto state religion status in the west, Catholicism is constantly mocked and attacked by Progressives. Anything Catholics do is considered evil and society accepts the disrespect of the church. This is due to the fact that unlike in days past, Pope Benedict XVI doesn’t have an allied power with a military force and Catholics aren’t engaged in terrorism. While Islam is praised and criticism of it is portrayed as persecution, real discrimination against Catholics and Christians is occurring with silence. The Pope is trying to bring this to light, but the media is ignoring it.

This being the season of hope, Islamic extremists of course have been engaged in their annual tradition of blowing up Christian churches.

An attack by a radical Muslim sect on two churches in northern Nigeria killed six people on Christmas Eve. On the Philippines’ Jolo Island, home to al Qaeda-linked terrorists, a chapel bombing during Christmas Mass injured 11.

One of the central public events during these days at year’s end is the Pope’s midnight Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. In his homily the pope invariably pleads for peace, but on Friday evening a viewer could not have missed the meaning when Benedict XVI twice mentioned “garments rolled in blood,” from Isaiah 9:5.

The image, as befits Isaiah, is poetic and disturbing. Benedict surely intended it so: “It is true,” he said, “that the ‘rod of his oppressor’ is not yet broken, the boots of warriors continue to tramp and the ‘garment rolled in blood’ still remains.” He was of course referring to the sustained violence against Christian minorities by Islamic fundamentalists.

It is difficult being a Catholic in today’s world. No one stands up for our interests and our faith is constantly mocked and attacked. We don’t have a well armed nation that can defend the faithful. This is part of the reason I want a well armed Colombia, at least we would have someone to turn to for help. The Unites States has bipartisan Pro-Muslim foreign policy due to the Saudi stranglehold on our politics, hence Catholics can’t turn to America for help. The Jewish state of Israel, who would be our next logical ally for assistance, itself is besieged by the Progressive-Islamic Axis and is under pressure from the regime of Barack Hussein Obama, hence they are in no position to assist. In short, Catholics are screwed and in an ironic twist of history, we are in the same position we were 2000 years ago. Hated by society and persecuted.

Pope Benedict XVI is fighting an admirable fight but without any force to back it up, it’s a futile effort.

My message to my Orthodox brothers that we are one and the same. We broke off from you 1000 years ago and we are technically a western Orthodox church. It is a shame more Catholics didn’t stand by the Serbs when they were back stabbed by the West to please Dar al Islam. As the Progressive-Islamic axis does to the Roman Church, they will do to the Eastern Orthodox church. Many of you already know this and I appreciate the support you give us.

My message to other Christians who don’t like Catholics, they are coming for us today, then it will be you tomorrow. If we go down who will defend you? If you think the American government will, think again. The bipartisan elite in Washington will sell you out to please the House of Saud and the Islamic Imperialists. Ask the Serbian Orthodox, they can tell you.

My message to Jews is the same enemies going after the Catholic Church are going after Israel and Jews. Has there been bad relations between the Catholic Church and Jews over the centuries, absolutely, but the problem is a two way street. Some Catholics don’t like Jews and some Jews don’t like Catholics. If we focus on the idiots on both sides, we will be busy sniping each other while our enemies devour both of us.

Catholics, Orthodox, other Christians and Jews are all Children of Abraham and believe in the One true God of Israel. We either stick together or we all will perish and the evil Progressive-Islamic Axis will triumph.

Republicans plan Budget Cuts

The Republican Party is now claiming that should they get a House majority, they will implement budget cuts. I hope they carry through with this and don’t cower out. Let’s not forget the GOP had total control of the US government from 2003-2007 and they governed like fiscal Socialists. In fact the Democrats ran to their right on fiscal issues in 2006 and won Congress as result. Once in power, they governed like fiscal Marxists and drove up the deficit to 1.2 Trillion and the debt by 5 trillion. Now Chris Cristie like budget cutting is needed and this is what the GOP is promising.

U.S. House Republicans plan to try to slash $100 billion from the federal budget as early as January if they wrest power from Democrats in this year’s midterm elections, setting up possible early showdowns with President Barack Obama on taxes and spending.

A Republican House takeover would thrust new committee heads, such as Representative Dave Camp on the Ways and Means panel, into the spotlight within weeks — or days — of seizing their gavels in early January. They would confront quick political tests that could alienate independent voters and Tea Party activists alike, analysts said.

