ANTENA1 Television (Greece) Complicit in Expropriation of Greek Cypriots

ANTENA TV 1 (GREECE) HAS TURNED INTO A TURKISH SATELLITE PROMOTING THE OCCUPATION REGIME IN OCCUPIED CYPRUS

Short only by a few weeks before we enter the 37th year of the Turkish bloody invasion of Cyprus and continued occupation of half of the Republic of Cyprus and instead of ANTENA (Greece) focusing on the tragedy of Cyprus since the barbaric Turkish invasion in July and August 1974 and its consequences on the lives of the Greek Cypriot refugees, the continued plight of the relatives of the still missing people, the systematic and ruthless destruction and vandalism of well over 500 Orthodox churches and other religious places in the occupied, the plight of the Greek Cypriot enclaved and their extermination, the I DO NOT FORGET of the 200,000 Greek Cypriot refugees and displaced people and their demand to return and repossess their stolen properties, and despicably ANTENA 1(Greece) promotes the Turkish series “Ezel”. This Turkish production was shot also in areas under Turkish occupation since the invasion of 1974, beautiful Voukolida village in the Karpas Penisula as well as parts of occupied Kyrenia. Already the station received a high volume of telephone complaints, faxed letters and email protests for their decision to promote this Turkish production. The Cyprus Embassy in Athens has also been receiving complaints about this.

NOTE: It should be noted that ANTENA (Cyprus) is NOT involved and DOES NOT SHOW this Turkish production.

ACTION ALERT: We call upon all people and associations, to read, learn the item, publish, inform others, and most of all REACT by telephone calls to the station expressing indignation, write letters to the station, send emails, faxes and contact your Members of Parliament (for those in Greece) and complain asking for the withdrawal of this series. In protest you can also contribute by switching off and turn to other channels, there are so many around.

If you are Greek-American or Greek-Canadian ask Antenna to remove the Ezel show or else you will stop your subscription and change it to Mega or Alter, this will hurt their pocket, even if a few drop off. Because UNLIKE Greece and Cyprus where they rely on advertisers, in USA and CANADA to see ANTI is based on PAID subscriptions.

The following blog has mentioned something to this effect as well: http://taxalia.blogspot.com/2011/06/1_25.html

A few words about hotel Artemis in beautiful but occupied Voukolida:

Artemis hotel is a hotel/casino by the sea built by Turkish businessmen. The land on which it was built belongs to Greek Cypriot displaced persons of Voukolida village. Its golden sand beach is almost two miles long and very near the Ayia Thekla church – which the Turks and the Turkish Cypriots DEMOLISHED only a few weeks ago because it was…destructing the view of a new hotel under construction only 50 yards from the sea. A small paradise under Turkish continued occupation since 1974. They renamed the village of Voukolida to BAFRA.

Letter by Congressmen Sarbanes and Bilirakis

Congressmen John P. Sarbanes and Gus Bilirakis have written a joint letter to Congress dated 26 May, 2011 about the destruction of Ayia Thekla church titled “Concerning the Turkish Occupation of the Republic of Cyprus – Incident dated May 2, 2011 – Demolition of Orthodox Church in occupied Cyprus”. Demonstration

On the 23rd of June 2011 Greek Cypriot students demonstrated outside the Antena 1(Greece) studios and sent letters of protest demanding the termination of this Turkish production which is grossly offensive to the Greek Cypriots.

The Kyrenian Refugee Association has also addressed a letter of protest to the Management of ANTENA 1 (Greece). [Their letter, in Greek, is included in the PDF at the following link.]

Waving Greek flag

Any country that borrows too much money risks losing its sovereignty to its enemies, in more ways than it ever could have expected.

Protesters take over Finance Ministry as Athens granted more cash

(h/t: C. Cantoni at Gates of Vienna)

Protesters took over the Finance Ministry building in Athens on Friday, hanging a giant banner from the roof calling for a general strike, as Greece wrapped up tough negotiations with international officials and succeeded in being granted the next multi-billion-euro installment from its bailout package.

