The Washington Post: “Abbas proves he prefers posturing to a peace process”

In May of 2009, The Washington Post’s Jackson Diehl wrote a scathing assessment of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and his disingenuous approach to the peace process called Abbas’s Waiting Game:

Abbas and his team fully expect that Netanyahu will never agree to the full settlement freeze — if he did, his center-right coalition would almost certainly collapse. So they plan to sit back and watch while U.S. pressure slowly squeezes the Israeli prime minister from office. “It will take a couple of years,” one official breezily predicted. Abbas rejects the notion that he should make any comparable concession — such as recognizing Israel as a Jewish state, which would imply renunciation of any large-scale resettlement of refugees.

Instead, he says, he will remain passive. “I will wait for Hamas to accept international commitments. I will wait for Israel to freeze settlements,” he said. “Until then, in the West Bank we have a good reality . . . the people are living a normal life.” In the Obama administration, so far, it’s easy being Palestinian.

On Friday (February 18th), the Washington Post published an unsigned editorial with another scathing assessment of Mahmoud Abbas called “Abbas proves he prefers posturing to a peace process”:

PALESTINIAN PRESIDENT Mahmoud Abbas claims to be interested in negotiating a two-state peace settlement with Israel. For two years he has enjoyed the support of a U.S. president more sympathetic to the Palestinian cause than most, if not all, of his predecessors. Yet Mr. Abbas has mostly refused to participate in the direct peace talks that Barack Obama made one of his top foreign policy priorities – and now he has shown himself to be bent on embarrassing and antagonizing the U.S. administration.

Mahmoud Abbas has treated Barack Obama worse than the “Palestinians” have treated any U.S. President except for Bill Clinton who was also embarrassed by the outcome of the peace talks he tried to push through in late 2000.

Barack Obama didn’t learn anything from Bill Clinton’s experience and neither did Bill Clinton, judging by his insistence this past year that a peace deal like the failed offer in 2000 could still be the answer to the Arab-Israeli conflict.

The “Palestinians” are once again doing what would clearly be counter-productive for people who actually want a state.

Mr. Abbas’s stubbornness might seem spectacularly self-defeating – but only if one assumes that he is genuinely interested in a peace deal. In fact, the U.N. gambit allows him to posture as a champion of the Palestinian cause without having to consider any of the hard choices that would be needed to found a Palestinian state. It enables him to deflect criticism from the rival Hamas movement about his friendly relations with the United States. It might even allow him to head off a popular Palestinian rebellion against his own autocratic behavior – Mr. Abbas has failed to schedule overdue elections, including for his own post as president.

Obama is banging his head against the same wall as Bill Clinton:

The Obama administration has all along insisted that Mr. Abbas is willing and able to make peace with Israel – despite considerable evidence to the contrary. If the U.N. resolution veto has one good effect, perhaps it will be to prompt a reevaluation of a leader who has repeatedly proved both weak and intransigent.

It would nice to think that Obama’s Middle East policy advisers are reading op-ed pieces like this and doing some more realistic reassessments of the “peace process” while watching the Arab nations collapsing one by one into what is likely to become a 21st Century Muslim Brotherhood Hell.

While I certainly agree that Obama has made the world a more dangerous place on purpose, I don’t think he was expecting to be embarrassed by the “Palestinians” and I think his head may be spinning over it a bit.

It’s good to see The Washington Post slap them both around in an unsigned editorial.

The Marty Report: Organ Harvesting in the Balkans

by coldwarrior ( 114 Comments › )
Filed under Balkans, Breaking News, Crime, Europe, George W. Bush, Islam, Judaism, Orthodox Christianity at January 25th, 2011 - 2:00 pm

It really depresses and infuriates me that I have to write this post (special tanks for the help 1389). I am sickened by the thought of all of this. Tonight at about 1030pm eastern or so there is going to be a press conference on webcast from the Council of Europe in Brussels dealing with the harvesting of organs from abducted Serbians in Kosovo, the debate is occurring as we speak. This was first reported many years ago by the Serbian press, no one paid any attention to it. hen in 2008  Chief Hague Prosecutor Carla Del Ponte publicly made statements about the organ harvesting and even wrote a book about it, ‘Hunt: Me and War Criminals’ (which was banned from publishing for some time). Where she states that in the summer of 1999 300 young Serbs were abducted in Kosovo. They were transported to Albania for execution and then their organs were sold on the global black market. Hashim Thaci, the former leader of the Kosovo Liberation Army, the current Prime Minister of Kosovo, who earned the nickname of “The Snake” for his cruelty, is said to have taken personal control of the operation and receive millions of dollars from the sale of the organs of the murdered Serbs.