I want to believe the Republicans but with their current Progressive leadership under Boehner (R-Oh), I have my doubts. Hopefully the rumors of Eric Cantor challenging Boehnerfor House Speaker is true. Paul Ryan and Cantor are the real deal Conservatives. As shown in the health care summit, they can run circles around Obama. They also know how to explain to the American public the sacrifices that will be needed to regain economic prosperity. A Cantor-Ryan leadership duo would be able to blunt the media’s attacks on budget cuts. The GOP needs good spokesman and they fit the bill.

In an interesting note, the Democratic party in Minnesota is running out right anti-Catholic ads. Since Catholic bashing and attacks on the church is accepted in America, no one has called them on it!

A  Democrat Party supporting independent non profit group has sent out perhaps THE most anti-Catholic political advertisement I’ve ever seen. Sometimes there’s a little subtlety to anti-Catholic political rhetoric but not this time. This is in your face anti-Catholicism. A postcard was sent out to voters with a photo shopped picture of a Catholic priest wearing a campaign button saying: “Ignore the Poor.”

[…..]

One of the more worrisome things about this is that this group must believe that there’s enough of an anti-Catholic vote that this would pay dividends. Could that be true?

Yes it will pay dividends since thanks to revisionist history, the media and entertainment industry, Catholic bashing is one of this nation’s favorite past times. As Stalin once said “How many divisions the Pope has?’ Very true words because if there was a Nuclear armed Catholic super power or Catholic terrorism, there would be more respect for the Church and its members. That is the truth, see the way Islam is treated in American society compared to Catholicism.

The President’s Nun: Obamacare Scranton Scandal Explodes

(h/t: rain of lead)

By Jeffrey Lord on 10.11.10 @ 6:09AM

Can you say “October Surprise”?

A mushrooming political battle over ObamaCare involving the White House, two incumbent Pennsylvania congressmen, three Catholic hospitals and a nun has just exploded in, of all places, Scranton, Pennsylvania. Charges from the Scranton medical community of intimidation by the Obama White House and its allies are filling the air.

All of this just as Vice President Joe Biden arrives in Scranton today to raise money for one of the participants.

There are two issues at the core of the controversy.

1) ObamaCare and the sale of three Scranton-area Catholic hospitals.

2) The re-election prospects of the two House members, Democrats Paul Kanjorski and Chris Carney, both of whom cast key votes to pass ObamaCare.

Here’s the list of players — major and minor — so far.

  • * The President of the United States.
  • * The Vice President of the United States.
  • * Three Scranton-area Catholic hospitals suddenly for sale.
  • * The CEO of the three Scranton-area Catholic hospitals for sale.
  • * ObamaCare, otherwise known as “health care reform” or the “Affordable Care Act.”
  • * A Catholic nun.
  • * Michigan Congressman Bart Stupak.
  • * A pen.
  • * Victoria Reggie Kennedy, widow of the late Senator Ted Kennedy.
  • * Time magazine.
  • * The Scranton Times.
  • * The two Scranton-area House members Kanjorski and Carney, both losing in the polls.
  • * U.S. Senator Bob Casey, Jr., a native and resident of Scranton.
  • * Congressman Joe Sestak, the Democrats’ nominee for the Pennsylvania U.S. Senate seat.

Where to start? That would be….

The article recaps the ruthless efforts of the White House to suppress all indications from the corporate world, the health care industry, or anywhere else, regarding the negative effects of ZeroCare. The latest example of such strong-arming has cropped up in “the unlikely location of Scranton, Pennsylvania”:

IN THE MIDDLE OF THESE two hotly contested re-election races for a pair of Pennsylvania Democratic congressmen, the controversy first erupted over the suddenly announced sale of three Catholic Hospitals spread out between Paul Kanjorski’s and Chris Carney’s two adjoining congressional districts.

The initial announcement was made by Mercy Health Partners CEO Kevin Cook.

Cook is based in Scranton, while Mercy Partners and the three hospitals up for sale are in fact a subsidiary of the larger Catholic Healthcare Partners (CHP) based in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The three Catholic hospitals involved are: Mercy Hospital in Scranton; Mercy Special Care Hospital in Nanticoke, both in Kanjorski’s 11th District. And the Mercy Tyler Hospital in Tunkhannock, located in Carney’s adjacent 10th District.

