Dogs are the greatest creatures on Earth. Here’s a sad example.

That’s loyalty.

Demogoging China.

I have heard many statements about China, and the Chinese leaders recently. The talk has been from both sides of the aisle, and not much of it has been friendly. So, naturally, I choose to defend China. First off, it is not China’s fault that we have acted so irresponsibly with our national finances for the past 80 years. All China has done, is to accept the role of one of our creditors, at our request.

Vilifying a creditor is nothing new, it is a terrific tradition which traces its cowardly roots to the middle ages. dating back to medieval times, the nobility class, when in a snit would seek to attack the neighboring kingdoms over various disputes. Waging warfare costs money. That money would sometimes have to be borrowed, failing a sufficient revenue stream resulting from taxation. When the war was waged, if a kingdom was successful, money could be stolen, to repay the creditors. This is where the term, “to the victor goes the spoils,” came from. This system worked out fine for the kings who won, but what about those who lost? Well, they had blown all of the currency needed to wage the war, and were now in a tough spot, as they needed to repay their creditors. That is when these same kings declared the creditors to be enemies of the kingdom, and edicted laws making usury illegal. Creditors were rounded up and beheaded. Who’s fault was it really? It did not take long before people with wealth did not want to be creditors, most especially if the military prowess of a particular king was in question. In any event, once in that position, creditors were quite literally invested in the success of those they loaned money to. China, is in this position today.

Much has been said publicly about our loss of manufacturing base in this country. A lot has been said about the growth of manufacturing in China. It would probably surprise you to discover that we still manufacture quite a bit in the U.S. Maybe our manufacturing is not the percentage of world manufacturing that it once was, but that is the fault of overbearing regulation, and not a result of American economic decay. Cause and effect have been reversed for the purposes of political narrative. We have made it virtually impossible to produce energy sufficient to keep up with our demand within our own borders. We have passed many regulations designed to make our workplaces safe, but many more designed only to promote the well being of someone politically connected. (DOTIPCC is the perfect example of this. There are many Americans who own trucking companies in America who do not operate a single truck. They merely own IPCC numbers and lease them out to trucking companies who do own trucks. This adds billions of dollars each year to transportation costs, which helps to reduce a companies incentive to manufacture within our borders.) It may interest everyone to know that trucking regulation was lobbied for by the rail industry. Does that sound familiar?

Yes, China has been gaining traction on us in terms of manufacturing. They have done this by adopting, at least in part, our own economic system. China is still a long ways away from our GDP. At our current rate of decline, and China’s current rate of growth, it will take them about a hundred years to reach about half of our GDP. China has also not adopted our system completely. They still do not have individual property rights. Capital investment will never reach its full potential in that part of the world. Simply because no one with money to invest will see China as a risk free proposition. It will be front of every one’s mind that China has the legal authority to confiscate any investment when it suits them to do so.

China needs us to pay them back. China is not so wealthy, as not very many are, that they can keep loaning us money and not have a care in the world as to whether we pay it back or not. When any nation floats us a loan, they do so with the intention of being repaid with interest. If we don’t pay, they lose a lot of money. China is as much afraid of our default as we are. This is one reason why they continue to loan us money. It is not because they wish us to be continuing forever as their subordinate, it is because they fear the repercussions to their own wealth and self interests if our paper becomes the value overnight of bird cage liners. That means that they lose a lot of money. Many of our wealthiest companies were destroyed by the collapse of Bear Sterns. China is more afraid of this than we are.

There will still be a point in time when they will see us as chasing good money after bad.

Big Peace Follows the Money: Who’s Funding the VMI Jihadi Sellout?

Here’s the problem. The once-venerable Virginia Military Academy has announced that they plan to host an event in honor of the brutal Muslim conquest and occupation of Spain in 711 AD. Rodan and I recently blogged about this in VMI Whitewashes Islamic Occupation of Spain.

Yes, General Stonewall Jackson once taught there. Undoubtedly, General Jackson, as a stalwart Christian, would be outraged if he were to learn that his former place of employment is now inviting our Muslim enemies to influence and mislead the youths who are destined to become America’s military officers.