About 200 protesters blockaded the entrance to the ministry from dawn, preventing employees from entering, the Associated Press reported. They hung a banner draping five floors in front of the building and took down the European Union flag from the top of the ministry.

The protest came as experts from the EU, European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund, or IMF, were wrapping up a review of Greece’s implementation of economic reforms in return for 110 billion euros ($159.06 billion) in rescue loans from the EU and IMF.

The three bodies, known as the troika, decided in favor of granting Greece its fifth tranche, worth 12 billion euros, of bailout loans agreed last year.

The nearly month-long inspection of Greek finances by the troika concluded “positively” on Friday, the country’s Finance Ministry said, according to the Associated Press.

Greece has removed obstacles on foreigners willing to purchase real estate in border regions, according to Milliyet newspaper. The newspaper said Friday that those who are not a citizen of an EU country will also be able to buy property in the border regions of Greece, without receiving pre-authorization from the Defense Ministry. The approval for such sales will be given by local committees, Milliyet said. [emphasis added]

Islands across Turkey’s Aegean shores are defined as within the “border region” of Greece, according to laws that regulate the purchase and sale of properties. Turkish citizens can now buy property in the islands, Milliyet reported.

Greece has so far received 53 billion euros from its rescue deal since it first started tapping into the international bailout package in May last year.

More here.

randian left this comment:

In particular, some of the islands in the Aegean coast area were reclassified so that Turks could buy property there.

The EU seems to have forgotten that not so long ago Turkey once conquered Greece.

I’ve said several times on this forum that I thought Turkey would invade Greece again, I just never thought they’d be doing it with EU permission.

Double-eagle flag of the Byzantine Empire

I’m publishing this with reading material of The Fall of Constantinople:

“The blood ran in rivers down the steep streets from the heights of Petra toward the Golden Horn.”

This is absolutely sickening:

Bosnian musical ensemble celebrates İstanbul’s conquest

30 May 2011

The choir’s founder and arts director, Mehmet Bajraktarevic, said he was very proud to be in İstanbul for such an important occasion.

The Sultan Mehmed Fatih Ensemble, a Sarajevo-based choir, was at İstanbul’s historic Aya İrini Museum on May 29 to mark the 558th anniversary of the conquest of İstanbul by the Ottomans in 1453, marking the end of the Byzantine era. The choir performed a number of İlahis, or Muslim hymns, during the concert, which was organized by Turkey’s state-owned Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT).

The choir’s founder and arts director, Mehmet Bajraktarevic, said he was very proud to be in İstanbul for such an important occasion. “During my 35-year career, I’ve directed many concerts throughout Europe, but this is the most significant task that I have been given. I am honored that Sultan Mehmed Fatih was chosen to perform at Aya İrini on such an important day in history. This is by far the ‘trophy of my career’,” he said, adding that he was delighted to have been invited to perform at Aya İrini by TRT.

The performance at Aya İrini marked Sultan Mehmed Fatih’s ninth appearance in Turkey in seven years. “We are always excited to perform in Turkey. We are respected here, and our talent is recognized. While in our own country, Bosnia, people are not interested in our choir, or our İlahis. It saddens me, but it is a harsh reality,” Bajraktarevic said ruefully.

The choir director also shared information on the background of the choir. Formed in 2004, the ensemble is made up of nine pedagogues and 100 vocalists of varying age groups. “Sultan Mehmed Fatih has two generations of vocalists. We even have a mother and a daughter singing together,” Bajraktarevic said.

The choir was invited to perform on the anniversary of İstanbul’s conquest, after the general director of TRT, İbrahim Şahin, discovered the ensemble at a concert during a random visit to Bosnia. The ensemble is made up of different choirs from Bosnia and Turkey such as the Choir Dzulistan from Novi Pazar, Serbia. The ensemble’s popular repertoire consists of songs in several different languages, including Persian, Turkish, Bosnian and Arabic, with a unique blend of Western and Balkan influences and traditions.

EU versus Greece over religious symbols in schools

Waving Greek Flag

Greece is 98% Orthodox Christian.

