Rand Paul and Ted Cruz to Filibuster Gun Control Bill

Rand Paul and Ted Cruz are rapidly becoming the dynamic duo of the Senate. Cruz backed Paul’s 13 hour filibuster against drone strikes on Americans. Now Rand Paul and Ted Cruz are promising to filibuster any Gun Control bill.

Sens. Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and Mike Lee are threatening to filibuster gun-control legislation, according to a letter they plan to hand-deliver to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s office on Tuesday.

“We will oppose the motion to proceed to any legislation that will serve as a vehicle for any additional gun restrictions,” the three conservatives wrote in a copy of the signed letter obtained by POLITICO.

[….]

Though they don’t use the word “filibuster” in the letter, the conservatives are leaving no doubt that they would filibuster on an initial procedural question — the motion to proceed.

Rand Paul and Ted Cruz are true Patriots standing up for the Civil Rights of Americans. Without Guns, we lose our freedoms and our property.

Like many on the Right, I am very disillusioned with the Republican party. You have spineless Establishment and a stubborn base both of whom are hampering the Party’s ability to win elections. The one issue keeping me from defecting to the Libertarians, who I am ideologically more in line with is Gun Rights. If the GOP caves on Guns, I will no longer automatically vote for them. They would have to earn my vote. I am not alone in this sentiment.

What if it happened to you?

I was about to dedicate this thread to Rick Santorum, who dropped out of the GOP Presidential nomination race today, but I changed my mind.

[Caveat: The following is my own opinion based upon current information. It does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the Admins of this blog or any commenters here. — Bunk X]

If I were George Zimmerman:

A free man;
Uncharged and unconvicted of any crime to date;
Proclaimed guilty by prominent MSM “journalists” and self-serving civil rights demagogues;
Maligned by the President of my own country;
With a dead-or-alive price on my head by the Black Panthers;
Wanted by vigilantes, rogue bounty hunters and lynch mobs;
Facing a very real chance of being convicted and incarcerated for political reasons regardless of extenuating circumstances and witness testimony;
Expecting either solitary confinement or being eviscerated in prison;
Having to look over my shoulder for the rest of my life whether in prison or not…

…well, I’d think about saying, “Fuck it,” and  disappearing for good.

That said, I’m dedicating This Overnight Open Thread to the preservation of the Civil Rights of every U.S. Citizen, and to George Zimmerman whose Civil Rights have been mangled beyond recognition.

By the way. How are things in your town?

Update:  Police calls preserved here show that Zimmerman was cooperating and leading the police to someone acting suspiciously. http://www.wagist.com/

Sanford police logs show this call began at 7:09:34PM. This video includes a timer starting at that point to indicate what happened when. Zimmerman gets out of his truck at 7:11:44 and begins pursuing Trayvon Martin. The police operator says “we don’t need you to do that” i.e. follow him, at 7:12:01, but Zimmerman continues to follow him until 7:12:15, by which point he appears to have lost sight of Trayvon, as he is no longer describing the youth’s movements and is calmly exchanging information with the operator. At least a minute passes here where we can safely assume Zimmerman and Trayvon are out of visual contact (though this could be much longer). Something happens at 7:13:21 to cause a change in Zimmerman’s tone of voice, but whether that is an external event (he gains some clue of Trayvon’s whereabouts?) or merely a thought entering his mind, we cannot say. From 7:12:15 to the end of the call, there is no background noise that would indicate Zimmerman is moving back to his truck. Given the way cell phone microphones work, this is not conclusive evidence that he did NOT walk back toward his truck during the call, but it certainly means that it is possible, if not probable, that he concluded the call at whatever spot he had left off pursuing Trayvon.

Key points here:
1. Many media reports have implied, if not stated openly, that Zimmerman tracked down Martin a continuous direct pursuit. That is not supported by the evidence of the time lapse.
2. Zimmerman continues to pursue Trayvon even after he agrees not to.
3. Zimmerman leaves his vehicle at 7:11:44. Verizon cell phone records, which are accurate only to the minute, show that Trayvon Martin called his girlfriend “DeeDee” at 7:12.

Zo: Herman Cain Should Smoke Crack

Ever since I first heard of Alfonzo Rachel’s ZoNation video series, I have always admired him. He speaks Truth to Power, and this time he absolutely rips into the Demo☭rats, Al Sharpton, Cornell West, and Bill Maher for their criticisms of Herman Cain…by using a little reverse psychology. And he pulls it off masterfully!

End Hoplophobia Now!

A rights movement I can really get behind,

You see this all around us. You can see it in the hordes of hoplophobic suburban soccer moms who won’t let their kids come over to your house to play with your kids if they know that you have a firearm of any sort in the house (even if it’s unloaded, broken down, and stored in a maglocked safe!) You can see it with the people who call the cops if kids in the neighborhood are running around playing with obviously fake pink and green water guns. In many districts, public school officials are trained to drop hints to the kids that only “bad people” own guns. Pediatricians ask parents if they have firearms in the house — presumably so that the local Child Services can be notified about potential “hazards” — and children are encouraged to divulge this information without parents being present. The whole point is to plant in the minds of the next generation the idea that guns are bad, bad guys have guns (except for government officials, of course), and that no good citizen would ever need to own one.

At the same time, hoplophobes seek to suppress any expression of gun ownership or approval of the practice among adults. Many corporations include websites about firearms or firearm accessories in their list of sites to block — right up there with porn and the stuff about making bombs. The media routinely lies about the motivations and intentions of people who choose to carry firearms on their person — as CBS and MSNBC recently did when it peddled false stories about those who were open carrying at some of the townhall protests and other gatherings. In polite society, guns shouldn’t be mentioned, and you shouldn’t let on that you own any — that’s a good way not to get invited to any more cocktail parties or afternoon coffee klatches. Popular culture — the movies, television, and so forth — present a dual picture on guns. Police and military types should have them and do great, heroic things with them, but anyone else who has one is a bucktoothed rube who is likely to either shoot himself with it, or else is some sort of racist moron who intends to do harm to a Person of Color. Again, the idea is to plant the meme in the minds of the people that there’s just something unacceptable — something fishy, if you will — about somebody who does or wants to own a gun. Eventually they’ll probably set up an email address at the White House so you can snitch on people like that.

It’s time that we stand together for the civil rights of ALL Americans and tell the haters that hoplophobia is NOT an acceptable bigotry anymore!
