NCAA Football, Week 1 2023 OPEN

IT’S AN OPEN THREAD!

First things first, Jimmy Buffet died yesterday. There will be many margaritas and cheeseburgers consumed today in his wake. Some of the best times that I ever had at concerts were his shows, his shows and especially the show in the parking lot. The parking lots full of parrot-heads were a show only rivaled by the scene at The Grateful Dead concerts. Except, the parrot-heads had lots of money and the food and drinks were much better. If you’ve ever been there, you know what I’m talking about. Once, a true parrot-head brought his very large sailboat to the parking lot here in PGH. They were dressed as pirates and were handing out food and booze and playing music before the show. RIP, Jimmy. It was your last trip around the sun.

And, on to everyone’s favorite! College Football! 😆

Week one, 2023. There are a ton of games all weekend, none of them really matter as it’s week 1 and these are tune-ups. Let’s start with $1000 fake bucks again and see what happens. Last year, I went broke, erasing the gains from the year before and some from the year before that. It’s a $100 bet when noted, some games will not be wagered. Week 1? Not much

The team to watch this year (and the next few) are the Colorado Buffaloes and their new head coach, Deion “Prime Time” Sanders. Prime Time showed up last year and told those who don’t want to be there to leave. His players now will sit at the front of class, dress and act respectfully, and be real men, not hoods. His words. Colorado football is not a powerhouse and had no big history like ‘Bama or Georgia. If anyone can turn this program around, it’s Prime Time.

Colorado @ 17 TCU 12:00 PM FOX. TCU got blown out in the national championship last year at the hands of the Georgia Bulldogs. The Buffs are 21 point dogs on the road in this big test right out of the gate. I’m not betting on this but will watch.

SUNDAY

5 LSU @ 8 Florida State 7:30 PM. LSU are two point favorites on the road at the ‘Noles. I’ll take LSU to cover.

ENJOY THIS OPEN

First bet since 89. Last for another 35 years or so. I had the $ in my ‘cigar stash’.

There’s a deer in the ‘common’ area on the other side of our fence. The Heathen Beagles are ready to take the walls down.

Red deer were imported a hundred years ago and just boomed. The Germans love wild venison and impiety loads of shot and processed meat. Helicopters with shooter in the right seat and pilot in the left. They shoot up the Southern Alps valleys from bottom to top then go back in and hover on the edge of a cliff slope the shooter jumps out hogties the legs of the deer to a strop under the chopper and then steps back onto the skid . They collect the kill until they have a full load under slung and then vacate the valley. Back in the day chopper pilots would pay off their chopper in 3 months shooting. Then they started using nets and twin net carriers propelled by shotgun shells to live capture. Wrestling and hog-tying a live stag on the edge of a steep slope is no easy task, and then lifting it under-slung is still very profitable. Life expentency can be a wee bit problematic however. There are still about 50 choppers working the Southern Alps even today.

    🙂

    @ eaglesoars:
Much more than disturbing. If a complete system of governance has been corrupted from top to bottom then the denizens have the option. Destroy the governance system’s corruption or learn to bend to the will of BIG government and their corrupt enablers.

Of course the System is perfectly able to isolate the citizenry and pick them off one by one no matter how powerful they are individually. Or the Party machine has to be directly attacked by its members and the covert infiltrators physically excluded, until the Party has been remade. That or sit and wait for 3-4 generations until the corruption totally ruins the system of governance and the citizenry begins from year zero and rebuilds again. It will not be pretty!

Want to know the truth and the whole truth? Back in the days of the KGB the ‘Sword & Shield’ really REALLY hated what they considered treasonous Western Communists. They would smile and pretend in public but when they were just chatting together they would unload ‘big time’ in Western communists!

    Cooking post.

I have some beef, a green pepper, a tomato, an onion and loads of herbs and spices. Plus pasta, now have rice, no mushrooms however but shitake happens…..

Supper will be awesome except for one slight problem.

I can’t find the fucking onion. There was one here yesterday. I looked everywhere for it. It was a yellow one, about the size of a baseball.

How can an old man with early onset Alzheimer’s lose an onion?

I try really hard. Everything is in the place where it is supposed to be.

House keys live where house keys live, phone too, credit cards, coffee cup, in fact everything is always exactly where it should be otherwise it gets lost.

I be fucked if I can remember where I put the onion…..

I have come to the conclusion there was no onion. Looked everywhere, even went through the kitchen trash looking for evidence of a peeled onion I may have used.

    Nothing.

But I have a green pepper. I usually buy an onion when I buy a green pepper because whatever I do with the pepper I also do with an onion.

However, sometimes I do things with an onion that does not require a green pepper. Such as bangers and mash with fried onions and gravy.

Anyway tomorrow I MUST walk to the store in 101F heat to buy an onion so my life becomes in balance once again.

I head to the hospital for my heart cath in a few hours. Check in at 9:30, appointment at 11:30.

I’m betting there’ll be a stent or three. Don’t expect bypasses because there’s no chest pain, I’m just easily winded, and at least some of that’s because I’m so out of shape.

I gentleman from the gas company stopped by to check out some stuff for the generator install. Turns out he used to be a cop in California. Clovis, I think he said. According to him, Clovis is a well run city but the surrounding areas were bad and getting worse. THEN it turned out he couldn’t buy ammo because the background check database hadn’t kept up with a house move. So he sees all this horror encroaching and he can’t defend his family.

    Welcome to Tennessee, Joe.

    Yeah.

We are calling the Cardiologist tomorrow to discuss options.

My wife’s friend is a nurse, so we’re going to have her on the line with us to ask the right questions and translate stuff in the English.

I guess a stent is possible, but there may be higher risks. When we talked to her friend a little bit ago, she thought it might be because there was a chance the artery would rupture or something.

With blockage like this, it almost has to be hereditary. My cholesterol, even both for the first surgery, was only around 150. The last few times I’ve had it checked, it’s been around 100. My mom’s dad was 65 when he died from a heart attack. Her brother was 74, and she was 90. I must’ve gotten all this crap from her side of the family!

In the meantime, if he applies for pro hac vice status in order to appear in a state where he’s not a member of the bar, it will likely be rejected as a result of the pending disciplinary matter in his home state.

It’s just like the Trump prosecutions. None of the charges will ultimately stick. Even if they get convictions on some of them, they’ll be overturned on appeal. But that will take years. The point is to keep him out of office.

But while these legal atrocities are a disgrace and something these prosecutors would be ashamed of if they had any kind of professionalism or honor, this New Rule about how it’s now OK to manufacture charges against political opponents does provide us with an opportunity to jam up a bunch of Democrats. And jam them we must.
    .
    .
Again, I think this is a terrible idea. This is not what these laws were designed to do. But there’s a thing called ‘precedent’, and they’re making it. They’ve established that you can use these laws to screw over your political opponents, and I say screwing is a two-way street.

