First things first, Jimmy Buffet died yesterday. There will be many margaritas and cheeseburgers consumed today in his wake. Some of the best times that I ever had at concerts were his shows, his shows and especially the show in the parking lot. The parking lots full of parrot-heads were a show only rivaled by the scene at The Grateful Dead concerts. Except, the parrot-heads had lots of money and the food and drinks were much better. If you’ve ever been there, you know what I’m talking about. Once, a true parrot-head brought his very large sailboat to the parking lot here in PGH. They were dressed as pirates and were handing out food and booze and playing music before the show. RIP, Jimmy. It was your last trip around the sun.

Week one, 2023. There are a ton of games all weekend, none of them really matter as it’s week 1 and these are tune-ups. Let’s start with $1000 fake bucks again and see what happens. Last year, I went broke, erasing the gains from the year before and some from the year before that. It’s a $100 bet when noted, some games will not be wagered. Week 1? Not much
The team to watch this year (and the next few) are the Colorado Buffaloes and their new head coach, Deion “Prime Time” Sanders. Prime Time showed up last year and told those who don’t want to be there to leave. His players now will sit at the front of class, dress and act respectfully, and be real men, not hoods. His words. Colorado football is not a powerhouse and had no big history like ‘Bama or Georgia. If anyone can turn this program around, it’s Prime Time.
Colorado @ 17 TCU 12:00 PM FOX. TCU got blown out in the national championship last year at the hands of the Georgia Bulldogs. The Buffs are 21 point dogs on the road in this big test right out of the gate. I’m not betting on this but will watch.

Red deer were imported a hundred years ago and just boomed. The Germans love wild venison and impiety loads of shot and processed meat. Helicopters with shooter in the right seat and pilot in the left. They shoot up the Southern Alps valleys from bottom to top then go back in and hover on the edge of a cliff slope the shooter jumps out hogties the legs of the deer to a strop under the chopper and then steps back onto the skid . They collect the kill until they have a full load under slung and then vacate the valley. Back in the day chopper pilots would pay off their chopper in 3 months shooting. Then they started using nets and twin net carriers propelled by shotgun shells to live capture. Wrestling and hog-tying a live stag on the edge of a steep slope is no easy task, and then lifting it under-slung is still very profitable. Life expentency can be a wee bit problematic however. There are still about 50 choppers working the Southern Alps even today.

I guess a stent is possible, but there may be higher risks. When we talked to her friend a little bit ago, she thought it might be because there was a chance the artery would rupture or something.
With blockage like this, it almost has to be hereditary. My cholesterol, even both for the first surgery, was only around 150. The last few times I’ve had it checked, it’s been around 100. My mom’s dad was 65 when he died from a heart attack. Her brother was 74, and she was 90. I must’ve gotten all this crap from her side of the family!

They filed a bogus bar complaint against him, which will take months or years to resolve. In the meantime, if he applies for pro hac vice status in order to appear in a state where he’s not a member of the bar, it will likely be rejected as a result of the pending disciplinary matter in his home state.
It’s just like the Trump prosecutions. None of the charges will ultimately stick. Even if they get convictions on some of them, they’ll be overturned on appeal. But that will take years. The point is to keep him out of office.

As for the “nominated by Trump” part, when a vacancy comes up in a Democrat state during a Republican administration (or vice versa), the nominees are put forward by the Senators in that state. Verdict: Misleading. Compared with most of the earth’s history, this summer is unusually cold. The “record” referred to is kept by the United Nations World Meteorological Organization and European climate service Copernicus. It goes back only to 1940.
Researchers for the Smithsonian Institution surveyed the earth’s temperatures over the last 500 million years. As you can see from the chart below, the earth has been much hotter for most of the past 500 million years.
This study was not undertaken by climate change deniers. In fact, the researchers who undertook it wanted to prove how devastating climate change can be to life on earth.
“The two researchers also thought a temperature curve could counter climate contrarians’ claim that global warming is no concern because Earth was much hotter millions of years ago. Wing and Huber wanted to show the reality of ancient temperature extremes—and how rapid shifts between them have led to mass extinctions. Abrupt climate changes, Wing says, ‘have catastrophic side effects that are really hard to adapt to,’” the Smithsonian wrote in 2019.
Even earlier on, the earth was much, much hotter. When our planet was young and still being bullied by wayward miniplanets smashing through the solar system, the heat of these collisions would have kept Earth molten, with temperatures upward of 3,600° Fahrenheit, according to this piece on climate.gov.
That website—climate.gov—is the official climate information site of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, a scientific and regulatory agency within the United States Department of Commerce.
Even if we zoom in on the time scale, as climate.gov did in their article, we can see that the Earth is far from the warmest it has ever been.