The Cook announcement was big news in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The Sisters of Mercy had opened Mercy Hospital in Scranton, a major facility for the city, in 1917 — 93 years earlier. Inevitably it drew media attention. Which is where the plot thickens.

WNEP TV (Channel 16) reporter Jon Meyer filed a story about the sale at 4:40 pm. that afternoon. WNEP TV anchor Paula Giangiacomo led the story on the air by saying that “one big” reason for the sale “is the health care reform bill signed into law this year.” Mercy Health Partners CEO Cook was interviewed on camera along with Sister Marie Parker. When Meyer asked Cook if ObamaCare had anything at all to do with the sale, the CEO replied:

Health care reform is absolutely playing a role. Was it the precipitating factor in this decision? No, but was it a factor in our planning over the next five years? Absolutely.

Notice the use — twice — of the word “absolutely” by Cook, leaving no doubt with viewers that while ObamaCare wasn’t the “precipitating factor” it was “absolutely playing a role…Absolutely” in the decision by Mercy Health Care Partners to put the three hospitals up for sale.

But just 48 hours later, came the effort to flush the truth down the memory hole. Mr. Cook twice issued statements denying his earlier statement about ZeroCare being a major reason for selling the hospitals. A certain Catholic nun, Sr. Carol Keehan, DC, president and chief executive officer of the Catholic Health Association (CHA), weighed in furiously, calling the original story about the reason for the sale of the hospitals “false, misleading, and politically motivated.”

Why hide the reason for the sale of these three hospitals?

And who is Sister Carol Keehan?

One doctor in Scranton — who was deeply disturbed by the announcement — is certain he knows the answer. That answer? Mr. Cook was absolutely right the very first time he spoke to WNEP on camera. Hospitals, said this doctor — frequently run a debt. “What’s different? Why now?” he said in terms of the rationale for selling the Mercy hospitals. The reason is exactly as CEO Cook originally said it was. ObamaCare cuts in Medicare reimbursement have changed the rules so drastically for hospitals “you [Mercy Health Partners] are in an untenable situation,” said this physician. Most hospitals have accumulating debt because of capital investments, says the doctor. But they can’t deal with that debt if in fact their ability to earn money is cut off or drastically reduced over time.

If the doctor is right, and he is not alone in saying this, the proposed sale of the three Mercy hospitals becomes a harbinger of what will happen nationally as a result of ObamaCare slowly tightening its government tentacles over the private health care system. Which means the sale of the three Mercy hospitals has added Scranton to what the Wall Street Journal has already called ObamaCare’s “trail of destruction.”

Ahhhh. But who is Sister Carol Keehan? What’s the big deal here with her? Why would a statement from simple Catholic nun appear to cause so much consternation with Mercy Health Partner CEO Kevin Cook in Scranton, Pennsylvania?

LET’S GO BACK to that presidential signing of the health care reform law. There were 21 very powerful people in that little group who received signing pens from the President. As mentioned that included the Vice President, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Ted Kennedy’s widow Victoria Reggie Kennedy. And someone else.

That would be Sister Carol Keehan.

Impressive, no? The Catholic News Agency thought so, and prominently noted the story here. It also noted that Sister Carol was receiving her presidential pen from the President himself because she had been “supporting health care despite bishops’ objections.” The story even pictured the pen itself alongside the presidential seal on the box in which it came, with “Barack Obama” clearly visible scrawled along the side. Meaning, Sister Carol had enough clout to take on the Catholic Bishops on the President’s behalf — and win.

Does the name Bart Stupak ring a bell? The much ballyhooed pro-life Democrat Congressman from Michigan? The Catholic Congressman Bart Stupak who was said to be such a sturdy obstacle to passage of ObamaCare because it would allow abortions? In the aftermath of the ObamaCare passage, Slate came forward to note that a letter signed by “representatives” of Catholic nuns finally swayed Stupak to break his staunch anti-abortion pledge and sign on for ObamaCare with a simple promise of an executive order on abortion, executive orders being overturned by successor presidents with the rapidity of rabbits doing the breeding thing. Wait! Stupak was persuaded by Catholic nuns? Isn’t Sister Carol a …nun? How about that? What a coincidence? Yes indeed, the letter in question was signed — solo — by Sister Carol.