So, for example, the attorney general of Missouri, or even a red district attorney in some red district in red Missouri, could go out and find a citizen who was forced into a mask and not allowed to make his living and denied the right to go to church – though not to a strip club or liquor store, because the left doesn’t hate those – during the COVID idiocy

Giving back to the community. Subject streaming on demand moves and TV shows.

My Amazon Prime expires on the ninth. I am not renewing it. The free shipping was OK, the grocery delivery was OK until they upped the free delivery to 135.

Amazon Prime video was ok. But there are alternatives for free…..

I have Walmart plus now for deliveries, they sell everything Amazon does and groceries are 35 minimum free delivery and the choice is enormous. Plus my Walmart is a mile away, shit is fresh.

Um and sign up to Walmart Plus and you get years of Paramount Plus for free.

This is about streaming TV shows andmovies so,we got one for ” free”paramount.

Next is CBS, current shows are free the day after they air for about a week. Archived shows you have to pay.

Same with NBC. So Chicago med, fire and PD I am up to date on. Also the CSI and NCIS stuff.

Other free with ads sites are Pluto, Roku and my latest find Tubi.

Roku for me buffers frequently and is annoying. Tubi is great as you can select a data rate/ resolution when Internet is dragging ass.

That was a PSA from The cheapass Possum who hates paying for shit.

We could be producing concrete that’s 30 percent stronger by processing and adding charred coffee grounds to the mix, researchers in Australia have discovered.

ASTM is laughing their asses off.
Organic material decomposes, so the coffee grounds would need to be reduced to ash. They’re touting a stronger carbon additive.

30 percent stronger than what? A mix of 4000 psi is achievable.

Just checked. The 6-tier parking facility that’s under construction in L.A. has concrete shear walls at 6000 psi. That’s compressive strength.
Concrete paving is typically 1500 psf to 2000 psf.

Anyway, that’s all chemistry. ASTM tests and approves the concrete mix designs, structural engineers specify the minimum strength required and don’t care what mix is used. A Deputy Inspector conducts slump tests and collects samples from each concrete batch, takes them to a lab which monitors strength development as the concrete cures.

Nominated by Trump, confirmed by the Senate on a 94-2 vote according to the wiki.

Which means a lot less than people think. For one thing, District Court judges don’t even get individual confirmation hearings. They’re nominated in batches. Unless one of the nominees is a total whackjob of some sort, their confirmation votes are pretty much a rubber stamp. This particular judge formerly served on the staff of the Senate Judiciary Committee, so they probably all knew him.

As for the “nominated by Trump” part, when a vacancy comes up in a Democrat state during a Republican administration (or vice versa), the nominees are put forward by the Senators in that state. Yes, the president signs off on them, but he doesn’t really pick them. He really has no choice, because if he picks someone he wants, the Dems will vote down the nomination.

Being DC, they don’t have any Senators, so I’m not sure who actually came up with this guy, but it was undoubtedly a Democrat. My guess would be Dick Durbin, since he’s the Senate Judiciary Committee chair.

I despise Laura Loomer. She’s a narcissistic lunatic and it’s ALWAYS about her.

But sometimes she has a point. I don’t know if this is one of those times but worth a think.

    https://twitter.com/LauraLoomer/status/1698710813530300432

I have exclusively confirmed that the FBI identified Ukrainian operatives and Neo Nazis who were at the US Capitol on J6 and even questioned J6ers about these Ukrainian spies during interviews with the FBI.

    During their private interview with
    @AmericaShaman
    , the
    @FBI
asked him how he knew a Ukrainian operative who took a photo with him the day of J6 2021. Chansley didn’t know the guy, and FBI confirmed that the Ukrainian Sergai Dybynyn was a Ukrainian spy who is affiliated with the Nazi Azov Battalion.

This means the US Capitol was penetrated by Ukrainian spies and the US Government and FBI have still not arrested these people or made the public aware of foreign penetration. This is an act of war by Ukraine against the United States, and yet the US Government has sent $200 BILLION to Ukraine in the last 2 years.

The CIA is funding a color revolution in the United States via Ukrainian Nazis and American Nazis who are being recruited by the CIA and FBI to fight overseas in the Azov Battalion and then come back to the US to instigate Nazi political movements in a psyop intended to make right wingers look bad.

The reality is, these people are Democrats and Biden supporters and the FBI has been hiding the fact that Ukrainian operatives penetrated the US Capitol on J6 and they have been hiding the fact that they are working with Ukrainian Nazis to instigate violence to subvert the US Government, including actions to impeach President Trump, instigate violence at Charlottesville which was used as Biden’s reason for running for President against Trump, and to stage violence at the Capitol on J6.

Now the FBI and CIA are using Ukrainian Nazis to instigate racial division in the US during an election year so that Neo Nazi marches pop up in red states when voters are deciding who to vote for ahead of 2024.

This is a CIA funded domestic terror operation intended to interfere in the U.S. Election and to make sure Donald Trump is never allowed to be President ever again.

This is treason. And everyone involved needs to go to prison.

This might be the biggest story I have ever uncovered.

Rugby World Cup campaign just days away from kicking off. An interesting set of potential semis and finalists in the mix. Don’t think you can learn much from the drubbing the Springboks (vs All Blacks) handed out a week or so ago. The ‘Boks’ were coming off a hiding dealt out by the ABs in Auckland, and were looking for a get even moment. The ABs were off key definitely, and had had an intense week of training prior to this warm up game and were just ensuring that they didn’t injure serious injury prior to the start of the World Cup. The ‘Boks’ played 15 against the ABs 14 for the whole of the second half after a stupid Barrett late shoulder charge, and at this class of play, 14 never wins against 15!

Surprising I’m NOT touting for the current world champs, the Irish, in the Finals. They have been playing not even close to their potential, and they will need to being playing perfectly on cue to get anywhere near the Final. They may make the semis but there are some serious teams in France just now, like the Fijians who gave the English a lesson in Rugby forward play recently. Nope I have a feeling in my bones that the French will definitely be in the Semis plus the ABs and the ‘Boks, with maybe the Irish (on a good day). The fairy tale would be the ABs against the French in France, but I think it’ll be the ABs and the ‘Olde Foes’ the Springboks in the final, and it could go either way, in an open running game after some ‘down in the trenches’ forward battling in the first half.

You never know however with the French playing ‘at home’ they may just sneak into the Final.

    Can’t wait!

Chemists Develop New Way To Split Water

Hydrogen is often touted as a future energy solution, especially when generated through environmentally friendly methods. Beyond its energy potential, hydrogen plays a crucial role in producing active ingredients and various essential compounds. To generate hydrogen, water (H2O) can be transformed into hydrogen gas (H2) through a sequence of chemical reactions.

