Giant Isopod Stomach Contents

The other day, I was examined the contents of the digestive tract of Giant isopod who died.

in individuals captured after the date has not passed, it does not eat food in the aquarium.

Stomach contents, you believed that you were eating in the food or the seabed in the trap at the time of capture.

Previously, there was a thing that was introduce another individual of the contents, inside also this individual digestive tract had been filled with undigested material.

Color is black, different impression until now.

Weight of stomach contents is 128.5g, because body weight was about 1000g, you pretty now that it was at once ate a large amount of food for the body weight.

In texture you whether referred to as a “massive”, “soggy” This time, such as the internal organs of something if from the color feel of the … squid?

Smell is stronger, but because it was unexpectedly pond likely feel it when I smell, I tried to make sure the taste is a little lick.

Not surprisingly unpleasant, here also certainly (such as, for example, Ayu visceral salted “Uruka”) taste like salted fish visceral.

Even I feel taste.

When you leave for a while and left at room temperature (22 ℃), so went more and more soluble in muddy, I felt that you are self-digestion. Do Will contains a large amount of enzyme.

After that, I was a survey of solid was strained with a net, but this time in as long as it was confirmed by eye scales of fish are not included at all, there was still many just squid beak.

Most but is small enough width 7mm, even things like pieces of a large squid beak is in.

This individual seems to have apparently eat squid.

Kim Jong-un Directs Farmers To Stop Growing Tall Corn

Kim Jong Un Corn Mandate

Even well-off families Can Only Add a Handful of Rice to Their Corn Meal Porridge
Corn (maize) long ago replaced rice as North Korea’s staple food. North Koreans call corn meal “corn rice”. The well-to-do eat steamed rice; for others, corn is their staple food. Depending on a family’s economic status, the rice-to-corn ratio varies. Well-off families don’t use more than 50% corn; as the household budget becomes more strained, corn’s share grows.

Mrs. Kang Un-hui (alias) of Pyongsung city in South Pyongan Province has not so far had to worry about food thanks to her husband, who is a police officer. However, now only her husband gets a food ration. It has been several months since the food ration ended for the three other family members. Even so, they are not starving, but the quality of their meals has fallen sharply. Long ago, they only ate steamed rice. Last year, their meals were half corn and half rice. This year they struggle to be able to mix a handful of rice into the corn meal.

Says Mrs. Kang: “These days, if you’re not pretty rich, the quality of your meals worsens. Now, a family that can afford corn meal is doing well. It’s gotten to the point that it’s hard to have corn meal with even one handful of rice. If our family is like this, other families will be even worse-off. Apart from North Koreans of Chinese origins, everybody is like this. Even so, that does not mean we should complain. My husband has steady work, and I’m just grateful that he can keep his position. I hope that the country’s food situation will improve quickly and we can receive our food rations in the usual way.”

Okay, the image (Kimmy Crack Corn?) is an obvious photoshop intended for political snark, and I’m not going to post the source in order to protect their anonymity. The story dated 4 July 2012, quoted verbatim, is unaltered.

But there is something odd in that report, and it has to do with rice and corn.
Lookee here:

Grains Comparison[Source]

So why is corn (maize) disparaged as a staple in North Korea when it has three times as many calories and more nutrients? Is it because it’s a crop cultivated in the Americas? I dunno, Babs, but I do know this.
The U.S. don’t raise no rice-fed cattle.

North Korea’s sparse agricultural resources limit agricultural production. Climate, terrain, and soil conditions are not particularly favorable for farming, with a relatively short cropping season. Only about 17% of the total landmass, or approximately 20,000 km2, is arable, of which 14,000 km2 is well suited for cereal cultivation; the major portion of the country is rugged mountain terrain.[1] [Wiki]

That means North Korea has approximately 12% of its landmass good for growing grains, and it grows mostly rice. The government takes most of the rice away from the private subsistence farms.

So much for the Workers’ Paradise. Eat dirt, peons.

“If you don’t eat yer snails, you can’t have any urchins! How can you have any urchins if you don’t eat yer snails?!”

I’m not too squeamish, but some foods require blinders for us westerners. I’ve heard that the rule of thumb when dining in Asia is never ask what it is, just eat it. (Also remember that “Asian food” is just called “food” by the locals.)

Of course it works both ways.  There are a lot of people who are repulsed by fermented and clotted mammalian lactations, yet they’ll drool at a plate of stir-fried rat feet dipped in squid ink with wood grubs.

So as we all sit here sifting our memories for the most disgusting stuff we’ve ever introduced to our gastrointestinal tracts, let’s pass around a big ‘ol honkin’ platter of deep fried WTF on The Overnight Open Thread.

Hugo Chavez Urges Venezuelans to eat less

What’s the obsession Progressives have with food? NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg wants to ban salt and is always lecturing New Yorkers about eating Healthy. His fellow Progressive Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is also urging his people to eat less. The irony is that Mr. Chavez himself is not exactly the epitome of being lean. So his lecturing on food intake is actually quite laughable.

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — President Hugo Chavez urged Venezuelans on Sunday to cut their calories to avoid obesity – the latest lifestyle recommendation by the self-proclaimed socialist crusader.

Chavez has lobbied in recent weeks against what he calls the evils of capitalism, including alcoholism, breast implants and violent television programs.

“Be careful with weight gain!” warned Chavez on Sunday, speaking during his weekly television and radio program. “We are eating better, that’s been proven. We’re leaving malnutrition behind. It no longer exists in the country, but be careful with obesity.”

Typical Progressive hypocrisy. Do as I say and not as I do. Bloomberg and Chavez should live up to what they are lecturing others to do. Maybe with Bloomberg’s money , they can start a Gym chain. Hugo Chavez can sing for the commercials and have Charles Johnson as his guitarist. Maybe Chuck will join the Gym and get in shape!
