A Culture of Violence

A week ago, Yoram Ettinger wrote an op-ed piece on YNET News with some sober advice for Israel’s government about the culture of violence in the Arab world in the last 1400 years as described by two Arab columnists in the Middle East:

Galal Nasser, a prominent columnist in Egypt’s al-Ahram Weekly recently wrote: “Violence has become the norm in Arab life, both on official and non-official levels…There are many types of violence besetting the domestic scenes of Arab countries, making relations among them unpredictable and unstable.”

Nasser also notes that “Some analysts speculate about a culture of violence and argue that its roots are embedded in religious texts that call for Jihad, that urge the faithful to wage a perpetual fight for virtue and against sinfulness…” he adds that “Neighborliness doesn’t seem to count for much either. There are many instances of strained relations among Arab countries. Currently, tensions exist between Morocco and Algeria, Libya and Tunisia, Jordan and Palestine, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, Syria and Iraq.”

Hence, an Israeli withdrawal from the mountain ridges of Judea and Samaria (the most effective tank obstacle in the region, overtowering Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and the 9-15 mile sliver along the Mediterranean) would ignore the intense, volatile and unpredictable 1,400 year old inter-Arab violence and its implications for the security requirements of the “infidel” Jewish State.

Obama and much of the world expects Israel to have a level of peace with the Arab world that the Arab nations don’t have with each other. They expect the Arab world to love Jews in ways that they can’t bring themselves to love other Arabs. It doesn’t even occur to them to question such an impossible goal.

Meanwhile, Dr. Marwan Kabalan last month wrote in the Persian Gulf News:

“Six decades ago, immediately after the departure of the colonial powers, the Arab world had big and ambitious dreams: unity, development, equality, prosperity and a reasonable degree of economic independence. Sixty years on, one is tempted to ask if the Arab world has really realized any of these objectives and whether they were realistic and achievable in the first place…

“Arab rulers have clung to power with complete disregard for public interest…The result was total failure in every aspect of state activities…and to a consequent increase in the use of force to maintain order and control…One consequence of these policies was the weakening of national identity and the revival of communal tension. Hence, people in Iraq and Lebanon and many other Arab countries came to identify themselves as Sunnis, Shiites, Kurds and Christians; rather than Iraqis, Lebanese or whatever else.”

“No wonder that the Arab world looks today much more fragmented, poorer and hopeless than it was at the dawn of independence… For most of these ills, Arab regimes have only themselves to blame. They have indeed left us with very little to celebrate.”

The Arab world has oil wealth that could change everything for the lives of their people. They refuse to do it. It’s not a part of their culture to turn natural resources wealth into enterprise and progress. Even if a real peace deal between Israel and the Arab nations were possible, it wouldn’t change the problems that the Arab nations have with each other and within themselves.

Israel’s defensible borders and Israel’s agreements concluded with Arab leaders must withstand the implications of potential highly probable and violent abrogation and inter-Arab regime-change. Israel’s security requirements must be the derivative of the 1,400 year old inter-Arab reality: No inter-Arab comprehensive peace, no inter-Arab compliance with most inter-Arab agreements, no inter-Arab ratification of all inter-Arab borders and no Arab democracy!

Hence, the security indispensability of the mountain ridges of Judea and Samaria – the Cradle of Jewish history – for the survival of the Jewish State.

The Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria are quite literally saving Israel’s life.

Rabbis to US Ambassador: Time to ‘Go Biblical’ with Arabs

Arutz Sheva is reporting that the Rabbinical Congress for Peace (RCP) has met with America’s Ambassador to Israel to request a change in American policy in the Middle East.

This isn’t the first time that the Rabbinical Congress for Peace has sent a message to Obama:

The Rabbinical Congress for Peace (RCP) comprised of over 350 leading rabbis in Israel and 850 abroad has sent a message through a personal contact to President-elect Barack Obama congratulating him on his election and at the same time reminded him of his prayer at the Western Wall and the biblical promise of Jewish sovereignty in the entire Land of Israel.

The RCP wrote that “we appreciate the fact that on your last visit to Israel you prayed to G-d at the Western Wall in Jerusalem, the holiest Jewish site, and according to media the following was the text of your prayer: “Lord-Protect my family and me. Forgive me my sins, and help me guard against pride and despair. Give me the wisdom to do what is right and just. And make me an instrument of your will.”

“Consistent with your focus on the will of G-d we trust that you are aware of the will of G-d when it comes to Jewish sovereignty in the entire Land of Israel. We therefore trust that you will accord the will of G-d concerning all of Israel the same divine importance as you do with regard to other areas of the will of G-d.