However, as water molecules are very stable, splitting them into hydrogen and oxygen presents a big challenge to chemists. For it to succeed at all, the water first has to be activated using a catalyst – then it reacts more easily.

A team of researchers led by Prof. Armido Studer at the Institute of Organic Chemistry at Münster University (Germany) has developed a photocatalytic process in which water, under mild reaction conditions, is activated through triaryl phosphines and not, as in most other processes, through transition metal complexes.

Fact Check: Is This the Hottest Summer on Earth?

    Really?

    Nah …. I think NOT!

Claim: “This summer is on track to be the hottest recorded on Earth.”

CNN’s headline proclaimed: “The world has just experienced the hottest summer on record – by a significant margin.”

Verdict: Misleading. Compared with most of the earth’s history, this summer is unusually cold. The “record” referred to is kept by the United Nations World Meteorological Organization and European climate service Copernicus. It goes back only to 1940.
Researchers for the Smithsonian Institution surveyed the earth’s temperatures over the last 500 million years. As you can see from the chart below, the earth has been much hotter for most of the past 500 million years.

This study was not undertaken by climate change deniers. In fact, the researchers who undertook it wanted to prove how devastating climate change can be to life on earth.
“The two researchers also thought a temperature curve could counter climate contrarians’ claim that global warming is no concern because Earth was much hotter millions of years ago. Wing and Huber wanted to show the reality of ancient temperature extremes—and how rapid shifts between them have led to mass extinctions. Abrupt climate changes, Wing says, ‘have catastrophic side effects that are really hard to adapt to,’” the Smithsonian wrote in 2019.
Even earlier on, the earth was much, much hotter. When our planet was young and still being bullied by wayward miniplanets smashing through the solar system, the heat of these collisions would have kept Earth molten, with temperatures upward of 3,600° Fahrenheit, according to this piece on climate.gov.
That website—climate.gov—is the official climate information site of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, a scientific and regulatory agency within the United States Department of Commerce.
Even if we zoom in on the time scale, as climate.gov did in their article, we can see that the Earth is far from the warmest it has ever been.

    Let’s quote climate.gov again:
Modern human civilization, with its permanent agriculture and settlements, has developed over just the past 10,000 years or so. The period has generally been one of low temperatures and relative global (if not regional) climate stability. Compared to most of Earth’s history, today is unusually cold; we now live in what geologists call an interglacial—a period between glaciations of an ice age.
So what is going on with all these media organizations claiming this is the hottest recorded summer on earth? A lot of misleading work is being done by the phrase “on record” or the word “recorded” in the news stories. The “record” referred to is kept by the United Nations World Meteorological Organization and European climate service Copernicus. It goes back only to 1940.
Apparently, the headline writers thought “Hottest Summer Since 1940” was just not alarming enough.
The records of fossilized corals, leaf shapes, ancient glaciations, and hothouse periods show that global temperatures are nowhere near as warm as they have been in the past. It may be hot out there this summer—perhaps even the hottest in decades—but we are nowhere near the hottest temperatures the earth has experienced.

As usual the Fascist neo-Marxist Left are up to their old tricks.

    They are LYING

    At least they are consistent!

    Bastards!

Total now is under 100, and the LDL is under 50. Sure, a bunch of it is because of the statins, but those numbers haven’t ever been BAD.

Mom and dad were in good health, dad’s side of the family was, too. Mom’s dad died from a heart attack at 61, so I guess it’s his side of the family.

I know, taking better care of myself would probably help.

    Yup.

A game of two halves. At half time the French forwards were being run ragged and were looking tired and I thought ….., Here we go. The ABs will just outstay the French in the second half and the ‘Frogs’ will run out of steam. THEN the ABs change tactics and their whole gam plan seemed to change. Crucify the coach is the only ‘fix’ for this sort of thing.

    The French deserved their win.

A new biography on Elon Musk claims that Musk “secretly ordered his engineers to turn off his company’s Starlink satellite communications network near the Crimean coast last year to disrupt a Ukrainian sneak attack on the Russian naval fleet,” though Musk himself said he actually declined a request to turn additional satellites on.

Elon Musk secretly ordered his engineers to turn off his company’s Starlink satellite communications network near the Crimean coast last year to disrupt a Ukrainian sneak attack on the Russian naval fleet, according to an excerpt adapted from Walter Isaacson’s new biography of the eccentric billionaire titled “Elon Musk.”

As Ukrainian submarine drones strapped with explosives approached the Russian fleet, they “lost connectivity and washed ashore harmlessly,” Isaacson writes.

Musk’s decision, which left Ukrainian officials begging him to turn the satellites back on, was driven by an acute fear that Russia would respond to a Ukrainian attack on Crimea with nuclear weapons, a fear driven home by Musk’s conversations with senior Russian officials, according to Isaacson, whose new book is set to be released by Simon & Schuster on September 12.

Musk’s concerns over a “mini-Pearl Harbor” as he put it, did not come to pass in Crimea. But the episode reveals the unique position Musk found himself in as the war in Ukraine unfolded. Whether intended or not, he had become a power broker US officials couldn’t ignore.

The new book from Isaacson, the author of acclaimed biographies of Steve Jobs and Albert Einstein, provides fresh insights into Musk and how his existential dread of sparking a wider war drove him to spurn Ukrainian requests for Starlink systems they could use to attack the Russians.

After Russia disrupted Ukraine’s communications systems just before its full-scale invasion in February 2022, Musk agreed to provide Ukraine with millions of dollars of SpaceX-made Starlink satellite terminals, which became crucial to Ukraine’s military operations. Even as cellular phone and internet networks had been destroyed, the Starlink terminals allowed Ukraine to fight and stay connected.

But once Ukraine began to use Starlink terminals for offensive attacks against Russia, Musk started to second-guess that decision.

“How am I in this war?” Musk asks Isaacson. “Starlink was not meant to be involved in wars. It was so people can watch Netflix and chill and get online for school and do good peaceful things, not drone strikes.”

Musk was soon on the phone with President Joe Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, the chairman of the joint chiefs, Gen. Mark Milley, and the Russian ambassador to the US to address anxieties from Washington, DC, to Moscow, writes Isaacson.

Meanwhile, Mykhailo Fedorov, a deputy prime minister of Ukraine, was pleading with Musk to restore connectivity for the submarine drones by telling Musk about their capabilities in a text message, according to Isaacson. “I just want you—the person who is changing the world through technology—to know this,” Fedorov told Musk.

Musk, the CEO of electric carmaker Tesla and private space exploration firm SpaceX, replied that he was impressed with the design of the submarine drones but that he wouldn’t turn satellite coverage back on for Crimea because Ukraine “is now going too far and inviting strategic defeat,” according to Isaacson.

