Why conservatives should care about the campaign finance reform issue

So hot it sizzles. (Well, ok, maybe not….)

I’ve discussed before the fact that the Left is basically a knowledge-control cult. The Left hates the free flow of information. This is why they want to kill talk radio. It’s why they want to hand control of the internet to Obama and some Czar that he gets to appoint without the advice and consent of Congress. This is why they cooked up the idiotic idea of having an email address that the leftist ground troops could use to “snitch” on people who aren’t on board with the Democrats’ efforts to destroy our health care system. Campaign finance reform is just another link in that chain. If the government gets to control the flow of money to political parties, then the government gets to control the flow and direction of political discourse. Wrong ideas? No money.

Ironically, this would serve to actually make the government less responsive to the will of the people, not more so. Think about what it would be like it there was no credible political opposition to the government because it has been defunded, and any independent attempts to get the word out via any type of media are criminalized. Consider where we’d be if the Left got its way, and there was no outlet for the millions of Americans who, for instance, oppose the attempt to impose health care “reform” onto us. You’d have the government “doing something,” but the will of the people — as has been repeatedly expressed through everything from polls to town halls — would be completely shut out. That’s what the Left would like to see happen. That’s why the Democrats and their activist groups are so incensed that conservative groups are allowed to publicly debunk all the lies that the leftists are telling us about their health care plans. With the sort of campaign finance scheme they’d like to see put into place, they’d have free run of the marketplace of ideas by default. However, it would no longer be a marketplace, but an echo chamber. In short, the leftists who want public control of election financing are really angling to see a one-party system established — by their party — if it were possible. And consider how responsive to the will of the people one-party systems usually are, which is to say, not at all.

Some thoughts on restrictions on free speech that might help to explain the psychology of cult leaders like etihwelppA selrahC?

Leftists Love Their Autocrats

When it comes to Friedmans, I’ll take Milton every time.  Especially when the other one – the one who writes for the New York Slimes –  extols the virtues of autocracy,

Watching both the health care and climate/energy debates in Congress, it is hard not to draw the following conclusion: There is only one thing worse than one-party autocracy, and that is one-party democracy, which is what we have in America today.

One-party autocracy certainly has its drawbacks. But when it is led by a reasonably enlightened group of people, as China is today, it can also have great advantages. That one party can just impose the politically difficult but critically important policies needed to move a society forward in the 21st century. It is not an accident that China is committed to overtaking us in electric cars, solar power, energy efficiency, batteries, nuclear power and wind power. China’s leaders understand that in a world of exploding populations and rising emerging-market middle classes, demand for clean power and energy efficiency is going to soar. Beijing wants to make sure that it owns that industry and is ordering the policies to do that, including boosting gasoline prices, from the top down.

I want to park here for a moment and ask a fair enough question: When did Friedman resume his crack-smoking habit?  Seriously.  He makes it sound as if China is this up-and-coming world leader in environmentally-friendly “green” technologies.  Has he seen China?  The China where the rivers are so polluted you grow a third eye just by eating a fish pulled from one of them?  The China where you get your daily nutritional allowance of cadmium merely by breathing?  The China that makes the old Soviet Union look like an environmentalist paradise?  THAT China?

And I find it appalling – A.P.P.A.L.L.I.N.G. – that he thinks that a political oligarchy that uses slave labour, executes petty criminals so that their organs can be harvested, bullies its neighbours (Taiwan, India) with overt threats of military aggression, and denies its citizens even basic civil liberties is “a reasonably enlightened group of people.”   What a sick puppy.

But I digress.

Our one-party democracy is worse. The fact is, on both the energy/climate legislation and health care legislation, only the Democrats are really playing. With a few notable exceptions, the Republican Party is standing, arms folded and saying “no.” Many of them just want President Obama to fail. Such a waste. Mr. Obama is not a socialist; he’s a centrist. But if he’s forced to depend entirely on his own party to pass legislation, he will be whipsawed by its different factions.

Look at the climate/energy bill that came out of the House. Its sponsors had to work twice as hard to produce this breakthrough cap-and-trade legislation. Why? Because with basically no G.O.P. representatives willing to vote for any price on carbon that would stimulate investments in clean energy and energy efficiency, the sponsors had to rely entirely on Democrats — and that meant paying off coal-state and agriculture Democrats with pork. Thank goodness, it is still a bill worth passing. But it could have been much better — and can be in the Senate. Just give me 8 to 10 Republicans ready to impose some price on carbon, and they can be leveraged against Democrats who want to water down the bill.

Ayep, here we go.  Here’s why Tommy (un)Friedman has suddenly become so enamoured with autocracy – it would let people like him more easily impose their idiotic economic, social, and environmental agendas onto us, without those annoying relics of democracy like “political opposition” and “debate.”  Since the Republicans just aren’t playing ball, maybe its time to scrap that whole democracy thing, and find ourselves a charismatic, lovable autocrat around whom we can all rally.

And I’m sure he already has one in mind.

Shoot, it’s not like the Democrats haven’t already been headed that way.   When you have Democrat Congressmen who basically tell their constituents point blank that it doesn’t matter what the people want, they’re gonna get the Democrat agenda shovelled down their throats regardless – that’s a sign that you have a problem.  I’d like to say that it’s nothing a good election couldn’t solve, but hey, since we’re already on the whole autocracy kick anywise, who needs elections?  I wish I could say that I’m just kidding, but with the direction the Democrats have been taking anywise, I can’t.