“The last 15 years have proven without a shadow of a doubt that the “land for peace” formula, besides being a formula that goes against the Divine will, is ineffective, obsolete, and an exercise in futility. Most of all it is a dangerous policy that only leads to bloodshed and instability in the region…”

Rabbinical Congress for Peace reminds Obama of G-d’s promise

In today’s meeting with America’s Ambassador to Israel, Mr. James Cunningham, the Rabbinical Congress for Peace explained everything to him with a refreshing directness that needs to be promulgated in America on an ongoing basis.

Rabbis to US Ambassador: Time to ‘Go Biblical’ with Arabs
December 31, 2009

(IsraelNN.com) A delegation of the Rabbinical Congress for Peace (RCP) met with U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Mr. James Cunningham, today and called for a reassessment of the entire U.S. policy vis-à-vis the Israelis and Palestinians. The rabbis told Ambassador Cunningham that it was time to try the Biblical approach to the dispute over the Land of Israel.

“The past 17 years have proven without a shadow of a doubt that every square inch ceded by Israel to the Palestinians was transformed into a platform of hatred and terrorism,” RCP Director Rabbi Avrohom Shmuel Lewin told the ambassador. “In other words, the ‘land for peace’ formula in the Israel-Palestinian context, besides being a formula that goes against the Divine will, is ineffective, obsolete, and an exercise in futility. Most of all it is a dangerous policy that only leads to bloodshed and instability in the region and harms vital American interests in the region as well,” Lewin said.

‘Land for peace doesn’t work’

The delegation was headed by Rabbi Joseph Gerlitzky, Chairman of the RCP, who is also the Rabbi of Central Tel Aviv where the US embassy is located. Rabbi Gerlitzky presented the ambassador with the Halachic (Jewish legal) ruling signed by over 350 prominent rabbis in Israel that it is forbidden to give up even one inch of territory controlled by Israel today because it will bring bloodshed and instability to the region.

“In the name of the overwhelming majority of rabbis in Israel,” he said, “we request of you Mr. Ambassador, to convey our Halachic message to President Barack Obama that it is time for a complete reversal and reassessment of U.S. policy in the Middle East. The ‘land for peace’ policy never worked and harms U.S. interests in the region and the world at large.”

Ambassador Cunningham told the rabbis that he does not see how the problem can be solved “without taking into consideration the Palestinians,” to which Rabbi Gold remarked: “Ever since we started taking the Palestinians into consideration the situation only worsened.”

The ambassador asked the rabbis, “So what is your solution to the problem?”

Rabbi Gerlitzky replied: “You must switch the entire approach to the situation. We all believe in the Holy Bible and up until now we tried every formula except for that which is delineated in the Bible. Let’s try it and who knows, Mr. Ambassador, maybe this is your defining moment, that G-d Almighty has placed you in this capacity in order to precipitate a new course which will bring a true peace to the entire region.”

The Bible says that the Land of Israel belongs to the Jewish people exclusively, and commands the Jews to defeat any enemy nation that encroaches on that sovereignty.

Rabbis to US Ambassador: Time to ‘Go Biblical’ with Arabs

The Rabbinical Congress for Peace is right! There is NO Middle East Peace Process and the attempts to pretend otherwise have resulted in nothing but bloodshed and war. Repeating the same mistakes for another 17 years would be monstrous.

It’s time to understand that Israeli sovereignty over the land is the only solution. It doesn’t mean that all Arabs would have to be expelled. Israel has 1.5 million Arabs living inside the green line.

Israel could give some Arabians in Judea, Samaria and Gaza a type of residency permit that would NOT allow them to vote Israel into an Islamic state while also NOT allowing them to have access to all of Israel again (as they had prior to the first and second intifadas).

Israel must have sovereignty over all the land from the Jordan River to the Sea.

Project for The Blogmocracy: defined terms dictionary!

As I have stated before, it is my sincere belief that one of the biggest threats we face from progressivism today is a language desecration. At the forefront of the war on language is “J Street,” which has decided to call itself a “pro-Israel, pro-peace” organization.

This thread should hopefully become part of a series on Blogmocracy, to catalogue the many places where the progressives have desecrated the English language. The goal will be to identify the specific language desecrations, in order to correct these problems, and correctly define mis-defined words in the English language. In time, hopefully this can be copied in other languages.

The first in this series will start off with the word PEACE.