“Both sides should agree to a truce,” Musk said. “Every day that passes, more Ukrainian and Russian youth die to gain and lose small pieces of land, with borders barely changing. This is not worth their lives.”

“There was an emergency request from government authorities to activate Starlink all the way to Sevastopol,” he said in a follow-up tweet. “The obvious intent being to sink most of the Russian fleet at anchor. If I had agreed to their request, then SpaceX would be explicitly complicit in a major act of war and conflict escalation.”

Thank god that there was an adult in the room when the likes of Defence Secretary and Chief of Staff were obviously more focused in Trans rights and gender bending toilets. How far the US forces think tank gurus have degenerated. Alas one of them recently posted to the War College as a senior instructor, is my ‘godson’.

I want to make sure that you understand what is about to happen so you can prepare.

Biden canceled all of the Alaska drilling on Federal land. At the same time he stopped allowing liquid natural gas from being transported by train.

That leaves the only mode of transportation by trucking. About 2 months ago the largest trucking company went out of business:

Yellow, one of the nation’s largest freight and trucking companies, announced it is shutting down, leading to one of the largest mass layoffs in recent history and potential shipping cost increases. The company is in bankruptcy just three years after getting a $700 million loan from taxpayers.

So that is going to create a massive supply chain issue of liquid natural gas which means your utility bills as well as the price of gas is going to skyrocket.

Biden used 300 million gallons of gas from our reserves to keep the gas prices artificially low. They can’t do that anymore. They have set us up in every way to purposely make gas prices and utility prices skyrocket so fill all of your gas cans, buy propane ect NOW while you can still afford it.

If you refuse to tell me that I’m wrong I’d guess that Biden, even in his best day, realises that his stay here is drawing to an end and he wants us all to join him in his own personal Viking end

Today at work I met the owner. Today in Knoxville was ‘game day’ so a lot of customers came in wearing Tennessee Vol orange [note to self: go to the sports store and get some shirts]. HIS dog, a boxer named Pearl, spent the day with us and near closing his wife came in to hang out with their 2 yr old grandson.

They have 600 acres in the area, the owner hates the local gov’t [ a different county] and was very glad to hear we moved to TN to protect our 2A rights. NM has to get its act together. But it’s been a ‘failed state’ for a long time. Albuquerque has had the most corrupt police force for years, worse than New Orleans, which is saying a lot.

In other news – here’s my latest Harry and Meghan update. Rumor has it that she demanded helicopter transport from the airport to the hotel, helicopter transport from the hotel to the games and back, that her suite be redecorated in shades of ‘camel, sand, beige and white’ and that when she was introduced the ‘HRH’ title be used.

This comes from Lady C, who has British friends who have recently partied on the Continent with socially connected Germans.

Everybody told Meghan to piss up a rope. But in a recent vomitous from the dork she married, he has ‘warned’ everyone that she will be rooting for the Nigerians.

Of course she will. She recently declared herself 43% Nigerian.

Yeah, she’s 100% skank. There are videos of her dancing at a recent Beyonce concert. One observer said she dances like a spastic seal.

I think I’ll do an experiment. One cycle of using the house tap water (which is filtered) and another using purified water I can get from the store.

As ancient fans of beer, the Egyptians also prioritized safe drinking water. In Khem, people used a gravity filter to purify muddy water drawn from the Nile with alum. The coagulating effect of aluminum sulfate, Al2(SO4)3, causes suspended particles to clump. This speeds up filtration, making more water available. It is the first known chemical water treatment.

    Friend: So what..

    Friend: I don’t give a shit.

Me: Aren’t you going to ask me who?

    Friend: Why?

Me: You were supposed to ask me who then you would have sounded like an owl.

    Friend: Why?

Me: Because who sounds like an owl. It is funny….

Clean, quiet, zero emissions at point of use.

Why the silly cartoonish USPS mail trucks are not lead acid battery powered is beyond my comprehension.

They should have been electric since the 40s.Low daily mileage. Speed is not an issue. AND recharged at night and batteries recyclable. Lithium battery recycling is not something that is currently done much.

Urban areas, low daily mileage. Not needed 24hrs a day so recharge time not an issue. Perfect for all electric.

However I am not stupid. In rural areas such as Iowa then electric not an option. Mileage per day is very much more. But only for the Iowa busses that serve the rural areas. The in town buses electric.

The battery in your car is a lead acid type. They’re heavy and cheap, but don’t last more than a few years. They also can’t be discharged below half their capacity without damaging them, which means that you need twice as many batteries as your anticipated usage.

LiFePO4 batteries are about 1/3 of the weight, can be discharged to nearly zero without damage (and typically have a built-in safeguard to protect them), and usually still have 80% or more of their original capacity after 10 years of constant use. They’re expensive, don’t charge well below freezing, and are difficult to recycle.

I have 4 of them in my travel trailer, which gives me a total of 420 amp hours. About 5.7 kwh. Each is the size of a regular car battery, but only weighs 21 pounds. They run about $800 apiece.

What happens when your electric car goes dead 50 miles from the nearest charger? At least when you run out of gas, you can put some gas in a can and come back and get your car. When your electric car goes dead, it has to be towed.

And the reason why they cost $800 bucks each is the inbuilt costs of trying to get rid of them (laughingly called recycling) when they die.Let’s put it this way mate. When the guy doing his sums it was a lovely day and he’d just had a wonderful ‘tiffin’ with his good lady wife …. oh and the birds were singing. Now back in the real world that $800 is looking rather optimistic now especially when everyone is trying to get rid of old batteries at the same time and NOBODY wants a bar of the battery recycling industry. Don’t BS me with economies of scale either! When NOBODY wants this massive toxic problem the price goes UP! Chinese cities have up to 40% electric vehicles and 100 car companies pumping out electric vehicles …. all I might comment are ACTUALLY powered by COAL fired power stations being produced at 1.4 new station opened a week!

Sure China will offer to take and ‘recycle’ batteries initially but that will soon turn to ‘custard’ as the Chinese have already turned their country into a toxic dump. They will try it on to just dump this toxic mess into Africa where they assume that African sub-humans ( Han definitions of Africans in general) will be too stupid or greedy to care. This will happen at first but when Africans begin to produce three nose people they will come looking to kill Asians in general instead of Han Chinese. The Chinese grab for the vehicle market will end up as it always does in totalitarian regimes breaking their economies , poisoning their people and ruining their societies. Go look at Russia and compare it to the USSR. HALF the population with the demographic circling the drain-hole, but with no better idea except attacking their neighbours with nukes and pissing off the world.

Yup mate, you’re right on the money.