Tonight the EU investigator, Dick Marty,  will have his press conference where he will provide details to back up this ascertation “Finally, we arrived at the conclusion that these events were known to many intelligence services from many countries. This was known to the police, to a large number of people, who would privately say, ‘yes, I am aware of that’, but who, for the sake of political opportunism, would decide to remain silent. Another revelation is that they include the territory of Albania. In that absolutely chaotic period in 1999 and 2000, that is, after the end of (NATO) bombardment and establishment of UNMIK, the KLA exercised power in the entire territory (of Kosovo), and that is when the crimes were committed. People were kidnapped, deported to Albania. You are aware that EULEX has opened an investigation related to secret prisons, Kukesh in northern Albania is mentioned there. What has shocked me is that most facts in this report were known to a large number of organizations, and yet that there was silence about it until this day. I believe that a future of a country cannot be built without truth, without insisting on truth and memory. There will never be peace between various communities if the principle of ‘not wanting to know’ continues,””  He has also been very critical of the Serb war crimes and details all of the atrocities in the Balkans, he favors no one. His report, which was just admitted to the EU is linked here.

Summary: According to the information gathered, numerous concrete and convergent indications confirm that some Serbians and some Albanian Kosovars were held prisoner in secret places of detention under KLA control in northern Albania and were subjected to inhuman and degrading treatment, before ultimately disappearing. Numerous indications seem to confirm that, during the period immediately after the end of the armed conflict, before international forces had been able to take control of the region and re-establish law and order, organs were removed from some prisoners at a clinic on Albanian territory, near Fushë-Krujë, to be taken abroad for transplantation. Although some concrete evidence of such trafficking already existed at the beginning of the decade, the international authorities in charge of the region did not consider it necessary to conduct a detailed examination of these circumstances, or did so incompletely and superficially.

The international organisations in place in Kosovo favoured a pragmatic political approach, taking the view that they needed to promote short-term stability at any price, thereby sacrificing some important principles of justice. Insufficient investigation has been carried out into the connection of KLA members with war crimes committed against Serbians and Albanian Kosovars. The team of international prosecutors and investigators within EULEX which is responsible for investigating allegations of inhuman treatment, including those relating to possible organ trafficking, has made progress, particularly in respect of proving the existence of secret KLA places of detention in northern Albania where inhuman treatment and even murders are said to have been committed.

We must fight uncompromisingly against impunity for the perpetrators of serious human rights violations. The fact that these were committed in the context of a violent conflict could never justify a decision to refrain from prosecuting anyone who has committed such acts. There cannot and must not be one justice for the winners and another for the losers.

The member states of the European Union and the other contributing states should set EULEX a clear objective and give it the necessary political support to combat organised crime uncompromisingly, to ensure that justice is done, without any considerations of political expediency; Albania and the Kosovo administration should co-operate unreservedly with ongoing and future investigations.

Well, it gets worse. There are plenty of links below to the following facts: These organs went to America, Europe, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and I am sure elsewhere.  Closer to home, remember the Orthodox Rabbis and political leaders that were convicted of Organ trafficking in the US some years ago? They received some of these organs, and illegal organs from elsewhere, so much for being holy men *spit*, i hope you all rot in prison. One of the lead doctors in Albania is a Brazilian, nice work Catholic man, how can you call yourself a doctor? Also people from all over the world traveled to Eastern Europe with their surgeons to get these organs. I expect this kind of behavior from muslims, but not from Judeo-Christian Westerners.

The irritating facet of all of this is the silence…no one wants to discuss it in the press, nor do they want to admit that this inhumanity can be laid at the feet of the West. The cowards in Europe did nothing in the Balkans, then the US went in  under Clinton and Bush and propped up the criminal enterprise that is Kosovo. Our entire endeavor there is disgraceful at the least, immoral all around, and sinful at the worst. This report shows that both Clinton and Bush and the boots on the ground knew about this and did nothing. In the end, all will have to answer to God for this becasue we are probably going to be too cowardly to take action on this.

We, in the West, are guilty of supporting islamic war criminals at the cost of Christian lives for political expediency. We are guilty of remaining quiet. Not one group is innocent here, Christians, Jews, muslims, Atheists, everyone is guilty. I wonder if the world would have treated this differently if it weren’t Orthodox Serbs getting their kidneys ripped out so that the KLA and our boy Prime Minister Hashim Thaci could make some cash? This disgusts me. Way to go Clinton, Holbrooke,  and Bush, I am not a proud American today.

Here is a big ball of links for background and to document what I have written, peruse through them.