Now, thanks to the detective work of Andrew Breitbart’s war and military reporting site, Big Peace, we can carry out the advice that “Deep Throat” gave in All the President’s Men; namely, “Follow the money.” It’s all about foreign funding for programs that expose future US military officers to enemy propaganda.

VMI Islamic Conference Grant and the Middle East Funding Connection

Posted by Christine Brim Feb. 7, 2011 at 11:10 am

Let’s follow the money trail behind Virginia Military Institute’s plans to host a “celebration” commemoration of the Islamic conquest of Spain.

VMI Barracks

Previously, Patrick Poole exposed the planned March 23-25 “celebration” entitled “711 AD – 2011: East Meets West” organized by the Virginia Military Institute’s (VMI) Center for Leadership and Ethics. Then he exposed the VMI cover-up, showing that in response to public criticism, the VMI had already changed its language regarding the event on its website. Originally the event was to “celebrate” the 1300thanniversary of “Tariq ibn Ziyad’s crossing of the Straits of Gibraltar” – in fact ushering in nearly eight centuries of oppressive Islamic rule in Spain – while the new version uses the word “commemoration” instead of “celebrate”.

That’s “commemoration” from the Latin commemorationem, meaning “to call to mind.”

So commemorate this: let’s call to mind the money trail behind the conference, and follow it to a much bigger set of questions for VMI and their funders discovered in an interesting little program at the Department of Defense, whose primary administrators and advisers are the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and the Politburo of Communist China. And the trail gets even more interesting after that.

It all starts with the grant for the conference.

In 2008 VMI received a $665,000 grant from the Department of Defense http://www.vmi.edu/NewsCenter.aspx?id=22465 (h/t Patrick Poole) to “enhance its Arabic studies program and provide opportunities for cadets to study the language and culture abroad.” VMI was one of 8 schools to receive funding through the program, called at that time the “Reserve Officer Training Corp (ROTC) Language and Culture Project.” According to VMI:

In addition, the grant will support a cross-cultural conference hosted by VMI that will focus on themes including literature, religion, history, language, politics, pedagogy and Islamic-Christian amity…

[…]
Next step on the money trail: the providers of that grant for the VMI conference, a little known Defense Department project now called Project GO for “Global Officers” (originally titled the Reserve Officer Training Corp (ROTC) Language and Culture Project), started in 2007 as part of the Defense Department’s National Security Education Program (NSEP). Project GO (Global Officers) is the source for funding $665,000 of the new $200 million VMI Center for Leadership and Ethics, faculty and programs, the VMI organization sponsoring this conference.
[…]
However, the Defense Department’s NSEP program doesn’t actually administer Project GO (Global Officers) – that’s done instead by another entity, the private Institute of International Education (IIE). And now the money trail becomes interesting. Here’s how IIE is described at Project GO (Global Officers):

The Institute of International Education – The Institute of International Education (IIE) administers the Project GO Institutional Grants on behalf of the National Security Education Program. IIE is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to building international goodwill through educational and cultural exchange among nations. By enabling more than 18,000 outstanding men and women each year to study, conduct research, receive practical training, or provide technical assistance outside their own countries, IIE fosters mutual understanding, builds global problem solving capabilities, and strengthens the international competence of U.S. citizens.

[…]
Let’s go to two advisory groups at the IIE, administrator of the grant for VMI’s conference: the International Counselors and the IIE New Leaders Group (NLG) .

First, those International Counselors– according to the IIE website, “Dedicated internationalists from all world regions provide advice and counsel to IIE’s senior management on topics related to their geographic areas and their global expertise.” The list of those “dedicated internationalists” includes Saudi Arabia’s Consul General, the Minister of Planning for Jordan, and (my favorite, a bit off topic but just too good not to mention in the context of “Project GO – Global Officers”) Li Yuanchao, Politburo Member of the 17th CPC Central Committee, Head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, Beijing China.

You bet they’re “dedicated internationalists.” And what a great group to have administering the primary language and culture programs for ROTC across the nation. What a great group to turn what used to be “United States Officers” into “Global Officers.”

But wait. There’s more. Meet the “New Leaders Group (NLG).” According to the IIE,

“The NLG serves as an idea generation engine for IIE and helps enable the Institute to increase its responsiveness to urgent global needs. By helping to harness and leverage the Institute’s resources and capabilities, the NLG will identify and address pressing global issues and make a meaningful impact upon the world we share.”