Shalom

Dictionary.com defines “peace” as: the normal, non warring condition of a nation, group of nations, or the world. Source. This definition meshes well with the biblical concept of “Shalom,” which wiki defines quite well right here:

Shalom, in the liturgy and in the transcendent message of the Christian scriptures, means more than a state of mind, of being or of affairs. Derived from the Hebrew root shalam – meaning to be safe or complete, and by implication, to be friendly or to reciprocate. Shalom, as term and message, seems to encapsulate a reality and hope of wholeness for the individual, within societal relations, and for the whole world. To say joy and peace, meaning a state of affairs where there is no dispute or war, does not begin to describe the sense of the term. Completeness seems to be at the center of shalom as we will see in the meaning of the term itself, in some derivatives from its root, shalam, in some examples of its uses in Jewish and Christian Scriptures, and in some homophone terms from other Semitic languages.

This is all well and good, but how do the progressives define this all-important word? Let’s see the way they use this term…

United for Peace and Justice

Code Pink (a “peace” group)

Peace Now

J Street (“pro-Israel, pro-peace“)

U.S. Institute for Peace

Jewish Voice for Peace

Christian Peacemaker Teams

United Nations Peacekeepers

What do all of those organizations have in common? They all have a part in the ongoing war on language, raging across the world.

They all apparently define peace as “surrender.” As such, they are actually not pro-peace, but they are pro-war for the other side. They are looking to redefine “peace” as a term which is synonymous with pacifism, which, as I showed very clearly, is NOT the actual definition of peace.

And so, that is why I like to end my statements with the following…

I am pro-peace, pro-human rights, pro-humanity, pro-American, pro-Israel, and pro-Judeo-Christian values. This is why I believe it is imperative to stand up for our basic values, and never back down against progressivism. We must never cede the language!

Recall the old Roman maxim: “If you want peace, prepare for war.” – Publius Flavius Vegetius Renatus

Sometimes war is necessary in order for peace to be possible. This is something that Gandhi never understood. He is the same man who told the British to “give up” to the Nazis, as a “true sign” of nonviolence, and told the Jews to “dare Germans to shoot them,” rather than move to “Palestine.”

In this screwed up ideology, fighting genocide is equivalent to committing genocide. Their version of “peace,” as I already documented in other posts, involve laying down and committing suicide.

I am sorry, but that is not “peace,” it is genocide. The next time some so-called “peace” group claims to be pro-peace, we should never let them get away with false claims. We must ask them what they mean by “peace,” and how they define “peace.” And then we should ask how they hope to bring about “peace” through absolute surrender to mass murderers/human butchers.

Next to follow in the series: justice, human rights, racism, imperialism, colonialism, apartheid, progressivism, liberalism, West Bank, genocide, zionism, patriotism, social justice, and due process. This is just for starters!

As a break from the regular (usually depressing and negative) news, we deal with all week, I offer a chance to add some light to the darkness, and positivity to this world. (or at least the Blogmocracy)

(Explanation of lyrics)

In the Shema prayer, Jews say, “You shall love God with all your heart, with all your life and with all your possessions.” This is a commandment to be willing to give up even our lives and our possessions in the pursuit of meaning.

The Jewish Sages explain that for some people, their money is more valuable than their life, so the Torah needs to state both. There are plenty of people who are willing to give up their lives for their money.

How many people do you know who are spending so much time making money that they have no time to actually “live”?

Each one of us knows deep down that life itself is so gorgeous that all of its bothersome details just pale into insignificance. At the same time, so many of us feel that we are just not tapping into that goodness. We know there is so much more out there that we are just not experiencing, so much we are missing out on.

The only way to engage fully in life is by doing exactly that: Savor every bite food; focus intently on the warmth of the sun on your skin; see the goodness in those around you, and love them for it. Even savor changing your beautiful baby’s diaper. It’s all there to be enjoyed. Life is rich, so rich, that even its most mundane aspects can be heavenly.

Unfortunately, the effort of enjoying life is often so great, that we would rather not bother. The effort of really focusing in order to fully experience the joy of living is such a hassle that we just mindlessly go through the motions. Deep down we know we are missing out when we do that, so we have to find a way to convince ourselves that we really are trying to find fullness in life.

The most common distraction from truly enjoying the living is the pursuit of money. We convince ourselves that once we have enough money, we will be able to enjoy life in its fullest sense. Quite obviously, this is not a means for engaging in life. It is merely a sophisticated excuse for not doing so.

Don’t just chase money for the future, chase life now! TIf you want to enjoy life, you have to take the effort to enjoy the “now” – not build toward some sort of wonderful future where all will be so much better. Life is rich for you now. Life is full for you now.

Don’t let the pursuit of a better life be an excuse for not living that better life right at this moment.