Once again, it’s stuff like this that shows why you simply cannot trust people on the Left – period.  They do not support American values.  They do not support consensual debate.  They do not support representative democracy.  They do not support the people voicing their will.  They do not support leaving the people alone to live their own lives.   They do not believe in freedom.  They are un-American, in the deepest and most fundamental ways possible.

Far left blog LGF continues to show its fascist colors

Rabid leftist and anti-religious bigot, Charles “Icarus” Johnson celebrates the egging of BNP leader Nick Griffin. I do not agree with many of the BNP’s positions and I am not defending them. However, they are the only ones in the UK speaking out on Islamization. They are filling a void left open by the establishment in the UK. They have a right to speak without being hit with Eggs.

Fascist MEP Pelted with Eggs

World | Tue, Jun 9, 2009 at 8:48:43 am PDT

The Holocaust-denying leader of the British National Party, Nick Griffin, now a member of European Parliament, was forced to abandon a press conference today when demonstrators showed up throwing eggs.

Dozens of protesters disrupted the event, which follows the British National Party winning its first two seats in the European Parliament. Chanting anti-Nazi slogans and holding placards they surrounded Mr Griffin as he was bundled into a car.

Mr Griffin was elected for the North West region – a result condemned by parties across the political spectrum. Mr Griffin and Andrew Brons, who was elected in the Yorkshire and Humber region, staged a press conference on College Green, opposite the Houses of Parliament.

The BNP leader began the event by holding up copies of national newspapers and talking about what he said were media lies about him and his party.

He denied he had past links with Oswald Mosley, as the former fascist leader “was very hostile to the National Front from which I am from”.

He had been speaking for about two minutes when about 50 to 100 protesters marched towards him chanting slogans and throwing eggs.

Charles would condemn it if a leftist or Islamic leader were to get hit with eggs. It’s bad enough that he believes in silencing different views on his blog. He now wants to silence others in real life. Clearly he is a totalitarian fascist.

He then goes on and attacks Frank Gaffney for asking if Obama is a secret muslim. Obama made some statements that are from an Islamic point of view. He used “peace be upon him” when referring to Moses and Jesus, something Christians and Jews don’t use. Gaffney makes some legitimate points. However, Charles attacks him and defends his  beloved leader Barack Hussein Obama.

Gaffney’s Sekrit Mozlem Prezdent Theory

Opinion | Tue, Jun 9, 2009 at 10:05:56 am PDT

Is Frank Gaffney actually going for the “sekrit Mozlem prezdent” gambit?

Unfortunately, the answer seems to be “yes,” with a Hitler comparison thrown in for good measure: America’s first Muslim president?

This is not to say, necessarily, that Mr. Obama actually is a Muslim any more than Mr. Clinton actually is black. After his five months in office, and most especially after his just-concluded visit to Saudi Arabia and Egypt, however, a stunning conclusion seems increasingly plausible: The man now happy to have his Islamic-rooted middle name featured prominently has engaged in the most consequential bait-and-switch since Adolf Hitler duped Neville Chamberlain over Czechoslovakia at Munich. …

With Mr. Obama’s unbelievably ballyhooed address in Cairo Thursday to what he calls “the Muslim world” (hereafter known as “the Speech”), there is mounting evidence that the president not only identifies with Muslims, but actually may still be one himself.

Good grief.

UPDATE at 6/9/09 10:21:01 am:

For a “sekrit Mozlem,” Obama sure does talk a lot about being a Christian: Barack Obama invokes Jesus more than George W. Bush.

Muslims also refer to Jesus, Mr. Icarus. Obama also lied about Islamic accomplishments and kept praising their cult. Charles attacks Gaffney because he seeks to silence any discussion about Obama’s Muslim ties.  Charles Johnson is clearly a hateful fascist. He can’t stand dissent or discussion of ideas. Thankfully, someone as deranged as Icarus is not in power.

Charles Johnson is quick to label people as Fascists. However, he displays fascistic tendencies and seeks to silence his opponents. He is a very hateful and miserable man who should look in the mirror when calling others totalitarians. Although it is just a blog, LGF is full of hate towards conservatives, libertarians and people of faith. This hatred and bigotry must be confronted and exposed. Bigoted fascists like Charles Johnson need the light shown on them. Like rats and roaches, Icarus can’t stand the spotlight. Not to insult rats and roaches as they have more honor than this little washed up person.

Soda Tax for Healthcare

This would be funny if it wasn’t sad. Now Sodas will have a special tax for the new health-care program because the government doesn’t approve of sugar based drinks.

Soda Tax Weighed to Pay for Health Care

Senate leaders are considering new federal taxes on soda and other sugary drinks to help pay for an overhaul of the nation’s health-care system.

The taxes would pay for only a fraction of the cost to expand health-insurance coverage to all Americans and would face strong opposition from the beverage industry. They also could spark a backlash from consumers who would have to pay several cents more for a soft drink.

On Tuesday, the Senate Finance Committee is set to hear proposals from about a dozen experts about how to pay for the comprehensive health-care overhaul that President Barack Obama wants to enact this year. Early estimates put the cost of the plan at around $1.2 trillion. The administration has so far only earmarked funds for about half of that amount.

Welcome to America where even Sodas have a special tax. Up next, a fast food tax!