Obama (sadly) still looking good for 2012

by Mojambo ( 234 Comments › )

Anyone who thought that Obama was a shoo in for defeat in 2012 is whistling past the grave yard. The man is still the darling of the media, academia, Hollywood (the popular culture) and of the clueless college students. Also the Republican Party still appears not to have learned anything from the 2008 and 2010 elections. We waste our time getting sidetracked on  social issues (which turns off urbanites, suburbanites and Independents) all the while ignoring the fact that people are afraid for their economic futures – something which makes Obama extremely vulnerable. Too many people have invested too much of themselves in Barack Obama to admit that they were dead wrong in 2008. I am not saying he cannot be beaten, but he should never have risen to the position that he currently occupies.  He is a far better campaigner then he will ever be an administrator.

by Michael Barone

On the day after Boxing Day, it’s worth noting that Barack Obama is down but not out.

You could tell as much from the contrast between his petulant post-election press conference and his peppy pre-Christmas press conference. In the former, he was crabby about accepting Republicans’ demands that income tax rates on all taxpayers not be raised. In the latter, he was celebrating the lame-duck Congress’s acceptance of his stands on the New START treaty, repeal of don’t ask, don’t tell, and even the previously reviled tax deal.

Obama has obviously figured out that Americans prefer to see their president describe the glass as half full rather than half empty. That’s a good lesson for him, and for Republicans as well, especially those who believe that the Obama Democrats’ shellacking in the midterms means that Obama himself will definitely lose in 2012.

History should provide some caution for these folks. Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush saw their parties fare pretty well in their midterm elections. But they were defeated for re-election anyway.

In contrast, pundits thought that Ronald Reagan’s Republicans took a shellacking in 1982 (actually, about half their losses resulted from redistricting), and Bill Clinton’s Democrats definitely did in 1994. But both the 40th and 42nd presidents were resoundingly re-elected, carrying 49 and 31 states.

Several factors will likely work less strongly against Obama in 2012 than against the Obama Democrats in 2010. Turnout will be different, for one thing. We may see again the record turnout of blacks we saw in 2008. Young people who pretty much shunned the polls in the midterms may turn out and vote–though the 34-point margin they gave to Obama was halved to 17 points for congressional Democrats in 2010.

The balance of enthusiasm favored Republicans and conservatives in 2010, as it had favored Democrats in 2006 and 2008. It could conceivably shift and favor the Democrats once again.

Another factor is that polls show that most Americans have favorable personal feelings toward the president. Bill Clinton and George W. Bush both happened to have personal characteristics that people on the other side of the cultural divide absolutely loathed. Obama doesn’t.

His reliance on his teleprompter, his secret smoking, his irritability when not adored — these are pretty minor failings. People like his family and his obvious devotion to them. They don’t mind that he likes to get away and play golf or shoot hoops from time to time.

Then there is the powerful desire Americans have to see their presidents succeed. That worked for Bill Clinton in 1996 and George W. Bush in 2004. Polls and focus groups showed that voters in the middle of the political spectrum were ready to overlook their weaknesses and appreciated their strengths in those years. That could be the case with Obama in 2012.

[….]

American voters are not seething with envy over income inequality and are not convinced that we’ll all do better if the government takes away more of Bill Gates’ money. Obama, like the academics in whose neighborhoods he has always chosen to live, think they should be seething and that if the message is just delivered the right way they can be convinced.

That’s a big difference on some fundamental issues. Enough to make the difference in 2012? Not clear.

US-Backed Kosovo Administration Implicated in Organ-Trafficking Racket…

A Mystery Is Solved

Back in 1999, I had no information about the organ trafficking. But I had heard that a considerable number of Serbs had gone missing during the Kosovo War and its aftermath. I contacted prominent and influential people both in the US and all over the world – politicians, media figures, other activists, various celebrities, even heads of state – demanding an investigation to uncover the whereabouts of the missing Serbs.

Even though some other activists helped by circulating my request, nobody replied. Absolutely nobody.

More recently, I was dismayed to learn that at least some of the Serbs who had gone missing at that time had been butchered and sold for their organs.

Now the reckoning begins.

…But Will It Matter?

By James George Jatras
Wednesday, 15 December 2010

One can’t help but wonder how many times we have to be hit over the head before it begins to sink in that America’s intervention in Kosovo was based on a pack of lies from the start. The ‘accepted’ narrative of Kosovo as the great success story parades under the headline: U.S. and NATO Allies Nobly Stepped in to Stop Genocide by Evil Serbs. The reality was U.S. Dragged NATO Allies Kicking and Screaming Into Support for Muslim Mafia Committing Genocide Against Christian Serbs.

