Austrian Independent: “Anger as WWII ‘killer’ dies in Austria”

(h/t: Sparta)

Deceased Nazi Milivoj Asner

Austria has been branded as a “paradise for Nazis” after it emerged that an alleged war criminal deceased in a care home in Carinthia.

A spokesman for a Caritas retirement centre in Klagenfurt confirmed newspaper reports claiming that Milivoj Asner passed away today (Mon). He said the Croat perished aged 98 in the institution last week.

Asner is suspected of being behind the deportation of hundreds of Serbs, Roma and members of the Jewish community in Croatia’s Ustasa movement during World War Two (WWII). Asner changed his name to Georg Aschner after fleeing to Austria when the Communists took over his homeland in 1945. He received the Austrian citizenship the next year.

Asner lived in Carinthian capital Klagenfurt to his death. Austrian prosecutors opened a case against him due to occurrences in WWII in 2004 before Croatia demanded his extradition one year later. However, Asner was spared a trial due to his mental condition.

Juridical decision-makers in Austria asked a German expert to examine the suspected war criminal in 2009 after they were accused of having acted biased as several expert opinions established by Austrian doctors suggested Asner was not fit for legal procedures.

The debate over how to handle the issue intensified in 2008 when British journalists claimed Asner – who allegedly suffered from dementia – must be strong enough to go to court after spotting him at a fan zone in Klagenfurt during the European Football Championship.

Now Efraim Zuroff, the director of the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s office in Jerusalem, Israel, has claimed Austria was a “paradise for Nazis.”

“His decisive role in the killing of hundreds of Jewish people, Serbians and Roma in the Slavonian city of Prozega is evident,” the historian said today (Mon) after being informed that Asner has died.

More here.

Who are the REAL Nazis?

Journalists these days stretch a very long way to confront conservative and counterjihadist European politicians with far-fetched accusations of somehow being soft on Nazism (e.g., see Strache – Le Pen meeting hit by Hitler controversy).

Left-wing bloggers do the same. To put it bluntly, they go out and look for some flimsy excuse to call anybody a “Nazi” who doesn’t agree with them. In the blogosphere, this type of logical fallacy has been given its own name: Reductio ad Hitlerium. As a reaction to the tiresome frequency of such arguments, Godwin’s Law holds that “As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1 (100%).”

The now-infamous Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs used that technique to backstab the entire counterjihad movement, which he once pretended to support, and he still uses it against conservative politicians and commentators, counterjihadists, and Tea Party spokesmen in the US. (See Charles Johnson hits bottom, digs, Charles Johnson hits bottom, digs (Part 2), and The Return of the Vlaams Belang.)

…and who were their victims?

But what have those journalists and bloggers to say when an actual Nazi comes to light – a Nazi from the days when the Third Reich made common cause with Muslims in persecuting and slaughtering Jews, Roma, and Christian Serbs?

From those Europeans who live nearby, or who could safely visit places where I cannot: How about a retrospective on the victims? How about showing the places where they once lived, and telling us whatever is still known about their lives that were so tragically interrupted?

Woman arrested in Kentucky for torture, murder of Bosnian Serbs

Croatian arrested in Ky. on Bosnia torture charges

(h/t: mawskrat)

…U.S. Marshals arrested 52-year-old Azra Basic on Tuesday in Stanton, about 45 miles east of Lexington, where she lives and works at a nearby food processing plant. She has lived in Kentucky for several years, but it’s not clear how she wound up in the rural city best known for its annual corn festival.

The Croatian-born Basic is wanted in Bosnia on charges of committing war crimes against ethnic Serb civilians in 1992, including acts of murder and torture, Assistant U.S. Attorney James Arehart wrote in a complaint requesting extradition.

Arehart says Bosnian authorities accuse Basic, a one-time member of the Croatian Army, of killing at least one person and torturing others at three camps from April to June 1992, during Europe’s bloodiest conflict since World War II.
[…]
Basic said at the court hearing that she had been working at the Nestle Prepared Foods plant in Mount Sterling, where frozen foods are processed. Nash declined to comment on whether Basic has any family in the state and why she was in Kentucky. A message left for the media relations office at Nestle was not immediately returned Thursday.

Just as an aside, the thought of a torture-murderer working in any food processing plant is stomach-turning. According to the Washington Post, “Basic was an employee at the Mount Sterling, Ky., Nestle Prepared Foods plant that makes Hot Pockets-brand sandwiches, the company said, declining to provide additional details.”

Court records list her as having lived at two addresses in Stanton.

Basic also worked at the Stanton Nursing Home, said neighbor Eli Vires, whose mother-in-law stayed there. Basic displayed compassion toward her patients, Vires said, quoting her as saying: “The only thing that can’t be replaced was human life.”
[…]
Bosnian authorities in Doboj charged Basic in January 1993 as an unknown defendant, using witness statements, medical examinations and forensic experts between 1992 and 2001 to identify her. Interpol traced Basic to Kentucky in 2004 and an international arrest warrant went out in 2006.