The US military are out of gas to run a serious war with any reasonable chance of success. THAT hasn’t actually happened ever over the past 75 years. Sure the US military have won a whole bunch of baby wars but the subsequent ‘peace’ hasn’t stuck. Great for generating marketing of weapons to other folks who wear the fallout from temporary peace.

This time the US war companies will try a new tack and use the current tech node that changes the way wars are fought, to put yet another band-aid ‘fix’ over yet another self inflicted injury, but will of course make mucho $$$$$ for the Lockheed Martins and Boeings and Newport News of the world… again! So who cares as it is now some other poor schmuck’s son or daughter doing the bleeding?

When will the rest of the world finally come to the conclusion that you pay a serious price for ‘sheltering’; under a ‘US nuke umbrella’ when reality yells at you, that only your ‘independent nuke threat’ is the only actual guarantee of strategic national security. Hate to be a wet blanket but that too predicts massive proliferation and the reality that some crazy will eventually unleash Armageddon on the rest of the world for some really dumb reason!

Just make some more liquid POL as fast as you guys possibly can, store it so you can use it quickly and stop indulging in silly political games that have actual serious consequences for the rest of us as well as the USA. Do that and we’ll keep pretending that the US will swap NYC or LA for Sydney or Taipei in a nuke exchange with a rapidly degenerating and increasingly unstable China.

… and assuming the 900 year historical estimate initially between the 1100s and 1300s, Māori numbers were microscopically small and almost entirely confined to the warmer parts of the North Island, in isolated family groups. This was also of course after the Norman invasion of Britain and nobody from any historic demographic would ever suggest that the Normans were indigenous inhabitants of Britain. Hell not even the Saxons, Romans, or even the Celts can claim that distinction!

Local Pacific warfare mainly from the Samoans attacking their neighbours (read the Tongans here) caused a relatively large migration of Māori out of Rarotonga, over a number of decades and especially after a Samoan attack on Tonga that overflowed to Rarotonga, around the 1350s forced massed emigration of Māori, to Northland and Bay of Plenty / Rotorua ( The Age of the Great Canoe Migrations). THEN the ‘Little Cold Age’ happened and Māori were ‘stranded’ in NZ, as the currents and winds changed, and getting to NZ was very difficult for hundreds of years. This is when the large flightless birds were predated by Māori to extinction within 100 years of the major Age of the Migration Canoes landings. It’s not as if there is a lack of hard proof of this timescale as it is easily available.

Then in the early 1600s (when Able Tasman the Dutch explorer paid a visit as well to NZ, during the hiatus in Little Ice Age currents and wind patterns), there was a 50 year warming period and a second Māori ‘lesser massed immigration’ took place, that brought the Kumera sweet potato (from Peru to Tahiti to Raro to NZ), occurred. The population exploded with the easy access to virtually unlimited carbohydrates (always difficult to access naturally in NZ prior to this),. The Kumera Wars, that lasted for 150 years, was a consequence of that demographic change and huge competition for the power that came from land competition and the sheer numbers of warriors available to go raiding for spoil and slaves. This population geometric increase generated Pa building and fierce cannibalistic and slaving warfare, to produce more territory, slaves to work Kumera production and to support more warriors and power.

By the late 1700s to the first years of the 1800s, Europeans, (American, Australian, British, French and other nationalities, mostly walers and sealers, were establishing trading relations with various Māori tribal groups mostly in the upper North of NZ. With them came Muskets powder and shot. The ‘Kumera Wars’ of the very early 1800s morphed into the 30 years long ‘Musket Wars’, and those Māori mainly from Northland, swept all before them and a terrible Māori bloodletting ensued, that even extended to (Taranaki Māori buying 200 muskets from a Sydney merchant, hiring a 700 ton square rigged ship and sailing 200 Taranaki Māori to the Chatham Islands a couple of thousand Km to the East There they threw themselves at the feet of the peaceful Maoriori, asking for succour. Only weeks later the Taranaki Māori warriors butchered the local males, eating them, and enslaving the local Maoriori women and children and transporting them to Taranaki to work the Taranaki Kumera plots.)

By the late 1830s the smaller weaker Māori Iwi were suffering grievously at the hands of Northland Māori, and when the British Crown began negotiating a Treaty, especially with Northern Māori, the smaller Māori Iwi from further South readily sought protection from the British Crown, and lined up to sign any Treaty that would protect them from the terror of the Musket Wars, cannibalisation , raiding, slavery and terror from Northern Māori and now Taranaki Māori. The Māori inter-tribal Musket Wars fighting, the introduction of European diseases, for which Māori had little or no natural immunity, and the return of the cold yet again, before the ravages of the Little Ice Age finally petered out, in the latter half of the mid 1800s caused a massive destruction of Māori populations numbers. The Land Wars and major raiding groups of Māori, mostly of the upper and central North Island and British and also Australian volunteers and allied Māori from usually smaller weaker Iwi further lowered Māori demographic further destabilised NZ.

Given the provable historic, demographic, botanical, zoological, genetic and even tribal verbal historic traditions, Peters’ contention is not too far off the mark. NOT that modern Kiwis will ever hear or read the actual provable histories of these islands from any modern, ideologically biased, bureaucracies of the neo-Marxist variety, any time soon! As Bernard opines, Winston Peters the leader of the NZ First Party, being from the most populous, aggressive and warlike Māori Iwi, the Northland Ngapuhi, he can get away with calling a Spade a Spade!,

I’m afraid that NZ has a very overt clique of activist wedge players who pop up everywhere especially in the very leftwing Media.

ESPECIALLY in Maori Language Week when they take particular glee at shoving it down our collective throats. Of course it has just the opposite effect and just makes folks get more than pissed off, especially when Maori Week seems to be becoming Maori Language MONTH!

Alas ‘the cultural appropriation joke’ seems beyond these Marxists’ ken as Maori is a NON-WRITTEN LANGUAGE and they need to use the Latin alphabet to write Maori!

Oh and if the activist Maori speakers, of non-Maori heritage, all stopped speaking Maori, then te Rio Maori would finally die out on one generation. Now THAT would be a crying shame .

Ramming a language down one’s throat is a really REALLY bad way of inculcating a language into one. At school the teachers attempted to beat Latin and French with a cane into my head. It totally failed!

    Oh I forgot.

    English
    Maori and
    NZ sign language

are all official languages of NZ

There are FOUR TIMES more Mandarin speakers living in NZ than there are Maori speakers!

Maori are 15% of Kiwis (and there are no more than 1,000 full blood Maori left and they mostly live on the East coast around Gisbourne. Most Maori are between 1/4 to 1/32nd Maori or less, and more non-Maori than Maori speak Maori, and those non-Maori Maori speakers are of the activist class! About 2 % of Kiwis speak a little Maori with even a modicum of fluency.

