TV crew kicked out of U.N. free speech event

GENEVA – A television production crew was expelled Thursday from a United Nations meeting discussing freedom of expression and defamation of religions.

Two journalists from the French-German cultural channel ARTE were asked to leave a meeting room at the UN’s European headquarters during a public session of a human rights body preparing for a racism conference in South Africa later this year.

The journalists were working on a documentary on how the issue of human rights is debated at the United Nations.

According to a diplomatic source, the expulsion announced by the chairman of the session, Russian representative Yuri Boychenko, was requested by the Organisation of Islamic Conference and by the African group of states.

“It is regrettable that he was not informed of the procedures that allow a public session to become a private one,” Marie Heuze, chief spokeswoman at the UN in Geneva said.

The expulsion took place when the debate was raging on freedom of expression and the defamation of religions, two issues which are proving particularly sensitive in a proposed declaration for the conference in Durban, South Africa.

According to Muslim participants, human rights should take into account defamation of religions, while the Europeans are opposed to its inclusion.

A British delegate said any mention of this concept in the resolution “damages the prospects” of a successful conference in Durban.

According to a diplomatic source, at least three European countries — Britain, Denmark and the Netherlands, have threatened to boycott the conference if the resolution is accepted.

The United States, Canada and Israel have already said they would not attend the event, which is scheduled to take place April 20 to 24.

The earlier 2001 Durban conference on racism, held just a few days before the September 11 attacks on the United States and against the backdrop of the second Palestinian intifada, ended in acrimony amid accusations of anti-Semitism.

Israel Rejects UN Condemnation As “Irrelevant”

un-human-rights-council-logo(IsraelNN.com) Israel has rejected the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) resolution “strongly condemning” Israel’s counter-terrorist operations in Hamas-controlled Gaza. The non-binding resolution was adopted Monday by a coalition of 33 African, Asian, Arab, and South American states. Thirteen European states abstained, while Canada was the sole “no” vote. The United States and Israel are not members of the Council.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry spokespeople roundly rejected the HRC resolution as “irrelevant and one-sided.” The HRC itself, Israel noted, is dominated by Islamic and non-aligned states, while Western democratic nations “refused to give their support to this resolution or lend it moral credence.” Japan, Korea, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ukraine and Cameroon also abstained.

“The politically-motivated, almost exclusive focus on Israel has become a repulsive habit of the Council,” the Foreign Ministry said, adding that the Human Rights Council is once again exposing “its true face as a body exploited by states whose behavior is far from ideal, where human rights are concerned. This allows the Council’s attention to be diverted from most of the regions of the world, while the fate of their residents is left to criminal negligence or abuse by Council members or their allies.”

Israel finally responds appropriately to the witless U.N.  I imagine however that those who are Anti-Israel will very quickly quote this non-binding resolution as “further evidence” of Israel’s violation of international law, and U.N. resolutions.  But then again the facts have never been their friend.

The Images The Media Doesn’t Show

An incredible article written by the mother of an IDF Soldier. Read the article in full HERE.

Excerpt:

Yesterday, mortars were fired FROM the school In Jebalya. This was a direct and intentional attack on Israel, on Israel’s soldiers and population. Mortars are explosions. They are loud. You can’t pretend you didn’t hear them. Many months ago, I went to a ceremony on a base where Elie had completed his basic training. Part of the ceremony included Elie’s group showing their parents what they had learned. After the awards and the talking, some of the soldiers ran to the armored personnel vehicles, while others, including Elie sat on the ground and watched. An officer came near me, as I stood watching with my youngest daughter. He told me to sit down with the girl “on your lap.” So, we sat down, as the soldiers were doing. As another officer was explaining to the crowd about the types of explosives that would be fired, where they would be targeting (the hill a few kilometers in the distance), etc. I saw the soldiers stick their fingers in their ears.

I thought to myself – they’ve been doing this – they know. So I told my daughter to do the same…quickly. She did, and so did I. Except – then I couldn’t hear the explanation and so I uncovered my ears. Now, I’ve lived in Israel more than 15 years, but there is still sometimes a delay factor in my Hebrew comprehension. Now they are going to fire…took me too long and so, I heard and felt the BOOM as the cannons fired.

Everyone in that building yesterday KNEW that the school was being used as a launching ground…and yet, apparently not one of those thought it would be a smart thing to leave. That seems strange to me, unnatural. I was once in Jerusalem, walking with by two daughters when something “exploded” ahead of me. Everyone around me stopped, as I did. It was a bus hitting something that went flying in the air and crashed loudly into something else. People began to move and yet I stood there, unsure what to do. It should be both human instinct and parental instinct to move away from danger.

And the people who now mourn the “innocents” who died in yesterday’s attack on the United Nations school don’t question why people remained in the building from which these weapons were fired. They don’t question that this defies human instinct and certainly what should have been every parent’s first reaction.

Israel Fires Near UN School; Dozens Dead

Okay, you Jewish bastards! This is where I draw the line! YOU KILLED A DONKEY!

GAZA (Reuters) – Israeli tank fire killed up to 40 Palestinians at a United Nations school in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, medical sources at two Gaza hospitals said.

Two tank shells exploded outside the school, residents said, spraying shrapnel on people inside and outside the building, where hundreds of Palestinians had sought refuge from fighting between Israeli soldiers and Hamas militants.

Reuters journalists filmed bodies scattered on the ground amid pools of blood and torn shoes and clothes. A donkey also lay on the ground in its own blood. (Source: Reuters)

Seriously, why are people surprised by this? Islamic terrorists have been using U.N. property to launch attacks for years. Here is a clip of militants firing missiles from a U.N. school in Gaza (unclear if it’s the same school):

And here’s a clip of terrorists using a U.N. Ambulance to hitch a ride:

And here’s a picture of a Hezbollah flag inside a U.N. compound:

If the U.N. is going to shelter and shield Islamic terrorists, they should be fair game.

[UPDATE]

Looks like those casualties are the result of the Islamic TERRORISTS (Lex) There are now reports that much of the damage was done by secondary explosions:

The Israeli official said “hostile fire” was directed at the soldiers from within the school. He said soldiers returned fire and multiple explosions went off, presumably emanating from munitions stored there.

Israel has responded in a video.

[UPDATE 2]

Gateway Pundit is reporting that at least two known Hamas terrorists were at the school, and that several missiles and launchers were found at the site.