Arehart’s complaint accuses Basic of committing crimes at three camps near the majority-Serbian settlement of Cardak in Derventa. Witness said the Croatian military took ethnic Serbs from the Cardak settlement in late April of 1992 and tortured them.

Radojic Garic, listed in the complaint as a witness, said Blagoje Djuras was beaten unconscious. Garic said Basic then stabbed him in the neck, killing him, and dragged other Serbs to the body “and made us drink that blood.”

A second witness, Dragan Kovacevic, told investigators in October 1994 that Basic slit the throat of Djuras. Arehart said Kovacevic identified a picture of Basic in December 2009.

Another man, Sreten Jovanovic, told investigators in September 1992 that he was forced to drink gasoline, beaten unconscious and his hands and face were set on fire by Basic, who was wearing a military police uniform from a brigade in Rijeka, a port city in Croatia.

Arehart wrote that a subsequent medical examination concluded that Jovanovic suffered “torture in captivity.”

Other witnesses listed in the complaint said Basic and other soldiers beat and burned them and pulled their nails out with pliers.

In August 1992, witness Cedo Maric told Bosnian investigators that Basic cut a cross and four “S” letters into his forehead before hacking his neck below the Adam’s apple.

In November 1994 testimony, Mile Kuzmanovic told investigators Basic forced him to “swallow a handful of salt and eat Yugoslav money” before beating him with boots, weapon butts, metal bars and batons. Kuzmanovic said Basic and others forced him to “lick blood off floors covered in broken glass and crawl on the glass with a knotted rope in his mouth with which soldiers used to pull out the teeth of prisoners.”

I will spare you the obligatory Serb-bash that appeared at the end of this article. Two decades on, it is still impossible for any mainstream media outlet or wire service to report a story about Serbs, without poisoning the well by repeating baseless, and often provably false, allegations against other prominent Serbs, or against the Serbian people as a whole. After all, it would never do for the audience to start feeling sympathetic toward Serbs.

The mainstream media still insists that if the UN, or any kangaroo court associated with it, claims that a Serb is guilty, then it is so, despite the utter absence of due process of law in such venues. But then, during the Clinton Administration, these same media outlets and their operatives played a vital part in starting and continuing the war against the Serbian people. All I can say is that what goes around, comes around. Some day these media minions may themselves be facing a kangaroo court in some unknown part of the world. Do not expect me to speak up in their behalf.

After Obama’s Meeting With Netanyahu, MSM Works Overtime To Manufacture Anti-Israel Sentiment

by WrathofG-d ( 13 Comments › )

The international mainstream media has been working overtime to shift the narrative regarding the Arab-Israel conflict, and place all blame on Israel’s shoulders – despite the reality being the complete opposite.  Although many of us have come to accept this from the press, a sharp left turn against Israel has become more apparent, and they are using all the weapons of propaganda in their arsenal.

Fauxtography

What better place to start than with with Fautography from the AP in Bilin?  The Associated Press would have you believe that this man holding a key aloft in one hand, and raising the other in a defiant fist, directly in front of a photographer Bernat Armangue simply “passed out” from tear gas at a Nakba demonstration this week.

For those who do not know, Bilin is home of the West Bank’s longest continuous run of manufactured dissent and grandstanding for the cameras.  It is “ground zero” for the ISM, and their ilk to Paliwood riots, and “IDF abuses”.

_______________________________________________

Inverting The Facts / Shaping The Discussion

The AP however, didn’t stop there.  Much of their, and other’s, media coverage of Netanyahu’s meeting with Obama this week tended to concentrate on Netanyahu’s refusal to formally endorse the creation of a Palestinian state dispite the fact that this is a misnomer regarding his position.  In fact, while with President Obama,  Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, spoke eagerly about renewing negotiations and expressed support for Palestinian autonomy.  Despite this, the media’s coverage implied that his position presented an obstacle to peace.

While the media outlets focused on the negative with Netanyahu, the real obstacle to peace – Hamas – continued to be treated completely differently.  In an Associated Press article published the day after the meeting, the A.P. provided a platform for Hamas leaders to propagandize to the West and falsely express “moderate” positions, such as a quote from Hamas lawmaker Yehiye Moussa saying, the group is “not demanding to destroy Israel.”

This is despite the fact that, as writer Karen Laub point out, that Hamas is not about to change its ideology – which explicitly precludes any recognition of Israel.  Insofar that it is the historically stated position of Hamas that it is their ultimate goal to destroy Israel, an honest reporter would have to conclude that nothing has changed with Hamas.  However, Karen Laub streteches reality to note that Hamas has begun “raising the possibility they would someday accept a Palestinian state alongside Israel.”

So while Netanyahu’s call for Palestinian autonomy is treated as insufficient and anti-peace, Hamas’s rhetorical, though not ideological or practical, shift from total rejectionism is presented as a cause for hope.

Blaming The Victim; Ignoring The Huge Kiffiyah Wearing Elephant

Last, but definatly not least, in this hall of shame is England’s “The Independent” which stands out from the crowd with a glaring omission.

In an article by Donald Macintyre, “Israel goes cold on plan for regional peace deal,” a list of “obstacles to peace” includes issues such as settlements, Palestinian infighting, Iran, Syria and Israel’s own apparent reluctance to publicly endorse a Palestinian state.