    Getting the picture?

If left to individuals Maori will become an artefact of NZ with many Maori words incorporated into Kiwi English.
If they keep ramming Maori down everyone’s throats then will surely die out and that would be a real shame!

NATO Prepares For Biggest Military Exercise Since Cold War, And Close To Russia
    by Zero Hedge
The upcoming Steadfast Defender NATO war drills, set for early 2024, are expected to be the biggest military exercises in Europe since the end of the Cold War.

At a moment the war in Ukraine grows more and more unpredictable, given neither Russia nor the West have shown any signs of backing down, “Nato is preparing its biggest live joint command exercise since the cold war next year, assembling more than 40,000 troops to practice how the alliance would attempt to repel Russian aggression against one of its members.”

Like with the ongoing, smaller ‘Northern Coasts’ war games currently being executed by NATO in Baltic waters, the Steadfast Defender 24 drills will simulate how the military alliance would respond in the face of a hypothetical Russian invasion.

NATO officials were quoted in FT as saying the planned exercises are seen as a key part of “demonstrating to Moscow that the alliance is prepared to fight.”

Steadfast Defender is slated to run in February and March, and is likely to be seen as a provocation by Moscow given it will take place in various locales across Germany, Poland, and the Baltic states.

“It will start in spring next year and is expected to involve between 500 and 700 air combat missions, more than 50 ships, and about 41,000 troops, Nato officials said.”

“It is designed to model potential maneuvers against an enemy modelled on a coalition led by Russia, named Occasus for the purposes of the drill.”

Russia has meanwhile at times “answered” these games by staging large drills in the Black Sea. But dangerously at this moment the western Black Sea region is in a state of war, given Russian warships are launching missiles against Ukraine from there.

That’s why I always get sick of hearing about the “rights” of indigenous people. Everyone came from somewhere else. And never before have people given “reparations” to the conquered.

Thermal ‘runaway’ makes quenching Li battery fires very difficult. If you get in early with a specific extinguisher you have a chance or preventing uncontrollable thermal run-away. https://firecs.co.uk/lith-ex-battery-fire-extinguishers/

Otherwise you need to cool the fire with between 6,000-20,000 gallons of water and just let the run-away do its thing until total cell energy has been exhausted. Not ideal but thermal runaway is a bitch to stop and all you can do is dissipate the thermal buildup as new banks of cells dissipate their total energy and just keep everything else around the fire as cool as possible. You have to get in very fast with the correct extinguisher however and if the thermal run-away gets established then just cool everything with LOTS of spray and water and just let the fire run its course, until the total cell energy has dissipated.

Juuuusst made it. Had the regular water heater replaced with tankless last year

President Joe Biden’s proposed energy efficiency standards for water heaters, released July 21 by the Energy Department, not only would raise the cost of water heaters for consumers but take certain products off the market.

One popular tankless natural gas water heater, made by Rinnai in Griffin, Georgia, would have to be discontinued. The public has until Sept. 26 to file comments.

Beginning in 2029, the Energy Department’s proposed regulation would set government standards for all types of water heaters, including gas-fired, oil-fired, electric, and instantaneous tankless water heaters.

The proposed rule would raise standards disproportionately for tankless, gas-fired water heaters to over 91% efficiency. Trouble is, achieving this level of efficiency with noncondensing technology is impossible to do.

Comment Period Open on Biden’s Illegal Background Check Rulemaking

As we reported last week, the Biden ATF is proposing to radically re-write federal law (yet again) to broaden the requirement for persons who occasionally sell or transfer firearms to register as federal firearm licensees (FFLs), with all the bureaucracy, expense, and oversight that entails. Biden claims this requirement will move the nation closer to the gun controllers’ Holy Grail of “universal background checks,” as federal law requires FFLs to run background checks whenever they transfer a firearm to an unlicensed person.

In truth, however, ATF has neither the resources nor the intent of handling the massive increase in FFLs the proposed rule predicts would result if its terms were adopted. Instead, the proposal is a transparent attempt to strong-arm Internet service providers, gun shows, technology platforms, and other facilitators to abandon any involvement in private gun sales with vague threats of “administrative action” for non-compliance. Meanwhile, the cartels, gang members, firearm smugglers, and violent sociopaths Congress had in mind when passing the law that supposedly enables the proposal will be entirely unaffected.

VIDEO: CNN Hammers New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, Reads Constitution to Her

CNN’s Poppy Harlow interviewed New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) on Tuesday and cornered her, reading the New Mexico Constitution to her on-air and asking if her ban on concealed carry violates the Constitution.

Harlow read from Article II, Section 6, of New Mexico’s Constitution, saying, “No law shall abridge the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms for security and defense…No municipality or county shall regulate, in any way, an incident of the right to keep and bear arms.”

She then asked Grisham, “Are you not in violation of both the U.S. Constitution and your state’s Constitution?”

Grisham responded, “I don’t believe that we are.”

She then claimed that “if that narrow reading of the constitution” were followed, New Mexico “wouldn’t have universal background checks…wouldn’t have a waiting period…wouldn’t have a red flag law…we wouldn’t have prohibitions for straw purchases, none of those would have been deemed constitutional, and today, all of them are.”

Harlow shot back, noting that all the gun controls mentioned by Grisham were adopted prior to the Supreme Court of the United States’ (SCOTUS) decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen (2022), which ruled against New York’s proper cause requirement for concealed carry permit issuance.

She might want to read up on the state’s laws. NM doesn’t have “universal background checks.” We also don’t have waiting periods. Straw purchases are already illegal under federal law, and have been for a long time. As for “red flag” laws, those are likely to be deemed unconstitutional in the near future.

Remains of ‘non-human’ beings presented in Mexico

A Mexican ufologist might have just made one of the biggest discoveries in human history – he reportedly unveiled two ‘alien bodies’ at a gathering of the Mexican congress.

The special event was held as part of the Mexican Congress’ hearing regarding UFOs.

Jaime Maussan, a Mexican journalist and ufologist, unveiled the two ‘alien bodies’ in front of the Congress, claiming that carbon dating had put their age as ‘at least 1,000 years’.

The event was co-hosted by other Mexican scientists.

In his address to the Congress, Maussan said these remains were found in Cusco, Peru.

He also claimed that scientists at the Autonomous National University of Mexico (UNAM), had analysed DNA evidence using radiocarbon dating.

“These specimens are not part of our terrestrial evolution… These aren’t beings that were found after a UFO wreckage. They were found in diatom (algae) mines, and were later fossilised”, Maussan told attendees.

The IRS suspected a fishing boat owner wasn’t paying proper wages to his deckhand and sent an agent to investigate him.

IRS AUDITOR: “I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them.”

