Female members of CBC call for action against Boko Haram

BokoHaram

I normally oppose the Congressional Black Caucus, but when they are right I have no qualms supporting them. Female members of the CBC are condemning the kidnapping of 200 Nigerian girls by the al-Qaeda linked Boko Haram terror militia. They also call for the US to give military assistance to Nigeria in their fight with Boko Haram.

A group of American congresswomen have called on the US to do more to help Nigeria capture the “terrorist thugs” behind last month’s kidnapping of more than 200 schoolgirls.

During a visit to the Nigerian embassy in Washington, the five politicians recommended the US fund Nigerian military efforts to track down Abubakar Shekau, leader of the Islamist group Boko Haram.

But the lawmakers said they were not advocating American boots on the ground.

They spoke as Pentagon officials confirmed they would send fewer than 10 military personnel to Nigeria as part of US efforts to help rescue the girls.

I fully support the CBC’s US military giving any aid to Nigeria against this Islamic organization. To assist Nigeria resist Islamic aggression is noble cause and one that is in America’s interest. Boko Haram is an evil organization that should be crushed. If US assistance can help achieve this goal, then let it be.

Cuban Court Upholds Two Year Sentence For Protesting

To many on the left, Communist Cuba and its’ leader-for-life, Fidel Castro, are roll models.

Back in April of this year three U.S. Congresspeople met with Fidel and came back singing his praises.  During the campaign, Obama stated that he would be willing to meet with Castro, and during his Presidency has eased travel restrictions against Cuba. We also cannot forget the official Obama campaign office that proudly displayed the Cuban flag with “Che” Guevara on it.

The adulation however isn’t only among Democrat politicians.  It is very well reported that very famous liberals (including Michael Moore, and  Oliver Stone) have gone on record praising and defending Fidel Cuba.

In their drive to bash the United States, and prop up a dictator the don’t seem to mind that despite a public personal vow of poverty, Fidel Castro is apparently worth $900 million while his citizens starve, or that he jails political dissenters as a policy.

HAVANA (AP) – A Cuban appeals court upheld a two-year prison sentence for “public dangerousness” against a man who became an Internet celebrity after his drunken rant about hunger on the island was captured by a film crew.

The court rejected Juan Carlos Gonzalez Marcos’ plea for leniency in central Havana on Thursday, according to Richard Rosollo, who observed the hearing on behalf of the Havana-based Cuban Commission on Human Rights and National Reconciliation, a leading rights group.

Gonzalez Marcos, known by the nickname Panfilo, appeared obviously inebriated when he burst into an interview for a documentary on Cuban music, waving his arms and screaming, “What we need here is a little bit of chow!”

He continued for more than 90 seconds, imploring the camera about how Cubans are going hungry in a country where the communist system is supposed to provide for all citizens’ basic needs.

Video of the tirade ended up on YouTube and was viewed more than 450,000 times after being posted in April. It became a rallying cry for exile groups in South Florida, where some hailed Gonzalez Marcos as one of the few Cubans who dare speak frankly about the difficulties of daily life on the island.

In a second video posted on YouTube, Gonzalez Marcos expressed regret that his outburst was used for political ends—but that wasn’t enough to sway the appeals court. Rosollo said Gonzalez Marcos was returned to a prison outside Havana after the hearing.

Congressional Black Caucas Praise Castro After Meeting With Him

It is news to me that Congressmen can legally meet with Fidel Castro, in Cuba none-the-less, but not surprising that they would.  The amount of praise they heap on Castro, and the terms they use to describe him however are alarming.  It reminds me of the Red Cross after they met with Jews in Teresenstadt during WW2 and then filed reports about how well they were being treated by the Nazis.  In his book, “The Case For Democracy”, Natan Sharansky describes this same phenomenon regarding the Western left, and their descriptions of Communism after meeting with State controlled handlers in The Soviet Union.

http://www.topnews.in/files/fidel-castro.jpgKey members of the Congressional Black Caucus are calling for an end to U.S. prohibition on travel to Cuba, just hours after a meeting with former Cuban president Fidel Castro in Havana.

[CBC Chairwoman Barbara Lee (D-Ca.)] and others heaped praise on Castro, calling him warm and receptive during their discussion. But the lawmakers disputed Castro’s later statement that members of the congressional delegation said American society is still racist.

“It was quite a moment to behold,” Lee said, recalling her moments with Castro.

“It was almost like listening to an old friend,” said Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Il.), adding that he found Castro’s home to be modest and Castro’s wife to be particularly hospitable.

“In my household I told Castro he is known as the ultimate survivor,” Rush said.

Rep. Laura Richardson (D-Ca.) said Castro was receptive to President Obama’s message of turning the page in American foreign policy.

“He listened. He said the exact same thing” about turning the page “as President Obama said,” said Richardson.

In a statement following the meeting today, Castro said that the delegation had expressed to him that a segment of American society “continues to be racist,” and is at least partly to blame for the travel restrictions.

But the delegation this evening said those remarks were not expressed in the meeting.

“That did not happen,” Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.), told reporters.

I wonder if they asked Mr. Castro about this quote of his “The universities are available only to those who share my revolutionary beliefs.”Fidel Castro