By Sparta

I just received the following email:

Subject: War over Orthodox symbols

WOW! It’s surprising to see this happening in Greece. Involvement in the European Union does require a certain amount of conformity. Greece is becoming more cosmopolitan and diverse in its population, so I guess this is inevitable. I hope the cross on the flag doesn’t get eliminated. Scroll down and click on the link below…

Here is the article referenced in the email:

BBC: Greek battle over religious symbols

The head of the Greek Orthodox Church has warned the country’s new socialist government that it faces a major battle over removing religious symbols from schools.

The European Court in Strasbourg has ordered Italy to take down crucifixes from its classrooms, and Greece’s justice minister has acknowledged that it may have to follow suit. From Lamia in Central Greece, Malcolm Brabant reports.

Now, read a letter I wrote in 2002:

Dear all, in 2002 I sent a letter to ODYSSEY, but to my knowledge, it was never published. I feel that the letter is relevant today in view of the devastating fires in Greece. I bring to your attention the following points made in my letter. Stella

If Greece isn’t more careful, she will soon be confronted with an ever-growing Islamic population that will demand Greece remove the Cross from her flag because it offends them.

In my estimation, for all of her compassion and kindness, Greek authorities are making a terrible mistake that may some day cost Greece her very existence or national identity.

ODYSSEY
Letters to the Editor
20 January 2002

THIS LETTER IS IN DEFENSE OF GREECE

Dear Editor,

I believe that the letter written by Sophia Emmanuel-Katarias, of Naxos, Greece (Sept/Oct/02) is totally unfair regarding her accusations of Greece’s intolerance towards foreign immigrants.

It should be pointed out that Afghan refugees made their arduous journey to Greece, an Orthodox Christian country, while Iran and Turkey, both Muslim countries refused to take them.

There are several reasons why Muslims prefer immigrating to Greece. First, in Christian Greece, Muslim refugees are treated better than in either Turkey or Iran. Secondly, Muslim migration into Christian countries increases their numbers (such as in Greece). History has proven that as their numbers swell, such immigration eventually leads first to recognition as an ethnic minority followed by demands for “autonomy,” and then finally for “independence” as happened in the Balkans when Muslim Albanians swarmed illegally into Kosovo and turned Kosovo into a pure Muslim state.

The letter writer specifically mentions Greece as having “Albanophobia,” as well Greece should considering Albania’s threatening communist past and Albania’s extreme Muslim state of today. In the early 1900s, Serbs held ceremonies for Serbian priests whose heads had been cut off by the Albanian “Head-Hunters of the Balkans.” However, “Albanophobia” came into full swing when Communist dictator Tito, in his hatred of the Orthodox Christian Serbs, encouraged Muslim Albanians to cross illegally into Christian Kosovo and today we see the tragic result of “Albanophobia” in the confiscation of Serbia’s Jerusalem and putting Osama bin Laden’s Kosovo Liberation Army in control of that province. Furthermore, during NATO’s bombing of Kosovo, ethnic Albanians fled to Belgrade and surrounding Orthodox Christian countries such as Montenegro, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM). FYROM is now seeing the fruits of its compassion. One third of its land, with help from the United States, is now in the process of being wrested from it as demands for “autonomy” by many of the same Muslim ethnic Albanians who now refuse to go back to Kosovo. Instead, these “refugees” took up arms against the government that generously (and foolishly) offered them sanctuary. Their goal, as in Kosovo, is the establishment of yet another independent Muslim nation in the heart of Europe.

As a small nation, Greece is poor in resources in comparison to France, Italy and in particular, Germany which is now having problems with its own Turkish minority who were invited in as “Gastarbeiters,” (guest workers). If Greece isn’t more careful, she will soon be confronted with an ever growing Islamic population that will demand Greece remove the Cross from her flag because it offends them.

In my estimation, for all of her compassion and kindness, Greek authorities are making a terrible mistake that may some day cost Greece her very existence or national identity.

The letter writer should be careful for what she wishes. She just may get it.