Putting aside the relative importance or otherwise of issues such as settlements being primary stumbling blocks, Macintyre conveniently forgets a very real and potentially the greatest obstacle to peace – Palestinian terror and violence.

How can Macintyre omit the thousands of missiles fired from Gaza at Sderot and surrounding Israeli communities for several years (and before the Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip)? Indeed, only the day before Macintyre’s piece was published, Sderot endured a Qassam rocket attack on a courtyard adjacent to two private homes. One resident was wounded while several others were treated for shock.

And how can Macintyre forget the brutal campaign of suicide attacks against Israeli buses, cafes and other civilian targets that has claimed the lives of over 1000 Israelis and wounded thousands more since the year 2000? While major attacks have declined recently thanks to Israeli counter measures such as the Security Fence, the incentive for terrorist groups to carry out similar acts of violence has not.

We could also add to the list other potential obstacles to peace, for example, Palestinian intractability on issues such as the right of return, incitement in Palestinian media and the education system that has poisoned Palestinian minds, and the increasing role of Islamic extremism represented by Hamas.

The way that the Pro-Arab propagandists, useful-idiots, and Terror sympathisersr associate home building, with murder is truly disgusting.

DONT JUST SIT THERE….DO SOMETHING!

Please write to The Independent – letters@independent.co.uk – to remind them that there are many potential obstacles to peace and that some of these that the paper has omitted, are the responsibility of the Palestinian side to overcome.

You can also contact The Associated Press – to remind them of their duty to provide unbiased, truthful reporting on such an important issue.

U.S. Now Sees Iran As Pursuing Nuclear Bomb

by WrathofG-d ( 11 Comments › )

It was reported today in the LA Times, that U.S. Intellegence officials are now reversing their previously staunch position regarding the infamous 2007 N.I.E report which claimed that Iran had halted all work on nuclear bombs in 2003.  It seems that they now believe that Iran will reach “developmental milestones” this year!

U.S. now sees Iran as pursuing nuclear bomb

In a reversal since a 2007 report, U.S. officials expect the Islamic Republic to reach development milestones this year.

Reporting from Washington — Little more than a year after U.S. spy agencies concluded that Iran had halted work on a nuclear weapon, the Obama administration has made it clear that it believes there is no question that Tehran is seeking the bomb.

In his news conference this week, President Obama went so far as to describe Iran’s “development of a nuclear weapon” before correcting himself to refer to its “pursuit” of weapons capability.

Obama’s nominee to serve as CIA director, Leon E. Panetta, left little doubt about his view last week when he testified on Capitol Hill. “From all the information I’ve seen,” Panetta said, “I think there is no question that they are seeking that capability.”

The language reflects the extent to which senior U.S. officials now discount a National Intelligence Estimate issued in November 2007 that was instrumental in derailing U.S. and European efforts to pressure Iran to shut down its nuclear program.

As the administration moves toward talks with Iran, Obama appears to be sending a signal that the United States will not be drawn into a debate over Iran’s intent.

“When you’re talking about negotiations in Iran, it is dangerous to appear weak or naive,” said Joseph Cirincione, a nuclear weapons expert and president of the Ploughshares Fund, an anti-proliferation organization based in Washington.

Cirincione said the unequivocal language also worked to Obama’s political advantage. “It guards against criticism from the right that the administration is underestimating Iran,” he said.

Iran has long maintained that it aims to generate electricity, not build bombs, with nuclear power. But Western intelligence officials and nuclear experts increasingly view those claims as implausible.

U.S. officials said that although no new evidence had surfaced to undercut the findings of the 2007 estimate, there was growing consensus that it provided a misleading picture and that the country was poised to reach crucial bomb-making milestones this year.

Obama’s top intelligence official, Dennis C. Blair, the director of national intelligence, is expected to address mounting concerns over Iran’s nuclear program in testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee today.

It is best summed up by Carl In Jerusalem:

Am I the only one who is wondering whether someone tried to sabotage the Bush administration’s ability to take action against Iran? Why?

The NIE was criticized from the day it came out. Some speculated that it was issued to facilitate a rapprochement with the Iranians at Israel’s expense. Others claimed the CIA had been hoodwinked into issuing the report. Even the US’s senior intelligence officers retreated from it. But the retreat had little effect. Despite specific intelligence presented by Israel, the Bush administration no longer had a military option. And it wouldn’t let Israel have one either.

Now that there’s a new administration in power, whose goal is ‘discussions’ with Iran and not force, the NIE is being discarded into the dustbins of history. Anyone else smell a rat here?

This should be a very interesting development insofar that the MSM, and liberal establishment jumped all over the 2007 N.I.E. report to call President Bush a “war monger”, etc., embarrass him, and otherwise make it impossible for him to take military action against Iran.   Now, although no actual new evidence has been put forth, those same people, now working under the Obama administration, are very quickly backing away from the 2007 report.  At best, it was a mistake; at worst they put the entire security and safety of the United States at risk, and played nuclear Russian roulette just to score political points.