BOAT OWNER: “Well, there’s Clarence, my deck hand, he’s been with me for 3 years. I pay him $1,000 a week plus free room and board.

Then there’s the mentally challenged guy. He works about 18 hours every day and does about 90% of the work around here. He makes about $10 per week, pays his own room and board, and I buy him a bottle of Bacardi rum and a dozen beers every Saturday night so he can cope with life. He also gets to sleep with my wife occasionally.”

IRS AUDITOR: “That’s The guy I’m here here to talk to- The mentally challenged one.”

BOAT OWNER: “That would be me. What would you like to know?”

I hate to break it to ya Eagles but the BBC is correct. Not the way the BBC spread it out. That’s a lie, HOWEVER, in fact 10,000 year old ‘Britons WERE Blackish’ but they had the bluish of blue eyes, and curly black hair. They were NOT African blacks, however although they like everyone else originated from Africa. The original blue eyed ‘blackish’ Briton came from the Cheddar Gorge and has been VERY thoroughly researched by the University of Bristol. There is a model that is genetically accurate at the University of Bristol. Over the next 6,000 years the density of melanin decreased due to climactic reasons (mostly the need for more Vitamin D that far North) and the original Britons became significantly paler. My daughter did her honours undergraduate degree at Bristol University and worked on projects like the palio-archaeology of the ‘Cheddah Man’, Wood Henge (just up the river) from Stone Henge, and Roman Britain, from the masses of Roman villas in and around, Bristol, Bath and SW Britain.

I’ll bet they’re wishing they had a hydrogen powered car…..those hydrogen tanks would never explode if they were pierced!

I STILL wonder why AmericanCONTINUE to believe that hydrogen tanks being pierced have the same effect as the Hindenburg Zeppelin explosion. Something about an incorrect fact that seeped into the collective US conscienceness.

It wasn’t the fault of the bags of H2 inside the Hindenburg Airship that burned. The H2 immediately escaped vertically and dissipated in outer space harmlessly. It was the aluminium doped rubber bags that held the H2 gas that were explosively dangerous and burned so explosively downing the Hindenburg. Airship. AS the ‘doped’ rubber bags burned all of the H2 escaped because it was so light that it escaped the Earth’s gravitational field totally and entered space. H2 NEEDS O2 to burn and there was not enough O2 available as it was ‘otherwise being used up burning explosively ‘doped’ rubber bags that had been struck by Static electricity, that ignited the ‘aluminium dope’. The H2 escaped, and brought down the airship because the lift was destroyed but got the blame for the explosively burning accident.

H2 was ‘innocent’! All the H2 did was ESCAPE to space!

Somewhere I read about the insidious nature of hydrogen fires, and I think it was in the context of leaking tanks aboard naval ships. The fire is deadly, but radiates neither heat nor light, and will turn you into ash if you accidentally walk through the flame. If a leak was detected and there was a possibility of ignition, damage control personnel would check the area with a broom held out in front of them. If the broom suddenly caught fire that’s where the leak was.

H2 does burn with a flame so pale it’s often not seen. It is however a FUEL and needs O2 to both ignite and burn. A simple burst cylinder will immediately vent H2 into the air where there is plenty of O2 but because of the extreme ly low density H2 immediately vents vertically and escapes the planet. H2 even vents through the pores of metal cylinders and especially when pressurised. It’s extremely difficult to store or pipe H2 because of its extreme ability to penetrate almost all solid containment vessels and eventually escape, not only the vessel but indeed the planet itself. Unless bound to another element within a molecule, hydrogen can’t easily be stored on Earth. The Hindenburg explosion and fire was due to the highly aluminium ‘dope’ spread on the rubber bladders to help to temporarily contain H2 and slow down its leakage through the bladder walls. Static caused a flashover during mooring and the bladders burned and exploded. Some H2 was also burned by the flames but the vast volume of H2 escaped vertically before it had the chance to use the available O2 in the air to support combustion. The initial explosion and fire was due almost entirely by the ‘dope’ which was lethally prone to burning and in sufficient volume explode …. which indeed it did. The H2 however got the rap but was almost entirely lost to space as soon as the burning bladders were punctured.

You will notice that the Hindenburg burned with a bright yellow flame NOT almost invisible burning H2. It was too busy venting vertically at the time.

    🙂

H2 has the lowest density and unless contained in a secondary container… like the inside of a ship it will immediately vert vertically, find an egress and vent overboard. Look for H2 in any closed vessel and it’ll be up at the ceiling trying to escape. Therefore punctured containment vessels need only a way for H2 to escape vertically and the H2 will disappear immediately unburned.

The pair met up Friday for a Trump campaign rally in Rapid City, South Dakota, but were careful to have no public interaction – despite being close for years

The two were first suspected of being romantically involved in 2021, but Noem scornfully dismissed the story as ‘total garbage and a disgusting lie’ at the time

The accident I was thinking of happened in 2019.

A major uncontrolled release of high-pressure hydrogen occurred at the Air Products
hydrogen trailer transfill facility in Santa Clara, California on June 1, 2019 during a gaseous hydrogen fill of a modular multi-cylinder trailer. Hydrogen was accidentally released from an open pipe as a result of an unauthorized attempt to repair a leaking valve and a subsequent miscommunication between the two drivers filling the trailer. A hydrogen-air mixture explosion occurred within seconds of the release, followed by a high-pressure gas jet fire. The fire and explosion caused pipe damage and activation of hydrogen cylinder temperature-pressure relief devices, adding additional hydrogen fuel to the incident, and eventually spreading to other materials on adjacent vehicles. Approximately 250 kg of hydrogen was released during this event. Air Products’ personnel initiated a shutdown and isolation of other trailers and tanks to prevent further releases.

Hydrogen as a fuel in the presence of O2 burns from memory around the 2,000 C or just below ~ something like 1,950C. Propane too burns pretty hot as well, but again from memory Propane C3H8 reaches ignition at something like 28%before it reaches detonation point. H2 has a much wider detonation spread from very low around 4 or 5% up to about around 75% before the fuel reaches a ‘Rich Cut’ point and self quenches. These scenarios assume an existing ignition already burning rather than a puncture. H2 doesn’t automatically explode and burn unless there is a flame already existing. Punctures of vessels carrying H2 with no secondary containment tend to vent VERY fast to space. A very fast venting easily reaches self quenching of about 75% H2+ O2 and switches off the flame front.

The reason that a H2 + O2 fire burns almost clear ( with a very pale blue hue is that there is NO CARBON involved and no yellow glowing carbon particles glowing with a yellow hue. The burn ‘ash’ is just water or should I say steam!)