[…]
Why ask about that “leverage”? Look who’s on the list : “New Leaders” from just two countries: The New Leaders Group in the USA, and the New Leaders Group in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In fact, one of the putative “United States” group members is Serra Kirdar-Meliti, Director of the Muthabara Foundation, a UAE entity dedicated to maximizing “the potential of Arab women.”

And under the UAE list, those veterans of leverage in all senses of the word, theMohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation. (There are others and all are well-deserving of further research, but let’s just “commemorate” a few facts about the Maktoum empire.)

Second on the UAE section’s list is Samar Al-Shorafa, Manager of Project Development at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation. The Al-Maktoum family is the ruling dynasty of the United Arab Emirates. The Al-Maktoum family controls the government-owned Dubai Ports World Corporation which caused a major political uproar stateside in 2006 when it was set to take over port security at 22 seaports across the United States.

The Maktoums have also been active in funding Muslim Brotherhood front organizations in the United States, especially the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). In 2002 the Al-Maktoum foundation provided $978,031.34 in the form of a Deed of Trust for CAIR’s (and here at Paul Sperry’s sperryfiles.com) Washington, D.C. headquarters. In 2006 UAE Minister of Finance Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoumendorsed a proposal to build a property in the United States to serve as an endowment for CAIR (h/t Adam Savit, editor at Cairobservatory.org )

Rodan Note:I called it, that there was a Saudi connection to this on me and 1389’s post!

Why the silence and why is a prestigious organization like VMI insulting a whole culture? Could they be receiving Saudi money?

I hope reports that Saudi Arabia has less oil than what is claimed. They are an evil nation that has brought nothing but misery to the world, the last 1400 years. Nothing good has come out of the Arabian peninsula and they cane at sand for all I care.

Who Are The 99ers?

by 1389AD ( 131 Comments › )
Filed under Barack Obama, China, Economy, immigration, Socialism, Tranzis at December 25th, 2010 - 6:30 pm

At Christmas, let us pray for those who cannot find work to support their families!

This video is a real shocker:

Unemployment Benefits: The 99ers

Vast numbers of Americans who were laid off back in 2008 still cannot find jobs. There simply are nowhere near enough jobs to go around.

Despite what was said in the news about extending unemployment benefits for another “thirteen months,” this was a lie. There was no extension of benefits for those who have exhausted their 99 weeks of unemployment benefits and who still cannot find work, or are working at part-time jobs that don’t pay enough to live on.

You don’t have to be a wastrel to end up in that predicament. Many of these people are older, educated professionals who did all the right things: finished college and professional school, worked diligently, kept their skills up to date, saved for their retirement. Now they are cashing in their IRAs and their 401Ks just to survive, selling their homes at huge losses, moving in with strangers, going to soup kitchens, picking through garbage for items to recycle.

Per the video, “No one is expecting Congress to vote another extension of unemployment checks, given our historic budget deficits.”

House adjourns with no mention of tier 5 unemployment extension for 99ers

December 23rd, 2010 8:58 am ET.

The House of Representatives yesterday evening passed a motion to adjourn the 111th Congress with no mention of H.R. 6556, the bill that would have provided unemployment benefits for the 99ers. The bill was sponsored by Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA).

In an eloquent eulogy for tier 5, Michael Colliss laid into Lee, writing on the website All247News, “This latest disappointment to the 99ers was little more then an effort by a relatively unknown Congresswoman to get publicity. The 99ers have suffered – and are continuing to suffer – enough. This was a totally unnecessary, and in the opinion of this writer, basically cruel and insensitive effort by a person who did not care who she hurt to gain headlines. Considering the sad, unnecessary turmoil created by Congressman Barbara Lee of California, many unemployment advocates as well as 99ers are probably asking themselves, ‘With ‘friends’ like these who needs enemies?'”

Michael Colliss worked for 21 years as a staff member in Congress. He is now retired and works as a volunteer advocate for the 99ers.

The 112th Congress begins on Wednesday, January 5th, 2011. It is unlikely to pass legislation providing unemployment benefits for the 99ers. When asked about the future of the 99ers earlier this week, White House Spokesman Robert Gibbs said that the President intends to focus on job creation.