Then in the early 1600s (when Able Tasman the Dutch explorer paid a visit as well to NZ, during the hiatus in Little Ice Age currents and wind patterns), there was a 50 year warming period and a second Māori ‘lesser massed immigration’ took place, that brought the Kumera sweet potato (from Peru to Tahiti to Raro to NZ), occurred. The population exploded with the easy access to virtually unlimited carbohydrates (always difficult to access naturally in NZ prior to this),. The Kumera Wars, that lasted for 150 years, was a consequence of that demographic change and huge competition for the power that came from land competition and the sheer numbers of warriors available to go raiding for spoil and slaves. This population geometric increase generated Pa building and fierce cannibalistic and slaving warfare, to produce more territory, slaves to work Kumera production and to support more warriors and power.
By the late 1700s to the first years of the 1800s, Europeans, (American, Australian, British, French and other nationalities, mostly walers and sealers, were establishing trading relations with various Māori tribal groups mostly in the upper North of NZ. By the late 1830s the smaller weaker Māori Iwi were suffering grievously at the hands of Northland Māori, and when the British Crown began negotiating a Treaty, especially with Northern Māori, the smaller Māori Iwi from further South readily sought protection from the British Crown, and lined up to sign any Treaty that would protect them from the terror of the Musket Wars, cannibalisation , raiding, slavery and terror from Northern Māori and now Taranaki Māori. The Māori inter-tribal Musket Wars fighting, the introduction of European diseases, for which Māori had little or no natural immunity, and the return of the cold yet again, before the ravages of the Little Ice Age finally petered out, in the latter half of the mid 1800s caused a massive destruction of Māori populations numbers. The Land Wars and major raiding groups of Māori, mostly of the upper and central North Island and British and also Australian volunteers and allied Māori from usually smaller weaker Iwi further lowered Māori demographic further destabilised NZ.
Given the provable historic, demographic, botanical, zoological, genetic and even tribal verbal historic traditions, Peters’ contention is not too far off the mark. NATO Prepares For Biggest Military Exercise Since Cold War, And Close To Russia

The upcoming Steadfast Defender NATO war drills, set for early 2024, are expected to be the biggest military exercises in Europe since the end of the Cold War.
At a moment the war in Ukraine grows more and more unpredictable, given neither Russia nor the West have shown any signs of backing down, “Nato is preparing its biggest live joint command exercise since the cold war next year, assembling more than 40,000 troops to practice how the alliance would attempt to repel Russian aggression against one of its members.”
Like with the ongoing, smaller ‘Northern Coasts’ war games currently being executed by NATO in Baltic waters, the Steadfast Defender 24 drills will simulate how the military alliance would respond in the face of a hypothetical Russian invasion.
NATO officials were quoted in FT as saying the planned exercises are seen as a key part of “demonstrating to Moscow that the alliance is prepared to fight.”
Steadfast Defender is slated to run in February and March, and is likely to be seen as a provocation by Moscow given it will take place in various locales across Germany, Poland, and the Baltic states.
“It will start in spring next year and is expected to involve between 500 and 700 air combat missions, more than 50 ships, and about 41,000 troops, Nato officials said.”
“It is designed to model potential maneuvers against an enemy modelled on a coalition led by Russia, named Occasus for the purposes of the drill.”
Russia has meanwhile at times “answered” these games by staging large drills in the Black Sea. But dangerously at this moment the western Black Sea region is in a state of war, given Russian warships are launching missiles against Ukraine from there.

President Joe Biden’s proposed energy efficiency standards for water heaters, released July 21 by the Energy Department, not only would raise the cost of water heaters for consumers but take certain products off the market.
One popular tankless natural gas water heater, made by Rinnai in Griffin, Georgia, would have to be discontinued. The public has until Sept. 26 to file comments.
Beginning in 2029, the Energy Department’s proposed regulation would set government standards for all types of water heaters, including gas-fired, oil-fired, electric, and instantaneous tankless water heaters.
The proposed rule would raise standards disproportionately for tankless, gas-fired water heaters to over 91% efficiency. Trouble is, achieving this level of efficiency with noncondensing technology is impossible to do.

As we reported last week, the Biden ATF is proposing to radically re-write federal law (yet again) to broaden the requirement for persons who occasionally sell or transfer firearms to register as federal firearm licensees (FFLs), with all the bureaucracy, expense, and oversight that entails. Biden claims this requirement will move the nation closer to the gun controllers’ Holy Grail of “universal background checks,” as federal law requires FFLs to run background checks whenever they transfer a firearm to an unlicensed person.
In truth, however, ATF has neither the resources nor the intent of handling the massive increase in FFLs the proposed rule predicts would result if its terms were adopted. Instead, the proposal is a transparent attempt to strong-arm Internet service providers, gun shows, technology platforms, and other facilitators to abandon any involvement in private gun sales with vague threats of “administrative action” for non-compliance. Meanwhile, the cartels, gang members, firearm smugglers, and violent sociopaths Congress had in mind when passing the law that supposedly enables the proposal will be entirely unaffected.