It was a looong time ago, back in my days at the Sydney University Aeronautical Engineering Department, when we were playing with ‘backwards’ fire fronts, (AKA firing different fuels into 100% O2 rich environments, rather than the other way around) when we were discovering fuel characteristics for pure science. H2 got a terrible reputation because of the Hindenburg disaster that was not warranted. JUST as long as there wasn’t an already existing ignition source in play. Then more H2 above that 75% ? level just quenches the very ‘active’ burn characteristics. A broken pipe of cylinder of venting H2 is NOT the problem and more than about 75% H2 rich environment, actually quenches any active fire.

23,000-Year-Old Human Footprints Found in New Mexico

“For decades, archaeologists have debated when people first arrived in the Americas,” said Holliday, a professor in the UArizona School of Anthropology and Department of Geosciences. “Few archaeologists see reliable evidence for sites older than about 16,000 years. Some think the arrival was later, no more than 13,000 years ago by makers of artifacts called Clovis points. The White Sands tracks provide a much earlier date. There are multiple layers of well-dated human tracks in streambeds where water flowed into an ancient lake. This was 10,000 years before Clovis people.

    @ Bunk Five Hawks X:
Going back in time 30 years ago when working in big data centers when if you were in there the automatic Halon system had to be set to manual before you entered in there.

Two reasons. The release of Halon, although it won’t kill you, displaces oxygen which without it will make you ded.

Second reasons when the top of the Halon bottles come off to release it they are like ahand grenade explodding

I don’t use powder as part of my make up routine and I’ve never used baby powder. But if any of you gentlemen know women who do, they need to be aware of this

But what danger? How can make-up, worn by millions of people every day with no ill effects, be hazardous? Well, because of the talc that’s in much of it.

Talc is a naturally-occurring soft clay mineral composed of magnesium, silicon and oxygen. It is mined around the world, the largest producers being China, Brazil, France, India and the U.S.

The mined talc, which can be green, white or grey, is ground into a fine powder valued for its absorbent, deodorant and anti-chafing properties.

The problem is that talc is often found in the same geological locations as asbestos, which is also mined as a naturally-occurring fibrous mineral. And sometimes the talc is contaminated by the asbestos.

This is what led to that YUGE Johnson & Johnson baby powder settlement.

    horrendous video

Two Las Vegas scholars steal a car then commit a hit and run on an unsuspecting car before hitting and killing a random man on a bicycle.

They murdered that man for laughs.

    Have you had enough yet?

Yeah. I’ve seen that happen and it was a mess. It was an accidental release, there was no fire, but we were down for 24 hrs

And an indication of how fucking stupid the safety people were at the place I worked the emergency breathing apparatus that could be used incase of a Halon discharge was located on the wall.

Ok, bitch bite back time. My favorite whack job, Marjorie Taylor Green got booted from the Freedom Caucus for calling Lauren Boebert a bitch on the floor of the House. Granted, that was a DO NOT GO THERE mistake, but the punishment didn’t fit the crime. Also, full disclosure – I think her husband is divorcing her for adultery. Don’t care about that, I don’t vote for saints, just people who can get done what I want done.

Well, yesterday Boebert and her companion got booted from a play in Colorado for being disruptive (the original story said she was vaping).

Uh, not so fast, Sparky……….check out the video

    It wasn’t just the vaping.

The REAL reason Lauren Boebert was kicked out? She was groping her date’s genitals while he groped her breast.

In a theater. At a show where kids were allowed.

    *sigh*

The United States has been pumping so much groundwater that the ground is beginning to split open across southwestern parts of the country for miles on end.

These giant cracks, aka fissures, have been spotted in states including Arizona, Utah, and California.

Groundwater is one of the main sources of freshwater on Earth – it provides almost half of all drinking water, and about 40% of global irrigation.

But humans are pumping groundwater faster than Earth can naturally replenish it.

When too much groundwater gets pumped up from the natural aquifers below the surface, it causes the land to sag and create these cracks, Joseph Cook, who researches Earth fissures at the Arizona Geological Survey, told Insider.

The fissures “are not a naturally occurring thing,” Cook said. “It’s something we’ve caused to form.”

    @ coldwarrior:

Australia’s independent nuclear deterrent in the age of Xi’s belligerence and Taiwan

    https://www.swcs.com.au/AustraliaNuclearAmbitions.htm

The guy who wrote this story has used half truths for some nefarious reasons. As early as 1962 those advanced nuclear plans were MORE THAN ALREADY being built as we all knew but now deny. The bloody foundations were half completed, for not a single Fast plutonium reactor (NOT A HEAVY WATER REACTOR as the author argues) but TWO 500 MgW Plutonium Fast Breeder Reactors, who’s first priority was the production of fissile material (AKA Plutonium) for weapons manufacture, and a secondary use as a power source for Sydney. The foundations for these TWO Fast Breeders remain in place within the Australian Federal territory on the South NSW coast at Nowra. Again I’m calling the author a liar, as he must have known what he was writing was misleading nonsense. The real question is WHY this author is openly STILL lying. Both Sir Mark Oliphant and Phil Baxter, the Director of Lucas Heights both worked at the highest levels of the Manhattan Project within the British team, as Commonwealth scientists. After the series of British Atomic and Hydrogen bomb experiments, Australia had the complete plans for the physical construction of an Australian nuclear independent force of 300 atomic and 100 thermonuclear warheads and even a partial the ability to deliver them by medium range missile the Blue Steel / Blue Streak and the latest visions of F-111s.

Further there were THREE nuclear reactors, including a research reactor Hi-Far, operating at the Lucas Heights Research facility, NOT one reactor, as the author must have known. The only additional question is why did this author lie by omission, when it was an open secret about what was going on at Lucas Heights.

Further the ongoing research by the Australian National University in Canberra in the late 1980s and 1990s backed up by research ongoing at the Lucas Heights facility by the research reactor, discovered a cheap way to refine fissile uranium U-235 as a thermonuclear trigger for an independent Hydrogen warhead. The logical question was why was this discovery supressed very quickly by the US, who immediately forced Australia to sign a guarantee that this secret methodology was to be kept secret between Australia and the US, squeezing the UK out of the technology. All media in both the US and Australia, were forced to immediately cease reporting on this breakthrough in nuclear technology, by the ANU and Lucas Heights Research Facility.

Why did this author fail to even admit that this technology continues to be held at the highest levels between the US and Australia ALONE? Does DARPA , the Pentagon and Canberra really believe that 30 years is enough time to think that people have actually forgotten about what happened in the 1950s, the 1970s and even the 1990s? Do they… the US, UK and Australian political and defence establishments take their citizens for fools? Really?

This at a time when the US commitments to its nuclear guarantee ‘umbrella’ is about to be tested in Taiwan! If the US turns out to be hollow in its nuclear guarantees to its allies, expect that the likes of Australia will rethink its commitments to nuclear non-proliferation, whether the US wants it or not!