I know only too well what the President means when he “intends to focus on job creation.” This means pork-barrel jobs for the TSA gropers, for the new food-inspection Nazis, for unneeded school administrators, and for all of the bureaucrats who are putting a stranglehold on private enterprise. There will be jobs for the SEIU and for other unions that have contributed to the election of Barack Hussein Obama.

This is how Obama’s “job creation” has worked out thus far:

Hot Air: Chart of the … year

(h/t: Iron Fist)

posted at 11:36 am on December 7, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Quite a few people have had the same reaction to this chart from Business Insider and Calculated Risk as John Derbyshire at The Corner, which is to offer a res ipsa loquitur rather than clutter it with commentary. But there is more to be said about the ramifications of this chart:

Chart showing nearly flat 'recovery' from 2008 recession - click for larger image

But calling it the Chart of the Day seems too limiting. I’d call this the Chart of the Year, for a couple of reasons. It demonstrates the folly of the Obama administration’s insistence that we have been experiencing a recovery and any sort of significant growth in job creation. After hitting the nadir of job losses relative to our peak inter-recession employment, we have essentially flatlined for far longer than any other post-recession period. Nothing in the data shows a hint that we will soon break out of that pattern either, and Ben Bernanke says we’ll probably go four to five more years on this same trajectory.

But that’s not all, folks. The Obama Administration has been creating jobs, all right – but not for Americans! The jobs are in other countries, in various industries that are profiting from US subsidies, sometimes through the costly stimulus program that was touted as a means of stemming American unemployment.

Our Tax Dollars ‘Saved or Created’ Jobs – OVERSEAS!

Our economy is a mess – millions of Americans are out of work and those who do have jobs are finding it increasingly difficult to afford the ever rising costs of living. With this in mind, it might make sense for the Obama administration to direct some of our tax dollars towards job creation, but what doesn’t make sense is the fact that millions of our dollars are being used by the Obama administration to create jobs in foreign countries!

Democrats are working very hard pushing the ‘green’ meme and fighting tirelessly to divert money to China for wind turbines – which if made here instead could help put Americans back to work.’
[…]
Not to be outdone by his former rival & current underling, good ole Barry spent $22 MILLION dollars to train high tech workers in Sri Lanka! Jobs that, again, I’m sure many AMERICANS would have loved an opportunity to be trained for and to get. There was a lot of coverage of this in the right-blogosphere, and virtually none in the MSM (try not to look so surprised), here’s what Ed Morrissey had to say about it at Hot Air:

Obama WH spends $22 million to train workers …
August 4, 2010 by Ed Morrissey
As I noted earlier, Democrats plan to punish businesses that locate higher-paying manufacturing jobs overseas with higher taxes. What will they do with a White House that will spend $22 million to train programmers in Java — and English — in Asia? The program from USAID will train 3,000 programmers to compete for business in the high-tech sector…

Much more here.

H-1b: Importing foreigners to displace American tech workers

As if all that were not enough, the H-1b visa program remains in effect. This program imports foreign workers to work at high-tech jobs where there is supposedly a shortage of American workers. The program was a fraud from the get-go, and it still is. Never has there been a shortage of American workers in the IT and engineering fields. Instead, the H-1b workers are being imported as contractors, at lower wages than what American workers would be paid, despite the laws that supposedly prevent that. Because most of the H-1b workers lack understanding of the American business environment, not to mention English-language communication skills, the quality of their work falls far short of that of the experienced American workers whom they have displaced. But too many CEOs and CIOs who want to cut corners to improve their short-term results make use of these H-1b workers in droves.

I am one of the 99ers.

At the age of 57, I am one of those who are considered “too old to rehire, and too young to retire.”

If Barack Hussein Obama has his way, there will never be a job at a living wage for the likes of me.

Having been laid off from an IT job early in 2008, I am one of those who have no more unemployment benefits. I am currently working as a part-time retail clerk, at minimum wage. To put it bluntly, I am a diligent and reliable worker with a clean record and a cooperative attitude, and I am exceedingly frugal, but it is flat-out impossible to survive on what I earn. I have requested more hours, but business has been much too slow.

Unless my situation drastically improves after the beginning of 2011, I am seriously considering emigration.