A Mexican ufologist might have just made one of the biggest discoveries in human history – he reportedly unveiled two ‘alien bodies’ at a gathering of the Mexican congress.
The special event was held as part of the Mexican Congress’ hearing regarding UFOs.

H2 got a terrible reputation because of the Hindenburg disaster that was not warranted. JUST as long as there wasn’t an already existing ignition source in play. Then more H2 above that 75% ? level just quenches the very ‘active’ burn characteristics. A broken pipe of cylinder of venting H2 is NOT the problem and more than about 75% H2 rich environment, actually quenches any active fire.

Off to Rohan’s birthday in an hour down on the Waitamata harbour near Mareitai Beach. He came out of StarShip Children’s hospital after a week of CF tummy (difficulty moving semi metabolised food through his intestines and getting ‘bound up well and truly! He’s on a strong laxative regime for the next 8 weeks so that he doesn’t end up back in the CF ward. Those StarShip nurses and doctors are fantastic and what they do is a real calling. SytarShip Children’s Hospital is actually a happy place and is always positive, even in the children’s cancer ward! Frankly I don’t understand how the staff stay so ‘up’ and ‘positive’…. but they all do!

He is a really smart little 5 year old who got some goodies as well as his CF when the genes were handed out!

Going back in time 30 years ago when working in big data centers when if you were in there the automatic Halon system had to be set to manual before you entered in there.
Two reasons. The release of Halon, although it won’t kill you, displaces oxygen which without it will make you ded.
Second reasons when the top of the Halon bottles come off to release it they are like ahand grenade explodding

These giant cracks, aka fissures, have been spotted in states including Arizona, Utah, and California.
Groundwater is one of the main sources of freshwater on Earth – it provides almost half of all drinking water, and about 40% of global irrigation.
But humans are pumping groundwater faster than Earth can naturally replenish it.
When too much groundwater gets pumped up from the natural aquifers below the surface, it causes the land to sag and create these cracks, Joseph Cook, who researches Earth fissures at the Arizona Geological Survey, told Insider.
The fissures “are not a naturally occurring thing,” Cook said. “It’s something we’ve caused to form.”

The guy who wrote this story has used half truths for some nefarious reasons. As early as 1962 those advanced nuclear plans were MORE THAN ALREADY being built as we all knew but now deny. The bloody foundations were half completed, for not a single Fast plutonium reactor (NOT A HEAVY WATER REACTOR as the author argues) but TWO 500 MgW Plutonium Fast Breeder Reactors, who’s first priority was the production of fissile material (AKA Plutonium) for weapons manufacture, and a secondary use as a power source for Sydney. The foundations for these TWO Fast Breeders remain in place within the Australian Federal territory on the South NSW coast at Nowra. Again I’m calling the author a liar, as he must have known what he was writing was misleading nonsense. The real question is WHY this author is openly STILL lying. Both Sir Mark Oliphant and Phil Baxter, the Director of Lucas Heights both worked at the highest levels of the Manhattan Project within the British team, as Commonwealth scientists. After the series of British Atomic and Hydrogen bomb experiments, Australia had the complete plans for the physical construction of an Australian nuclear independent force of 300 atomic and 100 thermonuclear warheads and even a partial the ability to deliver them by medium range missile the Blue Steel / Blue Streak and the latest visions of F-111s.
Further there were THREE nuclear reactors, including a research reactor Hi-Far, operating at the Lucas Heights Research facility, NOT one reactor, as the author must have known. The only additional question is why did this author lie by omission, when it was an open secret about what was going on at Lucas Heights.
Further the ongoing research by the Australian National University in Canberra in the late 1980s and 1990s backed up by research ongoing at the Lucas Heights facility by the research reactor, discovered a cheap way to refine fissile uranium U-235 as a thermonuclear trigger for an independent Hydrogen warhead. The logical question was why was this discovery supressed very quickly by the US, who immediately forced Australia to sign a guarantee that this secret methodology was to be kept secret between Australia and the US, squeezing the UK out of the technology. All media in both the US and Australia, were forced to immediately cease reporting on this breakthrough in nuclear technology, by the ANU and Lucas Heights Research Facility.
Why did this author fail to even admit that this technology continues to be held at the highest levels between the US and Australia ALONE? Does DARPA , the Pentagon and Canberra really believe that 30 years is enough time to think that people have actually forgotten about what happened in the 1950s, the 1970s and even the 1990s? Do they… the US, UK and Australian political and defence establishments take their citizens for fools? Really?
This at a time when the US commitments to its nuclear guarantee ‘umbrella’ is about to be tested in Taiwan! If the US turns out to be hollow in its nuclear guarantees to its allies, expect that the likes of Australia will rethink its commitments to nuclear non-proliferation, whether the US wants it or not!