Comes now the Council of Europe’s human rights investigator Dick Marty with damning accusations that Hashim Thaçi, a/k/a Gjarpër (Snake), currently masquerading as “prime minister” of the illegal separatist administration in Pristina, heads a “mafia-like” operation that included murdering captives, mainly Serbs, to sell their organs on the black market. Is even that ghoulish revelation enough to force a reconsideration of the preening self-justification of a humanitarian intervention most Americans have long since forgotten? We can hope. But did the plotted attack on Fort Dix changes any minds? No.

Now we have organ trafficking. Let’s remember the organ-trafficking story first broke over two years ago and seemed to be withering away in the face of brazen stonewalling by “authorities” in Pristina and Tirana (with full backing from Washington, of course.)

Release of Mr. Marty’s report, just as Thaçi is claiming victory in Kosovo’s recent elections, suggests that somebody in Europe wants to jump off this bandwagon to disaster. But for Americans, the question is: How horrible do the facts need to be before we start looking behind the curtain to see what our government is so desperate to conceal

In the unfortunate partisan myopia that plagues American politics, some of my fellow conservatives might be tempted to blame it on Bill Clinton and leave it at that. Of course, it was largely a “Clinton problem” back during the 1999 NATO war against Serbia. To their credit, most Congressional Republicans voted against the war, which our Razorback Rommel illegally launched even though the House of Representatives had voted down the authorization to use military force. But while Republicans mainly voted No, the neoconservative establishment was whipping up support for the Clinton White House. Unfortunately, with neocon domination of the George W. Bush administration’s foreign policy, and their desperation to win Islamic friends after 9/11, the Bush policy on Kosovo was even more Clinton than Clinton, leading to the decision to try to force the issue of Kosovo’s independence in violation of every principle of international law and national sovereignty.

So, what will Washington do now about “our” guy Thaçi? Do a Google Image search for his name with almost any top U.S. figure of either party you can think of and you’ll see him in a warm handshake, often a chummy embrace with a virtual Who’s Who of the American establishment: George W. Bush, Condi Rice, Bill Gates, Clinton (both of them), Joseph Biden, Madeleine Albright, Wesley Clark, etc. (See Snake and Friends at the end of this message.) One would like to think some one of these worthies would now have the decency to say (even if only in virtuous hypocrisy), “What, I didn’t know! I’d never have supported these guys if I had!” But the problem is, even aside from these organ-trafficking peccadilloes, the U.S. establishment did know – from Day One – that Thaçi and Co. (the “Kosovo Liberation Army,” KLA) were a bunch of thugs. So did the intelligence services of our allies. (And make no mistake – it’s not just Thaçi. If Thaçi needs to be dumped, we can guess that “Plan B” will be to install in his place another of his equally vicious KLA colleagues.) They – our government – knew the KLA were criminals running the drug, slave, and weapons rackets throughout Europe. They knew the KLA was supported by Osama bin Laden (with whom Thaçi met personally in Tirana in 1998 to plan the jihad in Kosovo, according to the former head of Albanian intelligence), the Iranians, the Saudis, the Turks, and other supporters of an Islamic re-re-conquest of the Balkans. And we supported them anyway, shredding every rule of law and decency in the process. Now what? In all probability, circle the wagons, hope it will blow over, and keep twisting arms around the world in support of the illegal separatist terrorist entity “KosovA”.

As for Serbia, if there were a respectable government in Belgrade, instead of a group of quislings, they wouldn’t be preparing to meet with representatives of Thaçi’s government in direct negotiations. Instead, conspiring with their U.S. and European supporters and collaborators in the Serbian Orthodox Church, Belgrade’s recent “contribution” to the Kosovo fiasco is their persecution of Vladika Artemije, Bishop of Ras and Prizren and Kosovo and Metohija, who over two years ago was calling for then-President Bush to refuse to meet with Thaçi and demanding an accounting for the organ-selling outrage!

Let us hope that Mr. Marty’s fine work doesn’t get thrown down the Memory Hole with any and all other facts inconvenient to Washington’s policy. But it’s not enough just to track down the individual perpetrators, or even to pack Thaçi off to jail (though both would be a good start). It’s time for the lies that have undergirded our entire Balkan policy to be exposed, for the United States to stop its obsessive support for Islamic jihad against the indigenous Christian population, and specifically to back off from our absurd and destructive global lobbying on behalf of the KLA regime.

Some might argue that “we’ve come too far” to reverse course now, that American commitment to “KosovA” is irreversible. But it s never too late to stop doing the wrong thing and start doing the right thing. If Mr. Marty s organ-trafficking revelations can be a catalyst for a truthful reassessment of American policy and of the events of recent years, the victims will not have died in vain.
